Anaheim Ducks LA Times: LOADED: Frederik Andersen has 38 saves in Ducks' 4-0 win over Bruins Curtis Zupke In sickness and in health, the Ducks are wedded to their goalie duo. For now. Frederik Andersen got the start in goal Friday largely because John Gibson was recovering from illness, but it didn't hurt that Andersen was in his career against Boston. He stayed perfect against the Bruins with a 38-save shutout in a 4-0 win at Honda Center. The reunited duo of Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, with winger Jamie McGinn, combined for a goal and three assists to shake the Ducks out of a slide. Andersen's start was tinged with irony considering he conceded the starting job to Gibson in November by virtue of a nasty bug that kept him out a week. Gibson wasn't nearly as sick and his rest was more precaution. But Andersen's shutout further intrigues the goalie rotation, in which the pair switched after two games apiece for the last month. Andersen, who is in his last 17 decisions, deflected the topic. "I just play to my best capability and everything's going to take care of itself," Andersen said. "That's the most fun for me and everyone else in this room. We want to do our best." Andersen was a steady rudder in a 16-save second period that saw few whistles and lots of skating. He made a save on David Pastrnak on a two-on-one midway through the period. Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau, who said he informed Andersen in the morning that he was starting, thought the Bruins were probably frustrated. "Some of the 10-bell chances that they had, I'm sure they were shaking their head after he stopped them," Boudreau said. "Maybe they'll be mad enough for [Saturday against the Kings]." Boudreau won't broach how the goalie situation will work in the playoffs. It's safe to say both will play in an upcoming five-game, nine-day Canada trip. The Ducks will pack some renewed offense. Boudreau reunited Getzlaf and Perry for the first time since January, and their line scored on their second shift of the game. Perry fired a hard shot to the net and it went in off McGinn for his fourth goal in nine games as a Duck. Ryan Kesler tapped in a loose puck 76 seconds later for a 2-0 lead on four shots. Boudreau also changed Rickard Rakell's line and put him with David Perron and Brandon Pirri. "I think both groups were getting a little bit stale," Boudreau said. "We just decided that a little change, sometimes, is good. It sparked some excitement early in the game, and that got us through." Defenseman Kevin Bieksa returned from a lower-body injury. Beleskey returns The memories came back to Matt Beleskey when he returned to Anaheim and made the same walk he did so many times on game day, this time as a Bruin. "There's been some big games, there's been some big wins, some big losses," he said before the game. "It's all good memories." Beleskey briefly left the game when he took a stick to the face from Simon Despres but returned wearing a visor. His hard-nosed style has meshed with Boston, where he has a career-high 33 points. He posted a career-high 22 goals with the Ducks last season and scored eight goals in 16 playoff games. Beleskey said his seven-year stint in the Ducks organization was important to his development. "It was a lot of ups and downs, a lot of lessons learned," Beleskey said. "A couple of different coaches. It's all been a learning curve, and pretty much the majority of my career has been here, so it was a huge part being here in Anaheim."

Anaheim Ducks Orange County Register: LOADED: Frederik Andersen states his case as Ducks wrap homestand with 4-0 shutout of Bruins March 18, 2016 Updated 11:32 p.m. By ERIC STEPHENS ANAHEIM Frederik Andersen insists he is just playing when called upon, but the goalie s play is speaking loudly on its own and not making it any easier on his coach to choose a side among the Ducks talented tandem in the crease. Andersen stopped 38 shots for his second shutout of the season Friday night and Jamie McGinn and Ryan Kesler supported him with first-period goals as the Ducks finished their homestand with a 4-0 victory over the Boston Bruins before 16,707 at Honda Center. It was the fifth shutout of Andersen s career and one of his best performances of the season. Particularly strong was his work in the first two periods, with 27 of his saves over those 40 minutes and 16 of them coming in the second. With John Gibson missing Thursday s practice due to a brief illness, Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau decided to go with Andersen and hold Gibson back for Sunday s game at Winnipeg. Andersen responded by winning for the 15th time in his last 17 decisions. I just play, Andersen said. Play to my best capability and everything is going to take care of itself. Andersen and Gibson have split the crease fairly evenly this season and have been on a regular rotation for the last month. Boudreau reiterated that he doesn t need to rush into making a decision on leaning toward one goalie or the other. But there was no denying what Andersen did in