Aim and Scope The aims of this policy are: Define the timing, naming, duration of Under-22 Nationals, Determine how teams qualify for Under-22 Nationals, Determine how teams are seeded for Under-22 Nationals. Determine the format of Under-22 Nationals. Define how Under-22 Nationals will be scheduled. Determine how hosting is allocated for Under-22 Nationals. 2. Definitions AFDA refers to the Australian Flying Disc Association The Standard Definitions of the AFDA Operational Policy apply. Under-22 Nationals means the Australian Under-22 Ultimate Championships. 3. Objectives of Under-22 Nationals To provide an opportunity for athletes aged 22 and under to compete at the highest level. To provide a forum for development and selection of national teams To provide a playing pathway for youth athletes To provide promotional opportunities for youth ultimate. 4. Revision This Policy is to be maintained and reviewed by the Director of Development in consultation with the AFDA board. 5. Application This policy applies to all members, administrators, officials, coaches, players, spectators and volunteers of the AFDA. 6. Eligibility To be eligible to compete in the Australian Under-22 Ultimate Championships: Players must be a registered member of the AFDA and abide by its policies Players must be 22 years of age or under as of December 31st in the year of the championship they are competing in. Players must have gained selection through their State or Territory Association Players are eligible to play for the state they've lived in for the majority of the three months preceding the tournament, or, if currently living overseas, the state they lived in immediately prior to going overseas. 7. Timing Timing is chosen so that: State or regional selections are held at such a time that does not interfere with other events that target this age group such as; Regional University Games to allow all athletes to attend.

3 It allows athletes to travel to the event while minimising the interruption to their classes. To be held after Australian University Games on the last weekend of November. Does not clash with the academic calendar for the primary target group. If necessary preference will be given to a weekend chosen to coincide with holidays in the host state so that fields and accommodation options are plentiful. Under-22 Nationals will be a two day event. 8. Format The format of Under-22 Nationals will consist of an U22 Men s, U22 Mixed and U22 Women s division. The format is chosen to: Fit in with the international calendar which sees World Under-24 Ultimate Championships held in odd years (2013, 2015 etc) with an age limit of 23 years and under. Fit in with an Under-22 Trans-Tasman competition held in even years (2016, 2018 etc.) To allow the top athletes and selectors to use Under-22 Nationals as a testing ground for our national team players in an appropriate setting. Allow athletes to remain in the same peer age bracket throughout their elite career. 9. Teams The teams that participate at Under-22 Nationals will be representative teams; each team will represent a state or territory of Australia and be selected by the relevant state/territory association. New Zealand will be offered a place, and the team will be selected by NZUltimate. If a State or Territory is unable to field a team, those athletes can apply to the AFDA to play with an All Australian team however this team is not eligible to win the tournament. A coach for each team will be appointed by the state/territory s association. Coaches must hold a Level 1 Coaching Accreditation and Advanced Rules Accreditation. Each team will have a manager appointed by the state/territory s association. A manager may manage multiple teams. The Manager cannot also hold the role of coach or be a current playing member of the team. The Manager may be a parent or other person. All teams must appoint a Captain and Spirit Captain. 10. Uniforms Uniforms are the responsibility of the respective state/territory s Association Uniforms should comply with the AFDA Uniform Policy. Uniforms should comply with State/Territory colours. 11. Rosters Minimum roster size for Nationals is twelve (12) players. The minimum roster size has been determined to be the minimum number of athletes required for to ensure safety of participation for all members of the team. Roster size will be enforced and registrations monitored by the Tournament Director. No negotiation will be entered into with regards to total number of athletes per team.

4 If, during the tournament, a team has fewer than 12 players fit to play, then the points target for their games will be reduced proportionally (rounded downwards). 12. Seeding Aims: To ensure teams have a fair (not necessarily equal) chance to perform well at Nationals. Strategies: To provide a seeding process that is objectively based on historical results. Teams will be seeded based on: The placing of teams from each region in the previous Nationals. The seeding will be done by the Tournament Director in consultation with the appointed coaches of entered teams. Teams will be placed into pools based on their seeding and the allocation of seeds to pools that is required be the draw chosen. 13. Scheduling The draw for the tournament will be selected from the AFDA Tournament Formats Manual, based on the number of teams in the tournament. The Tournament Formats Manual may further specify which draws are appropriate for Under-22 National Championships. 14. Rules The rules used at Under-22 Nationals will be current WFDF Rules of Ultimate. All players must hold Standard Rules Accreditation and 50% of the players on a team must hold Advanced Rules Accreditation. 15. Green and Gold team A Green and Gold team will be selected from each division by a selection panel/guidelines appointed by the High Performance Committee. The Green and Gold players will be given the opportunity to represent Australia against New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman in non-worlds years. The team will be made up of players who fulfil certain team roles. 16. Child Protection Legislation In accordance with the AFDA Member Protection Policy which is binding on ALL members of the AFDA, including all Managers, Coaches and support staff who have contact with children under the age of eighteen years must comply with relevant State Legislative requirements. 17. Website Under-22 Nationals will have a dedicated event website and Facebook page, all event information, and relevant policies, historical data will all be stored at one central location. 18. Social activity

5 Under-22 Nationals will have a social event scheduled for the Saturday evening. The social event will be organised by the TOC. 19. Hosting allocations Hosting bids will follow the process outlined in the AFDA National Events Policy. The Appointment date for the event will be the final day of competition in the preceding year's corresponding competition. Travel requirements for players will be considered when evaluating bids. 20. Alterations Policy review decisions will be recommended by the Director of Development and approved by the AFDA Board. Operational decisions/event issues will be recommended by the TD or TOC and approved by the Director of Development or AFDA CEO Any changes should be made after consultation with the teams and players affected.
