1 NSW, U23 & Para Track and Field Championships Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre Friday 24 th 26 th February 2017 ATHLETE INFORMATION SHEET Athletics NSW would like to thank you for your entry in the NSW Open Championships, to be held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre from the 24 th -26 th February Please read the following important information carefully. Venue The competition will take place at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, Edwin Flack Ave, Sydney Olympic Park. Access to the venue will be via the front gate only. Athletes and spectators are strongly advised to park in the P1 or P2 parking area to minimise the walking distance to the front of the venue. To gain the privilege of an all-day flat rate, parking tickets can be validated at the Athletic Centre reception area on the hour during competition. Entry Lists Entry lists are available from the Athletics NSW (ANSW) website; It is essential that all athletes check this list to confirm that their entry into each event has been accepted. If you have any concerns, please contact the Athletics NSW office at your earliest convenience. Timetable The final timetable has been released and is available on the ANSW website; Please note that there have been changes to event start times that may affect you. Athletes MUST check this timetable to confirm the start time of your event/s. Check In / Confirmation of Entry Athlete check-in will be in VIP room 2, on the concourse. All athletes must report to Athlete Check-in to advise of their intention to compete at least sixty (60) minutes before the scheduled starting time of their first event each day. Athletes will be required to sign their name on the check in sheets for each event entered. Failure to check-in may result in the athlete being scratched from the event.

2 Call Room There is no call room, thus once checked in; track athletes must report to the start area of the event at least 10 minutes before the scheduled starting time (except for track athletes competing in Sydney Classic events, see below). Field event athletes should report to the field event site at least 20 minutes before the scheduled starting time so warm ups can be completed. Sydney Classic Events The events included in the Sydney Classic are selected finals of the NSW Open Championships. Athletes in field events simply report to the field site 20 minutes prior to the event start time. Track athletes must report under the grandstand at the SOPAC reception area 15 minutes before the event start time. You can find this area through the door near the 50m mark. An official will check your name and provide directions. Track athletes will be introduced by the announcer one by one upon entry to the stadium. Athlete introductions will be filmed as part of the live stream with the feed showing on the big screen (scoreboard). Failure to Participate If an athlete confirms (i.e. checks in) but does not participate or does not compete in all rounds of an event for which they have qualified, the athlete will not be permitted to compete further in the competition as outlined in IAAF Rule Uniform and Competition Bib Numbers Athletes are to wear their Club uniform. All Athletics NSW athletes must wear their 2016/17 competition bib numbers secured on the front and back of their top. Athletes not wearing the official competition number WILL NOT be allowed to compete. Interstate and International athletes will be provided with bib numbers upon checking in. Heat to Final Progression Rules for progression and qualifying rounds are as follows. These are the numbers of athletes checked-in and over-ride the IAAF Rules, and remain subject to changes directed by Athletics NSW. 100/200/400m/Hurdles** = up to 9 athletes, Final only. Over 9, two rounds only. 800** metres = up to 11 athletes, Final only. Over 11, two rounds only metres = up to 16 athletes, Final only. Over 16, two rounds only.

3 ** In the case of straight events, up to 10 athletes, and for 800m up to 12 athletes, may be included in some heats or finals to eliminate unnecessary rounds. In the 100m event - If there are two (2) heats/semifinals, 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd from each heat and fastest others qualify. - If there are three (3) heats/semifinals, 1 st & 2 nd from each heat and fastest others qualify. - If there are four (4) heats, 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd from each heat and fastest others qualify for the semifinals (18 athletes). - If there are five (5) heats, 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, & 4 th from each heat and fastest others qualify for the semifinals (27 athletes). In events 200m and up to and including 800m - If there are two (2) heats, 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd from each heat and fastest others qualify. - If there are three (3) heats, 1 st & 2 nd from each heat and fastest others qualify. - If there are four (4) or more heats, 1 st from each heat and fastest others qualify. In 1500 metres; - If there are two (2) heats, 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd & 4 th from each heat and fastest others qualify. - If there are three (3) heats, 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd from each heat and fastest others qualify. - If there are four (4) heats, 1 st & 2 nd from each heat and fastest others qualify. For events up to and including 800m, nine (9) athletes will progress to the final. Twelve (12) athletes will progress from heats to finals in 1500m events. Reserves will not be placed in finals if a withdrawal occurs. Please note If heats are not required after confirmation of entries during the course of the Championship, the FINAL WILL BE HELD AT THE FINAL TIME. Attempts and rounds in field events: If a field event has a qualifying round, each athlete will be given three attempts in the qualifying round. The top six athletes will progress to the final. Athletes in throws and horizontal jumps events will each be given three attempts. The top eight athletes at the end of the rounds will gain another three attempts. Disability Events

4 Para athlete events will be multi disability events. Medals will be awarded based on the athlete s performance as a % of the world record. All para athlete events are offered in the open age group only. In all Para throwing events the implement weight used will be the weight for that event not the weight for the athlete s age group. For example, if a male athlete classified F38 and aged U18 wished to compete in the Para Open Men s Shot Put he would use a 5kg shot instead of a 4kg shot. False Starts The competition will be conducted under the IAAF false start rule: immediate disqualification of any athlete causing a false start. Occasionally a start will be recalled by the starters; that is due to general unsteadiness of the athletes on their blocks. In such a case no false start is recorded against the field or any athlete in it. Protests Any protest should be made in the first instance to the referee by the athlete or a person acting on his/her behalf within 30 minutes of the results being official. The referee may decide on the issue or refer it to the jury of appeal. The athlete has the right to appeal to the jury, but this must be done in writing and submitted to the Administration Manager at least 30 minutes after the announcement of the referees decision. The protest must be accompanied by a $20 fee which will be forfeited if the protest is dismissed. All athletes must be aware of the above procedure. Starting Heights Women: Pole Vault 1.80m, High Jump 1.50m Men: Pole Vault 3.70m, High Jump 1.85m Private Implements Athletes who wish to include their own throwing implements in the Championship equipment pool MUST lodge them with the Technical Manager at the Technical Room no later than 90 minutes before the scheduled starting time of the particular event. Athletes can collect their implement/s from the Technical Room after the event. Athletes are expected to provide their own vaulting poles. Athletics NSW will not provide vaulting poles. Results

5 Results will be posted outside the competition management room on each day, can be observed on the scoreboard and online for live results. Live results can be found here. Collated results from all three (3) days of competition will be available on Sunday evening, 26 th February. Warm Up Track Athletes should be aware that the warm up track will be open. ALL warm ups must be completed at the warm up track. General warm up will not be permitted on the competition arena when the Warm Up Track is available for use. Gate Entry All competing athletes will gain access to the venue free of charge. A list of athlete s names will be on the front gate. Gate entry for non-competitors will be as follows; - Adult - $7 per day - Concession (U18 and pensioners) - $4 per day Please note - Entry to the venue will be via the front gate only. Coaches Passes; ONLY Athletics NSW coaches passes can be used to access the venue free of charge. ATFCA passes or Athletics Australia passes are not acceptable. Please pass this information on to your coach. 10,000m Lap Scorers Please be aware that if you have entered the 10,000m event, you will be required to provide a lap scorer. The lap scorer is to report to the finish line and meet the appropriate official ten (10) minutes before the commencement of the race.