his latest case for more playing time. Among his stops was a stellar denial of Patrice Bergeron on a redirect try in the second. He was outstanding tonight, Boudreau said. The chances they had and they couldn t score. You really knew when he stopped that two-on-one that he was into it. He was feeling it. Again, both goalies are pushing each other to be better every night. And when that happens, you re going to be successful. Hampus Lindholm also scored in the first minute of the third while Rickard Rakell added his 19th of the season as the Ducks ( ) pulled to within four points of the idle Kings in the race for first place in the Pacific Division. It was just the second win in six games for the Ducks since they won a franchise-record 11 straight. Ryan Getzlaf had two assists, his first in his last nine games. McGinn immediately benefited from Boudreau s decision to put Getzlaf and Corey Perry back together on a regular line. The winger, acquired at the Feb.29 trade deadline, was in front of the net when Perry s shot from the left circle hit off his leg and past Boston goalie Jonas Gustavsson. Kesler struck just 1:16 later when the center rushed in to tap home a loose puck in the crease after Gustavsson failed to cleanly secure Andrew Cogliano s shot from the left wing. It s definitely the way we want to start the game, said McGinn, who has four goals in nine games since coming from Buffalo. We wanted to come out and put pressure on them. It was a great job of jumping out in front with two quick ones. While Andersen was starring in goal, the Ducks gave him further support in the third as Lindholm one-timed a pass from Getzlaf while the teams had four players a side and Rakell ripped in a shot from the right circle off a feed from David Perron. The Ducks now leave for a five-game trip across Canada, starting with a Sunday matinee game in Winnipeg. Every time you have a long road trip like that coming up, you want to be successful at home and come off with a good feeling for the team, Lindholm said. Tonight, we played a very good game and Freddie played very well for us.

Anaheim Ducks Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry realignment works for Ducks March 18, 2016 Updated March 19, :02 a.m. By ERIC STEPHENS Defenseman Kevin Bieksa was back in the lineup after missing two games because of a lower-body injury. Bieksa also found himself with a new defense partner as he skated with Clayton Stoner, with Boudreau opting to keep Cam Fowler and Simon Despres together. Sami Vatanen (upper body) and Nate Thompson (lower body) remain sidelined, with Vatanen now missing three consecutive games after getting hurt last week in Colorado. Orange County Register: LOADED: ANAHEIM The revolving door sat on the left side of Ryan Getzlaf for years, but it has now been moved to his right and with that comes a new form of adjustment for the Ducks captain and chief playmaker. Instead of dealing with a number of rotating left wings while Corey Perry always rode shotgun, Getzlaf has had the different challenge of working with a number of right wings for the last two months while Perry has been on another line. It s an adjustment to some extent, Getzlaf said. Trying to learn where guys are going to be, what they re going to do. I try and just be patient. There s no point in yelling at guys every game for not being in the right spots or not doing the right things because they ve got to learn. It s a different game all the time depending on who you re playing with and what you re able to do out there. Overall, I think it s gone pretty well. The door swung again Friday night and a familiar face appeared. Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau shuffled his lines for their home game against Boston, putting Perry back beside Getzlaf and moving Jamie McGinn up to the top line with the two stars. And the desired effect was immediate. It took less than three minutes for the reconstituted line to deliver as Perry got a pass from Getzlaf and ripped a shot that hit off McGinn s leg and got past Bruins goalie Jonas Gustavsson. Before the reunion took place, Getzlaf had players such as Chris Stewart, Mike Santorelli and Ryan Garbutt on his right side in different games. Brandon Pirri jumped into that slot for his Ducks debut after recovering from his left ankle injury. It didn t affect the center s scoring too much. Getzlaf s overall numbers are down 11 goals, 44 assists but that s more a reflection of the bad first half he had. But he did get his first assist in eight games with the McGinn score, and added an assist on Hampos Lindholm s third-period goal. Boudreau said it doesn t matter to Getzlaf what players are lined up beside him. All he cares about is what s good for the team, Boudreau said. He s never once come to me and say, Hey, I ve got to have this guy, hey, I ve got to have that guy. Never. Whatever we think is going to be the most successful line combination, he wants to be part of it and that s it. As it s affected him, he s such a good visual player that he can play with anybody and he makes players