As I am writing this, we are approaching the 4th of July holiday where we get to take a moment and give thanks to our forefathers who sacrificed so much so that future generations can enjoy the freedoms we have. One of our freedoms we get to enjoy is our 2nd Amendment, without which we would not have our great sport of Cowboy Fast Draw. Cowboy Fast Draw embodies the spirit of keeping our history alive. Something we should all be proud of. We are currently in the thick of competition season with the Nationals concluding a few weeks ago. This issue contains 4 great shoot articles from recent titled events. Thank Editorial you so much to those who submitted articles and photos so quickly after your events. 4 Page 4 June/July 2017 Gunslinger s Gazette Inside The CFDA By: Quick Cal, Executive Director We ve just returned from our 2017 National Championship, which was held in Deadwood, SD. I would like to thank the North Plains Magnificent 7, our group of seven CFDA Affiliated Clubs who worked together to host this landmark event! Also many thanks to the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce and The First Gold Hotel & Casino for all of the support for bringing back our National Championship to Deadwood, where it all began, for our 15th Anniversary of CFDA! Over 200 competitors entered the competition, 191 actually competed. This set a new attendance record for a CFDA National Championship. We re hoping to break the 200 shooter barrier this coming year wherever the Nationals may be in Bids will close this year on September 15 th, we will announce the winning bid and present the National Championship Revolving Trophy at the FGA this October. Deadwood is a special place for our sport, since CFDA was founded there in 2002 by Brad Hemmah a.k.a. Kemosabe CFDA #1, who was there to greet our members this year, and actually competed in the championship. I was amazed at how well Kemosabe shot after such a long layoff from Cowboy Fast Draw, he did great! He had a wonderful time meeting all of our members and is very enthused about future competitions, he is planning on competing at the FGA this October. I would like to congratulate our winners and high placing shooters in one or more of the competitive opportunities that our hosts provided in Deadwood. From the Category Championship on Thursday, the Main Match, Second Chance Match or our Bracket Matches, there was plenty of shooting to go around for everyone. Congratulations to Brenda Brazauskas a.k.a. Slowpoke, CFDA #L2361 (VA) for holding on in the finals to win her first National Championship title against our only ladies to have both won three CFDA National Championships, Lefty Lipscomb, CFDA #L931 (2013, 2014, and 2015) and Alotta Lead, CFDA #L37 (2007, 2009, and 2010). On the Men s side, John Koller a.k.a. Johnny Three Toes, CFDA #3472, reminded us all of the meaning of Wyatt Earp s most famous quote, Fast is fine, but accuracy is final. Johnny Three Toes sailed through the Magnificent 7 Shootoffs and some of the best of the best Cowboy Fast Draw shooters in the nation, while hitting a high percentage of shots in the 50s! It was amazing to witness, as he won bout after bout and also won over the crowd as they cheered him onto victory! Just goes to prove that ANTHING CAN HAPPEN IN CFDA! This is truly a place where dreams can come true... CFDA Basic Scoring Program The CFDA Basic Scoring Program (Version 16.5) is working very well, but it does require some training and practice to master it. Like any computer program, it will only produce the desired results when set up and used correctly. We have discovered that more training and establishment of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are needed to successfully score the wide range of formats that we run in today s sport, such as, category matches, bracket matches, and main matches that can range from a local club event, all of the way up to a 100, 200, or even 300+ shooter major event. In other words, just like our very successful Range Operations Programs, it s time that we all get on the same page and standardize our methods and procedures so that we can all work together and help one another score at our major tournaments. When there is silence at a match, at a time when the sound of gunfire should be heard, it adds tension to our entire team of match and CFDA officials. Over several years I ve witnessed this at numerous tournaments across our nation, including FGA, so I m not directing these statements at any one event. Rather, I hold myself responsible for not implementing a better training program before now. I have tried, in the form of producing two 45-minute training videos that can be found on the CFDA Website, as well as an 8-page manual. But, these assets clearly fall short. I m currently working on developing a CFDA Scoring Program Class Basic Level 1 and Advanced Level 2. I ve taught the initial one to our home club, the Great Basin Gun Hawks just a few weeks ago. I m really proud that 11 of our members showed up for the Friday night