Anaheim Ducks Ducks make quick work of the Coyotes for 10th win in a row Staff Kevin Bieksa leaned in to listen to teammate Cam Fowler's lengthy answer to reporters about the Ducks' team record-tying 10th consecutive victory and was unimpressed. What a boring answer! Bieksa said, smirking. Everything else surrounding the Ducks lately is quite entertaining. Corey Perry had a goal and two assists, Jamie McGinn and Rickard Rakell scored on the Ducks' first two shots and the Pacific Division co-leaders kept rolling Thursday night with a 5-1 victory over the reeling Arizona Coyotes. Fowler and Josh Manson also scored, and Frederik Andersen stopped 27 shots as the Ducks remained tied with the Kings atop the division standings going into Saturday's showdown at Staples Center. Perry, who has five goals and three assists in three games, helped the Ducks match the team's winning streak despite the absence of injured captain Ryan Getzlaf, who was a late scratch because of a lower-body injury. Not bad for a team that was 16 points back before embarking on a stretch. Obviously, I'm proud of the group from where we've come to where we are now, said Ryan Kesler, who had two assists. We all believed in this room. Anthony Duclair scored for the Coyotes, who've lost seven in a row. Niklas Treutle gave up five goals on 16 shots in first NHL start. McGinn collected Treutle's mishandled puck behind the net and jammed in his second goal in two games since being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres. Rakell's one-timer on the power play 46 seconds later made the score 2-0 less than six minutes into the game. It's tough when you're playing one of the best teams in the league, Treutle said, and you're chasing from the beginning. Asked why he started Treutle against the NHL's hottest team, Coyotes Coach Dave Tippett said he had no choice because Louis Domingue had started 11 consecutive games. Fowler's slap shot on the power play early in the second period made the score 3-0. The Ducks went three for seven on the power play and have scored with the man advantage in every game during their streak. Our power play has been ridiculous, Coach Bruce Boudreau said. 5 Anaheim Ducks What we learned from the Ducks' 3-2 shootout win over the Canadiens Curtis Zupke Another day, another way. The Ducks again carved a path to victory, this time against Montreal, which was poised to pull off an upset with an early lead and a game goalie in Mike Condon. But Corey Perry s statement goal, Jakob Silfverberg s shootout wizardry and John Gibson s steadiness provided a 3-2 win Wednesday. Here s what we learned: The second line has potential It was their first game, but newly acquired wing Jamie McGinn fit in with Corey Perry and Rickard Rakell. McGinn nearly scored in the first period on a rush with Rakell before his first goal as a Duck in the second. See the most-read stories in Sports this hour >> McGinn s game is similar to Perry's in that he goes to the slot and is willing to take the punishment necessary to score. He is also a big body at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds. It s going to take time, just like anything, McGinn said. I want to be there for them and support them and help out. Just like any line, it s going to take a little bit to click. Jakob Silfverberg is probably under-appreciated Silfverberg beat Condon with a snap shot and is four-for-six in the shootout this season. He owns the best shootout efficiency rating in NHL history (minimum 20 attempts) at 62.1% (18-for-29). Such mastery largely goes unnoticed but Silfverberg has helped the Ducks win three of their six shootout games this season. The Ducks are adapting in their streak It says a lot that a team can have an off game and still win, which is what the Ducks have achieved recently. They were largely outplayed at the start and did not play with the puck much. They went a long stretch without a shot. And it looked like they might be due for their second regulation loss in 18 games, but their rally from 1-0 and 2-1 made them in that span. It s good for us to do it now, and down the road we ll have that in our back pocket, [knowing] we ve done it before and we can do it again, Gibson said. Gibson typically shies from individual accolades, but he said it was an honor to be named to North America s under-23 team for the World Cup. He hadn t seen the jersey that they unveiled, though. I didn t really look, because when they announced it, I was driving to the rink, he said. LA Times: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Ducks power their way to 10th victory in row March 3, 2016 Updated 11:46 p.m. By ERIC STEPHENS / STAFF WRITER GLENDALE, Ariz. History could be made by the Ducks when they play on Saturday, and it is an about-face twist that reflects their remarkable Jekyll-and-Hyde season. This group that was once threatening to reach new lows for offensive futility, continued its rampage Thursday night, scoring three times with its white-hot power play and rolling to a 5-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes for its 10th