around him better. While he didn t play with him Friday, Getzlaf liked what he saw out of Pirri in his first action as a teammate. I thought Brandon did a great job last game for the most part, Getzlaf said. There s going to be little mistakes and stuff that maybe we re not used to seeing. His first game back after five some-odd weeks off and playing on our line isn t the easiest task all the time. I thought he did a good job finding openings and getting his shots away. And the rest will come with it. FOND MEMORIES Matt Beleskey had already done the playing-against-former-teammates thing when the Ducks visited Boston right before the All-Star break, but Friday was a much different feeling as he was back at Honda Center for the first time since leaving for the Bruins as a free agent. Tons of good moments, Beleskey said. Just even walking into the rink, it brings you back to the playoffs last year doing that walk before games. There s been some big games. There s been some big wins, some big losses. It s all pretty good memories. Beleskey, who signed a five-year, $19million contract last summer, entered the game with 13 goals and 20 assists in his first season with the Bruins. INJURY UPDATES

Anaheim Ducks Anaheim Ducks host Boston Bruins on Friday, look to rediscover winning ways POSTED: 03/17/16, 11:27 PM PDT UPDATED: 44 MINS AGO # COMMENTS Elliott Teaford BRUINS AT DUCKS Faceoff: 7 p.m. TV/Radio: Prime / 830-AM Update: The Ducks ( ) have cooled considerably since their franchise-record 11-game winning streak. They re going into Friday s game against the Boston Bruins, the final contest before beginning a five-game trek across Canada that starts Sunday in Winnipeg. None of the five opponents was in playoff contention as of Thursday. John Gibson is expected to start in goal for the Ducks as coach Bruce Boudreau continues his two-on, two-off rotation with Frederik Andersen. Gibson is with a 2.07 goals-against average and a.919 save percentage. Gibson s goals-against average was second-lowest in the NHL behind Ben Bishop of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who had a 2.02 GAA going into Thursday s game against the Dallas Stars. The Ducks overall GAA is 2.26, second-best in the NHL behind the Kings mark of 2.20 going into Thursday s action. The Bruins are Elliott Teaford LA Daily News: LOADED:

Arizona Coyotes Arizona Coyotes' Shane Doan has knack for unlikely goals Sarah McLellan 6:11 p.m. MST March 18, 2016 Coyotes captain Shane Doan has scored more goals than any of his teammates, 25 to be exact, but there s a standing joke in the locker room that not all of those tallies should actually be described as legitimate goals. Take his flip just inside the blue line that bounced over Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford s glove Dec. 29, his first of three on the night for his second career hat trick. Or the chest-bump he executed Jan. 23 against the Kings when the puck caromed off the logo on his sweater before falling behind Jonathan Quick. Most recently, his centering attempt from the corner somehow sneaked behind the Sharks Martin Jones for the game winner in a 3-1 victory Thursday. I full-on joke and laugh about it as much as anybody, Doan said. But just hanging around the front of the net, the puck ends up coming there. If it s going to go across the red line, it s going to have to come to the front of the net. If you re around there enough, something good is going to happen. Doan s creative methods for production may garner a few chuckles, especially following a win, but they continue to make this season a memorable one for the 39-year-old. And there s still 12 games left on the schedule. I think that s what s made this year special for Shane, coach Dave Tippett said. I think he ll tell you that he d rather be winning and in a playoff march, and he d give a bunch of those goals away to have that. But that being said, the impact he s still having on our team has been very strong. Not only do his 25 goals pace the team, but Doan is only the second Coyotes player to score that many in a single season since His 25 tallies are the most since his career-high 31 in , and perhaps what s most impressive is the fact Doan is on the brink of becoming only the fourth player in NHL history to be at least 39 years old and lead his team in goal scoring potentially joining Gordie Howe and Jaromir Jagr. He shoots from everywhere, and that s something I ve tried to pick up on, winger Jordan Martinook said. I scored a goal against LA where I just threw it back at the net, and it found a way in. You look at the goals scored in this league, and there s a lot of goals like that. He s obviously found a formula, so good for him. Already this season Doan has surpassed Dale Hawerchuk for the franchise records for goals, power-play goals and points. He s also only five assists shy of tying Thomas Steen for that record. These accomplishments have validated his role with the Coyotes in the past and the present but Doan, who s in the final year of his contract, isn t ready to decide his future beyond this