class and brought their own lap top computers. Scoring with our computer program is actually fun, when you know how to do it! The 2-Hour Class concentrated on first learning how to update your version online with the link on the CFDA Telegraph, then we learned how to properly set up a variety of main matches and methods for registering shooters. Then, how to make reports, conduct role calls, make back-ups, draw rounds, enter scores, balance ranges, and produce match results. There are a lot of cross check methods available that will keep any size match running smooth. Our Advanced Class will focus on setting up and running side matches, like category and bracket matches and how to avoid the pitfalls of running multiple ranges and categories. Our FGA Scoring Team, Wild Shot, CFDA #L162 and Ubet, CFDA L2366, and I are preparing SOPs for this year s FGA, that we plan on sharing with all CFDA Affiliated Clubs, once we have it vetted and completed. It s obvious that we need a formalized program with a team of Instructors who can teach and certify Official CFDA Computer Scorekeepers. It s also possible to conduct these classes online using services like Go to Meeting, where attendees can view the instructor s screen as they teach the class. We hope to create these classes over the off-season, so that CFDA Certified Program Score Keepers can score matches with confidence for our 2018 Season! If you re interested in participating, please watch for announcements on the CFDA Telegraph and Cowboy Fast Draw Society, this Fall. CFDA Ammunition CFDA ammunition whether it s Cowboy Fast Draw Cartridges or Shotgun Primer Loads is an extremely important aspect of conducting any CFDA Titled Championship. Our CFDA members expect host supplied ammunition that works in their guns when they invest the time and money to attend our major events. 8 years ago we began to establish standards for loading CFD Cartridges that really helped hosts provide more consistent ammunition than what we had experienced before our loading data and procedures were published. But, recently we are seeing more CFDA Titled Championships, either being held indoors or in non-spectator venues where exemptions can be applied, whereas shotgun primers are being used more frequently. We are now entering into a new phase where standards must also be applied for the use of shotguns primers in CFDA Titled Championships as well. There are four main factors. First- Safety, the 750 fps rule must be adhered to, even while using shotgun primers. Why now? There are wax bullets currently being produced that are lighter than past standards, which causes velocities to exceed 750 fps, while just being propelled by shotguns primers. Second- Safety, higher velocities are harder on the netting we use and if a wax bullets escapes the confines of a shooting area they will travel further. Third- Competitive / Administration, with lighter bullets, travel times can be reduced by over one hundredth of a second, which can impact our official World Records, which are also used to determine anticipation. Forth- Reliability, CFDA has received numerous complaints regarding non-commercially produced shotgun primer brass that are drilled beyond tolerances where shooters have experienced a high number of misfires. This issue will be discussed at the 2017 U.S. Marshal s Muster at FGA. History of CFDA As many of you know, I m an avid student of our game s history not only for CFDA, but for the general sport of Fast Draw dating back to the 1950 s. Most of the general sport s history has been lost or drifted away in the memories of those who came before us. I ve been very dedicated to preserving CFDA s history in a few ways. Much of it can be found on our CFDA Website, within such sections available on our left menu such as our, Hall of Champions, Hall of Recognition, Founder s Club, and History of Fast Draw and CFDA. But, I ve been doing something much more than that and behind the scenes, for over a decade. Since we began publishing the Gunslinger s Gazette in 2007, I have been keeping boxes and boxes of back issues, much to the amazement and amusement of my family, especially when they had to be moved a few times. They just could not believe why I would keep stacks and stacks of boxes of back issues, and they have been making fun of me for years. You see, I believed that future members of CFDA would like to collect back issues of our Gunslinger s Gazettes so that they could read some of the old articles, match results, and see how our sport had developed over the years. Maybe I am crazy! With the help of Sheriff Rango, who needed some summer work, we ve been organizing and bundling sets of back issues into envelopes for each year from 2007 through We have a very limited number of complete sets available, for To start with, we have bundled about 50 sets for years If there is a demand we can produce somewhere between 200 to 300 complete sets per year, depending on the year, but once they re gone, they ll be gone forever. So, if you re inclined to learn more about the history of CFDA, or perhaps you ve been a long-time member who didn t collect our back issues, but would like to revisit happy memories, you will soon be able to find them at our CFDA General Store. Besides, you might just help convince Alotta Lead, Dead Eye Kid, Hannah Calder, and also myself, that I haven t been living in Fantasy Land all of these years. Next issue, August-September, we ll have the complete 4-Page Centerfold for Fastest Gun Alive, that will have the complete Schedule of Events and all other information that you will need! I Hope to see you all in Fallon, NV for our 15 th Anniversary of CFDA! Hit em Fast, (It s no coincidence that Hit em comes before Fast ) NOTICE! Listen up all pards! 