straight victory to tie a franchise record. They also captured 10 in a row from Dec in 2013, in their franchise-best 54-win season. But that outfit never had to dig out of an October hole. Now they head into Saturday s matinee rematch at Staples Center against the Kings in a Southern California showdown for first place in the Pacific Division. The biggest thing is when we don t have our A game, we re still finding ways to win, Ducks center Ryan Kesler said. After lapses in our play, we come back with a really strong game. That s why we ve won 10 in a row. Corey Perry scored for the third straight game and assisted on two other goals. Jamie McGinn has goals in his first two games with the Ducks, while Rickard Rakell, Cam Fowler and Josh Manson all tallied. All of this was done without the services of captain Ryan Getzlaf, who was held out to nurse a lower-body injury suffered Wednesday against Montreal. Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said it made sense to rest Getzlaf and get him ready for the Kings. The Ducks ( ) made Arizona pay for repeated trips to the penalty box, using their power play to put away three of their eight chances as they gave Coyotes rookie goalie Niklas Treutle a rude welcoming in his first NHL start. A 17-for-41 conversion rate in the past 10 games has lifted the Ducks power play into the NHL s top five. Kesler and Sami Vatanen each had two assists. It s always been a point of negativity with our group, Fowler said. At least for the last few years. People always said, Why isn t their power play better with the skill that they have? I think as a group and especially the five-man units, we ve worked extremely hard on it this year. Perry, who wasn t selected to the initial Team Canada list for this fall s World Cup of Hockey, continued his scorching play by scoring his fifth goal in three games to cap a three-goal outburst in the second period. The winger leads the Ducks with 28 goals. Early on, it was McGinn and Rakell giving the Ducks goals on their first two shots against a rattled Truetle. Louis Domingue would ultimately replace the 24-year-old German in the third period after Treutle allowed five goals on 16 shots. Any goalie, you want to test him early, Manson said. We knew going into it that this is his first game so you want to get as many pucks to him as you can and just kind of get a feel for him and hopefully get a few like we did. The Ducks trailed the Kings by 16 points in the division as recently as the middle of January. Now they re on a blitz and their record since Christmas is the league s best, even better than what Presidents Trophy leader Washington is doing. Obviously proud of the group, from where we ve come to where we are now, Kesler said. We all believed in this room and we stuck together. We could have easily folded up the season and said we ll get em next year. But we didn t. We came back from a deep hole and we were hovering around.500 for a while and finally broke through. 7 Anaheim Ducks As a Dane, Ducks goalie Andersen delighted to be on Team Europe's initial list March 3, 2016 Updated 11:56 p.m. By ERIC STEPHENS / STAFF WRITER GLENDALE, Ariz. Some of his teammates have extensive experience when it comes to hockey on the international level and a few of them have medals of the gold, silver and bronze variety in their collection. Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen doesn t have the shiny hardware. He s from Denmark, a growing hockey nation on the world scene but one that isn t on the superpower level with the United States, Canada, Sweden, Russia and Finland. He ll get the chance to compete at that level. Andersen is savoring his inclusion on Team Europe s initial 16-player list for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey that was released Wednesday. The selection is a reflection of how far the 6-foot-3 Dane has come as an NHL goaltender. Andersen joined the Ducks as a big talent who needed to get into much better shape and now he s become a No. 1 goalie who is right with teammate John Gibson for the starting job on his own team. That obviously doesn t happen if you don t play well, said Andersen, who made 27 saves in the Ducks 5-1 win over Arizona on Thursday. Those things are byproducts of doing your job every day here. Preparing for every game and practice. I think now it s like an extra bonus when you do your job good here. Andersen and Jaroslav Halak of the New York Islanders are the initial goalies selected for Team Europe, a group of players from his homeland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Slovenia and Germany. Some other notable players include Kings center Anze Kopitar, Boston s Zdeno Chara, Chicago s Marian Hossa and Nashville s Roman Josi. Andersen joked about what national anthem would be played at the games. It s a little bit of the misfits, Andersen said. It s not a country. It s a bunch of different countries with proud hockey cultures. A lot of them might be smaller than obviously the rest of the group. I think it s definitely something to be proud of, to be one of the three goalies