Design should represent County Fair activities and a verse thanking a business, individual or others for their support of Defiance County Junior Fair. Guidelines: Entry Deadline May 19, 2017 Name of member with the winning design will be printed on the back of card. One entry per member. Entry should be on 8 ½ x 11 cardstock, folded once. Artwork is to be on the front of card only. This should be an original thank you card with artwork representing county fair activities on the cover along with a verse thanking a business, individual or others for their support of Defiance County Junior Fair. Hand designs only - no computer graphics. Member s name, grade, organization (4-H or FFA) should be neatly printed in the lower right-hand corner of the back of the card. Page 2 Page 15

3 Junior Fair Royalty Contest 4-H Advisor Info Application & Essay: Each applicant must complete this application form along with two typed essay responses. Application Posted at: Qualifications This contest is open to members of Defiance County 4-H, FFA, FCCLA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Must be a current Defiance County high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. Be enrolled and an active member in their respective youth organization for at least one year. Must be in good standing within their organization. Must have an exhibit at this year s Junior Fair. Must appear for an interview. No make-up interviews will be scheduled. Applications must be postmarked no later than June 1 st. Interview & Selection Process: Interview Date: TBA Applicant resumes will be reviewed and scored by members of the Defiance County 4-H Advisory Council. Each candidate will be interviewed by a panel of judges. The judges will be knowledgeable about Junior Fair programming and will interview each candidate completing the application process. The interview judges will also score the applicant resumes. The scores from the resumes and interview will be combined. The Court will consist of six individuals. The top female will be named as Queen. The top male will be named as King. The remaining court will consist of the next four individuals with the highest scores (male or female). It will be up to the committee to determine if a second round of interviews is needed. Interviews will be conducted at the Defiance County Extension Office Applicants will be contacted as to their scheduled interview time. Applicants unable to complete their interview on the date specified will forfeit their application Project Judging Dates: Pre Judging (Extension Office) June 19 9:30 am - 1:00 pm * By appointment Skill-a-thon (K of C Hall) July 10 4:30-7:30 pm Still Project Judging (Style Revue) July 11 all day ( K of C Hall) Ohio State Fair July 26 - August 6, 2017 ohiostatefair.com Pre Extension Office June 19th will be pre-judging. This if for anyone who cannot make the July project judging or livestock skillathons. Members must schedule an interview time for the pre-judging/skillathon. Members with a still project judged at a Pre-Judging are not eligible for County Awards or State Fair Competition. Advisor s Completion: Members who did not complete a judging either in June or July may receive an advisor completion. All advisor completions must be turned in by August 4th. 4 Clover Bucks Drawing 4-H Fundraiser The Defiance County 4-H Advisory Council will be conducting a Spring fundraiser. We are asking all 4-H Clubs to sell 5 tickets between now and skill-a-thon. A total of 200 tickets have been printed which means if all are sold, the Council will earn $2,800. Proceeds will benefit 4-H Camp Scholarships and the annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Sewing Clinic Saturday, May 13, 2017 OSU Extension 9:00 am Topics: 4-H Sewing Project Requirements New Defiance County Requirement: Sewing Seam Card Ohio State Fair & Clothing Projects 4-H Camp 4-H Camp Dates: July 17-21, 2017 Theme: African Safari Registration Info: Age: Campers must have completed the 3rd grade - completion of the 8th grade. Early Bird Registration: June 23 by 4:00 pm Registrations received by this date will be entered into drawing to win free camp registration. Final Registration: July 7 4:00 pm Late Fee: $15 late fee will be applied to registrations received after July 7. Cost: Early Bird (Defiance 4-H members only) $ H Member (after 6/23/17) $ 175 Non 4-H Member $ 185 Scholarships: Application on Website There are limited amounts of scholarships available and the award amounts will vary based on the application. Not all applicants will receive a scholarship. Scholarship deadline June 2, Application is on website. Sibling Discount: Thanks to funds from the new Defiance County 4-H Alumni Fund, families with more than one child attending 4-H Camp may deduct $10 for each additional child. 5 About 4-H Camp Palmer.. 