5 Gunslinger s Gazette June/July 2017 Page 5 Membership News and Announcements By: Alotta Lead, CFDA Membership Director Welcome to Summer! The heat is on, as competition heats up at all of our CFDA matches around our nation and a few others, like recently Switzerland and now France is coming on board! We Americans sometimes take for granted that we live in a country, where we are free to enjoy our firearms. Not only for self-protection, but we are free to take part in shooting sports, hunting, or just plinking out at the local gun range. We need to remind everyone that our 2nd Amendment is a constitutional right, that we constantly must defend, and that we can never take our freedom for granted. The National Rifle Association (NRA) constantly fights that battle on our behalf, and we urge everyone to join it and keep your membership active. Quick Cal and I have been Life Members of the NRA for many years, and are proud that CFDA is affiliated with the NRA.. Please support CFDA by keeping your dues current. Sometimes, some of our members let their dues expire, because things come up in their lives and they go through periods where they cannot compete. But, we wish you would keep your membership active. It helps support CFDA, which promotes shooting sports, the spirit of the American Old West, and keeps the Cowboy Way alive. We are also proud of the CFDA Family that is so generous and fun to be around. We stand for something way beyond competition. Our CFDA Shoot for the Stars, has provided over $50,000 in scholarships for our young members. But, if life does get in the way and you let you membership expire, we are always glad to get our members back and pick up right where we left off. You can find your annual renewal date on the mailing label of your Gunslinger s Gazettes, plus we do send out CFDA renewal notices each month. Please use it to send in your membership renewal dues. Allow our office 2 to 3 weeks to receive your new CFDA card back in the mail. ALIAS Quick Cal and I travel to some pretty great places, enjoying our wonderful CFDA family & friendly competitions. Places we may never have had the opportunity to travel to if it wasn t for a CFDA Championship in that area. We hear many of our members say the same thing. I have noticed that when announcers call shooters to the line for a round, that sometimes full alias of some of the shooters aren t being used... doesn t happen too often but enough to make it noticeable. I remember so many of your aliases, since I work with them almost every day doing membership processing here at CFDA Headquarters. Our alias list is huge with many aliases having either the same prefix or suffix, sometimes announcers try and shorten it. Sometimes members also use shortened aliases when signing up for matches. This can lead to problems for scorekeepers, and can cause confusion when more than one shooter has a similar alias at the same contest when being announced over the PA system. This can also cause an issue at titled championships at CFDA Headquarters, since points are earned at these matches. We get calls from shooters all of the time because they have points under multiple or shortened names. If by any chance you would like to shorten or change your alias, please give us a call here at the CFDA headquarters, we d be more than happy to change it for you. WESTERN CLOTHING AT ALL CFDA EVENTS Traveling around the country to CFDA matches, seeing the CFDA pride in the westernthemed costuming has been a pleasure. Shooters have gone above and beyond in their style of CFDA clothing. Whether it s the traditional western clothing, B-Western, late 1800s look, or the cool look of Steam Punk it s truly made QC and I so proud of the great sport we all enjoy! And how much fun is it to see and look at!! Even the spectators are getting such a kick out of what we do, we have had some folks join up with CFDA on the spot, because they love our costuming and what we stand for. Seeing all the different styles is so much of the fun for all! (Hey Slowpoke! Hope you bring your super cool Steam Punk Outfit from Deadwood to the FGA! It was so amazing!!) Please remember...when at a CFDA Event, whether it s competing, an awards ceremony, our Life Member Dinner Reception, or even just keeping score at a range table, please dress in