and one of the first group of roster spots. It s a little different feeling because I take a lot of pride in playing for my country when I get the chance. It s going to be a little bit different. What Andersen has long been proud of is the growth Demark is making in terms of producing NHL talent. Colorado s Mikkel Boedker, Vancouver s Jannik Hansen and the Islanders Frans Nielsen were also named to the team. Any time you play for Denmark, everyone knows each other, Andersen said. Gets along. And I think we re going to have a little bit of a group there. Get to see each other again, play together again and meet some other new players from around Europe. STONER GETS CHANCE A hip injury for much of the season has forced Clayton Stoner to periodically miss games and it was serious enough that he had to be shut down in the middle of January. A strong blue line corps kept him in the press box when he finally got in position to play. Stoner is getting a chance now with action in the last two games as Simon Despres deals with flu symptoms. It is his first action since Jan. 15 against Dallas, and while he felt his conditioning was there, his timing in reading plays could use some sharpening. You want the perfect game always, Stoner said. As a player, you notice when there s little things that you might not feel 100 percent confident and comfortable. So there s just a couple of little areas I d like to clean up. But that s just not having played in a while. It comes back quickly. A seven-year veteran, Stoner has been around long enough to read situations and there s the knowledge that Despres figures to be right back in the lineup once he is healthy. So this is the time to prove to the coaching staff that he s an option by playing solid hockey and being reliable. I know the ebbs and flows of a season, Stoner said. There s good times and there s bad times. The team s done a great job. But there s always those opportunities. If you stay patient and you work hard off the ice, show the coaches you want to play. Knock on wood, you hope everybody stays healthy but there s always going to be an opportunity. I think the big thing is keeping your mind right and staying focused on the future. Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau asks only that Stoner keep his game simple. He competes every night, Boudreau said. All the time. Whether he s good, bad or whether he makes a mistake or doesn t. And I always say I ll accept errors of commission and effort. The ones you don t accept are the lazy ones. And that doesn t happen to him too often. Orange County Register: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Ducks trump Canadiens: What you need to know March 2, 2016 Updated March 3, :30 a.m. By ERIC STEPHENS / STAFF WRITER ANAHEIM Here s what you need to know about the Ducks 3-2 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night: THE GAME IN 140 CHARACTERS OR FEWER - The Ducks were sluggish and struggling Montreal was inspired but Corey Perry, Jakob Silfverberg and John Gibson kept them streaking in end. QUOTE OF THE NIGHT Found a way. You got to give them a lot of credit. They played hard, they played quick. They played with a lot of emotion. We found a way to battle back in that hockey game and eventually get the two points. - Ducks winger Corey Perry STAT OF THE NIGHT - The Ducks nine-game winning streak is the second longest in franchise history. The longest came in 2013 when they won 10 in a row from Dec PLAYER OF THE GAME - Gibson. The Ducks goalie gets the close nod over Montreal s Alex Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk scored both goals for the Canadiens, including the second one on a shot that Gibson would want another crack at. But it was Gibson who turned the talented forward away in the shootout, as well as two others to keep his team rolling. ANALYSIS - An Eastern Conference opponent. A team that s been plummeting for months and was in sell mode at the NHL trade deadline. A quiet, non-sellout crowd. Perhaps it was no surprise that the Ducks weren t very engaged in the first 30 minutes or so. The Canadiens aren t very good these days and they were trying out some youngsters, given that they moved some veterans at the deadline and have a number of key players (David Desharnais, Tom Gilbert, Jeff Petry) likely out for the season. But they were winning many of the races to the puck while the Ducks had some occasional flourishes yet couldn t put scoring plays together. Mike Condon was playing solidly in goal and the Canadiens, boosted by the two goals from Galchenyuk, were threatening to steal one out of Anaheim. But when teams start to throw their weight around whether by design or in response it gets the Ducks into it and that s been a good thing. They were far more active in a dominant second period and carried that into third, even when Galchenyuk gave Montreal another lead. Kevin Bieksa blew up Canadiens forward Lars Eller and, as he s done throughout his career, answered the bell when 6-foot-6 Montreal rookie Michael McCarron took offense. Nate Thompson has been playing a