2 Historic Rim Rock Farm, located northwest of Lawrence is one of the nation s premier cross country courses. The course for the Rim Rock Farm Cross Country Classic on October 5, 2013 has been modified from the 1998 NCAA Championships to better suit mid season racing. The new course offers runners the opportunity to enjoy the scenic twists and turns and one of Rim Rock s notable covered bridges, all while being mindful of mid season fitness. The new course is spectator friendly with coaches and fans being able to easily watch runners within the start/finish area pass si times on the 8k course and five times on the 6k. Rim Rock Farm is no stranger to large events. In addition to the NCAA Championships in 1998, the course has hosted the Rim Rock High School Classic since In 2011, the high school meet accommodated 9,000 spectators and 3,200 athletes. The course is the annual site of the Kansas State High School Cross Country Championships for 3A, 5A and 6A classes. In the fall of 2006, Rim Rock Farm played host to the Big 12 Cross Country Conference Championships. Rim Rock Farm held the Big Eight Cross Country Championships in 1983, 1991 and The course has been the home of the s since 1974 with the property owned and developed by former head track and field and cross country coach Bob. In 2004, Coach graciously donated the property to KU. "There is something for everyone at Rim Rock Farm," said. "Parents are afforded the opportunity to walk around throughout the course and find all the wonderful places to observe. Spectators can catch the runners three or four times throughout the event and eplore the different elevations. And the runners can navigate a course that will challenge them with its obstacles and amaze them with its beauty. That's what makes Rim Rock Farm so eciting." The course pays tribute to seven legendary distance runners with silhouette statues of Herb Semper, Allen Frame, John and Olympians Billy, Wes, Glenn and Jim. DIRECTIONS TO : Those traveling to Rim Rock Farm from the Kansas Turnpike are advised to take the East Lawrence eit and then travel north on Kansas Highway 24/59 (which curves to the west) for approimately 2.5 miles before turning right (north) onto Wellman /RD CR Approimately 2.5 miles later, make a left turn (west) on 13 th Street onto a gravel road. About.25 miles ahead, make a right turn and follow the gravel road approimately 1.3s (north) to the course.