season. But what is clear is that even though he s closer to the end of his career than the beginning, he s still making memories. As you recognize where you re at in your career, you understand that, Holy smokes, this is all going to be over, Doan said. I m really enjoying it. I ve enjoyed the fact I get to play in the NHL, and it s something I don t take lightly anymore. Not that I ever did, but I think (I m) intentionally trying to enjoy it (and) focus on the fact this is fun. Between the pipes Goalie Louis Domingue will start Saturday against the Lightning with Mike Smith scheduled to complete the back-to-back set Sunday in San Jose against the Sharks. On the back-to-back, we knew both of them would play, Tippett said. Louis deserves the opportunity to play. He s played well for us. It s great to see Smitty come back and play well. It ll give him an extra day to get ready for San Jose. Injury update Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (bruised shoulder) is doubtful to play against the Lightning, Tippett said. Defenseman Nicklas Grossmann didn t practice Friday, taking a maintenance day. The Coyotes have been at the minimum on defense with Ekman-Larsson sidelined, but the team recalled Philip Samuelsson from the American Hockey League Friday on an emergency basis. TV/radio: Fox Sports Arizona/KMVP-FM (98.7). Lightning update: The Lightning own the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Division with 85 points. Tampa Bay has lost five of its past six games. Before this slide, the team had won nine straight. In its past five losses, the Lightning have been limited to one goal or less three times. Captain Steven Stamkos, however, has been productive lately with four goals and an assist in his past three games. Stamkos has a team-high 33 goals and is tied with winger Nikita Kucherov for the team lead in points (57). Arizona Republic LOADED:

Arizona Coyotes Coyotes aim for 4th straight win as Lightning visit Mar 19, 2016 at 1:37a ET Staff The Tampa Bay Lightning have had little success since their team-record winning streak ended two weeks ago. Things might not get any easier Saturday night considering how well the Arizona Coyotes have played of late. The Lightning will try to avoid a third straight loss, while the Coyotes will be looking to match a season high with their fourth consecutive win at Gila River Arena. The game can be seen on FOX Sports Arizona, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Coyotes ( ) have outscored opponents 11-2 during their three-game winning streak. Arizona won four in a row Jan After missing 40 games with a lower body injury, Mike Smith delivered a stellar 44-save performance in last Saturday's 4-0 victory at Edmonton, then stopped 27 shots in a 3-1 victory over San Jose on Thursday, but with another game scheduled for Sunday night at San Jose, Louis Domingue is expected to start in goal for the Coyotes. Shane Doan has a goal and three assists during the winning streak for the Coyotes, who have gone 4 for 9 on the power play in the last four. They've killed all 12 penalties over the same stretch. Arizona points leader Oliver Ekman-Larsson (upper body) is not expected to play for a fifth consecutive game. Tampa Bay ( ) has won 13 of 17 against Arizona, including a 2-1 win on Feb. 23 in Florida. The Lightning held a two-point lead in the Atlantic Division after winning its ninth in a row March 5 but has dropped to third by going since. They are four points behind first-place Florida and four up on Detroit. "We understand where we're at and how things are going," goaltender Ben Bishop said. "It's about manning up now." Bishop made 37 saves as the Lightning opened the trip with a 4-0 win over Columbus on Sunday, but fell 4-1 to lowly Toronto two days later. They led three times Thursday against Dallas but failed to hold a 3-2 advantage and were outshot 17-4 in the third of a 4-3 loss. "The guys in the room, they're going to hold themselves accountable," coach Jon Cooper told the NHL's official website. "We were doing everything right for two periods and then to come out and completely change the way they played, we got to do better. "We got to be better, it's the bottom line." Steven Stamkos, who recorded his second two-goal game of the trip, thinks the Lightning might be too eager for the postseason to begin. "We played like a fragile team that was scared to lose and not hungry to close out a game," he said. "We can't let that fear of losing creep in at this time of the year. There's almost that feeling like we want the playoffs to get here, but there's still a lot of hockey left. "We'll address that, nip that, and stay focused for these last 11 games of the season." NOTE: The Coyotes on Friday recalled defenseman Philip Samuelsson on emergency basis from the Springfield Falcons, the club's American Hockey League affiliate. The 24-year-old Samuelsson has recorded four goals and 26 assists in 53 games with Springfield this season. foxsportsarizona.com LOADED:

