It was then owned by two separate Johnson families that were Swedish immigrants. The two-story house was built in 1910, replacing the original soddy. The Bar M brand, used on the right ribs was bought by Karla s grandparents at an auction near Newport, Nebraska in The brand was kept in the family through the years even though it was not actively used. It was given to Rich and Karla by her parents. They later acquired the use of the right hip as well. A small herd of Hereford heifers was purchased from Ridder Hereford Ranch at Callaway and the Messersmith Ranch at Alliance. Rich and Karla handled the operation through the years, eventually buying more of the land and raising alfalfa, grass and row crops. Austin and Sarah were married in 2011, and became partners on all the cattle in The cowherd continues to grow and advance through AI and ET use, along with herd sires in use from top breeders around the country. 3 Saturday - Stop #2 Frenzen Polled Herefords Galen & Gwen Frenzen Family N. Edgewood Road, Fullerton, NE Galen: Eric: e_frenzen@hotmail.com Website: From Bar M Herefords, go west on 26 Rd 1/2 mile, north on W Rd 1 mile, west 6 miles on Hwy 66, north 26 miles on Hwy 14 to place on the left (5 miles north of Fullerton). (There will likely be a detour around Central City due to construction-will be announced at Bar M if needed) Frenzen roots run deep in the Cedar River Valley northwest of Fullerton. Galen s great-grandfather Hans Frenzen, an immigrant from Germany, settled in the valley with his family in Galen s grandfather Frank Frenzen came to where Galen and his family now live on March 1, Other than his four years in college, this is the only place Galen has ever lived. Cattle in general and Herefords in particular have always been an integral part of the Frenzen operation. The first registered females were purchased in 1952 by Clarence and Annita Frenzen as 4-H projects for their two sons, Marlin and Galen. At this time, the operation was known as C.E. Frenzen and Sons. Marlin and his wife Judy had five boys: Craig, Kent, Scott, Rick and Kurt. All showed Polled Herefords and were active in the Nebraska Junior Polled Hereford Association. With Marlin s untimely death in 1992, Judy sold her interest to Galen and Gwen. The operation is now known as Frenzen Polled Herefords. Galen and Gwen have three children: Genna, Tessa and Eric. All three are involved with Eric being the major cog in the operation. Galen is a past president of the Nebraska Polled Hereford Association and was the first president after the merger of the Nebraska Hereford and Polled Hereford Associations. Eric is a current director on the Nebraska Hereford Association board. The herd has always been rigidly culled with emphasis on fertility, calving ease, performance, milk, soundness and positive carcass traits. No creep is fed to any of the calves and all cows are expected to bring in a big calf on their own and breed back with very little supplemental feed-except when the snow gets deep. The first scale for individual weighing was purchased in the early 80 s and AI has been used since Total herd reporting has always been practiced. An annual production sale is held the 4th Tuesday in March, where spring, fall and two year old bulls are sold along with some select yearling heifers. Females are also sold at private treaty. Frenzen Polled Herefords appreciates your attendance at their tour stop. We look forward to visiting with you and hope to see you again. 4 JMS Cattle Co. Our bloodlines go back to the old VanDeWalle Polled Herefords breeding. This breeding includes Trustmark. From there we have added bloodlines to improve our herd which include Thunder, Pure Gold, Hallmark, Manhattan, Kodiak, Reload, About Time, and Built Tuff just to name a few. Our herd is mostly About Time breeding, and we just added an Ideal son to our herd last year and his first calf crop is on the ground. We hope you enjoy your visit. 5 Saturday - Stop #5 TKR Herefords Bruce & Linda Tucker Guildford St., Waverly, NE Phone: or Cell: brulintkr@gmail.com TKR Herefords will be on display at the Hula Herefords stop. Welcome to the 2017 Nebraska Hereford Association Hereford Tour. TKR Herefords have been involved with registered Herefords since the late 1940 s when Floyd Tucker (my Dad), ie: Floyd Tucker and Sons, bought his first registered Horned Hereford bull, and saw the improvement in the calves on our commercial cows. He decided to start buying some registered Hereford cows, and later dispersed the commercial herd and went all registered. He retired in 1982, and I have continued as TKR Herefords, and was later recognized as a Golden Hereford Breeder. TKR Herefords is a guest consigner with Hula Herefords, Brian, at Creston, NE, as he has been managing my small cow herd for a few years. In saying this, I utilized the Hula Hereford herd bull battery, which has some Polled influence, so the calves on display will be half paternal sibs to the Hula calves. I try to maintain a strong emphasis of a Line One cow herd with some Advance, Harland, and 3027 influence. In maintaining our cow numbers and replacing the culled ones, I have utilized replacements from Churchill Cattle Co., Millcreek, Upstream and using some daughters kept from cows purchased from Jameson s. We invite your interest in our program, and welcome your inspection of the Hula/TKR cattle on display. Enjoy the refreshments, and thank you for coming. 