We have changed the prizes on the raffle tickets this year. Tickets will cost $10 per ticket They will be due October 25th with the drawing on October 30th. Tickets will be treated like money; either turn in money for sold tickets or turn in unsold tickets. The club that sells the most tickets per kids will win a Pizza Party! The Highest selling Individual will receive a $50 Wal-Mart gift card! Lets Sell Some Tickets!!

2 4-H Enrollment The 4-H New Year begins September 1st. Enroll on 4-H Connect Current Members, New Members and Volunteer Leaders have to re-enroll or enroll on 4-H Connect by September 30, If you have any questions, please call the Extension office. Get Ready to Sell Raffle Tickets!!! This is a huge fundraiser for the 4-H Program of Wharton County. New Sportfishing Project Club Forming A new project club will be forming for the H year. SPORTFISHING The project club will meet once a month at various fishing spots to fish and learn from guest speakers. Please contact the Extension office if you are interested in joining the club or have any questions. The fishing group is looking for places to catch and release fish for the meetings and guest speaker ideas. If you know of any good locations or speakers please let us know. If you have any fishing equipment that you would like to donate to the project club for group use, please contact the CEO. If you want to help or have ideas, please let the County Extension Office know, by giving us a call or send an . PAGE 2

3 Boots & Bridle Meeting Boots & Bridle 4-H Club will have an enrollment meeting on September 12th at 6:30 pm at the Extension office. Anyone interested in horses is invited. NO Horse Required! 4 Galveston County 4-H Indians Open Playday September 18, 2010 Jack Brooks Park Galveston County Fairgrounds Early Registration Deadline: September 10 $7.00 per class Late Registration Deadline: Postmarked September $10.00 per class Walk up Registration: $11.00 Entry forms are available at the Wharton County Extension Office. For more information contact Fran Watts at or Cheryl Ziegelmann at Wharton County Archery Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 6 pm. Meeting for First Timers and/or Beginners. Please plan on attending if you are interested in joining the archery program. This meeting is imperative for anyone starting out or needing a refresher as we will be coving rules and safety. This gives us a chance to talk to you as well as about a good starting point for your child. You will NOT need any equipment this day. All Archers MUST be in a 4-H Club the archery project DOES NOT count as a club. Wharton County has the largest group of participants in District 11 and we can only hope for continued success. 5 Wharton County Food Show October 30, 2010 Crescent Entries will be due to the Extension office October 22, 2010 by 5:00 p.m. Contact the Extension office for forms and more information. Shotgun Project For those 4-H members interested in the Shotgun project, you now have the opportunity to practice and attend competitions. Charles Wicke of East Bernard is a certified leader for the shotgun project. Mr. Wicke has the facilities to practice in East Bernard, Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 pm. If you would like to get involved in the shotgun project, contact Mr. Wicke at Exchange Group Meeting The Wharton County Exchange Group will be meeting on September 14th at the Extension office at 6pm. If you are interested in participating in the Exchange, you will need to attend this meeting. PAGE 5

6 District Council Newsletter & Community Service Project The District Council Officers and advisors have already been working hard to get the ball rolling for the new 4-H year. The team just published their first newsletter to keep D11 counties and members updated on district wide happenings. The newsletter can be found on the *NEW* District 11 4-H website at h.tamu.edu. In addition to the newsletter, you can download a flyer announcing the district community service project Pennies for Patients. 7 2011 Texas 4-H Roundup Logo & Theme Contest The Texas 4-H Roundup Logo and Theme Contest is Back!!! It seems like the 2010 Texas 4-H Roundup just ended, and Summer just began, but moving into August planning is already underway to make the 2011 Texas 4-H Roundup even bigger and better. The first step in making the 2011 Texas 4-H Roundup a memorable one is getting the logo and theme that will help provide the groundwork for the rest of the year. Last year's theme, "The Road Goes on Forever and 4-H Never Ends" help set the stage for the 2010 Roundup and truly provide a road of new opportunities that youth explored. It is the hopes of Texas 4-H faculty and staff that this year will be no different. We highly encourage individuals, groups, and even counties to take advantage of this opportunity to put their mark on the 2011 Texas 4-H Roundup. Below are a few items that are important if you are interested in submitting an entry. - Deadline for all entries are due September 6, Entries may be hand drawn or submitted in a.jpg format - More information may be found at the following website h.tamu.edu/library/files/youth_roundup_logo.pdf Food Leader Training/Food Show Planning September 28th 6 pm at the CEO Time to plan the up coming Food Show that will be on October 30th.