Boston Bruins Jonas Gustavsson likely starter for Bruins tonight By Fluto Shinzawa MARCH 18, 2016 ANAHEIM, Calif. Jonas Gustavsson manned the visitors net during Friday s morning skate at Honda Center, indicating he will start in goal for the Bruins tonight against the Ducks. Gustavsson has been Tuukka Rask s backup for the last three games, including Tuesday s 3-2 loss to San Jose. In his last start on March 8, Gustavsson turned back all 42 shots in the Bruins 1-0 win over Tampa Bay. It was one of Gustavsson s best games as a Bruin. With Gustavsson starting Friday, it s a good bet Rask will get the nod for Saturday s game against Los Angeles. Jimmy Hayes practiced on the fourth line for the second straight day. Joe Morrow and Zach Trotman stayed on for extra work along with Chris Kelly. The two defensemen will serve as the spares. Frederik Andersen will start in goal for the Ducks. John Gibson has been sick but is well enough to back up Andersen. Friday s expected lineup: Forward lines Brad Marchand-Patrice Bergeron-Lee Stempniak Loui Eriksson-David Krejci-David Pastrnak Matt Beleskey-Ryan Spooner-Brett Connolly Landon Ferraro-Noel Acciari-Jimmy Hayes Defense pairings Zdeno Chara-Kevan Miller Torey Krug-Adam McQuaid John-Michael Liles-Dennis Seidenberg Goalies Jonas Gustavsson Tuukka Rask Ducks at a glance When, where: Friday, 10 p.m., at Honda Center, Anaheim, Calif. 11 Boston Bruins Bruins can t match up with high-flying Ducks By Fluto Shinzawa MARCH 19, 2016 down to Saturday s game against Los Angeles to claim at least one point from the road trip. We need to take some points home on this road trip, said Matt Beleskey. That s a tough loss for us. When it s 2-0, we were right there. We had some chances. Freddie played good. We couldn t quite get that one to break the ice, then they get a couple in the third. That s it. Boston Globe LOADED: ANAHEIM, Calif. The Bruins played well in Friday s second period against the Ducks. They hung in for most of the third. But neither their legs nor their luck were with them in the first. By then, the Ducks had put the game away. They were well on their way to a 4-0 win at Honda Center to drop the Bruins to 0-2 on the three-game California swing. Corey Perry s slapper from the left-side half-wall thudded off Adam McQuaid and landed on the stick of Jamie McGinn, who helped push the puck over the line at 2:51 of the first to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. The Ducks made the best of the bounce. Just over a minute later, the Ducks took advantage of a poor sequence by the Bruins. Jakob Silfverberg blocked a Lee Stempniak shot. The Ducks took off. Andrew Cogliano blew past Dennis Seidenberg, which forced John-Michael Liles to chase. Jonas Gustavsson got a piece of Cogliano s shot. But he couldn t squeeze the puck, which allowed an unmarked Ryan Kesler to punch in the rebound to give Anaheim a 2-0 lead. A behemoth like Anaheim only needs two goals to put an opponent down for good. Bruins Matt Beleskey eager for playoffs to arrive I don t think it was a 4-0 game, to be honest with you, said coach Claude Julien. Their first one is a ping-pong goal, goes off two or three people before it goes in. Not a good one on the second one. We dig ourselves a hole there, 2-0. But we had our chances. I thought their goaltender really stood tall when he had to. I thought that made a big difference in the game. We had as many chances and as many opportunities as they did tonight. But they cashed in. We didn t. The Bruins are done with the Ducks for the season, unless things go very well for the two clubs in the playoffs. The Bruins will not miss running into the Ducks, who swept the season series. The Ducks won the earlier meeting at TD Garden on Jan. 26, 6-2. In both wins, Anaheim applied its speed, skill, and physicality to control the game for most of its 60 minutes. The Bruins learned the hard way how much of a handful the ornery Ducks can be. On Friday, Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau reunited top guns Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, with McGinn riding shotgun alongside the two studs. With the last change, Boudreau was able to get his first line away from Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and Lee Stempniak, the Bruins best two-way unit. Bergeron s line spent most of the night matched against No. 2 center Ryan Kesler, who is skating as well as he s ever done before. When their top two centers are flying, their mobile defensemen are moving the puck and supporting the rush, and Frederik Andersen is slamming the door shut, there are not many teams better than the Ducks. They re a big team and they have a lot of skill, Marchand said. They re able to hold on to the puck. They cycle it really well. When you have big guys like that with that much skill, sometimes it s hard to take the puck away from them. I didn t think we played that bad. I don t think they dominated us or anything like that. The Bruins best second-period chances came off the sticks of Bergeron and Loui Eriksson. When Marchand sprinted down the left wing and flipped the puck to the net, Bergeron was there to redirect it on goal. But Andersen got a piece of the puck before a backchecking Kesler knocked the net off its pegs at 14:39. Later in the second, Eriksson pounced on the rebound of a David Pastrnak shot. But Andersen dove to his right and gloved Eriksson s bid at 18:52. The second period was pretty decent, Krejci said. We had some chances. Loui had a great chance. Bergy had a great chance. There were some opportunities to come back in the game. But we ve had a tough time the last two games putting the puck in the net. The Ducks added two insurance goals in the third. Hampus Lindholm and Rickard Rakell slipped pucks behind Gustavsson (22 saves). At the other end, Andersen (38 saves) continued to get the best of the Bruins, who are

