Anaheim Ducks Ducks lose to Maple Leafs, 4-0, and goalie John Gibson is injured Curtis Zupke The first inkling that it was going to get ugly came when Ducks defenseman Kevin Bieksa took a retaliatory slashing penalty. It officially turned bad minutes later when Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Roman Polak boarded Mike Santorelli. That prompted Josh Manson to go after Polak and end their fight with a left hand, although Polak enraged Manson with a jab as an official broke up them up. By the time the game resumed any normalcy the Ducks were on their way to a 4-0 loss Wednesday at Honda Center that got even worse. Newly named All-Star goalie John Gibson left the game 41 seconds into the third period when Toronto's Nazem Kadri crashed into him. Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau said Gibson is day to day with a likely lower-body injury as Anaheim's five-game point streak came to an abrupt end. The Ducks never regained themselves after they outshot Toronto, 11-2, to start the game. [Pucks] didn't go in in that first period and then we kind got away from our game plan and stopped playing the way we normally do, Corey Perry said. It's all about sticking with the process and sticking with the game plan. It works, but when you get away from it, it doesn't. See the most-read stories in Sports this hour >> Perry was briefly knocked out of the game by a Kadri shoulder hit that leveled him in the second period. Perry was later slashed on the legs by Toronto goalie Jonathan Bernier and Perry let out his frustrations with two cross checks on the former Kings player. Boudreau said offensive frustration combined with some atypical rushes allowed by his defense was a good recipe for what transpired. They're good at agitating and getting under the skin, and we didn't have the composure that we needed, Boudreau said. Bernier's 39 saves backed up two early goals by Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and a goal by Kadri, who put Toronto ahead, 3-0, with a wrist shot from the left wing that beat Gibson on the stick side. Gibson appeared to have time to slide over, but it was a rare bad goal. Kings' Jonathan Quick and Drew Doughty, Ducks' John Gibson and Corey Perry are selected All-Stars Kings' Jonathan Quick and Drew Doughty, Ducks' John Gibson and Corey Perry are selected All-Stars Gibson carried a 0.75 goals-against average and.963 save percentage with two shutouts in his last three games into the game. It didn't help that Anaheim spent eight of the first 40 minutes killing penalties. Perry broke in on Bernier in the third but the puck fluttered off his stick and into Bernier's chest. The Ducks outshot the Maple Leafs, 18-8, in the first period. Bernier made a breakaway stop on Bieksa before tempers boiled over. Manson said he took exception to Polak's jab. I thought that was a little bit late and obviously the switch went off, Manson said. I wasn't happy with it. Maybe I contain myself a little bit more next time. I didn't think it was a fair play. Boudreau said Toronto Coach Mike Babcock recognized the situation at the first intermission. I'm sure Babs said something to them because they didn't play that good to be up, 1-0, Boudreau said. They came out and they hemmed us in for the first three or four minutes and they got the momentum. Once they scored that second goal, you could see the bench, the air come out of the sails. Defenseman Clayton Stoner sat out a second straight game with what Boudreau said was bumps and bruises and not a long-term issue. LA Times: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Kings' Jonathan Quick and Drew Doughty, Ducks' John Gibson and Corey Perry are selected All-Stars Lisa DillmanContact Reporter Three-on-three hockey is a lot like being under a bright spotlight unforgiving. "You can't really hide in three on three. So you're going to have to try or else everyone is going to notice," Kings defenseman Drew Doughty said on the NHL's experiment to liven up an often-tired affair with the three-on-three concept. "And three on three isn't a time where you need to get physical." Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick and Doughty, and Ducks goalie John Gibson and forward Corey Perry were selected Wednesday by the NHL Hockey Operations Department to the All-Star team for the Jan. 31 game at Nashville. Because the Kings are leading the Pacific Division, Coach Darryl Sutter was selected a coach. See the most-read stories in Sports this hour >> "Obviously, a different format," Sutter said. "Went last year because we won it. Going this year because you're leading the division. The older you get, the more it means. "The reason that we're leading the division now is because of our three-on-three play. So interesting that is the format." The Kings' record is 6-1 on three-on-three play. For Doughty, it will be his second consecutive All-Star appearance. Quick represented the Kings in 2012 in Ottawa. Perry, who will make his fourth appearance, has the most appearances of the group. For Gibson, it will be his first All-Star game. Although he has played for the Ducks in previous seasons, Gibson, 22, is technically still a rookie. "It's an honor," he said. "I didn't really expect it. It's something, any time you get named there.... I'll probably expect a lot of offense with three-on-three. But it will be fun." Said Perry of Gibson: "He has done a lot of good things for this team. He's helped us win a lot of hockey games and to be that young and to be named to the team, it's definitely an accomplishment." As with most All-Star selections, there was the fuss about those left off the team. Sutter thought Kings center Anze Kopitar should have been included and that a case could be made for right wing Tyler Toffoli, who has scored 19 goals. "I know how it works, there's only one guy from each team for the most part," Sutter said. "Drew and Quickie, I don't think that's a surprise for anybody." Curtis Zupke contributed to this report. 