2 COUNTY INFORMATION 990 IRS ISSUES We have received 2 items from the state 4-H office concerning 4-H clubs and the IRS. Please let us know if you have recently received anything from the IRS concerning your club. In addition, make sure you log onto the 990e-postcard system and update your username and password H Club/Affiliates across the state have recently received notices from the IRS; some notices state that their 990 e-postcard filing was rejected and some that their EIN has been revoked for failure to file for 3 consecutive years. OSU is working with the IRS to get groups reinstated and corrected. All clubs who have received either of these letters, should contact us immediately with the following information: a. The 4-H Club Name b. The club EIN # c. the nature of the letter you received (see above choices) 2. Many of our 4-H club volunteers have received an with the subject line "Security Alert for Form 990 Online and 990-N e- Postcard." The is from the Urban Institute s National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS). It informs users of the 990 systems there has been a security breech. This is a legitimate message. If you have accessed any of these systems, you should assume your username and password were compromised, regardless of whether you received an . Follow the instructions in the /on the Urban Institute's website to immediately change your password. An FAQ page is at A few key points: a. No individual's sensitive data was hacked (e.g. social security numbers, credit card data, or individual tax filer information). b. The intruders accessed information from all registered nonprofit organizations that have used IRS Forms 990 systems. c. The 990 filing systems have been secured and rebuilt on new, secured servers. Users may file their e-postcard at any time. CAMP COUNSELOR TRAINING DATES First year applicants have been invited to attend a selection night that will take place this week. All 4-H Teens that are selected to be camp counselors will receive notification this week of their training dates. Those selected will have trainings on March 25 and April 22 from 6:30-8:30 pm, and May 16 from 9:00 am-12:00 noon. Additional counselor trainings will take place in June and July. MAKE UP ADVISOR TRAINING If any advisors were unable to join us last week for the training on Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect, we will have a make-up training on March 12 from 7-8:00 pm at the Extension Office. Please RSVP. In addition, the training will be presented to the Master Gardeners on April 8 at 7:00 pm. There are a few spaces available if this date works better for a few of our advisors. Please remember that OSU is requiring that every advisor attend this training this spring. PROJECT CHANGES DUE March 16 is the deadline for project changes. The Organizational Advisor for each club will receive a copy of their club roster in the mail the following week. Please review the roster very carefully and immediately contact the office with any corrections. 4-H COMMUNICATIONS CONTEST The 4-H Communication Contest will take place on Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 pm at the 4-H/Grange Building at the fairgrounds. This is a great opportunity for 4-H members to practice public speaking or show off their club demonstration. Clubs are encouraged to make a night of it and come see what all the chatter is about! Whether to participate or just watch, I hope you will join us for a really fun evening! See the attached flier for contest categories and additional information. A complete list of rules can be found on our website. Entries are due by April 1.

3 NEW PROJECT BOOK UPDATES At this point we have all new project books in stock with the exception of the Poultry Record book and the Robotics EV3 book. The Poultry Record book is currently being packaged for counties. We should see them in about 2 weeks. The Robotics book has been delayed until the end of March. 4-H ALUMNI & FAMILY CAMP Do you want to go back and experience 4-H camp for a day? On Friday, June 19 you are invited to come out to Tar Hollow 4-H Camp to enjoy a funfilled afternoon and evening of fun and crazy camp games and traditions. We hope to welcome alumni, families, and young 4-H ers that might be a little nervous about attending our county overnight camp! All 5 counties that camp at Tar Hollow are invited. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must be registered. Registration opens May 1 via website: Cost is $5/person and includes dinner and activity fees. Alumni and camp t-shirts, as well as canteen snacks will be available for purchase. Only the first 150 people who register will be accepted so mark your calendar to go on-line on May 1. OHIO 4-H CLOVERBUD NEWSLETTER Ohio 4-H Cloverbud Connections Newsletter is now posted to the website: In this Issue we highlight several topics about Volunteering for Cloverbuds: Fun Cloverbud Meeting Activities Faces Bingo Campus Connections Click it, Print it, Do it! Planning Cloverbud Meetings Also check out the Click it, Print it, Do it! webpage where you can find over 30 activities that are ready to go for your next Cloverbud meeting: CAMP PRESENTATIONS Looking for a fun speaker for a club meeting? Help us promote camp by inviting our camp counselors out to play a couple games and talk about camp. JUNIOR FAIR INFORMATION FAIR CHANGES FOR MARKET GOATS New this year Market Goats may be either does or wethers. This is a change from only allowing wethers. The market does and wethers will show together by weight. Market Does may not also be shown as breeding does as this is a different class and project (one animal=one class). Remember all does must have a scrapie tag from the breeder! Scrapie tags on sexually intact sheep and goats is a requirement from the Ohio Department of Agriculture and there are no exceptions. Please help us get this change out to your members taking market goat projects! UPCOMING LIVESTOCK SALES AND BREEDER INFORMATION We have had several breeders notify us that they have animals for sale for Jr. Fair. If you are looking for a goat, rabbit, lamb, or hog, give us a call or stop in to see the file. Breeders can be great sources of information on feed and care of your animals so be sure to ask questions and do your research. SCRAPIE ID FOR SHEEP AND GOATS All sheep and goats that are sexually intact are required to have a scrapie ID. This means ewes and bucks for sheep and does and bucks for goats. Scrapie ID is not required for wethers at the county level, but is required at the Ohio State Fair and many jackpot shows. Scrapie ID can be a tag for sheep and a tag or tattoo for goats. The ID must come from the breeder who has approved their scrapie ID method with USDA as it identifies the animal back to its original herd. Remind your members about this requirement so they may be sure their animals have ID s before they take possession. OSU Extension - Pickaway County 110 Island Road, Suite B, P.O. Box 9 Circleville, Ohio Phone: FAX: pickaway.osu.edu