our western-theme. It s just the spirit of the Romance and Legend of the Old West that we re all about. Join in the fun, and you ll feel more part of what s going on. Remember also for awards, please do not change from your western-themed clothing if you plan to have your photo taken. Whether these photos are meant to appear in the Gunslinger s Gazette, Facebook Pages, or in the local or national media, you may not qualify to be in those photos if you are not dressed according to our rules. Please read them on Page 6 in the CFDA 9 th Edition of our Rules & Handbook, and please don t put your fellow members into the uncomfortable position to ask you to dress appropriately. Throughout the weekend at FGA, there s going to be TV cameras popping in and out, and we re also working at filming this event again for national television, let s show the country what we re all about and show off our CFDA Pride! IN CLOSING-THANK YOU How about the front cover of the Gunslinger s Gazette! Be kind, and cherish them, they give us unconditional love and companionship. They re with us for such a short time on this earth, and we miss them terribly when they re no longer here. Till next time, see you all at the Fastest Gun Alive World Championship-Remember ~ Ride for the Brand Alotta Lead

6 Page 6 June/July 2017 Gunslinger s Gazette 2017 Louisiana State Championship Laissez Les Gunfight Rouler By Major D Natchitoches, LA - It all came together during the third weekend of April in Natchitoches, LA. The city of Natchitoches met Cowboy Fast Draw. Eighty shooters from eight states visited the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase when we met in the city park to conduct the very first Louisiana State Championship of Cowboy Fast Draw. It s impossible to conduct a state shoot without good help. A host of talent came together to make this possible. I d like to thank Wench, who drove all the way from Colorado to be our score-keeper. The Shootist and Marshal s Daughter brought a range from Richmond, TX. Gentleman George and Texas Rose brought a range, but just as importantly, provided the broad experience and deep knowledge of the game that proved invaluable during the planning and execution phases of the competition. Rangemasters from several clubs provided the help we needed on the line, as did announcers and score keepers from everywhere. These volunteers are the backbone of the game and we couldn t have done it without everyone. Many thanks to Quick Cal and Alotta Lead for making the trek. Whiplash was the Men s Champion, while Plain Jane took the Women s honors. Dash was our Billy The Kid champion, and Texas Diamond took the Annie Oakley trophy. Congratulations to all of them, and did you notice that all four of our champions came from the Big Thicket Bushwackers? That s a tough club from Silsbee, TX, and a friendly bunch of folks. But watch out if they come to compete, they ll take your trophies home with them. Big Mark provided a legion of other trophies, too many to list here, but there were plenty of awards. The weather cooperated, providing the entire range of Louisiana weather. There were raffles and a target match. The cost was $5 for 5 shots to raise money for the charity. You had a choice of Poker or Double Tap. Slow Poke said the charity raised a total of about $1600. Great job Slow Poke. Thank you to everyone who helped support the charities. Congratulations to Bob Ed Pain who won both the Florida State and Eastern Territorial Men s Matches! Fantastic job! Thank you to all the people who came out to the 2017 Florida State and Eastern Territorial Championship matches. It was a fantastic week of events. 12 Page 12 June/July 2017 Gunslinger s Gazette 2017 TEXAS STATE COWBOY ROUNDUP CHAMPIONSHIP Silsbee, TX - Lucky 45 called to say that on Google Earth it looked like there wasn t even a road to Camp Waluta where the 2017 Texas State Match was to be held. Well, the road is kinda hard to find in the Big Thicket woods. But I assured him that there was one, because Gentleman George and I have to get home every day. Silsbee, Tx. is not exactly a tourist destination, so once you are here, you might as well stick around and enjoy the events that were planned. We had some fun matches on Thursday for those early arrivals. Whiplash won the Stalker (walk & shoot), Lucky 45 won the Night Shoot, Rebel Yell won the Pop, Pop, Pop (balloon shoot), and The Shootist won the Flash Fire (4 size targets at different distances). A few shooters stayed in the bunk houses at the camp, along with a couple of RVs, while others opted for hotels. We met for breakfast in the Dining Hall and had our lunches at the Saloon down at the Range. There was a Welcome spaghetti Dinner on Thursday. Friday and Saturday evening meals were catered by Mama Jacks. Yum. After dinner on Saturday we played Bingo for a 1 in 5 chance to win a gun yea, it went to California with Huckleberry Honey. Thanks to everyone who came all the way down to the I-10 corridor to shoot with us at the Big Thicket Bushwackers