3 Name: Club: MEEKER HOME MUSEUM Simply call to make an appointment to visit the Meeker Home Museum, the 1870 home of Greeley s founding family. This restored home contains cherished artifacts including furnishings original to the home and used by the Meeker family. During a guided tour of the museum, visitors learn about Meeker s life as an agricultural editor, his success establishing a Utopian temperance and agricultural community in the west, and the circumstances that led him to become an agent at the White River Ute Agency in northwestern Colorado th Avenue, Greeley, CO Hours: Open by appointment only. Call to schedule a tour of the museum. Admission: * $5 Adult $3 Children (3 to 17) & Seniors (60+) $15 Family Rate (max. 5 people) Age: Dear Cloverbuds, New to Weld County 4-H is the Cloverbud Passport! Through this passport, you will have the opportunity to experience Weld County and all that it has to offer (we've included a few places that will stretch our Weld County borders)! When you visit one of the locations, take a picture of yourself there and put it into your passport on the matching page. You can also include any brochures or handouts that you receive. If you visit 8 or more of the places, you will receive a special prize at Recognition Night! Passports are due back to the office by September 7th to be eligible for the prize. Page 15
4 LIVE EAGLE NEST VIEWING CAMERA Xcel s partnership with the Raptor Resource Project and the countless support they provide allows Xcel to continuously raise conservation awareness and strive to create the best nesting homes for these riveting raptors. RRP help us at Xcel Energy maintain and improve the bird cams to create optimal viewing capabilities. We believe in our environmental responsibility to respect the creatures surrounding our power plants and the help and support we receive from both the Raptor Resource Project and you as viewers are greatly appreciated. Location and Nesting Times: American bald eagles at Fort St. Vrain, Platteville, Colo., in late January through July. BEE FAMILY CENTENNIAL FARM MUSEUM The farm museum offers a one-of-a kind learning experience as you journey through time with the Bee family s efforts to cultivate the arid prairie of Northern Colorado. Learn about the history of irrigation, the sugar beet industry, and lamb feeding. Enjoy the Children's activities and animals. o Spring on the Farm will be May 5th Come meet our new baby animals and learn about crops etc. o The 2018 Pioneer Living Day, will be September 22nd With fun activities, animals and learning pioneer skills more to come on events. 5 POUDRE LEARNING CENTER Poudre Learning Center s mission is to awaken a sense of wonder and inspire environmental stewardship and citizenship through education of students, families and local residents along the Colorado Northern Front Range. Louis Vasquez (the fort s namesake) was a trapper in the early 1880s who made his living bartering furs from the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians in return for food and shot. A reconstructed fort stands almost exactly where the original was built. And now, you can tour the replica fort, as well as the museum and visitor center, also located on site. 6 MISSILE SITE PARK The Missile Site Park is great opportunity to step back into the Cold War Era of national defense. The former nuclear warhead equipped Atlas E site was constructed in The host military base for the Atlas E program s command and control was located at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Do something different! Take a tour of a Cold War Atlas E nuclear missile site. It is FREE. Tours take about minutes and you ll experience history which most haven t. Missile Site Park is between Greeley & Windsor on Spur 257, Greeley, CO Tours must be scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM by calling Missile Site Park Caretaker (970) Sorry, no tours on Saturday or Sunday. PAWNEE NATIONAL GRASSLANDS The Pawnee National Grassland has many unique high plains bird species such as the mountain plover, burrowing owl and many birds of prey. Hiking, camping, picnicking, horseback riding and stargazing are also popular activities. Pronghorn, mule deer, coyote,and swift fox are just a few of the species that make the prairie their home. Be sure to take in the majestic Buttes found on the grasslands. While developed facilities are limited on the grassland, recreation opportunities are not. The Pawnee National Grassland lies 355miles east of Fort Collins and 25 miles northeast of Greeley in Weld County. Contained within the 30 by 60 mile area are 193,060 acres managed by the Pawnee National Grassland. Page Page 12

10 WILD ANIMAL SANCTUARY The Sanctuary's two primary missions involve rescuing and caring for animals and educating people about the Captive Wildlife Crisis. The Sanctuary is not a Zoo and offers a completely different experience. Our rescued animals live in large open habitats and are not forced to be front-andcenter just so people can see them easier. Our elevated walkway is more than 1.5 miles long and spans across numerous natural habitats, so there are plenty of opportunities for guests to see many of the rescued animals closer.