physical game for a while and Andrew Cogliano continues to play an industrious game, even if he s unable to put away the chances that he gets. And then the Ducks did what they do best in the end. John Gibson came up with enough stops, Corey Perry kept the power play humming by finishing off great work from Cam Fowler and David Perron and Jakob Silfverberg did his usual thing when it got to the shootout. It was just one game for the new guy and Jamie McGinn looked out of place on some shifts, which is entirely expected from someone who hasn't had a full skate or a practice with his teammates. But McGinn showed why Ducks GM Bob Murray had him on his deadline list. His goal is exactly what they need -- someone that can join Perry and Perron as wingers that love to live in front of the net and have the hands to make something happen. As he noted afterward, McGinn scored the type of goal that's more the case in today's NHL -- the one that's more likely to occur in the postseason than a slap shot off the rush. Because of Simon Despres's current illness, Clayton Stoner found his way back into the defensive mix. It was a Stoner kind of game, a bit of an adventure with the puck handling and skating but some committed physical play and the occasional play breakup mixed in. As a depth option, the veteran is good enough in that role. It was far from their best effort but the Ducks continue to get it done, by any means possible. KEY MOMENT - Jakob Silfverberg should file a patent for his wrist shot in the shootout. It the same spot on the glove side. There is a quick bit of deception and then the goalies can t pick it up until it s too late. He s now 4-for-6 for the season and 18-for-29 for his career. ANY NEWS? - Clayton Stoner drew into the lineup for the first time since Jan. 15 as Simon Despres was unable to play because of the flu. Stoner has been battling a hip flexor injury for much of the season and then was a healthy scratch for a few games after improving. - Trade deadline acquisitions Jamie McGinn and Brandon Pirri are in Anaheim, with McGinn making his Ducks debut and scoring his first goal. Pirri is still recovering from an ankle injury but hopes to being skating again once he gains clearance from the medical staff. MORE POSTGAME QUOTES JOHN GIBSON (on how much they want it to keep their streak going ) I think it s nice. I think at the same time we just want to keep playing the right way. We know that if we play the right way and play the way we can play, hopefully it keeps going for a little bit longer. (on being able to win in different ways and without their best game ) It s good for us to do it now. And down the road, we ll have that in our back pocket to kind of say we ve done it before and we can do it again. (on making Team North America s World Cup roster ) Yeah it ll be fun. Still a ways away. I don t really know what s going to go on and everything like that. The schedule. It s an honor to be named on it. A good group of guys and I m sure they ll add more to it. JAMIE MCGINN (on skating with Rakell and Perry ) It s going to take time, just like anything. I want to be there with them and support them and help out. Just like any line, it s going to take a little bit to click. All three of us will work hard and work hard to jell quickly and be a good line. (on net-front goals being the kind he scores ) I think that s what everyone s been saying about me this year. As long as I park myself in front and make sure I jam away and not miss those opportunities, that s what I want to do. And that s how I can contribute. Just be a presence in front of the net. A lot of goals in the NHL are scored in the blue paint. That s a good spot to park myself. COREY PERRY (on winning despite not being at their best ) Found a way. You got to give them a lot of credit. They played hard, they played quick. They played with a lot of emotion. We found a way to battle back in that hockey game and eventually get the two points. (on difficulty summoning emotion after important game against Kings ) Obviously emotional games, they take a lot out of you. With everything that s gone on the last couple of days, you knew they were going to come out and have their best game after what happened in San Jose. They did that tonight. They pushed us right to the end and right to the max. BRUCE BOUDREAU (on the victory ) I didn t think we played that good, but you have to give that other team credit. They played really good. They kept coming. We re getting a good will to win right now. (on staying the course in the game ) They kept their composure on the bench. We didn t start complaining. That s an important thing. Sometimes [these] games get away from us emotionally and we start taking dumb penalties. I thought tonight we played within the whistles pretty good. (on McGinn s goal ) When he goes to the net, he s a big man. He s hard to move out of the way. He has good hands. He kept his eye on the puck after the rebound. That s what you need from him. POSTGAME NOTES Ryan Garbutt was credited with four hits in 13:12 and took his first penalty with Ducks.

