1 19 th MACCABIAH JULY 2013 SELECTION TRIALS On behalf of the Maccabi National Golf Council and Maccabi Australia I am offering you the opportunity to express your interest in becoming a participant in the 19 th Maccabiah. The golf teams representing Australia have achieved wonderful results in the last two Maccabiyot in 2005 and In 2005 our Junior team achieved a wonderful Silver medal missing on the Gold by two shots. The Open Team won Bronze and one of our players achieved a previously unattainable sub 300 for the 4 days of competition. The Masters team also won a Bronze medal saw the Australian teams achieve even greater results. The Masters team won Gold and Individual Silver and Bronze. The Open team performed creditably and just missed on a medal. We had a Women s Master team who also performed wonderfully winning Bronze I am offering you a chance to represent your Country, Maccabi Australia and your fellow club golfers to go that one step better. I ask that you register your interest in the Selection Trials and of course attend the trials. The selection process is clearly spelt out in the attached documents. 3 MACCABIAH SELECTION PROCESS SQUAD ELIGIBILITY/NOMINATION PROCESS To get into the team you must qualify into the squad and the conditions are:- 1. Australian Citizen 2. Non - Resident BUT living in Australia for at least 6 months prior to the selection 3. Subject to a selectors exemption (refer Selectors Exemption) 4. A member of a Maccabi State club or Maccabi Australia 5. 4 QUALIFYING (excluding Stableford Entrants) Qualifying will be judged by a combination of the following: 1. Actual Golflink handicap. At the commencement of the selection trials an entrants handicap must fall within the above parameters and if not, at the discretion of the selectors, a golfer maybe be granted dispensation to play provided that they can demonstrate that they have had a handicap in the past that has fallen into the parameters. However in order to be selected for the team the golfer s handicap must fall within the above parameters at time of team selection being finalised (10 December 2012). 2. Individual performance as recorded on Golflink over the selection period. It is expected that each squad member will play at least 5 competitive stroke rounds (excluding selection trial events) prior to 10 December Bonus points will be awarded for all gross scores of 74 and less for Open Players and 76 and less for Masters Players. 3. Attendance to at least one State Championship. 4. Results in the selection trials specified, being the: a Australian Maccabi Golf Championships in June 2012 at the Royal Pines Resort, Gold Coast Queensland, the main selection trial. Points awarded will be at a premium for this event b NSW State Maccabi Golf Championship c. The last day of the November 2012, 3-day event to be held in Victoria. (Those nominees who did play in the 2012 Victorian Championships in Jan 2012 will have their play noted and acknowledged as part of the trial) 5. Points are to be awarded on a sliding scale based on performances at the selection trials with bonus points being awarded for better than average results/rounds achieved during the trials. The points table is attached below. A minimum of six players need to participate in a trial event in order for points to be awarded. SELECTORS EXEMPTION (applicable to the Open events only) The selectors have a Selector's EXEMPTION (if required) and this can be used in the case of a suitably credentialed player who is designated an ELITE athlete or for some genuine verifiable reason cannot play in at least 2 of the events required to qualify (e.g. experiences a long term injury or personal problem etc.). A player who believes the exemption may be applicable must apply in writing to be eligible for the selector's exemption To the Selection Committee care of the Team Manager. The Team Manager writes a report for the selectors on the players applying for these positions. An elite player is one who plays in sanctioned PGA events or tours and who is unavailable to attend selection trials, has credentials such as finishing in the top 3 Australians at the 2009 Maccabiah and who has demonstrated their abilities during the period between the Maccabiyot, or finish in the top 3 in recent state amateur events etc.

5 SELECTION OF PLAYERS For Open men After the Selection trials ALL players will be ranked based on points awarded during the selection period. The first 12 players will be included in the squad for Maccabiah. The top 8 will constitute the team. Where a Selector's Exemption is used, the players who finish outside the squad can appeal in writing to the selectors via the Team Manager provided no selector s exemptions have been granted. Those players ranked 9-12 MAY be called to the team where any of the 1 st 8 ranked players are unavailable for the Games, subject to loss of form, commitment, etc If the selector's exemption is not used, then players make up spots 9-12 are part of the team squad. If there is a tie between spots 8-12, the players stroke scores achieved during the Maccabi Golf Championship (June 2012) will be utilised to determine the ranking order. If there is still a tie, the best stroke score during the championship will be utilised to determine the ranking. There will be no play-offs as it is unpractical and will avoid problems. All competitors except for Open men After the Selection Trials ALL players will be ranked based on points awarded during the selection period. The first 8 players will be included in the squad for Maccabiah. The top 5 will constitute the team then players make up spots 6-8 are part of the team squad. If there is a tie for spots 6-8 then ranking will be done on same basis as for the Men s Open team.

6 TEAM SPIRIT This is achieved by: Meeting the criteria to get into the squad Playing & practicing with the squad in your state starting in May 2012 Playing in the trials Meeting administration requests Meeting Team Manager requests Team orientated attitude COSTS Players must pay for all trial expenses. Where possible use billeting and frequent flyer points. Those that require financial assistance can apply to the Maccabi National Golf Council SELECTORS There will be 3 selectors chosen based on the instruction from MAI. The selectors will be independent of Maccabi, if possible. The selectors will be 1 from the Victorian Golf Union, 1 from the NSW Golf Union and 1 from the Australian Golf Union. The selectors do not have to attend the qualifying events but will be encouraged to do so. SQUAD / TEAM EXPULSION On the recommendation of the Golf Section Manager, the selectors have the right to expel a player from the squad or team due to any of the above -: Repeated on course major offences during trials Criminal offences Failing to meet payment obligations Failing to meet administrative requirements An expelled player can appeal and in this situation will be given a hearing by a selected panel from the Australian Team Management

7 TEAM MANAGERS Team managers will be appointed for all sections namely Open, Masters, Juniors and Stableford. Stephen Wagen has been appointed the overall Golf Section Manager together with the Open Section Manager. RULES OF GOLF FOR MACCABIAH The International Sports Council for Maccabi will publish the Rules under which the competition will be run for the 19th Maccabiah Games GOLFERS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THE POINTS DISTRIBUTION FOR THE AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS (to be held in conjunction with the National Carnival in June 2012) IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THAT OF THE TRIAL ROUNDS EACH TRIAL ROUND WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING POINTS DISTRIBUTION: AUSTRALIAN JEWISH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012 Points Position Bonus Points Gross Score