7 Anaheim Ducks Miller: Rookie defenseman Shea Theodore making the most of his time with the Ducks By JEFF MILLER / STAFF COLUMNIST ANAHEIM One of the benefits of the Ducks not stinking as much lately is that everyone at least for one day finally can write about something other than how much they ve been stinking lately. It s kind of difficult to offer a positive spin on any team that s in a negative spiral. And the way the first several weeks went, the Ducks entire season looked like it was swirling right down the old porcelain five-hole. So, today, let s talk Shea Theodore, one of the franchise s top prospects, a 20-year-old defenseman who debuted during the Ducks most recent trip and helped them win three of the first four games in which he played. They probably should keep me around, right? the rookie joked, fully aware of how much the team could use the injured Cam Fowler and how much more has gone into the Ducks recent mini-revival than the addition of their 2013 first-round pick. Theodore has, however, filled in admirably since Fowler s injury, showing flashes of the offensive promises and defensive improvements that have marked his professional career to date. I m kind of having fun with it right now, he said, before a certain stench returned Wednesday to Honda Center, the Ducks falling to Toronto, 4-0. I m trying to roll with it as long as I can here. Any player in a position this tenuous knows nothing is guaranteed, not even what league he ll be playing in during his next game. Theodore was promoted from and demoted to the Ducks AHL affiliate in San Diego once and then twice this season before finally appearing in his first NHL game following his third promotion. That latest call-up came while the Gulls were on the road. So, during the team s return trip from Bakersfield, the bus simply pulled over in Anaheim long enough to drop off Theodore and his gear at a nearby hotel. They pretty much just kicked me out, he said, and kept going down the freeway. Theodore s delayed debut finally came last week in Calgary, where, right from the start, he really stood out. For one stretch, it was like he was the only player on the ice, which was due largely to the fact he was the only player on the ice. Carrying on a hockey tradition as old and revered as missing front teeth, the rest of the Ducks allowed Theodore to lead the team out for pregame warm-ups and then waited in the adjacent hallway for a few awkward seconds before joining him. Theodore jumped onto the ice at Scotiabank Saddledome and had the whole sheet to himself, the Flames having not yet appeared, either. It was the oddest of odd-man rushes, a 1-on-none. He was only one finely executed Salchow away from looking like an Olympic hopeful performing a short program. I knew 100 percent what was going on, Theodore said, smiling. I was standing up near the front and Nate Thompson said, Hey, why don t you lead the guys out? I was just glad they didn t leave me out there too long. I ve seen guys skate four or five laps all by themselves. Three days later, Theodore had the opportunity to play in Vancouver, not far from his British Columbia hometown of Aldergrove, a 50-minute drive that his excited family members probably made in something closer to 40 minutes. It wasn t his first time on the ice at Rogers Arena. But it was his first appearance as something other than a prospect standing roughly 31/2 feet tall. As a pee-wee, Theodore took part in one of those quick between-periods exhibitions during a Canucks game. His youth team was part of the Timbits Program, which was started more than 30 years ago by the Tim Hortons chain, and how great is it that a company would name one of its initiatives for kids after a product commonly known as doughnut holes? Theodore and his father, Cam, a mill worker, would typically attend one Vancouver home game a year, Cam suddenly back in the big-league building Friday to watch his only boy now playing between the intermissions. No longer just a Timbit, Theodore admitted to experiencing some pretty grown-up feelings. It was emotional, he said. I remember being out there years ago. That was everything to you as a kid, that game. To be out there as an NHL player now, with my family watching, was special. See, it is much easier to write this sort of material when a team isn t huffing and puffing just to try to avoid last place, the Ducks still starting Wednesday only two points clear of Edmonton and the floor of the Western Conference. After another empty, embarrassing night against the visiting Maple Leafs, they re still just a pair of points up on rock bottom. There s more than half the regular season to go, meaning things could get better or believe it or not actually worse. But, at least for 800-plus words today, the spin, unlike so much of this spiraling season, wasn t the type to leave Ducks fans feeling queasy. Orange County Register: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Gibson leaves with injury in Ducks loss to Maple Leafs By ERIC STEPHENS / STAFF WRITER ANAHEIM Things fell apart for the Ducks against Toronto but they re hoping that their newly minted All-Star goaltender didn t come apart Wednesday night. An injured John Gibson was forced to leave the game in the third period after P.A. Parenteau scored twice and Nazem Kadri added a second-period goal as the Maple Leafs rolled to a 4-0 victory at Honda Center. Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier stopped 39 shots for his second shutout season. Toronto center Tyler Bozak also assisted on two goals. But the immediate concern for the Ducks was Gibson, who had become an All-Star for the first time. Gibson was forced to leave the game in the first minute of the third with an apparent lower-body injury after Toronto s Nazem Kadri collided with him as he charged toward the net. Frederik Andersen replaced him when it was clear that Gibson couldn t continue. Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said it is more likely that he ll know how serious the injury is when the team convenes for practice Thursday. He was going to come out anyway, Boudreau said. My thought process was we re down 3-0 at the time. He s going to come out of the game. There s no sense playing even if he s not hurt that badly. The Ducks ( ) had won four of five coming out of the Christmas break but lost in regulation for the first time since Dec. 21 and failed to move back into playoff position in the Pacific Division. Bernier was sharp right from the opening period. His 18 saves not only kept the Ducks off the scoreboard but allowed Toronto to take a lead into the first intermission. He played good, Boudreau said. We missed open nets in the first period. But he was there. When he had to make the save, he made the save. And he held the rebounds. We didn t get any second chances. When you don t get second chances, it s hard to score. Parenteau provided that when he jumped on a loose puck created by teammate Matt Hunwick having his shot blocked. The winger snapped a shot past Gibson and didn t stop there. In the second period, Parenteau went to the net to deposit a rebound left by Gibson on James van Riemsdyk s initial chance. The one-time Ducks pick in the ninth round of the 2001 draft had his second multigoal game of the season. Kadri gave the Leafs a three-goal lead when he took a pass from Leo Komarov and beat Gibson clean from the left circle on a corresponding rush after Ducks forwards Shawn Horcoff and Jakob Silfverberg failed to connect on a two-on-one rush up ice. Things didn t go in during the first period and we kind of got away from our game plan, Ducks winger Corey Perry said. We stopped playing the way we normally do or have done in the last little bit. It s all about sticking with the process and game plan. It works, but when you get away from it, it doesn t. Bernier has had much better results since a demotion to the American Hockey League that came after a horrid start to his season. He s gone since his call up from the Toronto Marlies. Meanwhile, the Ducks were shut out for the eighth time. Gibson stopped 22 of 25 shots before leaving. Leafs forward Brad Boyes managed to deflect a puck past Andersen at 2:47 of the third. GIBSON, PERRY ARE ALL-STARS The Ducks will have Perry and Gibson representing them at the NHL All-Star weekend in Nashville after being selected to the Pacific Division roster for the Jan. 31 competition as the complete rosters were announced by the league. It is Perry s fourth All-Star selection and first since The winger leads the Ducks with 14 goals and 25 points, being their most consistent source of offense in a season when they have struggled to put the puck in the net. It s exciting, Perry said. When you get the news and you hear that you re selected, it s definitely a good feeling. It s definitely an accomplishment. Gibson was not called up to the Ducks from the AHL's San Diego Gulls until Nov. 24 but has been outstanding, entering Wednesday s game with an record, a 1.63 goals-against average and.932 save percentage. The 22-year-old was named the NHL s top rookie for December after getting three of his four shutouts in the month. Gibson, who expressed some surprise at being named, is the second youngest U.S.-born goalie to be selected to the All-Star game. It s an honor, Gibson said. I didn t really expect it but it s something that any time you get named there, it s always an honor and it ll be fun to be part of. Orange County Register: LOADED:

Anaheim Ducks Ducks' Corey Perry, rookie John Gibson selected for All-Star Game By ERIC STEPHENS / STAFF WRITER "I ll probably expect a lot of offense three on three," Gibson said. "I don t know. It ll be fun. It s a couple weeks away so I still want to focus on what we got to do here and then kind of hopefully enjoy that when it comes." Orange County Register: LOADED: ANAHEIM Corey Perry and John Gibson will represent the Ducks at the NHL All-Star weekend in Nashville after being selected to the Pacific Division roster for the Jan. 31 competition. The complete rosters were announced by the league on Wednesday. It is Perry s fourth All-Star selection and first since The winger leads the Ducks with 14 goals and 25 points, being their most consistent source of offense in a season when they have struggled to put the puck in the net. "I didn t really expect it but it s something that any time you get named there, it s always an honor and it ll be fun to be part of." His teamamtes have certainly taken note of Gibson, watching him seize the No. 1 goalie job for the time being. "It s great," Perry said. "He s done a lot of good things for this team. He s helped us win a lot of hockey games. To be that young and to be named to the team, it s definitely an accomplishment. He s definitely proud of himself and we re all proud of him." The NHL is introducing a new All-Star game format in which it will be a 3-on-3 tournament played between divisions. Captains are Florida s Jaromir Jagr (Atlantic), Chicago s Patrick Kane (Central), Washington s Alex Ovechkin (Metropolitan) and Arizona s John Scott (Pacific). A total of 44 players will be involved as six forwards, three defensemen and two goaltenders will represent each division. "I m always happy when our members of our team make it," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "It s a little tougher this year. There s a lot less players to choose from it seems. When you have to pick six forwards and you get one of your guys picked, that s a pretty good honor. "As far as Gibby goes, ever since he s got up here, he s earned that. He hasn t played probably as many games as the other goalies but his numbers indicated that he deserved to be there." The Kings have two players on the Pacific team in defenseman Drew Doughty and goalie Jonathan Quick. Doughty has seven goals, 17 assists and a plus-16 rating in 39 games. Quick is second in the NHL with 22 wins and has three shutouts, a 2.12 goals-against average and a.923 save percentage. Coaches for the competition are the Kings Darryl Sutter (Pacific), Dallas s Lindy Ruff (Central), Washington s Barry Trotz (Metropolitan) and Florida s Gerard Gallant (Atlantic). The new All-Star format has evolved from the 3-on-3 five-minute overtime that is in place this season. It has encouraged more wide-open play and reduced the number of shootouts that have decided games. It could also have some players getting a little winded after going 3-on-3 for a full period and then another and one more for the winners who advance. The last team standing will split a $1 million prize. "It s going to be a long 20 minutes," Perry said. "It s going to be a long 40 minutes if you win or whatever. It s going to be fun. I think the fans have embraced it during the regular season. We ll see what happens at the All-Star game." Gibson isn't looking too far ahead at what the newest wrinkle to the All-Star competition will bring.

Anaheim Ducks Ducks goalie John Gibson a surprise pick for first NHL All-Star Game By Elliott Teaford, Daily Breeze anaheim >> John Gibson skated to his familiar position in front of the Ducks net before Wednesday s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Honda Center. Nothing new about that. Gibson made an appearance for the 16th time in 18 games since he was recalled from the minor leagues. Gibson s newly-minted status as a first-time NHL All-Star goaltender was something different, though. The 22-year-old rookie was selected Wednesday, along with Ducks right wing Corey Perry, to represent the Pacific Division at the All-Star Game on Jan. 31 in Nashville. It s an honor, Gibson said. I didn t really expect it. Few did. Gibson went into Wednesday s game with an record, a 1.63 GAA, a.932 save percentage and four shutouts since the Ducks summoned him from the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League to replace an ill Frederik Andersen on Nov. 24. Gibson s GAA was the best in the league among goalies with 14 games played or more, leading more heralded players such as fellow All-Star Jonathan Quick of the Kings, who was ninth at His save percentage was the league s fourth-best and he was tied for third in shutouts. The statistics were only part of the story. He s a young guy who s come up and played great, Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf said of Gibson, who is still considered a rookie because he didn t play 25 games last season and didn t play six games in each of the last two and still meets the NHL s criteria as a first-year player. I feel like he s a lot calmer in the net. Last year, he usually found a way to stop the puck, but sometimes it was a little bit of an adventure. But this year, he s been a lot more under control with his game and it helps keep our team calm. Earlier in the season, when everything else seemed to go haywire all at once for the Ducks, their goaltending was one aspect of the game that was reliably strong. Andersen might have won the honor rather than Gibson if not for an extended illness that sidelined him six games. Andersen is with a 2.49 GAA and a.913 save percentage, playing mostly while the Ducks were in disarray to start a season many prognosticators expected would end with a Stanley Cup championship in June. He