4-H Camp 4-H Camp Palmer, located in Fulton County near Fayette, Ohio. The camp's 146 acres are adjacent to Harrison Lake State Park. 4-H Camp Palmer is privately owned by 4-H members in 11 Northwestern Ohio counties and has a proud heritage and tradition of wholesome educational and recreational activities. Campers live in cabins near the central area of camp. Each camper has his/her own bunk and area for personal belongings. Each cabin has well-trained camp counselors. Friends may request to stay in the same cabin. Home-style meals are served in the dining hall. Three meals and an evening snack are the tradition at camp. All camp activities are held in various facilities, including the Craft Hall, Nature Lab, multi-purpose Recreation Hall, Adirondack Shelter and Dining Hall. Recreational activities take place on the sports field, sand volleyball court, tennis court, basketball court, miniature golf courses and archery range. Campers swim in the Olympic-sized pool. Horse PAS Shows Registration: Horse PAS Show in Maumee Valley EERA Go to Defiance County Extension Website: defiance.osu.edu Click on 4-H Youth Development Click on Newsletter/Calendar/Events Click on 2017 Horse PAS show info link Registration Forms are due June 1st to your home county OSU Extension Office OR You may submit an electronic registration by going to Instructions are provided to do this type of registration at the site. If you have questions, please contact Laura Rohlf, Extension Educator, 4-H (Henry Co.) at rohlf.2@osu.edu. Entries submitted online will be forwarded to your county professional. You may not switch shows after registration date (unless it is an extreme emergency). There will be a $10.00 exhibitor fee per show for youth participating at Henry, Putnam, Hancock, and Allen Counties. $15.00 at Fulton County. This is payable at the show/s you attend. Youth cannot compete in more than two (2) PAS shows or one PAS show with two judges. A youth may only use one horse to try out in PAS shows and cannot replace a horse for any reason after they have shown in their first PAS class. Uniform Rules for 4-H Horse Shows will be used at PAS Shows. Helmets must be worn. Qualifying: A youth must qualify in any two (2) classes in order to compete in the Ohio State Fair (OSF)Junior Horse Show and up to 4. Youth will only be allowed to show in classes they have qualified in at the OSF Junior Horse Show. Member s make their own entry in the OSF Junior Horse Show*. Verification of classes qualified in is sent to State Fair Administration by the county 4-H professional. Youth should review the OSF Junior Horse Show schedule carefully for potential class conflicts when selecting their classes. Classes at OSF Junior Horse Show will not be held for youth with conflicting classes. It is the member s responsibility to complete an on-line entry by Noon July 12, *Instructions will be handed out at each show. Date COUNTY LOCATION June 11 Putnam Co. Putnam Co. 6 Ohio Livestock Health Exhibition Rules Livestock Animals purchased outside of Ohio and imported into Ohio must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection. Contact your veterinarian for an after the fact certificate of veterinary inspection if you did not receive one when your animal was purchased. 901: Poultry and fowl. All turkeys, chickens and gamebirds moved within or imported into Ohio for exhibition must: 1. Originate directly from a flock or hatchery which is a participant in the national poultry improvement plan for the eradication of disease and be accompanied by documentary evidence that they meet the requirements of this paragraph; or 2. Originate directly from a flock which has had a negative test for pullorum/fowl typhoid disease within twelve months preceding the opening date of exhibition and be accompanied by documentary evidence that they meet the requirement of this paragraph; or 3. Have had a negative test for pullorum/fowl typhoid disease, within ninety days, preceding the opening date of the exhibition and be accompanied by documentary evidence that they meet the requirement of this paragraph; or 4. Be tested for pullorum/fowl typhoid disease upon arrival at the exhibition by a tester approved by the Ohio department of agriculture and found negative. 5. Waterfowl, doves and pigeons are exempt from this rule. 901: Cattle. Cattle moved within Ohio for exhibition: The animals presented for exhibition must show no symptoms or evidence of an infectious or contagious disease. All cattle imported into Ohio for exhibition must: 1. Be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection issued within thirty days preceding the opening date of the exhibition; 2. Originate from a tuberculosis-accredited free herd, an accredited free state or zone, or a modified accredited advanced state or zone; 3. If originate from a modified accredited state or zone must comply with rule 901: of the Administrative Code; 4. If originate from an accreditation preparatory or a non-accredited state or zone are prohibited from exhibition; 5. If from a brucellosis class A state or area/zone must be negative to an official bru- Page 6 CENTRAL TAGGING: Central Tagging is the first Saturday in June, (June 3, 2017) at the Extension Office from 7:00 am - 11:30 am. Please hold this date for all market animals (except poultry) and all rabbits (breeding and single roasters). Tagging Guidelines: Exhibitors may tag one extra animal for each market entry. No family tag. State Fair Animals: Exhibitors planning to exhibit at the State Fair ONLY and not at the county fair are required to have animal tagged with a Defiance County tag at the January Steer Tagging and/or June Central Tagging to verify possession. State Fair admission will be denied for non-compliance. Purchase of Market Chickens: Paperwork Required When ordering your market chickens for the fair, please verify that you will be receiving a copy of the 9-3 form with your birds. When ordering as an individual it may appear on your invoice like the sample below. If picking up at a Feed Store contact the manager to make sure you receive a copy. The 9-3 form is from the Hatchery that should come with the shipment of poultry. It is the member s responsibility to bring this form to skill-athon with fair entry form. This is an ODA requirement. 