2 Welcome to the 6th annual Bar J Bull sale. This year we are excited to offer another set of bulls deep in quality with the genetics to make them consistent and predictable. Our bulls are bred to perform and have proven themselves in the progeny they sire, both in the commercial and purebred industries. We strive to breed functional cattle that are thick and efficient with superior carcass traits. Our cow herd is powerful and fertile and our bulls combine the best performance and calving ease genetics you will find anywhere in any breed. The feedlots are asking for more Charolais cross calves and continue to pay premiums for them. It has been this way for decades. The buyers tell me that the good orders they get always have restrictions on certain breeds or types but the one constant is that they all want good Charolais cross calves. At Bar J, we strive to give you as much information as possible to help you make the right choice in selecting your bull. You can see all the performance info, frame scores, EPD s, ultrasound data and breeding soundness reports to give more credibility to our bulls. At Bar J we do not trim feet so what you see is what you get and we feed no barley so you can feel comfortable that our performance is bred in and not fed on. This year we are pleased to have Wilcox Simmentals as guest consignors. We are the first to recognize that the Simmental breed has had a huge positive impact on the industry and many of our bull customers utilize Simmental in their crossbreeding programs. I have known the Wilcox family for many years and have great respect for them as people of extremely high integrity and as breeders of some of the finest Simmental cattle you will find. The set of yearlings they are offering is fantastic. These are the right kind of performance cattle with strong maternal traits. We are in this to stay and we want the bulls we sell to fit your program. Please feel free to talk to us if we can help you in any way with your bull selection. Clint Robertson The first time that the Robertson s invited us to ultrasound, we were very impressed with the muscling in their cattle. The muscle sizes were some of the largest of any yearling bulls that I had ever done. Over the years they have been able to find new sires to compliment the genetics that they have been able to put together. When I think of what Charolais cattle are supposed to be like, the Robertson s herd would fit right into that mold. Rod Wendorff, Raymond, AB Windy Ridge Ultrasound Rod Wendorff owns and operates Windy Ridge Ultrasound and is the most experienced Ultrasound technician in the country. Rod has scanned more cattle than anyone else in Canada and has an incredible knowledge in his profession, having scanned in excess of 100,000 head in both the feedlot and seedstock industries. There are sons of both Silverado and Rayder that are outstanding and would do an excellent job of heading up your breeding program Purebred or Commercial. The Predictable Wind sons are moderate framed and easy fleshing with excellent performance. It is a real pleasure to have Wilcox Simmentals in as Guest Consignors this year. They are bringing a tremendous set of high performing, red and black Simmental bulls to the sale. Crossbreeding is a must in the commercial cattle industry. Hybrid vigor is the only thing that comes for free in the cattle business increased fertility, vigor, milk and performance will be achieved through crossbreeding. Both the Simmental and Charolais breeds excel in producing high performing cattle for today s competitive beef industry. 4 Never before have growth genetics and highly profitable carcass traits been so important to our industry. Never before have efficient, high gaining, early maturing cattle been so critical to our future. It all comes down to what we have been selecting for all these years. That is what we are offering you. To be profitable, a second rate bull just will not cut it any more. Our entire focus has been on the commercial industry and breeding the ultimate terminal cross sire. Take advantage of what we have done and let our cattle work for you. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association or the Canadian Simmental Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made. BREEDER S GUARANTEE, BULLS: Should any bull (14) fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within (6) six months following the date of purchase or (6) six months after the bull has reached (14) fourteen months of age. The seller will then have the right and privilege of (6)six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness not apparent at sale time. EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. SETTLEMENT: Transportation charges on animals returned to the seller are for account of the purchaser. No incidental expenses such as feed, care, A.I., signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to so prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of a replacement animal, the Sale Management will appoint a mediator. ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or other wise, in the event of accident or loss of property. D BAR L LIVESTOCK IS AGENT ONLY: D Bar L Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations, or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, express or implied. Neither does D Bar L Livestock assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties. D Bar L Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken, must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations. MAIL OR TELEPHONE BIDS: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction, which is not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
15 The Herdbulls... FFBB RAYDER PLD 5108R After a long intense search for a bull that would compliment our breeding program, 5108R was a great find. Not only does he have outstanding conformation, easy doing ability and superior performance to meet our standards, but he presents himself with class and that ultimately is what makes him a great herdbull. BW 3.9 WW 53 YW 118 MILK 31.2 TM 58 CE 40 BAR J SILVERADO 14S High selling yearling bull in Canada in What more can we say about this young sire. He is establishing himself as a great breeding bull that is having a huge impact on the industry. His sons are showing up as lead off bulls across the country. He has proven himself by combining calving ease with performace and puts great dispositions in his progeny. His sons and daughters at Bar J are truly impressive. He puts tremendous thickness and performance in his progeny and still he has proven to be a bull we can use on our heifers. Everyone is talking about the Silverados.