Clayton Stoner had a team-high six hits in 14:27, his first action since Jan. 15. Josh Manson had an assist and also saved an apparent goal in the first period. Corey Perry scored his team-leading 27th goal and had a team-best five shots on net. Ryan Getzlaf went without a point and had his 11-game point streak end. David Perron assisted on Perry s tying goal, giving him nine points in 10 games. The Ducks had a edge in blocked shots and advantage in hits. Montreal goalie Mike Condon stopped 33 of 35 shots. Canadiens forward Lars Eller had an assist and a plus-2 rating in 17:45. 10 Anaheim Ducks Anaheim Ducks match franchise mark with 10th win in a row By Mike Cranston, The Associated Press POSTED: 03/03/16, 10:15 PM PST UPDATED: 1 HR AGO # COMMENTS The Coyotes fell to since Jan. 14 to fall 10 points behind Minnesota for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Getzlaf was a late scratch with a lower-body injury, but Anaheim looked sharp despite traveling after a home shootout win over a Montreal a night earlier. We re winning hockey games in a variety of ways, Fowler said. I think we re showing a lot about ourselves. LA Daily News: LOADED: GLENDALE, Ariz. >> Kevin Bieksa leaned in to listen to teammate Cam Fowler s lengthy answer to reporters about the Ducks team record-tying 10th straight win and was unimpressed. What a boring answer! Bieksa said, smirking. Everything else surrounding the Ducks lately is quite entertaining. Corey Perry had a goal and two assists, Jamie McGinn and Rickard Rakell scored on Anaheim s first two shots, and the Ducks rolled along Thursday night with a 5-1 victory over the reeling Arizona Coyotes. Fowler and Josh Manson also scored, and Frederik Andersen stopped 27 shots as Anaheim stayed atop the Pacific Division tied with the Kings, who beat Montreal 3-2. Perry, who has five goals and three assists in three games, helped the Ducks match the team s winning streak despite injured captain Ryan Getzlaf s absence. Not bad for a team that was 16 points back before embarking on a stretch. Obviously, I m proud of the group from where we ve come to where we are now, said Ryan Kesler, who had two assists. We all believed in this room. Anthony Duclair scored, and Niklas Treutle allowed five goals on 16 shots in first NHL start for the Coyotes in their seventh straight loss. McGinn collected Treutle s mishandled puck behind the net and jammed in his second goal in two games since being acquired from Buffalo. Rakell s one-timer on the power play 46 seconds later made it 2-0 less than 6 minutes in. It s tough when you re playing one of the best teams in the league and you re chasing from the beginning, Treutle said. Asked why he started Treutle against the NHL s hottest team, Arizona coach Dave Tippett said I had no choice because Louis Domingue had started 11 straight games. I ll take the responsibility, Tippett said. We put a young player in a position he s not ready for. Fowler s slap shot on the power play early in the second period made it 3-0, allowing Anaheim to look forward to Saturday s showdown with the Kings for the Pacific Division lead. The Ducks went 3 for 7 on the power play and have scored with the man-advantage in every game during the win streak. Our power play has been ridiculous, coach Bruce Boudreau said. McGinn, who also assisted on Manson s goal, gives the Ducks even more offense. Perry, meanwhile, reached 49 points with his goal late in the second period that chased Treutle. Duclair s 17th goal in the second period, a one-timer on the power play, is Arizona s only score in two games. It was the Coyotes first home game since they traded third-leading scorer Mikkel Boedker to Colorado at the end of an 0-5 trip. Veteran Alex Tanguay, acquired from the Avalanche, didn t dress with an injury despite practicing the day before. Treutle, who made four saves in his only other NHL game Feb. 20 against St. Louis, replaced the struggling Domingue. And he was overwhelmed with nerves early. The 24-year-old also earned a penalty for sending a clearance into the stands before recording his first save. He was probably a little rattled, Boudreau said. Domingue stopped five shots in the third period.