headquarters. We saw quite a few new shooters from the clubs in our Southern Territory who don t normally get a chance to travel. That was the idea. And, we hope that they got an enhanced experience with CFDA friends that sparks the desire to get outside of their comfort zone, and travel to even more events in the future. See y all on the line. 18 Page 18 June/July 2017 Gunslinger s Gazette Taming Dodge City Hamilton B. Bell: Grand Old Man of the South West Hamilton B. Bell, or Ham as he was known by, helped tame one of the wildest places in the Old West, Dodge City, KS. Dodge City began its infamous step towards history innocently enough. In 1865, the Indian Wars began heating up and Fort Dodge was built to help provide protection along the Santa Fe Trail. In 1871 a rancher built a sod house about 5 miles west of Fort Dodge. The area was ripe with buffalo herds making it the ideal location for a stopping place for buffalo hunters and traders. This location along the Santa Fe Trail quickly gained attention and soon wagon trains and traders came from all over creating constant activity. Not surprisingly, the first business built in this newly forming town was a saloon. In 1872, a group began the planning and development of this new town. At first they named it Buffalo City, but after finding out there was already a town by that name they decided on Dodge City. In the early years, buffalo hides were still in high demand and with the abundance of buffalo in the area, Dodge City became known as the buffalo capital of the West with over 1 million hides reportedly being shipped out of Dodge City. Buffalo hides could be seen piled on the sides of the roads. Buffalo traders, hunters, soldiers, and railway workers flocked to Dodge City s saloons and the lawlessness of Dodge City began. There was initially no law enforcement which began to attract even more unsavory individuals. Many gunfighters died with their boots on in turn creating the necessity of the famous Boot Hill Cemetery. After buffalo herds were decimated as a way to end the Indian War, hundreds of buffalo hunters were now out of business. As a new means of revenue, cattle became king. Cattle drives became a constant over the next decade with over 5 million head of cattle going through Dodge City. Dodge City was once again booming. But the townspeople soon found out that the cowboys were an even rowdier crowd than the buffalo traders. By the late 1870 s, Dodge City s reputation spread across the nation and soon garnered attention as a wicked little town. Overrun with lawlessness, the Mayor, unbeknownst to him, formed one of the most infamous groups of lawmen during that period. The group included the newly appointed Chief Deputy Marshal, Wyatt Earp, and four assistant deputies, Bat Masterson, Charlie Basset, Bill Tilghman, and Neil Brown. These men also made up part of the famed Dodge City Peace Commission in one of the most famous pictures of the Old West. Though Wyatt Earp and a few of his counterparts became more well known lawman who helped restore law and order to Dodge City, there was another man who also played a large part in the history of Dodge City, Ham Bell. Ham Bell arrived in Dodge City in 1874, during the height of activity. At 19 years old, Ham quickly found work hauling railroad ties. A businessman at heart, Ham eventually built a saloon where he introduced the Can-Can dance in He also built the largest livery stable in Dodge City, a furniture store, and a mortuary business. During his time as a business owner he crossed paths Dodge City Peace Commission with many of the most famous lawman and gunfighters of the Old West. In 1879, Wyatt Earp left Dodge City and made his way to Tombstone, AZ. Bat Masterson soon moved on in With a vacancy to fill, Ham Bell was appointed a Deputy U.S. Marshal in 1880 and ended up serving 12 years. After the Santa Fe Railroad reached Santa Fe in 1880, the cattle drives along the Santa Fe Trail all but ceased. Within a few years the loss of cattle drives and the money the travelers brought, turned Dodge City into a sleepy little town and effectively ended its reign as the most lawless town in the West. 20 Page 20 June/July 2017 Gunslinger s Gazette SILVER SCREEN LEGEND XX DEDICATED TO HUGH O BRIAN AS TELEVISION S WYATT EARP AND NED BUNTLINE by Joel Dortch, Executive Director Edward Zane Carroll Judson, better known by his pen name, Ned Buntline, was a writer, publisher and promoter of Dime Novels in the 1800 s. He is credited with designing the Colt Buntline Special, a firearm that Stuart Lake described in his 1931 biography, Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal. According to Lake, Buntline commissioned the production of five Buntline Specials. Lake described them as.45 caliber Colt Single Action Army Revolvers with extra-long 12 inch barrels. Lake wrote that Buntline presented these special guns to five lawmen in thanks for their help in contributing to the local color of his western stories. Even though numerous films and TV shows have been based on Lake