The event will feature UAA head coach Matt Thomas, senior Blake Tatchell, Arizona State head coach Greg Powers and host David Tuttle KENDALL PREVIEW: The official start to college hockey season in Alaska, the 25th anniversary edition of the Kendall Hockey Classic promises the perfect blend of traditions old and new... In addition to host and eight-time Kendall champion Alaska Anchorage, the 2015 Classic has established programs in defending champion Alaska Fairbanks, plus former Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival St. Cloud State. But this year s tournament will also feature a pair of exciting debuts, with Arizona State playing its inaugural NCAA Div. I games, and a newly remodeled Sullivan Arena premiering to Anchorage fans.... The host Seawolves looking to return to the winner s circle after a one-year hiatus have one of the most dangerous playmakers in the nation with the return of senior forward Blake Tatchell. A Third Team All-WCHA selection last year with totals, the Saskatchewan native enters the season with 79 points in 108 career games. Junior defenseman Chase Van Allen, who registered 11 helpers last season, should anchor the Seawolf defense, along with sophomore goalie Olivier Mantha, who claimed Team MVP honors with a.914 saves percentage and 2.90 goals-against average in Meanwhile, Alaska Fairbanks will look to keep the championship gold pan in the 49th State for the fifth straight year. An annual Kendall participant since 2008, the Nanooks are coming off a campaign that saw them place fourth ( ) in the rugged WCHA. UAF will be led by senior forward Tyler Morley, picked by coaches and media as the WCHA Preseason Player of the Year following a season. Junior winger Marcus Basara returns 50 career points to his team s lineup, while veteran junior Davis Jones is back between the pipes... The latest big-time NCAA program to add hockey, Arizona State will get its skates wet for the first time on the Sullivan Arena ice. I newcomer Arizona State for their first game of the season... the last time UAA lost a season opener was Oct. 13, 2000 against Michigan State (5-4)... UAA is in its last 13 season openers and in its last five Classic appearances... UAA is all-time in the Classic. THE SERIES UAA vs. SCSU OVERALL: SCSU leads, LAST MEETING: March 16, 2013 STREAK: SCSU 2 NOTES: This will be the first meeting for the teams since St. Cloud State was a member of the WCHA... the teams met in the WCHA First Round, March 15-16, 2013, as the Huskies ended the Seawolves season with a 6-1, 5-1 sweep at the National Hockey & Event Center in St. Cloud, Minn. EXHIBITION RECAP: The Seawolves were defeated Mt. Royal, 1-0 in an exhibition game in Soldotna, Alaska, Oct with the loss, the Seawolves drop to in the last 12 exhibition games SEASON RECAP: The Seawolves posted a overall record under second-year head coach Matt Thomas and a league record for 10th place in the standings... throughout the season, the Seawolves, which started the slate with a record, defeated three ranked teams in Wisconsin, Northern Michigan and Bowling Green... meanwhile, UAA s highlight of the season was a two-game road sweep of Alaska Fairbanks (2-1, 3-2 OT) in January. SEAWOLF BITES: The Seawolves season came to an end on March 6-7 as they were swept by Alaska Fairbanks (1-0, 3-2) in the annual Alaska Airlines Governor s Cup... with the wins, the Nanooks tied the season series, 2-2 to force the all decisive shootout... UAF ended up winning the shootout, 1-0, to claim the Cup for the sixth straight season... even though UAF leads the all-time Cup record, 11-8, UAA leads the all-time series record at the Seawolves last win of the season came against then-no. 11 Bowling Green (6-1) at the Sullivan Arena on Feb. 28, as UAA erupted for a season high six goals... the freshman class ended up leading the Seawolves with 59 points, 24 goals, 35 assists, four game-winning goals and six power-play strikes... overall, UAA had 10 skaters with 10+ points and four with 15+ points... after 34 games, the Seawolves finished overall, in conference play, at home and on the road... UAA was in WCHA home games and in league play on the road... at the conclusion of the 36th year of Seawolf hockey, UAA is overall... after 22 years in the WCHA, the Seawolves are all-time.
