This is the time when your clubs lay all the groundwork for what they plan to accomplish this year and all the work they will do before their projects are judged in the coming months. This is the time that you as members, families, advisors, and volunteers get to help each other learn skills, explore new topics, and work towards completing project goals that will define your H year! With our first county Quality Assurance already in our rearview mirror and the second one coming up on May 5th, we have a lot more exciting events coming up in Wyandot County that are of interest to you as part of the 4-H Family. The next being our 4-H Camper Roundup on Wednesday, May 16 th, from 5:30-7pm at the Fair Grounds Dining Hall. If you ve been to 4-H camp before, then you know exactly what to expect. However, if this is your first year or you re interested in learning more about the fun we have on Kelleys Island, then this is your chance to come ask those questions. Coming to Camper Roundup will let you interact with counselors and adult staff while learning a bit about the projects, games, and activities we will be doing on the island this summer! Maybe the youth in your family are too young for 4-H camp. If so, make sure to have them sign up for our Cloverbud Fun Day on June 8 th! We know that our 4-H Camp Program is one of our largest, strongest programs in Wyandot County, so this is our chance to let younger 4-H members get a taste of camp right here at the Fairgrounds. By spending the day with our camp counselors, staff, and volunteers, Cloverbud-aged youth can get a feel for what is waiting for them in future years at Kelleys Island 4-H Camp! Whether you re just opening your project book, experiencing your first Quality Assurance Training, or gearing up for camp, May is an exciting time for Wyandot County 4-H! 2 Every club or group can assemble a toolkit of recreational equipment and games for it s members to enjoy. Members or parents can donate or loan items to the toolkit which can be stored depending on the size in a box or an old suitcase. The following table lists items and possible activities and games linked to the items. Other items you may wish to have in your toolkit are rubber balls, floppy frisbees, a rubber chicken and blindfolds. Clothes Pin Tag Supplies: Five clothes pins or fewer per person Let s get started! Before you start playing, make sure you make boundaries for this game. All players should start with five clothes pins pinned to the back of their shirts. Have them spread out around the playing area before the start of the game. The object is to try to capture the clothes pins from someone else s back without losing yours. If you capture a clothes pin, you are to go down on one knee while pinning it on your back. While you are on one knee, no one can take a clothes pin from you, but as soon as you stand up, you are free game to anyone. If a player goes out of bounds, he or she loses a clothes pin. Pushing is not allowed, and players only can touch clothes pins, not touch or pull clothes or the body. Any violators will lose one clothes pin per victim. The person who collects the most clothes pins in the allowed time wins. This also can be played with teams. (New Mexico State University, 2009) Cloverbud Idea Beach ball Game Most beach balls have six sections. Write six questions on a flip chart, one for each color (even better if you can write them in the corresponding color). Toss the beach ball around the circle, giving everyone a chance to catch the ball, answer a question. A variation on this would be to have six different actions, such as Walk like a crab, Jump like a frog three times, Swim like a fish, Move like an elephant, March in place and Do three jumping jacks.
