As part of Touch NZ s commitment to recognize the efforts, service and contributions that the members of Touch NZ make to the organization, the Touch NZ biannual awards process was initiated again in February The Touch NZ Awards policy endeavors to recognize the efforts, service and contributions that the members of Touch NZ make to the organization. The last Touch NZ Awards round was undertaken in I am happy to announce that as a result of the nominations made in this awards round, the Touch NZ Board of Directors on 15 June 2016 approved Touch NZ Awards to 16 worthy recipients outlined in Appendix A brief biography of each of the Award Recipients is attached in Appendix II. Attached in Appendix III is the list of Award Recipients from 1998 to January Attached in Appendix IV is an extract from the Touch NZ Awards Policy and Procedures on the various criteria for all of the Touch NZ Awards. 4. Award presentations for each of our Award Recipients will be made at various Touch NZ events during the season. 5. I would like to thank everyone who made nominations to Touch NZ to recognize the efforts, service and contributions that the members of Touch NZ make to the organization. 6. As the Touch NZ Awards process runs biannually, the next process for awards will run again in Nigel Georgieff Chair Touch NZ Board of Directors

3 APPENDIX 1I: BIOGRAPHIES FOR TOUCH NZ AWARD RECIPIENTS 2016 Peter Walters awarded a Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award Peter Walters has made an outstanding contribution toward the sport of Touch in New Zealand. He has provided extended and continuous service as a member of Touch NZ and been pro-active as a leader in the development of the sport. His nomination was for his volunteer work to continually build the game of Touch at all levels. He has previously received an award as a player and it cannot go without saying he is the most capped player in the world at 126 caps. He has a number of successes also as a coach and mentor for players and teams all over the world as well as here in New Zealand. Scott Grant awarded a Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award Scott s dedication to touch is unquestionable and his involvement with NZ spans over 25 years. He has represented Canterbury and New Zealand at many National and International events. Scott has also been a Provincial coach & player, sat on the Touch Canterbury Technical Panel and of his 21 national titles has won 9 straight with the Touch Canterbury 30 Men s team. Steve Campbell awarded a Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award Steve has represented Canterbury since 1986 across a multitude of open and senior grades. He is a Life Member of Touch Canterbury and has been a Touch Canterbury Technical Panel Member for many years. Steve was also on the Touch Canterbury Board 2005/2006. Michael Daly awarded a Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award Mike Daly has dedicated a significant period of time as a player, coach, selector and mentor in the sport of Touch throughout NZ. He Currently lives in Perth, Western Australia, but prior to crossing the ditch in 2008 he had made a significant contribution both provincially (WGTN Open Men's and WGTN Open Mixed , Horowhenua Secondary Schools Mixed Coach 1990, BOP Open Mixed Rep & Coach 2003 (9 National Titles) BOP Secondary Schools Mixed Co-Coach National Champions) and nationally as a player, Head Coach and assistant coach. Mike has given his time to coach three NZ National Touch Teams: NZ U21 Mixed Team 2003 NZ Internal Tour; 2005 U21 Youth Mixed World Champions 2nd Youth World Cup Kawana Sunshine Coast,Australia; NZ Open Mixed Assistant Coach (Sept) 2003-(Jan)2007; 2004 Unbeaten Tour of Queensland Australia; 2005 All Nations Tournament Champions Christchurch New Zealand; 2007 Open Mixed World Champions 6th World Cup of Touch Stellenbosh South Africa; NZ Open Women's Head Coach 2010 Trans Tasman Test Series Waitakere West Auckland; NZ Senior Mixed 30,s Assistant Coach th World Cup of Touch Silver Medallists Coffs Harbour NSW Australia. Mike's nomination comes mostly as a player who currently sits second all-time as the most capped NZ Representative with 84 International Caps from 1990 (NZ Open Mixed Rep) through to his last test match NZ 40 Men s Vice Captain, World Champions 7th World Cup of Touch, Edinburgh Scotland Mike's NZ Representative career included the NZ Open Mixed 1997 Liptonice Trans Tasman Open Mixed Champions which was the 1st NZ Open Team to win a 3 Test Series. NZ Open Mixed 1999 Open Mixed World Champions, 4th World Cup of Touch, David Phillips Field, Sydney Australia - 1st NZ Open Team to win an Open World Title. He continues to support the sport now with a daughter Autumn Rain Stephens (BOP) who is currently a Touch Black Mixed Squad Member and through coaching support mostly at NZ Masters Level.