6 Sunday - Stop #1 Blueberry Hill Farms Doug & Linda Bolte 1103 Grandview Drive, Norfolk, NE Cell: dbolte@telebeep.com Website: wwwblueberryhillcattle.com TWJ Farms Sunday - Stop #1 William J. Claybaugh th Rd, BOX 216, Carroll, NE Office: Home: Cell: billclay@abbnebraska.com or twj@abbnebraska.com From the Hotel Headquarters in Norfolk, go 7 miles east on Hwy 275, south on 561 Rd 1/8 mile to place on right Welcome to Blueberry Hill Farms! We hope you are enjoying the tour along with renewing and making new acquaintances. We, like most purebred herds, started as a family operation. Lots of cherished memories have been made over the years for our families. Over the years both the cow herds and families have grown. Most of the kids have grown, started new careers and are raising families of their own. The farm still serves as the hub for the family holiday celebrations. The cow herd was scaled back in the Fall of 2014 by private treaty sales. The cows were purchased by Delaney Herefords Inc., in Lake Benton, MN. The bred heifers were purchased by Kinsley and Dakota Gillig, now residing at Springhill Herefords at Blue Rapids, KS. The heifer calves were purchased by Atkins Herefords in Tea, SD. Not only did these cattle go to great Hereford families, it s been rewarding watching the success of the BBH females in their programs. We continue to maintain around 30 females. I also work with longtime friends/partners, Satorie Farms and TWJ Farms, in developing and marketing high quality purebred breeding stock. This allows us larger sized contemporary groups for collecting performance and carcass data. This also allows our customers a broader selection of genetics. We are Gold TPR Breeders and have always been firm believers in whole herd reporting. Our breeding stock is sold at State Association sales and by private treaty at the farm. We will have a cross section of our cowherd, replacement heifers and herd bulls on display. This year s calves are by JDH 42X Proof Y459 87C and AI Sires NJW 985 Durango 44U, NJW 135U 10Y Hometown 73C, Bar JZ Hearthstone 426B, and KCF Bennett Encore Z311. There will also be cattle on display from Satorie Farms, Herman, NE and TWJ Farms Carroll, NE. Thanks for stopping and come back and visit anytime. TWJ Farms cattle will be on display at the Blueberry Hill Farms stop. TWJ Farms would like to welcome the NHA tour participants to our 2017 Tour Stop. TWJ Farms was started in 1972 as a family partnership. At that time, there were four family members and the first letter in their names resulted in the name TWJ (Twila, William, Joseph and Julie). TWJ purchased five cows from Hervale Farms in 1976 to start our herd. Over the years we have purchased bulls and females from Jensen Bro., Churchill, BAR JZ, Charlie Boyd, G&R, J B Ranch, Tom Ihry, Blueberry Hill, Valley Creek Ranch and MCM Polled Herefords. The current cow herd consists of 25 cows of Trust, Prince Victor, Rib Eye and OnLine breeding. The current herd bulls are Churchill Red Bull 502 C ET and TWJ BBH Z311 Trust Encore We sell cattle by private treaty. In 1988, with Leland Herman (Bill s uncle), we incorporated the cattle from Hervale Farms into our operation. We no longer keep separate registrations in both, there is still considerable influence of Hervale and Leland in the cow herd. Leland passed away July 2, In the fall of 1986, we split the feed operation away from TWJ Farms and formed TWJ Feeds, Inc. Today, TWJ Feeds produces about 24,000 tons of chicken feed and about 7,000 tons of hog feed. In 1998, we split the operation and formed Nebraska Egg Ltd. That consists of 480,000 layer hens in four houses. They produce 9.5 million dozen eggs per year. In 1999, we formed Carroll Trucking Ltd., to manage all of the feed trucks, semi-trailer, the three egg trailers, the pickups we use and the other equipment that we use. In 2015, we sold the egg operation to Nelson Poultry from Manhattan, KS. Bill and Julie continue to manage the three operations. Twila passed away 9/21/1990, our stepmother Mona passed away 3/6/2008, and Joe passed away 11/22/2012. Bill still lives on the farm south of Carroll. Julie moved to Albuquerque, NM in March of
7 Sunday - Stop #1 Satorie Farms James Shawn Satorie Widener Lane, Herman, NE Cell: satorieriverbend@gmail.com Welcome to Satorie Farms! Our operation began in 2005 after deciding to follow in my late father s legacy of breeding Polled Herefords. Originating back to North Bend, my father James (Jim) A. Satorie and grandfather James E. Satorie raised Registered Polled Herefords under Satorie Farms Inc. My wife Jessica and I reside in Herman, NE along with our 3 children, Amelia (10), Sterling (4), & Blue (6 mo.). We are enjoying our beginning years in 4-H and teaching them the value of hard work. My herd began with the purchase of 3 cows from Frank Kucera from Litchfield, NE. For the past 10 years, we have slowly grown our herd to 26 head calving out this next spring. Throughout this time, we have tried our best to retain only those calves we feel meet the criteria for phenotype and data. This years calves are sired by 429S Accord (Absolute) and 52U Victor. 