4 QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS As part of each 4-H livestock member s QA requirements, they must complete the skillathon and additional Quality Assurance activities annually. This includes conducting a documented livestock educational program in your club annually. Each year we have shared a number of livestock education activities you can utilize in your club. If you attended the Advisor Update, your club received materials to teach two QA activities. In addition there are four choices of videos available to supplement your club activities: Animal Cares, Line in the Sand, QA: Strengthening the Chain, and Caring for Animals. If you would like to utilize one of the videos or borrow any of the activities from last year, contact the office to schedule a check-out date for your club. Attached to this newsletter is a list of the 10 Good Production Practices. Members with livestock will receive a list in each of their record books this year. SAFETY AND ETHICS FOR HORSE EXHIBITORS If you have first year horse members, please make sure you show them and a parent the two required videos: Every Ride Every Time and Horse Safety & Ethics by May 1. This year the horse registration forms will ask the member and their parent to sign, certifying that they have viewed the two videos. This rule is not a new one, but may not have been shared well in the past couple years. It might be a good idea to show the videos to all of your horse exhibitors this year to make sure everyone is compliant. HORSE REGISTRATION FORMS All horse exhibitors will receive their registration packet the first week of April. As part of the registration, a COLOR photo is required. This has been an issue for some in past years. ing our office a color photo does not work as we do not have a color printer. Please remind your parents and members to take and turn in a color photo with their registration forms. Horse registrations are due by May 1. FAIR BOOTH UPDATES All 4-H clubs MUST have a fair booth. This is part of the agreement with Senior Fair Board for our members to receive a fair pass. Again this year clubs get to be creative and come up with their own theme. For a complete break-out of the judging criteria, please go to page 5 and 6 of the 4-H Requirements Book. Fair booth assignments will be out in the May newsletter. Booths will be either 8 or 16 feet in length. If you would like to request a different booth size than you had last year, let us know by April 1. Otherwise, you should expect to have a booth the same size as in RABBIT REMINDERS Market and Breeding Rabbits will NOT have a prefair weigh-in/tattoo day. Market Rabbits will be marked during their weigh-in at the fair. A permanent marker will be used, not a tattoo. This method was utilized last year and worked well. Breeding Rabbits must be tattooed prior to fair. This can be done by the member, breeder, an advisor, veterinarian, etc. Breeding Rabbits should be tattooed before May so advisors have the tattoo information for fair entries that are due May 15. TUESDAY SHOW TIMES Please note the time changes to Tuesday s Junior Fair shows: 9:00am Poultry 1:00pm Sheep 5:00pm Goats FAIR WEIGHT REMINDERS/UPDATES Dairy Beef Feeder # Beef Feeder # Market Beef min 1000# Market Goats min 50# Market Hogs # Market Lambs # Market Chickens 10-18# (pen of 2) Market Ducks min 13# (pen of 2) Market Turkeys min 20# toms, min 16# hens Market Rabbits 3-6#

5 SPRING WEIGH-IN/TAGGING The following project must attend a spring weigh-in and tagging: Dairy Feeder Weigh-In Dairy Feeder weigh-in will take place on April 18 from 8:00 10:00 am at the fairgrounds. Complete details will be mailed to all members who are enrolled in the dairy feeder project closer to the weigh-in date. Please note: all dairy beef feeders should be castrated prior to weigh-in. POULTRY POLLORUM REQUIREMENTS The following applies to all poultry with the exception of ducks/geese. Poultry must be pollorum free. It is recommended that poultry comes from a pollorum free flock and is accompanied by a 9-2 form that certifies that. In order to maintain that status, the birds may not be co-mingled with other birds that are not certified pollorum free. If you have a bird(s) that does not have a pollorum free certification or has been co-mingled, you must have your birds tested. According to recommendations from the Ohio Poultry Association, pollorum testing will NOT take place as a county event. Each member that needs to have a pollorum test completed for their poultry must schedule and complete this on their own. Pollorum test results for chickens are usually immediate; however, be aware that at least 3 weeks should be allowed to get the results back on testing for turkeys. Please plan accordingly! FAIR BOOKS Final rules on all fair related items are listed each year in the fair book. Books are typically available starting May 15 at the fairgrounds and the Extension Office. HELPFUL WEBSITES Pickaway County 4-H website: The Ohio 4-H website: Ohio 4-H Animal Sciences website: Ohio 4-H Cloverbud Connections Newsletter 4-H Advisors Handbook: Pickaway County Fair: POULTRY POLLORUM TESTING CERTIFICATION Are you interested in being certified to test poultry? Two training opportunities will be offered this spring; May 19 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds and May 21 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. Cost to attend is $50 with the certification valid for 5 years. Additional supply costs will be necessary. Reservations are due to the OPA office by April 30. Contact the Extension Office for additional information and the registration form..