7 Quality Assurance Ohio Livestock Health Exhibition Rules cellosis test within thirty days of the opening date of the exhibition unless: they are under six months of age, steers, or official vaccinates under twenty months of age (dairy) or twenty-four months of age (beef); and 6. If from a brucellosis class B or C state or area/zone must meet all requirements for pre- entry testing as specified in 9 C.F.R and obtain an Ohio permit prior to movement. 7. Cattle from a brucellosis certified free herd or class free state or area/zone are not required to be brucellosis tested. 901: Goats. Goats moved within Ohio for exhibition: The animal presented for exhibition must show no symptoms or evidence of an infectious or contagious disease. Goats imported into Ohio for exhibition: 1. Must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection issued within thirty days preceding the opening date of the exhibition; 2. The animal presented for exhibition must show no symptoms or evidence of an infectious or contagious disease; and 3. The owner and the veterinarian must attest to the following statement on the certificate of veterinary inspection the goats in this shipment are not known to be under any movement restrictions because of scrapie. 4. Originate from a tuberculosis accredited free herd as defined in rule 901: (G) of the Administrative Code for bovine tuberculosis eradication; or 5. Originate from a bovine accredited free state or zone, or a bovine modified accredited advanced state or zone; or 6. Originate from a bovine modified accredited state or zone must comply with rule 901: of the Administrative Code. 901: Sheep. Sheep moved within Ohio for exhibition: The animal presented for exhibition must show no symptoms or evidence of an infectious or contagious disease. Sheep imported into Ohio for exhibition: 1. Must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection issued within thirty days preceding the opening date of the exhibition; and 2. The animal presented for exhibition must show no symptoms or evidence of an infectious or contagious disease; and 3. The owner and the veterinarian must attest to the following statement written on the certificate of veterinary inspection "the sheep in this shipment are not known to be under any movement restrictions because of scrapie." 8 Ohio Livestock Health Exhibition Rules Livestock 901: Swine. Swine moved within Ohio for exhibition: At a terminal show (Defiance County) must: Show no symptoms or evidence of an infectious or contagious disease; and Originate from a county which sixty days prior to the exhibition opening date had no pseudorabies quarantined herds; and Have no breeding swine present and all swine removed are delivered for immediate slaughter or to a licensed livestock facility. Swine imported into Ohio for exhibition: 1. Must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection issued within thirty days preceding the exhibition opening date; and 2. Be negative to an official pseudorabies test within thirty days of the exhibition opening date unless: 3. They originate immediately and directly from a stage V area or from an area or country recognized by United States department of agriculture, animal plant health inspection service, veterinary services as pseudorabies free; or They originate immediately and directly from a pseudorabies qualified herd and have not been previously exhibited this show season; or Are exempted by a written permit issued by the department. 4. When presented for exhibition must show no symptoms or evidence of contagious disease. 901: Horses, mules and ponies. 1. Horses, mules and ponies moved within Ohio for exhibition: If not under quarantine and if they are free of any signs of a contagious or infectious disease; and if the animal is twelve months of age or older, the exhibition manager may require that the animal has been tested and classed negative to an official test for equine infectious anemia within twelve months of the opening date of the exhibition. Defiance Co does not require. 2. Horses, mules and ponies imported into Ohio for exhibition shall be accompanied by an official certificate of veterinary inspection issued within thirty days of the opening date of the exhibition or obtain a permit for extended time granted by the chief of the division of animal industry as authorized in paragraph (C) of rule 901: of the Administrative Code; and if the animal is twelve months of age or older, it shall be accompanied by evidence the animal was negative to an official test for equine infectious anemia within twelve months of the opening date of the exhibition; and upon request by an authorized representative of the Ohio department of agriculture, the person responsible for each animal must make available a chronological list of dates, places and events attended by this animal within thirty days prior to entry into Ohio. Defiance County Fair: The following vaccine is required for the 2017 Junior Fair. Proof of vaccination (vet paper or proof of purchase in 2017) is due with Horse ID by June 1 st. This does not apply to Angora goats or Boer does. Dairy Possession Date The Livestock Committee requests members with Dairy projects to identify by June 1st the animals they will be bringing to the County Fair. Information will be sent to members regarding the possession date. Final class entry is due at skill-a-thon. Page 9