s book, including the first so-called adult western television series, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp starring Hugh O Brian in the title role, research has shown that Lake s book was largely fictionalized and there is no record at the Colt factory of an order from Ned Buntline. However, in the popular TV series, O Brian frequently carried and used a Buntline Special, contributing to the myth and interest in the gun. Silver Screen Legend XX this year is dedicated to Hugh O Brian as television s Wyatt Earp and Ned Buntline. Included is a pair of exquisite Colt Single Action Army Revolvers in.45 Colt caliber. One is an engraved Buntline Special with a 12 barrel and the consecutive serial numbered mate is also engraved in the same pattern with a 5 ½ barrel. Both are in a durable and handsome bright nickel finish. Buntlines are rare and almost never engraved and almost never in a nickel finish. To have a 5 ½ mate with a consecutive serial number makes this pair of extraordinary firearms among the most rare! The Hollywood style double Buscadero belt and holster rig is masterfully crafted with sterling silver engraved buckles in the style of Hugh O Brian as Wyatt Earp. This is truly a museum quality cowboy collectible that anyone would be proud to own and display. The Happy Trails Children s Foundation is pleased to honor legendary lawman Wyatt Earp as depicted by actor Hugh O Brian with this outstanding tribute. This is the 20th year the foundation, through the generosity of the renowned Colt s Manufacturing Co. LLC of Hartford, CT, has used very special guns and holsters to raise money for abused children. Jim Lockwood of Legends in Leather crafted the handsome double holster rig. The magnificent engraving on the guns and the silver buckles on the belt and holsters were provided by Conrad Anderson, Rocktree Ranch. Ron Love made and donated the prop cartridges. All of these wonderful people and companies are enduring examples of that very special American Spirit known as the cowboy way. As a result of our association with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and the positive and wholesome family values and American Patriotic Traditions they represented, the Happy Trails Children s Foundation is the only known children s charity in the country today that actively supports shooting sports, Second Amendment Rights and responsible gun ownership. In turn, the foundation is supported by generous contributions from shooters, collectors, organized shooting sports, the media and firearms industry. We are proud of this unique partnership! Order your tickets today for this beautiful and unique museum quality one-of-a-kind cowboy collectible. Tickets are $10 each U.S. or 11 tickets for $100. 26 Page 26 June/July 2017 Gunslinger s Gazette Gunslinger Cowboy Fast Draw Timer (Payment Plan) Are You Looking For a Cowboy Fast Draw Six-Gun? Many of our members have access to great choices of six-guns and competent gunsmiths that understand actions jobs suitable for Cowboy Fast Draw in some areas of the U.S. However, there are some areas of the country where obtaining a suitable six-gun with the action job and timing needed to make it smooth, reliable and resilient for Cowboy Fast Draw competition can be challenging. In keeping with our goal to provide a clearing house for products that our members need to get set up and started shooting in Cowboy Fast Draw as soon as possible, we now offer a very limited line of top grade Cowboy Fast Draw Six-Guns. These six-guns are completely ready to go and come complete with a Dead Eye Kid Six-Gun Setup. We do not sell our six-guns any other way. All the six-guns we sell are brand new and have only been test-fired, unless we specifically state otherwise. Ruger Vaqueros are generally in-stock and available. Colt-action style six-guns are also available, with a limited stock of various models that are available. We only stock guns offered by sponsors of the Cowboy Fast Draw Association. We support those who support our sport, as most of our members do. Those Sponsors are Ruger, Pietta of Italy, and Taylor s & Co. We sincerely hope that when choosing your Six-Gun from any source, that you consider who helps make Cowboy Fast Draw possible. Payment, Shipping & Transfer Information (We Only Ship To FFL Dealers) Cowboy Fast Draw Association holds a Federal Firearms License (FFL). We only ship (usually USPS) and transfer firearms to other FFL Dealers, which costs $30 per gun. It is up to the purchaser to choose their FFL Dealer and instruct them to FAX (775) ) or (info@cowboyfastdraw.com) a copy of their FFL to us. After receiving payment we will then ship the firearm to your FFL Dealer, who will then be responsible to have you fill out the appropriate forms and conduct a background check, according to Federal and your State Laws and Regulations. The buyer is responsible to pay all transfer fees, background checks directly to their FFL Dealer of choice. All Firearm Sales Are Final. In the unlikely event that your FFL Dealer cannot process your transfer paperwork due to a background check that did not pass. The buyer may contact our office and request a return of the firearm and a refund of the sale. The gun must be returned to CFDA only by the FFL Dealer that it was originally sent to, in the original condition. A refund of the sale will be made, minus the original $30 shipping fee and a 10% relogin/re-stocking fee. Many of our members want to establish a home practice range in order to hone their individual skills, which we see as a place for them to invite their friends and family to join in on the fun. While other members want to form a new club, starting out as a Club in the Works, or go out all the way and start a club knowing, If you build it, they will come. We realize that acquiring one lane or especially multiple lanes of quality timing equipment can present a major challenge in reaching those goals. Therefore, we are introducing the CFDA Timing Equipment Payment Plan. Imagine this! If you have interest in your area of starting a club, you could start it with the right equipment, then hold some equipment fundraiser shoots for a few months and pay off the equipment. This plan will not only provide the equipment you need, but builds the club s team spirit which it needs to flourish! Qualifications This program is available only to CFDA Members! There is no credit check, why?, because we have never been burned by one of our members. This can only be used on Gunslinger Cowboy Fast Draw Timing Equipment Packages, with Net Value of $500 or Higher (not including S&H) Terms: Based Upon Total Purchase Price (Net Minimum $500) Payment #1 40% Due Upon Placement of Order + S&H. 30 Join the Fast Growing Sport of Cowboy Fast Draw Dedicated to the Romance & Legend of the Old West A Friendly Sport that promotes Firearm Safety, Integrity, Sportsmanship, and The Cowboy Way. The Guns Single-action revolvers, factory chambered for.45 Colt caliber, with non-adjustable rear sights such as: SAA Colt, Colt Bisley, 1858 Remington conversions, 1875 Remington, S&W Schofield and faithful reproductions thereof, plus most Ruger Vaquero models. The external parts of the revolver must match factory stock contours and made of original type material: i.e. hammers must not be bent in any way. No trigger shoes, no mods to the trigger guard or grip frame, etc. Front sights are optional and barrels must be a minimum length of 4-1/2, except in the Shootist Category (7-1/2 ). Hammer knurling may be smoothed. The Holsters & Gun Belts 1800 s-style Mexican Loop, Slim Jim, and California Pattern holsters or leather rawhide construction. The over the belt-style holster will be worn on the side of the leg only. No cross-draw, shoulder, buscadero, contemporary Hollywood or steel lined holsters are allowed. Ammunition 95% of ammunition used in Cowboy Fast Draw is.45 colt casings that are specially modified to accept 209 shotgun primers and no gun powder. Velocities reach about 650 fps. Only in major competitions Cowboy Fast Draw Cartridges are used, they must be loaded by CFDA approved reloaders. Targets The standard Cowboy Fast Draw target is a 24 round disc with a start light in the center. The target will measure 50 from the ground. White lithium grease is applied to the target to track all wax bullet hits. In 2017, there are two alternative targets. 17-3/16 round disc, and the CFDA Balloon-Disc, both shot at 15. Competition Timers Digital timers must time to the thousandth of a second. Sanctioned contests must use target with impact sensors. Shooting Style Most folks use a thumb-cocking method, but fanning is allowed. Trigger finger must be out of the trigger guard. If used to cock the hammer the off-hand must not be placed in front of the body before the start light comes on. Contests Contests are shot elimination style, best 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 5 shots per round. The standard contest is luck of the draw man vs. man elimination. Gunslinger 15 ft. Gunfighter 18 ft. Master Gunfighter 21 ft. (Titled Championship Distance) There are Men s, Ladies and Youth Divisions Clothing 1800 s period clothing is strongly recommended. Western cowboy, including working cowboy clothing is acceptable. Western boots or moccasins are acceptable footwear. Western-style blue and black jeans are acceptable. Victorian Steampunk is also allowed. Motto Safety First, Fun Second, Competition Third! Safety One of our primary goals is to educate as many people as possible in the safe and proper use of firearms. Even though we use wax bullet ammunition, we treat them as they were live ammunition and observe all established range safety rules. Some of our Goals To keep our clothing & equipment such as guns and holsters true to form of the time period that we represent ( ) is the year that the Colt Peacemaker was introduced. To promote a positive public image of our sport and gun sports in general, since Cowboy Fast Draw is commonly held in public venues. To promote spirit of the American Old West and the Cowboy Way.