simply didn t get the support for the Ducks to win. The Ducks remain the NHL s worst offensive team with only 72 goals before Wednesday. Gibson s promotion from San Diego coincided with a rather dramatic turnaround, however. The Ducks had won four of five games after the Christmas break and were in fourth place before facing the Maple Leafs, only three points out of second in the less-than-stellar Pacific. Clearly, there s a greater comfort level between Gibson and the Ducks. He s done a lot of good things for this team and helped us win a lot of games, said Perry, who was selected as an all-star for the fourth time in his career. To be that young and to be named to the team, it s definitely an accomplishment. We re all proud of him. When you have a goalie who just stops the puck and moves on and if he lets one in he moves on and forgets about it, that s what we needed. We needed that when we were going through our tough times. He s stepped up and really taken on that role. LA Daily News: LOADED:

Arizona Coyotes Arizona Coyotes' Martin Hanzal set to return against Flames Sarah McLellan, azcentral sports 7:40 p.m. MST January 6, 2016 In the meantime, a different order the one that describes the Pacific Division will likely remain on everyone s radar as the Coyotes aim to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. You look at the standings right now, it s super tight, Ekman-Larsson said. So we need those two points. Arizona Republic LOADED: CALGARY, Alberta While some of his teammates began to file off the practice ice Wednesday, Coyotes center Martin Hanzal posted up in a familiar spot at the top of the crease and shuffled his skates as he tried to redirect pucks into the net. I was just working on my game a little bit, trying to get the touch back, Hanzal said. It s been awhile. Eleven out of the past 12 games, to be exact, but the 6-foot-6 pivot is expected to return to the Coyotes lineup Thursday in the team s three-game road trip finale against the Flames now that his lower-body injury appears to have healed. The Coyotes assigned center Laurent Dauphin to the American Hockey League to make room on the 23-man roster for Hanzal to be activated from injured reserve. Defenseman Zbynek Michalek (upper-body injury) is questionable to play, while goalie Louis Domingue will make his fourth straight start. We ll have to monitor his minutes a little bit, but he s had almost seven or eight days here of real good, hard skating, coach Dave Tippett said. Hopefully, he can jump back in and not miss a beat. We miss that big centerman in there that controls the play. After missing four games at the beginning of December with the ailment, Hanzal played more than 15 minutes in a 1-0 win over the Islanders Dec.19 before being sidelined again. I finished the game. I felt pretty good, Hanzal said. But the next day it just came back. I don t know. I was out for almost three weeks. It was really surprising. It is what it is. I m just glad I m healthy right now. The Coyotes are clearly a more dangerous team with Hanzal in the mix, but his recent absence didn t derail them. Actually, after that win against New York, Arizona went without Hanzal and has taken possession of the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division with 42 points a two-point lead over Calgary. And yet the team is poised to have only one representative at the NHL All-Star Game later this month in Nashville. Winger John Scott was voted by the fans to be the Pacific Division captain, but none of his teammates were named to the remaining roster Wednesday decided by the NHL s Hockey Operations Department. Each team is required to have only one player participate in the festivities, which will start Jan.30 with the skills competition before the 3-on-3, three-game tournament Jan. 31. I thought one more person could have gotten in, so that s kind of disappointing more so from my part because that means I took someone s spot, Scott said. Asked if he was surprised no one else was invited, Tippett said: I ll leave that alone. It is what it is, before mentioning defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and wingers Mikkel Boedker and Max Domi as players worthy of consideration. But I think the way it s set up like that, that s just the way it was going to be, Tippett continued. Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby and Jets winger Blake Wheeler, who is among the league s leading point-getters, were other players not named to an initial roster. The Red Wings Dylan Larkin and Ducks goalie John Gibson were the only rookies included. Substitutions are a possibility if injuries pop up. We kind of knew if Scotty was going nobody else was, but I m happy for Scotty, said Ekman-Larsson, who was an All-Star last season. Obviously, he got a lot of votes. It s good for me. I get a couple days off, so I don t mind. While rest is certainly a benefit to not partaking in the event, there is an incentive for those involved as a $1 million prize will be divvied up among winning team members. Scott has yet to learn what will be expected of him in the skills competition and what type of role he ll have in the 3-on-3 action. I m sure I ll find out soon enough, he said. Now that the teams have been announced we can start figuring out orders and positions.