4 George Jahnke awarded a Touch NZ Players Award George Jahnke is an employee of Touch NZ but also a valued volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time as both a player and coach in the sport of Touch. He is a member of a Provincial Association and/touch NZ, and has made a significant contribution both provincially and to New Zealand teams, across a wide number of years. George has had success as a coach at the Youth Level winning the mixed grade. George sits in an elite group of only a few players that has reached the 70 tests mark. With his appearance at the last World Cup he is now close to 80 caps and these are all as a player. George s contribution to our game both on and off the field has been tireless and forged across many years. Jean Marsh awarded a Touch NZ Players Award Jean has provided a significant contribution as a player over the last 14 years most significantly in 2016 when she was the 2016 Trans Tasman Touch Blacks Open Women s Captain and the 2016 Counties Open Women s National Champions Captain. Jean first came into the Touch Blacks in 2007 at the South Africa WC 2007 and then again from 2011 to Jean has also contributed to coaching at youth grade level provincially and nationally. Peter McIntyre awarded a Touch NZ Coach Award Peter McIntyre is a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time as a player and coach in the sport of Touch. As a player and coach he has been a member of the Auckland Provincial Association and Touch NZ, and is a person who has made a significant contribution provincially and to New Zealand teams. He has continued to play and coach for his province and is the third most capped player in New Zealand history at 77 caps. He tirelessly gives of his time to support the development of our sport as both a player and a coach. He was the successful winning coach of the 2013 Open Mens Team at the Super Trans Tasman Series. Peter continues to support the game of touch through his involvement with his family all of whom are members of Touch NZ. Peter has given of his own time for the past 6 years to support the development of our pathways structures attending overseas tours and camps alike. Tony Lagahetau awarded a Touch NZ Coach Award Tony Lagahetau is a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time as both a player and coach in the sport of Touch. He is a member of a Provincial Association and/touch NZ, and has made a significant contribution both provincially and to New Zealand teams, specifically in the mixed game. Tony has had success as a coach at both provincial level, winning at Nationals in the Open Mixed Grade for the Auckland Province and also at the International Level. He was the winning coach of the Open Mixed side at the 2013 Super Trans Tasman Series. Tony has attended 3 World Cups, 1 as a player and 2 as a Coach. Tony continues to support the game now at Junior level where he has children playing and as a member of the Touch NZ HP team. Bernie Schrader awarded a Touch NZ Referees Award Bernie started Refereeing in1993. He attended his first Touch NZ National Championships at Counties Manukau in Bernie was upgraded to a black badge Referee at the 2002 Touch NZ Youth/Open Championships. He has contributed to referee development through his roles as Touch NZ Regional Director of Referees as well as Touch Canterbury Referee Director. He refereed at the Auckland 2001 Youth World Cup; Japan 2003 World Cup; and Australia 2015 World Cup. He was a Referee Coach Panel member at the Youth World Cup in Brisbane 2005 and the World Cup South Africa in Bernie was a member of the Touch NZ Referees Advisory Panel from November 2004 to 2010 and was

5 appointed as Touch NZ first paid Elite Referee Manager in November 2004 and moved into the restructured position of Touch NZ Referee Development Manager in December 2007 until Stu MacDonald awarded a Touch NZ Referees Award Stu MacDonald has been heavily involved in officiating and administrating touch rugby within New Zealand. He has been heavily involved in officiating the game for 21 years from 1995 to today (unbroken commitment). Stu was a National Referee from 1999 attending his first Touch NZ National Tournament in Palmerston North and he retired after the 2005 Touch NZ All Nations Championships held in Christchurch where he refereed one of the Finals. He was upgraded to a black badge Referee at the 2005 Touch NZ Youth/Open Championships. Stu has been a Touch NZ Regional Director of Referees for Region 2 for a number of years. Stu refereed in a number of Finals at Touch NZ National Championships between Stu was appointed to the Touch NZ National Referee Coaching Panel in early Stu has been a member of the Touch NZ Referee Advisory Panel since Adrian Purnell awarded a Touch NZ Referees Award AJ has been involved with Touch since its inception in NZ in the mid 80's. Firstly as a player then evolving through necessity to a referee. He was a National Referee from where he was the no 1 referee from He then continued his touch coaching pathway and became involved with the Mezcarz Touch Club