Arizona Coyotes Arizona Coyotes rolled by Anaheim Ducks as losing streak reaches seven Sarah McLellan, azcentral sports 10:48 p.m. MST March 3, 2016 Shane Doan, Kevin Bieksa Coyotes goalie Niklas Treutle wasn t exactly handed an easy assignment for his first NHL start, catching one of the league s juggernauts during an almost unbeatable run. After Louis Domingue started 11 consecutive games, his most recent outing being a lopsided 6-0 defeat, the Coyotes felt they had to make a change in net. But not only was Treutle overwhelmed, the 5-1 mismatch against the Ducks in front of 11,999 Thursday at Gila River Arena extended the Coyotes losing streak to a season-high seven games. This is the team s worst slide since it dropped eight in a row March 7-22, I had no choice, coach Dave Tippett said. I ll take responsibility. We put a young player in a position he s not ready for. It s obvious he s not ready for it. But Louis played 11 straight, looked tired on the road. That s where we are. We have to give Louis a break. That s too much to ask for a young guy. Now that being said, throwing the young guy in there tonight was probably too much to ask from him, too. Domingue and Treutle have been tasked with the team's netminding duties after injuries to both No.1 Mike Smith and backup Anders Lindback. While Lindback is sidelined for the remainder of the season after having surgery on an Achilles injury, the Coyotes are hopeful Smith returns sometime this month. He's been out since having surgery on a core muscle injury in mid-december. "Still practicing," Tippett said. "That's all I know." Ducks winger Corey Perry had a goal and two assists, Anaheim s power play scored three times and goalie Frederik Andersen totaled 27 saves to continue Anaheim s incredible climb to a playoff spot. The Ducks have gone in their last 19 and are since action resumed after the Christmas break, resembling the perennial power they re considered to be in the same time the Coyotes spiraled down the standings. It s tough when you re playing one of the best teams in the league, and you re chasing from the beginning, Treutle said. The Ducks capitalized on their first two shots, highlighting a tough start for Treutle. After he went behind the net to corral a dump-in, his clearing attempt hit Perry and winger Jamie McGinn scooped up the loose puck for the wrap-around goal at 4:52. I tried to rim it and bad read from me, Treutle said. Hit a shin pad, and it s not the way you want to start the game. That lead grew to 2 at 5:38 on the power play when winger Rickard Rakell one-timed a pass from Perry into the open side of the net. The second period didn t get any easier. Anaheim converted its third goal on shot No. 10, a slapper from defenseman Cam Fowler that fooled Treutle as Perry skated by the crease at 1:33 on the power play. Near the midway mark of the period, the Coyotes seemed to grab some momentum after winger Anthony Duclair finished a pass from winger Max Domi for an Arizona power-play goal at 9:02. Six of Duclair s 17 goals have come against the Ducks, and he has four goals and nine points in his last eight home games. As for Domi, he has seven points in five games against the Ducks and 21 of his 43 points are against the Pacific Division. Winger Alex Tanguay, who is expected to help boost the offense, was unable to make his Coyotes debut after being acquired in a Monday trade with the Avalanche that sent winger Mikkel Boedker to Colorado. Tanguay arrived with a lower-body injury. "I thought he was ready to play tonight, but he said he wasn't ready," Tippett said. But the Ducks retook control of the game quickly. During 4-on-4 action, a redirect by defenseman Josh Manson off a Ryan Kesler pass squeaked by Treutle at 13:59. And with a minute left in the period, Perry put back a rebound off a Kevin Bieksa shot on the power play. Treutle finished with 11 saves and was replaced by Domingue for the third. Domingue stopped all five shots he faced. The whole game was disappointing, Treutle said. If you let in five goals on 16 shots, you don t have to wonder if the coach puts the other guy in. The Ducks ended up going 3-for-7 on the power play, while Duclair s goal was the Coyotes lone tally in four tries. Overall, Arizona