429S Accord semen is available for purchase through private treaty or through Streamline Genetics. We will have replacement heifers, our herd bull, and select cow calf pairs on display at Blueberry Hill Farms. We appreciate your visit and hope to see you in years to come. Ed & Marsha Huwaldt Family Ave., Randolph, NE Ed & Marsha (402) ; Angie (402) Keith & Virginia (402) huwed@live.com Website: edhuwaldt.com Satorie Farms cattle will be on display at the Blueberry Hill Farms stop. Welcome to Huwaldts Herefords! We are a family operation which started 138 years ago, raising purebred Hereford cattle. The herd is owned & managed by Ed & Marsha Huwaldt & their daughter, Angie. Ed s great-grandfather, August, brought Hereford cattle with him as he made his way to northeast Nebraska from Germany in In 1879, he was the first homestead in Randolph, trading items in order to keep the Indians from stealing his prize herd. His son, Fern, continued raising & selling Hereford breeding stock until his death in In the mid 60 s, the 3rd generation, Keith & wife, Virginia, purchased their first polled bull. In the 80 s, the 4th generation, Ed and Marsha, took over managing the herd and started using AI sires. Ed and Marsha s daughters; Mandy, Tracy, and Angie; are the 5th generation to show & raise Herefords. We are proud to say that Hereford cattle is the only breed raised by Huwaldts Herefords of Randolph since The herd currently consists of 160 pairs. During the last 10 years Angie has implemented embryo transfer into the herd with some excellent donor cows. Current sires include Perks 322 Easy Choice 6038, SHF Caraway 20Z C157, HH Revolver D7, JDH Victor 719T 3Z, NJW 5M Beef 65Y ET, Dakitch MDK Border Patrol 27B & Dakitch MDK Trust 21B. Current AI Sires include R Leader 6964, C Double Your Miles 6077 ET, H/TSR/CHEZ Full Throttle ET, SHF Rib Eye M326 R117, and JLB W26 Legacy Each year about 30 bulls are kept to sell as yearlings at private treaty & 30 heifers kept for replacement. The balance of the heifers are sold to commercial cattlemen & a few steers, heifers & bulls are sold at select breed consignment sales throughout the year. We emphasize good mothering, disposition, efficient, easy keeping abilities. We strive to produce bulls to sell that will add pounds and thickness for the everyday cattleman. We warmly welcome Huwaldt Cattle Co., JB Ranch & Liable Herefords who are displaying a few head at our farm stop today. We hope you enjoy your visit and lunch being served with our own home raised Hereford beef. Thank you for coming and we welcome you back at any time! Sunday - Stop #2 Huwaldts Herefords

Welcome Hereford Breeders! First, we want to thank the Huwaldts for inviting us to display our cattle. We have been on a lot of tours and we know they are a lot of work to get ready for. Jack bought his first registered cow in 1944, as a green high school boy with a great teacher. He came to work, still green, as a herdsman for Hervale Farms in Leland Herman was a great employer. Jack married Bev in 1957 and the rest is history. We have one son, Jock, ranching in western Nebraska. We continued to build our cowherd to 90 cows until we helped Jock and his wife, Brenda, out west. Now we have about forty cows and we are proud of every one of them. We artificially inseminate some cows, but our pasture bulls are doing a great job. Our new herd bull, 18W Eldorado 78C, from Saskatchewan is doing a great job. His sire is in New Zealand. Our cow herd is now 40 cows. Outcross breeding bulls are Anchor Braxton and Matrix. Herd sires: Anchor 37B, JB 522 High Tech 876B, JB 587 Braxton 913C. TPR herd started in Straight polled bred with muscle, milk and good feet and legs. Our cattle are known for red eyes and conservative markings. We always have bulls and females for sale. We have really enjoyed the purebred cattle business. Most of all, it s the people we have met and done business with the last 60-plus years. Laible Herefords is owned and operated by Ashley Laible. Laible Herefords is located from Bloomfield, NE, 6 miles west on Highway 84 and 3 ¾ miles north on 538 Ave. The farm is owned by my parents, Kurt and Hally Ziegler. I am a registered nurse at the Creighton Hospital. Laible Herefords originated back in 2002, when I was 13 years old and bought 2 bred heifers off the Upstream Ranch annual production sale in February of that year. Today Laible Herefords has a small herd of 20 cows with some being registered Herefords and a few commercial cows. We are currently using a very intense AI program along with selective clean up bulls. I have been a member of the Nebraska Junior Hereford Association and now the National Hereford Association. I continue to buy futurity heifers for my younger sister and brothers to show. I continue to raise and sell my own production females and bulls through private treaty. My three younger siblings, Madie, Wiley and Auzzy Ziegler, continue to show some of my calf production as well as some of their own. A lot of my heifer calves are retained into my herd and some are sold at the Cornhusker sale or privately by commercial breeders or other productive cattle producers