Boston Bruins Bruins Matt Beleskey eager for playoffs to arrive By Fluto Shinzawa MARCH 18, 2016 ANAHEIM, Calif. Matt Beleskey is back in Southern California, and the sun is out. To the left wing, those two things remind him of what s to come. It s the best time of year, the ex-duck said of the NHL postseason. It s the best hockey to play. You always have the most fun during the playoffs. That s the time I ll always look forward to. On July 1, 2015, the Bruins succeeded in their pursuit of Beleskey. They had identified the left wing as a worthy recipient of a five-year, $19 million contract because of his rugged north-south game. The Bruins traded Milan Lucic to Los Angeles partly because of his inconsistent regular-season presence. They didn t have the same concerns about Beleskey. So far, Beleskey has proven them right. After a quiet break-in period, Beleskey has grown into a dependable presence on the left side, available to play on the second and third lines, depending on coach Claude Julien s preference. Through 69 games, Beleskey has 13 goals and 20 assists while averaging 15:43 of ice time per appearance. He has been the high man on the No. 2 power-play unit. He has killed penalties when necessary. He has taken the body at all times. The Bruins made Beleskey their primary target in free agency also because of his playoff pedigree. Last year, he played in 16 playoff games. That s 16 more than most of his current teammates, who were golfing while he was running over the Jets, Flames, and Blackhawks en route to eight goals. Only Corey Perry (10) scored more goals in the playoffs for Anaheim than Beleskey. Great. He was great, said Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau. All the years I had him here, I thought the playoffs was when Matt came to the surface even more. He was a good player. He was physical, he scored important goals, and he was responsible. The Bruins are in good shape for the playoffs. They are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, 5 points ahead of Detroit, the No. 8 seed and fourth-place team in the Atlantic Division. The competition becomes more nasty and violent in the playoffs. The rise in intensity suits Beleskey s game. He is not shy about executing hard-hat work on the walls, in the corners, or in front of the net. While his postseason helped earn him his current deal, he has a history of playoff results. In , Beleskey punched in two goals and two assists in five games. The year before, he had two goals and one assist in seven games. When the Bruins are clicking, they play like the Ducks: structured, grinding, and with good pace. He s fit into that system, said former teammate Ryan Getzlaf. They play the same style we do. They play that up-tempo, forechecking kind of a game. Beleskey spent seven seasons in Anaheim s system. But he progressed to the point where the team that picked him in the fourth round of the 2006 draft could not afford to match his open-market price. The Ducks appreciated his service. He enjoyed his time with the Ducks. Now the Bruins are hoping he can match what he did for his former team in the playoffs. Beleskey gets lucky Things nearly went very badly for Beleskey at 16:16 of the first, when former teammate Simon Despres clipped him in the face with an uncalled high stick. Despres s blade caught Beleskey across the right eye, opening up a cut and sending him rushing to the dressing room. At first, Beleskey couldn t see out of his right eye. But his vision returned, allowing him to come back to the bench just as the second period started. Beleskey, who does not usually wear a shield, finished the game with a visor. Luckily it was off to the side, said Beleskey. Just a little scary at first. The vision s good and all that. Just another black eye. After the game, there was a red slash under Beleskey s eye, which was slightly pink. The area under his eye was purple. We ll see, said Beleskey when asked if he d wear a shield full-time. Hayes scratched Jimmy Hayes was a healthy scratch against the Ducks. The Dorchester native is in his last 10 games. He was scratched for two straight games against Vancouver and Nashville on Dec. 5 and 7. Brett Connolly played in Hayes s former spot on the third line, while Tyler Randell skated on the fourth line. It was Randell s first game since Feb Neither Connolly nor Lee Stempniak recorded a single shot attempt... Tuukka Rask should be in net against the Kings after backing up Jonas Gustavsson against the Ducks... Zach Trotman and Joe Morrow were the healthy scratches on defense. Boston Globe LOADED:

Boston Bruins One perk to covering Bruins in LA: Coffee heaven By Fluto Shinzawa MARCH 18, 2016 When the Bruins practice in Los Angeles, they skate at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. That s a very good thing. With good fortune, it takes 15 minutes to drive north from El Segundo to Venice, which is also a very good thing. That s because Venice is a serious coffee town. The proof is on a three-block stretch on Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Two of those blocks are occupied by Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia, which are as good as you can get in coffee s third wave. Having two of coffee s best procurers and roasters within a slap shot s distance is the equivalent of Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron playing on the same line: a wealth of assets. I m a coffee geek. I acknowledge I am in the minority, considering the music produced by the busy cash registers at our preferred New England chain. If there is anything I d like drinkers to try, it s good coffee made by places such as Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia. A pourover of black coffee at either stop is a beverage crafted to be enjoyed, not chased down in a frenzied fix of caffeine. Every sip is good. The taste lingers long after the last drop. Coffee at Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia is a special treat, indicated by their respective per-cup prices ($4.50 and $6). I will argue, however, that it s well worth the price. One cup per day of the good stuff is all you ll need to rev your engine in the morning or keep it humming in the afternoon. It becomes a cup you look forward to and enjoy, not a commodity guzzled in the car or on the T without a second thought. It is a slow drink that develops when each splash of perfectly heated water (210 Fahrenheit, just off the boil) drips through the grounds. It s worth the five-minute wait. With Bruins in LA, ramen is first order of business Jidaiya in Gardena, Calif., is just a 15-minute ride from LAX airport and a good first stop on the way to the rink. If you buy good beans and make coffee at home, the prices swing in your favor. The initial investment in a basic burr grinder (I have the Capresso Infinity, $99.99) is pricey. A standard French press is about $30. A 12-ounce bag usually runs around $15 and lasts me about 10 days. But in the long run, you can make a great cup of coffee at home for about the same as you ll pay for a big cup of weak blah or a slug of swill over-roasted to death. Blue Bottle in Venice, Calif. Unless you are crazy enough to travel with such a kit, it can be hard to find quality coffee on the road. Not in Venice. On Thursday morning, the line was out the door at Blue Bottle. In the afternoon, there was a good crowd at Intelligentsia as I settled down to write. I m not sure why coffee is a big deal in LA. Perhaps it s the thing that keeps screenwriters fueled and pecking away on their MacBooks. Maybe a strong cup gets the natives prepped for their spin classes. Whatever the reasons are, I enjoy the results. At Blue Bottle, a cup of Kenyan was bright, lively, and explosive with flavor. At Intelligentsia, the Rwandan was deeper, darker, and more robust. Naturally, being a hockey writer, I like to rank things. My wife doesn t get it. She thinks I should enjoy things for what they are. But when you re in the business of identifying good players from their competition, you do the same thing with coffee. I ve always been a Blue Bottle guy, from the time I had an eye-opening cup in San Francisco to the beans I ve mail-ordered at home. But Intelligentsia is excellent. Their espressos might be better than their pourovers. That both are available in a three-block segment makes me wish for a similar setup back home. To Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia, please consider Boston. We need you. Boston Globe LOADED:

Boston Bruins Jimmy Hayes down, Brett Connolly up in Bruins' line moves Stephen Harris Thursday, March 17, 2016 EL SEGUNDO, Calif. Though they face the Ducks tomorrow night in Anaheim, the Bruins are spending their three days in Southern California at a beachfront hotel in Santa Monica. The team practiced today at the Los Angeles Kings grand practice facility in El Segundo. The most obvious change in the B s setup: Winger Brett Connolly moved up from the fourth line to the third, with Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey. Jimmy Hayes, scoreless in his last 10 games, dropped to the fourth trio. After taking on the Ducks tomorrow night, the B s bus back to Santa Monica. They face the Kings at Staples Center Saturday night in the trip finale. The club announced the details of the ninth annual Cuts For a Cause, to be held March 30 (4:30-6 p.m.) at the Westin Waterfront Hotel. The longest tenured Bruin, Patrice Bergeron, is the leader of the beneficial and fun event, in which 24 B s players will sacrifice their hair to help raise money for the B s foundation and the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. Eight years of Cuts For a Cause have raised more than $500,000 for charity. For more info, check BostonBruins.com. AUTHORS Stephen Harris Boston Herald LOADED:

Boston Bruins Bruins trip and fall again, blanked by Ducks Stephen Harris Saturday, March 19, 2016 ANAHEIM, Calif. The Bruins traveled to California with high hopes: They recently had beaten several top teams, and saw no reason the trend couldn t continue against heavweight trio of West Coast teams. It hasn t quite worked out too well. After losing a winnable game Tuesday in San Jose, the B s last night got outplayed early by the Ducks and, while they kept trying admirably, were never a threat in dropping a 4-0 decision. After a bad start, the Ducks are since Christmas. The B s hoped to be able to hang on to their spot atop the Atlantic Division. But unless they can salvage a point or two tonight in LA vs. the powerful Kings, they ll go 0-for-California. Tyler Randell got a rare game, as Jimmy Hayes dropped to the fourth line in practice Thursday was a healthy scratch for the game. It was the first DNP since Dec. 7 for Hayes, who is mired in a 10-game scoreless slump. Randell didn t play a lot, but was noticeable for some raucous forechecking shifts. Watch the Ducks play and it s easy to understand just what the term heavy team means. This is not the most purely talented team in the NHL although it obviously has a slew of very skilled guys but what it is is a team of guys who are big, very fast, aggressive and hard-working. They compete like crazy on every puck. Everything is done at high speed and with a purpose. The speed and skill were apparent when the Ducks more or less put the game on ice 0:58 into Period 3. Towering Anaheim center Ryan Getzlaf, on the forecheck, followed B s D-man John-Michael Liles. When Liles tried to pass the puck, Getzlaf deftly reached out and intercepted the pass. He fed a quick feed in front, where D Hampus Lindholm snapped a one-timer that beat goalie Jonas Gustavsson making it 3-0. Rickard Rakell made it 4-0 with 5:32 left on a wrister, far-side, from the left circle. Later in the third, Bruin Zdeno Chara had a rare fight vs. 6-foot-4, 216-pound Clayton Stoner. Before any punches landed, Chara lost his balance and took an ignominious fall. The Bruins may have had three days to prepare for this one, but they still got blitzed early as the Ducks put two of their first four shots behind goalie Jonas Gustavsson, taking a 2-0 lead just 4:07 in. There was no fault on the first one, as a Corey Perry slapper from atop the left circle bounced off Bruin Adam McQuaid a few feet out from the crease, then off Ducks winger Jamie McGinn before dribbling past Gustavsson at 2:51. The second home team goal exposed a flaw in Gustavsson s play: Giving up dangerous rebounds. The scoring play began with Bruin Lee Stempniak turning the puck over at the Anaheim line. Winger Andrew Cagliano took off down left wing and let go a shot from the circle. Gustavsson was out and square to the shot, and tried to cradle the puck to his chest. But he dropped it into his crease behind him and Ducks center Ryan Kessler raced in checker Patrice Bergeron chasing a few strides behind to tap in the three-inch putt of a goal. With Chara off for interference on an onrushing winger Nick Ritchie an infraction the veteran D-man usually gets away with the Ducks banged a pair of shots seconds apart off goal posts, with ex-panther Brandon Pirri showing off his great shot from the right circle, and Perry tipping a Cam Fowler point shot, just failing to make it 3-0. Thereafter, the B s hung in gamely, continuing to play their get-it-deep and forecheck game. They actually outshot their hosts in the period, 11-10, but went to the room down 2-0. The Ducks expected the B s to be a tough opponent. They ve had three days off since their last game and they re the best road team in the league, said Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau. They ve proven that they could be the No. 1 seed coming out of the Atlantic. With Claude, who s very structured, they play the same way all the time and they re very patient. Winger Matt Beleskey, excited about his first return to the rink in which he played the previous six years as a Duck, had to be helped off the ice with 3:44 left in the first, the apparent victim of an unintentional high stick. Beleskey got whatever repairs were required and was back to start Period 2 blocking shots and hitting everyone he could catch. The Bruins kept working hard in the scoreless second, but couldn t dent the Anaheim defense or goalie Frederik Anderson. One of their best chances: Loui Eriksson s whack a rebound at the left goalmouth with 1:08 left. The period ended with a little mele behind the Anaheim net, with Brad Marchand and David Perron in the middle of it and both incurring minor penalties to start the third. Boston Herald LOADED:
