2 What is CARHA Hockey? CARHA Hockey is a Non-Profit, National Hockey Association. Dedicated to servicing the needs of Adult Recreational and Old-Timers hockey groups. We provide personal and knowledgeable hockey services to league, team, referee and tournament organizers across Canada and around the world. Our overall goal is to continually provide innovative programs and helpful services that strengthen and grow Canada s favourite sport!
3 Who does CARHA Hockey Service? All non-contact, hockey players and organizers, 19 years of age and older, who belong to adult recreational hockey groups in Canada. This includes: Team based Leagues Draft Leagues Individual Teams Pick up and Shinny hockey groups Women s Leagues and teams Tournament or Travel Teams Referee Associations and Individual Referees National and Affiliated tournament organizers Municipality Program

5 General Liability Insurance What is it and Why do I need it? It is a form of insurance designed to protect you in the event that a lawsuit is brought against you or the league. The law places a very high duty of care on those who provide a service to the public. As a League Convenor, your role automatically carries a higher level of liable risk than anyone else involved in the league. You are responsible for maintaining a standard of care while operating the league. If someone gets injured or property gets damaged, you can be held personally liable for negligence based solely on your position. As previously mentioned, these forms of negligence can include bodily injury, property damage, or death as a result of the game of hockey. These exposures can sometimes result in excessive lawsuits and large scale settlements to the injured party. When your league becomes a member of CARHA Hockey, we provide you with General Liability Coverage in the sum of $10 million dollars per incident that will pay out on these costs should you find yourself being sued. This coverage also includes Directors & Officers and Errors & Omissions coverage. These are two subsequent forms of coverage often needed by a league organizer or executive members. The other main reason you would need liability coverage is to satisfy any facility or municipal requirements to carry a certain level of liability protection in order to sign ice rental agreements. This is so that the facility/municiplaity won t be held responsible for injuries or property damage while your group uses the ice. Whatever your involvement with the league, CARHA Hockey has you covered!