committed 15 infractions with most coming in a feisty third period. I don t think we re skating or working hard enough, center Martin Hanzal said. I don t really know what it is. Everyone should look in the mirror and start competing because can t win a hockey game if you play like that. Simple as that. We didn t drive hard enough to the net. We didn t finish checks. We didn t compete hard enough. Reach the reporter at sarah.mclellan@arizonarepublic.com or Follow her at twitter.com/azc_mclellan. Report Key player: Ducks winger Corey Perry had a goal and two assists. Key moment: The Ducks reinstated a three-goal lead at 13:59 of the second on a redirect goal by defenseman Josh Manson to make it 4-1. Key number: 3 Ducks goals on the power play. View from the press box: The Ducks were in serious disarray early in the season, and at times it didn t look like they d figure it out. But don t underestimate the experience of this team. Anaheim is cruising and could end up atop the Pacific Division a climb that deserves serious kudos. Although the Ducks struggled early and the Coyotes shined, a team s true potential seems to show in the second half, and that s where the Ducks have asserted their strength. Arizona Republic LOADED:

Arizona Coyotes More Arizona Coyotes could join World Cup rosters Sarah McLellan, azcentral sports 7:14 p.m. MST March 3, 2016 Only two Coyotes made the initial rosters announced for the World Cup of Hockey later this year, but it s possible a few more players receive invites before teams are solidified. The first 16 (names) on just about every team are easy ones, said coach Dave Tippett, who s an assistant for Team North America. That next batch is the one where players that play well from now until the end of the season there s a lot of players being evaluated. How they play will determine who goes on there. Center Martin Hanzal (Czech Republic) and defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Sweden) were named to rosters Wednesday, continuing both of their already-decorated international careers. It s always fun to play for your country, said Hanzal, who has participated in the Winter Olympics, World Championship and World Junior Championship. It s always a big honor, and I m really glad I can be part of it. Ekman-Larsson has also played in the World Championship and World Junior Championship, and he became the second player in franchise history to win an Olympic silver medal and the first since 1988 when Sweden slotted second in World Cup hasn t been in a couple years, so it s going to be fun to be part of that, Ekman-Larsson said. It s going to be in Toronto, so I think everyone s going to be really pumped to go watch the games. This will be the first World Cup tournament since 2004, and there s already a plan between the NHL and NHL Players Association to resurrect the event in The competition will feature eight teams (Canada, Czech Republic, Team Europe, Finland, Team North America, Russia, Sweden and the United States), and action gets underway Sept.17. Anytime a player can get experience like that, it takes it to another level, Tippett said. It accentuates things. As many people as we can have involved in it, that s great for our organization. Although no Coyotes have been named to Team North America so far, the squad designated for players 23 years old and under from Canada and North America, Arizona would appear to have a few players in the mix for spots wingers Max Domi and Anthony Duclair and defenseman Connor Murphy. Winger Tobias Rieder could qualify for Team Europe. Players need to play well to be there, between Max or Duclair or Murphy or Rieder, Tippett said. There s lots of guys still hoping to get a look. Hopefully they play well and can put themselves in a position to be on one of those teams. Treutle time The Coyotes changed up their look in net against the Ducks on Thursday, giving backup Niklas Treutle his first NHL start after Louis Domingue rattled off 11 consecutive starts. When I signed with the team, I was hoping to get the chance one day, Treutle said. It took a while and finally it s here, and I m happy. Treutle joined the Coyotes last summer after previously playing in Germany. He was with the team s