through to today. He has coached at Secondary Schools Nationals for 7 years up to He is very involved with the BOP Touch Province at Junior and Senior Level as a Coach/Selector/Administrator/Referee. AJ has been a Touch NZ National Referee Coach since AJ was a member of the Touch NZ Referee Advisory Panel from 2004 to Ray Cairns awarded a Touch NZ Referees Award Ray Cairns is a current member of the Counties Manukau Touch Referees Coaching Panel whom has dedicated a significant number of years to referee development within the Counties Manukau Touch community and additionally at a national and international level actively participated in referee development. Ray began his career as a referee in 1999 and attended his first nationals as a referee in Ray has been fortunate enough to referee on a national and International stage over many seasons and remains one of the very best referees at the elite level. Numerous national finals and Trans-Tasman events bears testament to a referee of the highest quality. Ray has attended 3 world cup events throughout his career attending the World Cup 2007 in South Africa and 2011 in Scotland and 2015 in Coffs Harbour. Puia Williams awarded a Touch NZ Referees Award Puia has been an active Bay of Plenty Touch referee from 1996 to the present day. He has contributed significantly to referee development in and around the Rotorua area for 20 years and is held in the highest regard by his peer s not only provincially, but nationally and on an International level. Within that time he held the position of BOP Provincial Director of referees for a season and played an active part in the region in the development of new referees and mentoring more experienced referees over a long period On a national stage Puia attended numerous national events which culminated in referee finals appointments on a regular basis. Puia performances over a sustained period of time has been recognized by selections and appointments to Trans-Tasman and World Cup events reflecting a referee of the highest order.

6 Attendance in 3 World Cup events 1999 in Australia, 2007 in South Africa and 2015 in Coffs Harbour bear testament to a referee whom has applied his craft diligently which has also allowed him to pass his vast knowledge on too other referees with outstanding success. Puia has a strong connection with Maori Touch, firstly as a referee with many Maori Touch finals appointments and in recent times he has held the position of Maori Touch Director of Referees and Referee Coach Panel member. Puia is highly regarded nationally and is continually called upon to act as spokesperson for the national referees group in both a formal and informal capacity. Micheal King awarded a Touch NZ Special Award - Contribution to Game Development Micheal King is the current chair of the Game Development Panel for TNZ. He is a valued volunteer who has dedicated over 12 years to the administration of the sport of Touch. He is a member of Touch NZ, and has made a significant contribution both provincially and to New Zealand teams, over the last 22 years. Micheal has had success as a manager at the International level with the Open Mixed team with 21 caps to his name. Micheal works tirelessly as a volunteer who offers his professional knowledge and understanding of the components to create a successful culture. His support of the Touch New Zealand staff to develop their roles and work towards the TNZ Strategic outcomes is always fully valued and appreciated. Elly Tobias awarded a Touch NZ Special Award - Contribution to healthcare of Touch NZ players Elly Tobias is a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time toward the betterment of the sport of Touch. She is a member of Touch NZ, and has been proactive in supporting the High Performance area as well as provincial area of the sport, through her contribution to the goals and objectives of the Touch NZ Strategic Plan. Elly has been giving of her time to support our Touch athletes through her services to healthcare for the past 25 years. She goes above and beyond the call of duty always being available to ensure all our players are able to pursue their dreams of representing their country. She takes time away from her paid job to support Touch as a volunteer. Clive Hill, Sports Chiropractor/Acupuncturist awarded a Touch NZ Special Award - Contribution to healthcare of Touch NZ players Clive Hill is a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time toward the betterment of the sport of Touch. He is a member of Touch NZ, and has been proactive in supporting the High Performance area as well as provincial area of the sport, through his contribution to the goals and objectives of the Touch NZ Strategic Plan. Clive has been giving of his time to support our athletes through his services to healthcare for the past 30 years. He goes above and beyond his call of duty always being available to ensure all our players are able to pursue their dreams of representing their country. He takes time away from his private practice and clinic to support us as a volunteer.