Arizona Coyotes Coyotes' Doan hilariously 'defends' Scott's All-Star honor By Bill Bernardi Jan 5, 2016 at 4:32p ET Arizona Coyotes veteran forward Shane Doan came to the defense of teammate John Scott in the wake of the latter's unlikely selection as a captain for the upcoming NHL All-Star Game. An enforcer on a club that has placed him on waivers three times this season, Scott benefited from a fan campaign that landed him the honor of being named the captain for the Pacific Division's All-Star team. While the 33-year-old journeyman's inclusion has been met with a few raised eyebrows, Doan offered nothing but praise - and a few chuckles - while discussing Scott to TSN1040 recently. Via TSN's BarDown: "He's an All-Star, man. He's the captain of the All-Star team. It's not too often that you get to have the captain of the All-Star team on your team, so that's pretty special." Scott has notched one assist and 25 penalty minutes in 11 games this season. The 6-foot-8, 260-pounder has scored five goals, set up six others and amassed 542 penalty minutes in 285 career contests with six different teams. Scott joins Florida Panthers veteran forward Jaromir Jagr, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane as captains for the 2016 All-Star Game, which will be held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Jan. 31. The contest will have players representing the four divisions competing in three 20-minute contests in a tournament. A semifinal round will then give way to the championship. foxsportsarizona.com LOADED:

Boston Bruins No news on McQuaid injury gets made from there. If the Bruins do recall Pastrnak, they ll have to free up a roster spot. Frank Vatrano could be sent down. Boston Globe LOADED: By Shira Springer Globe Staff January 06, 2016 WILMINGTON Defenseman Adam McQuaid was not at practice on Wednesday, and there was no update on his condition. Coach Claude Julien didn t know whether McQuaid would make the upcoming trip. McQuaid was injured Tuesday night when he took a hit in the back from Washington s Zach Sill and went face-first into the Garden glass. The incident occurred with 15:16 remaining in the second period. McQuaid left the game and did not return, and no penalty was called. On Wednesday, Sill was suspended two games without pay after a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety. The suspension will cost Still $6,183. He will sit out road games against the Islanders on Thursday night and Rangers on Saturday. Julien was uncharacteristically expansive when discussing who was at fault. A hit from behind is a hit from behind, said Julien. We ve been guilty of that and we ve had to suffer the consequences. So, you live with it. I keep telling everybody that all the emphasis is on the people hitting. And players have to be better at protecting themselves. I m not saying that about Adam McQuaid. I m talking about a number of hits that are happening nowadays. Guys see somebody come and hit em, they turn their backs. I think that starts in minor hockey or whenever with those stop signs. It helps the people hitting, but it doesn t help the people getting hit. Somewhere along the way, I think we really have to start educating both sides of that. You need to learn to protect yourself and you can t hit from behind. Trading places Please Go Away Often. Years ago, that message was posted outside a Harvard Square travel agency. These days, it would be understandable if Bruins fans adopted a similar slogan. They have fared much better on the road (11-3-2) than at TD Garden (9-11-2) this season. The good news: The Bruins start a five-game, eight-day road trip on Friday, taking a tour of the Eastern Conference. After losing five of their last six games, they hope the road offers an opportunity to reverse course. When asked after Wednesday s practice why the Bruins have been so good on the road, defenseman Kevan Miller said, I couldn t tell you. We re trying to keep things simple. I think that might be one of the biggest things. On the road, we seem to find our simple game. We re trying to do that at home. And we just haven t quite got there yet. It s definitely a huge road trip for us and we have to have urgency every game. Teammate Ryan Spooner also had no explanation why the Bruins have been better on the road than at home. And while he welcomed the trip as an opportunity to climb back up the standings, he knows road wins won t be a cure-all. It s going to be nice to get away for a little bit, but it doesn t change the fact that we have to be a lot better at home, said Spooner. It s something we re trying to fix right now. We re going to try to win all of them [on the trip], but if we can win four or something like that, I think we ll put ourselves in a good spot. Bergeron an All-Star Patrice Bergeron was named to his second All-Star team Wednesday, the lone Bruins representative among the 44 players named to rosters for the NHL s new three-on-three tournament Jan Bergeron and Zdeno Chara did not practice, getting some well-deserved rest. Those guys are playing big minutes there, so a little maintenance for them, said Julien... When asked if the Bruins will recall David Pastrnak for the road trip, Julien didn t know the answer. I have no idea, he said. Our upper management is now busy and I haven t talked to them today. We ll see where that goes. We still have two more days before our game so we ll see how the decision