American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield until Anders Lindback suffered a season-ending Achilles' injury last month. Since his addition, Treutle has been regulated to mostly the practice ice. He did relieve Domingue for almost 10 minutes in a loss to the Blues Feb. 20. Baby No. 2 Winger Viktor Tikhonov and his wife, Genia, welcomed their second child a daughter named Sofia Monday. Tikhonov left the Coyotes road trip early, flying out from Pittsburgh Sunday before catching a connecting flight in Phoenix en route to San Jose where Genia gave birth. The couple also has a 3-year-old son, Lev. I talked to Tip. Obviously everyone knows he s a big family guy, so I got the green light to come and be with the family the night before the birth, Tikhonov said. It was good. Everything went really well. Everyone s super healthy. Baby s a cutie, so I couldn t really ask for more. Everything s perfect. Welcome to the world sweet Sofia Tikhonov! We can't wait to have you as part of the Pack! pic.twitter.com/22lpjccotv Yotes (@ArizonaCoyotes) March 1, 2016 By the numbers Winger Sergei Plotnikov has changed his number to 61 after debuting Monday against the Penguins wearing No. 43. Injury update Winger Alex Tanguay didn't make his debut Thursday, sitting out with a lower-body injury. He's considered day-to-day. Tanguay was acquired in a trade Monday with the Avalanche that sent winger Mikkel Boedker to Colorado. Defenseman Zbynek Michalek also missed Thursday's game and is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Arizona Republic LOADED:

Arizona Coyotes Coyotes' Niklas Treutle to make first NHL start vs. Ducks Sarah McLellan, azcentral sports 1:15 p.m. MST March 3, 2016 Stoner-Vatanen Andersen Potential scratches: Holzer and Despres. Injury update: Forwards Brandon Pirri (ankle) and Chris Stewart (fractured jaw) and defenseman Simon Despres (flu). Arizona Republic LOADED: Goalie Niklas Treutle will make his first NHL start tonight. When I signed with the team, I was hoping to get the chance one day, Treutle said. It took a while and finally it s here, and I m happy. Winger Alex Tanguay is questionable to make his Coyotes debut after getting acquired in a trade with the Avalanche Monday for winger Mikkel Boedker. He s dealing with a couple minor things, but we just want to make sure he s ready to play, coach Dave Tippett said. The Coyotes lost a season-high six games in a row, while the Ducks have not lost in regulation since Feb. 8. There s lots to play for here, lots to play for, Tippett said. We get things going and get on a run, you never know. Teams have done it in the past. You look at what Ottawa did last year. It s doable. That being said, you can t worry about the whole long thing. You have to worry about the game that s right in front of you. Fast facts for Thursday s game Winger Max Domi has 20 points against the Pacific Division most for any rookie against teams in his own division. Domi has 10 points in his last eight home games. Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson s five games with at least three points ranks second among NHL defensemen. Winger Anthony Duclair has eight points in his last seven home games. Arizona has outscored Anaheim 11-4 in the first two periods in games this season. The Ducks are in their last 18 games. They re in the second game of a back-to-back. Anaheim s 54 goals since the All-Star break are most in the NHL. The Ducks are since the Christmas break. Captain Ryan Getzlaf had 20 points in 14 games in February. Possible Coyotes lines: Rieder-Hanzal-Sekac Tanguay-Vermette-Duclair Domi-Richardson-Doan Martinook-Chipchura-Plotnikov Ekman-Larsson-Murphy Tinordi-Connauton Grossmann-Stone Treutle Potential scratches: Tikhonov, Michalek, Cunningham and Dahlbeck. Injury update: Winger Alex Tanguay and defenseman Zbynek Michalek are questionable to play. Center Boyd Gordon (upper-body injury) is week-to-week. Goalie Mike Smith (core muscle injury), goalie Anders Lindback (Achilles tendon) and center/winger Joe Vitale (fractured orbital bone) are on injured reserve. Possible Ducks lines: Perron-Getzlaf-Santorelli McGinn-Rakell-Perry Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg Ritchie-Thompson-Garbutt Fowler-Bieksa Lindholm-Manson