10 APPENDIX IV EXTRACT FROM TOUCH AWARDS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES ON CRITIERIA FOR TOUCH NZ AWARDS 3.0 Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award 3.1 The criteria for Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award is for a volunteer who Touch NZ considers has made an outstanding contribution toward the sport of Touch in New Zealand. Such a volunteer will have provided extended and continuous service as a member of Touch NZ and been pro-active as a leader in the development of the sport. The eligibility for the Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award is for persons who have provided contributions to touch at national level only. 4.0 Touch NZ Service Award - Provincial Contribution 4.1 The criteria for a Touch NZ Service Award Provincial Contribution is for a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time toward the betterment of the sport of Touch. Such a volunteer will be (or have been) a member of a Provincial Association, who has been proactive in either the administration or the technical area of the sport, or in providing significant contribution to the goals and objectives of that Provincial Association. The eligibility for a Touch NZ Service Award Provincial Contribution is for persons who have provided contributions to touch at provincial level only. 5.0 Touch NZ National Service Award 5.1 The criteria for a Touch NZ Service Award is for a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time toward the betterment of the sport of Touch. Such a volunteer will be (or have been) a member of the Touch NZ, who has been proactive in either the administration or the technical area of the sport, or in providing significant contribution to the goals and objectives of the Touch NZ Strategic Plan. The eligibility for a Touch NZ Service Award is for persons who have provided contributions to touch at a national level only. 6.0 Touch NZ Award: Player/Referee/Coach 6.1 The criteria for a Touch NZ Player Award are for a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time as a player in the sport of Touch. Such a player will be (or have been) a member of a Provincial Association and/or Touch NZ, and who must have made a significant contribution provincially and/or to New Zealand teams, i.e. Captaincy/Significant National Representation/World Cup attendance s. 6.2 The criteria for a Touch NZ Referee Award is for a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time as a referee to the Sport of Touch. Such a referee will be (or have been) a member of a Provincial Association and/or Touch NZ, and who must have made a significant contribution provincially, nationally or internationally. 6.3 The criteria for a Touch NZ Coach Award are for a volunteer who has dedicated a significant period of time as a coach in the sport of Touch. Such a coach will be (or have been) a member of a Provincial Association and/or Touch NZ, and who must have made a significant contribution provincially and/or to New Zealand teams, i.e. Significant National Representation/World Cup attendance s. 7.0 Touch NZ Special Awards 7.1 The Touch NZ Board of Directors may from time to time make a Touch NZ Special Award outside of the standard Touch NZ Awards: 1 Life Membership of Touch NZ 2 Touch NZ Distinguished Service Award 3 Touch NZ National Service Award 3 Touch NZ Service Award - Provincial Contribution 3 Touch NZ Player/Referee/Coach Award 3 Touch NZ Special Awards 7.2 The Touch NZ Awards Committee may recommend to the Touch NZ Board of Directors any person/s who they consider should receive a Touch NZ Special Award. The recommendation would contain the reasons why a Touch NZ Special Award is warranted outside of the standard Touch NZ Awards.

11 TOUCH NZ CONSTITUTION: LIFE MEMBERSHIP PROVISION 6 LIFE MEMBERS 6.1 To be considered for Life Membership, a person must have provided extended outstanding and exceptional service to Touch NZ or its predecessors including: (a) (b) (c) (d) Length of service. Consistency of initiative beyond the ordinary and normal. Quality of service above and beyond routine service. The conferring of benefits beyond those accrued by normal performance. ("the criteria") 6.2 Any member who wishes to so nominate any person for a Life Membership shall forward a written nomination to the Board by 31 May each year prior to the Annual General Meeting ("AGM"), setting out how that nominee is considered to fulfil the criteria. 6.3 The Board shall consider the nomination and the fulfilment of the criteria submitted in support and if approved by a majority of 75%, shall recommend to the next AGM that it consider electing that person a Life Member. If 75% of those present at the next AGM vote in favour, that person shall be elected a Life Member. 6.4 Upon election a Life Member shall be entitled to attend for his or her lifetime, all subsequent general meetings with a right to speak but not vote, and shall be exempt from paying any Membership Fee.
