8 HayMaster Systems HayMaster Nutrition Injection Systems has a unique and revolutionary product that will provide an enormous cost savings and benefit to cattle operators. For $3 to $8 a treated bale, the nutritional injection system injects protein (Bale Booster 20, 20% protein or Bale booster 40, 40% protein), minerals and vitamins right into the bale and is designed to get the most out of your rough hay, whether it s two-year-old hay or fresh alfalfa 6 TEXAS HEREFORD September 2011 bales. HayMaster concentrates are sold in pallets, totes or tanker applications. A pallet concentrate contains /2 gallon jugs or 60 gallons total and will treat approximately, 72, 1000 lb. bales. The 250 gallon tote will treat approximately 300, 1000 lb. bales and the 5500 gallon tanker will treat approximately 6600, 1000 lb. bales. The HayMaster System, 3-Point hitch mounted device approaches bale treatment from a new angle. The Cell: patented HayMaster Bale apparatus combines hay hook transportation with injection of nutrients through tree Injector-support Shafts. Bales are retrieved from the field or storage area using the HayMaster device. With a 7500 lb. lifting capacity, the forged steel support spears can support the heaviest bales while being moved to or from the feeding site or storage areas. The directional spray patterns of the shafts venturis are designed to permeate 60-70% of the bale upon penetration with patented HayMaster Hay Bale formula: Bale Booster 20 and 40 (for Protein,Minerals, Vitamins and Energy). Injection takes only seconds. Want to further simplify things? Try the portable handheld 12V injector system. Inject into 5 or 6 areas of the bale for seconds each. Bales are ready-to-eat immediately or for even better saturation, allow the treated bales to sit for several days prior to feeding. Uniquely different from tubs or lick tanks, HayMaster formulas make even your oldest or poorest hay appetizing to your herd and when enriched with energy and nutrients a significant reduction can be seen in supplemental rations. The HayMaster System formulas enhance cornstalk bales, wheat straw bales, rice bales, gin trash and practically any other rough hay making then sweet rolls to your cattle. One man and a tractor equal an enormous savings in time, labor and cost throughout the entire operation. Complete systems, with a pallet of concentrate, start at $ HayMaster Nutrition Injection Systems, Inc was founded in Georgia in 2007 to help combat the excessive drought that plagued the Southeast. Today, HayMaster proudly serves hundreds of satisfied customers and growing, from 32 different states and even has several international customers. HayMaster has participated in major farm and ranch shows, Regional Cattlemen s Meetings, ranch round ups and forage field days at major universities in the Southeast and Southwest. Our concentrates have been formulated and designed by noted veterinarians and animal nutritionists and are the richest and most complete concentrated feeds available with none of the drawbacks of lick tank or tub supplements. Furthermore, veterinarians and university professors confirm and agree that while consuming both the forage and supplement together; bacteria in the rumen are stimulated resulting in a method that is much healthier for the cows and their digestive system. This combination simply forces to feed the way Mother Nature intended. Distributed out of Fort Worth, Texas for the Southwest region HayMaster has been focusing in the Southwest areas hardest hit by the recent drought, where cattle producers are often making do with substandard hay or are forced to pay high prices for the scarce commodity. We are extremely mindful of the devastating effects of the drought in Texas and the economic downturn as a result, and feel our products can make a positive impact on the cattle operators both economically and nutritionally. In addition to their cattle formula, haymaster also sells a formula for horses. For more information about the Hay- Master nutrition Injection System, log onto or call toll free

12 tailgatetalk By Jack Chastain, Editor September marks the end of another hot and dry Texas summer and brings hope for a successful fall sale season. This issue includes ads for most of our fall sales. These sales and the many private treaty cattle available are a tribute to the breeders and their cattle who have weathered the harsh summer heat and drought to keep these genetics available for breeding stock. Please avail yourself to the opportunities to upgrade your breeding programs. Our Hereford breed offers many traits needed to be successful and profitable in these new and trying times. The heat and lack of rain continues to take its toll on many of our breeders, not to mention the horrible wildfires that continue to burn more and more range and now a huge number of homes all over this state. Many of our members rode out the summer and all of these problems but are now facing unprecedented decisions as to how to manage thru the winter and next spring with water, grass and hay in short supply. A lot of good cattle have and will continue to be sold for our ranchers to survive. We send our heartfelt sympathy to those who have suffered losses and hope that Mother Nature will send relief soon. I congratulate all of our Texas juniors for their participation and winnings at JNHE. You make us proud. THA has initiated a new fall consignment sale in partnership with the Buffalo Livestock Auction as advertised elsewhere in this issue. We appreciate the interest and consignments from our members in this new venture as well as the cooperation from the owners of Buffalo Livestock. We hope to see many of you at this sale on October 19. Entries are now due for both the 43rd annual Whiteface replacement female sale and the Cowtown select sale. Hereford cattle will again be stalled in of the Moncrief building (Barn 5 to some). We plan to limit the consignments in the Cowtown Select Sale and plan to have a better display of sale cattle during the show. We hope to expand our advertising and are working on involving some sponsorships to offset the costs. We also plan another Hats off to Herefords and second annual futurity heifer sale in Morgan on May 5, 2012 and need consignments. We must have at least 60 lots committed by February 15, John Mehaffey will again be chairman of this event and solicits your thoughts, ideas, help and consignments. A successful sale is a reflection for everyone involved in the Texas Hereford industry. I conclude to say it was a real treat to attend the HYFA Harvest event and wish to thank the Kunde and Mickelson families for hosting a great event. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this event, especially our Texas donors and buyers. 10 TEXAS HEREFORD September 2011

Since 1960, Round-Up for Rehab has provided an avenue through which friends in the agriculture industry lend their brand of support to help the Rehab Center provide outpatient rehab services annually to more than 28,000 children and adults with disabilities, regardless of their financial circumstance. Ranchers and businesses may participate in the program by donating livestock to be sold at special sales, joining in the bidding, making a cash donation or by donating later in the year. One hundred fifty volunteers, including Honorary Chairman Red Steagall and General Chairmen Mike Alexander and Randy Carson of Abilene and Jody Frey and Bob Helmers of San Angelo are assisting the Round-Up by promoting activities and asking neighbors to join them in donating however they can to the drive. In spite of our own tough times with drought and range fires, we want to do what we can to help Rehab help those facing struggles for independence every day, said Helmers. West Texas Rehab is blessed with long-time supporters, and it s reassuring to know that loyalty and generosity are never taken for granted.
