All participants are reminded to bring your race bib on race day. Your race bib is essential and must be worn visibly for access to the start pen. 2. Runners taking part in the competitive categories will need to attach the timing tag to the back of your race bib (refer to pg12). Runners will not receive an official timing if they are without a timing tag or if their timing tag is bent and damaged. 3. As large crowds are expected. It is recommended that you arrive at least 1 hour before your stipulated flag off time. Commuting via public transport is highly recommended as parking spaces are limited. 4. Make sure you enter the start pen on time! Once the start pen for your race category has closed, you will not be allowed to participate in the run and will automatically be disqualified from the race. 3

4 IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT THE RUN 5. There is no race that s more important than your health. Should you feel unwell at any point of time, do not continue running and seek medical assistance immediately. 6. Keep to your left to allow faster competitors to overtake. If you encounter runners moving at a slower pace on the right side of the lane, please call out, On your right! As a courtesy measure, please move to the left when you hear this! 7. Baggage deposit will be available at the race village. Please deposit your bags before heading to the start pen. The Race Organiser is not liable for any loss or damaged items stored in the Baggage Deposit. 8. No wheeled devices (roller blades, bicycles, scooters, skateboards etc.) are allowed in the race. Only baby strollers and wheelchairs are allowed in the non-competitive race categories. 9. Pets and companion animals are not allowed in the race premises as Singapore Zoo and Night Safari are designated as a quarantine centre by the authorities. 10.Parents of kids taking part in 2.5km Safari Zoo Kids Dash, please put on the allocated wrist tag for identification purposes. You will need to wait for your child at 2.5km Finish Point inside Singapore Zoo. You may enter Singapore Zoo via its Main Entrance and follow directional signs to the Parent-Child Meeting Point. 4

6 ABOUT THE SAFARI ZOO RUN 2017 This year s theme, Run for Wildlife focuses on raising awareness for wildlife conservation. Each animal icon team supports an endangered wildlife species that we would like to raise awareness for. WRS is also committed to supporting the selected conservation projects. Funding for the selected conservation projects will be allocated based on team scores, with a bigger allocation to the winning team s project. The judging criteria for the teams will be based these three areas, with Team Instagram contest having the highest weightage: 1) Teams Sign ups Top 3 teams with the highest sign-ups will be awarded points. 2) Top 3 runners of the 10km Safari Zoo Challenge Top 3 runners from the Men s and Women s 10km Safari Zoo Challenge race categories will be awarded points. 3) Team Instagram contest On race day, runners have up to 10.00am to upload to Instagram image of their team s conservation messages that are found along the race route or race village with their team s hashtag. Top 3 teams with the highest amount of Instagram posts will be awarded points. How to participate Step 1: Take a photo with our animals along the race route. Step 2: Caption your photo with your team s conservation message that s found along the race route. Step 3: Hashtag #TeamAhMeng, #TeamChawang, #TeamCanola or #TeamSunny and #SafariZooRun. Step 4: Upload your photo to Instagram. 6

7 ABOUT THE TEAMS Thank you for participating in Safari Zoo Run and for helping raise awareness for wildlife conservation! Here are some practical steps that you can take to help protect the wildlife that you are supporting. Don t forget to also spread the word by taking part in the Instagram contest during the run. Team Ah Meng Wild orangutans habitats are threatened by palm oil cultivation. Protect them by purchasing sustainably-sourced products. Team Chawang The Sumatran elephants are critically endangered with less than 2,000 left in the wild. Help them by purchasing only sustainable wood and paper products. Team Sunny Helmeted hornbills are hunted for its beautiful casque - making them critically endangered. Help them by not buying products made out of wild animal parts. Team Canola Human activities like illegal pet trade are endangering the aquatic wildlife, such as turtles. Stop illegal wildlife trade by stopping the demand. 7

8 GETTING TO THE RACE VILLAGE You are strongly encouraged to travel to Singapore Zoo via the public transport as there ll be limited parking facilities available for vehicles. MRT & BUS Take the North-South Line (Red Line) and transit at the following stations: Chua Chu Kang board bus no. 927 at Chua Chu Kang Bus Interchange and alight at Singapore Zoo s bus stop. Ang Mo Kio board bus no. 138 at Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange and alight at Singapore Zoo s bus stop. 9 GETTING TO THE RACE VILLAGE You are strongly encouraged to travel to Singapore Zoo via the public transport as there ll be limited parking facilities available for vehicles. CARPARK Car Park Open Air Car-park The open air car park will be closed and utilised as the Race Village. Entry will only be permitted for authorized and emergency vehicles. Alternative Parking Facilities To address the limited parking facilities available, alternative parking sites will be made available for private cars on Race Day. These sites are: Mandai Lake Road (towards Singapore Zoo), between lamp post number 7 to 16 Mandai Lake Road (towards Mandai Road), between lamp post number 23 to 34 Yishun Stadium car park* *Free shuttle bus service will be deployed to ferry participants from Yishun Stadium to Singapore Zoo. Time: 8.00am to 3.00pm Valet Parking Service Free valet parking service is available from 6am 7pm at the multi storey car park. 9

10 RACE DETAILS INFORMATION TENT There will be an information tent located at the race village to assist you with event information. LATE RACE ENTRY PACK COLLECTION Late race entry pack collection will be available from 6.00am-9.30am at the information tent. BAGGAGE DEPOSIT AREA Baggage deposit will be available from 6.00am-12.00noon. We encourage all to travel light and not to bring any valuables on race day. The race organizer will not be responsible for the loss of any items. HYDRATION Hydration will be available to all runners at the race village before and after your race. DISTANCE MARKERS Distance markers will be placed at every kilometre along the run route so you know when to push the pace! P.S.- Don t forget to take photos and caption the photos with your team s conservation messages that can be found along the race route! Upload these pictures on Instagram with your team s hashtag (#TeamAhMeng, #TeamChawang, #TeamCanola, #TeamSunny) by 10am on race day to contribute to your team s score! CUT-OFF TIMINGS Runners must cross the finish line before the cut-off timings in order to enjoy their Runners Entitlements (e.g. Finisher's Medal). If you do not cross the finish line within the stipulated timings, the on-route hydration points and Athlete s Welfare Area will be closed. 10km Safari Zoo Challenge 10.15am 5.5km Safari Zoo Family Run 10.15am 2.5km Safari Zoo Family Dash & Kids Dash 11.00am RESULTS Official results for the competitive categories will be posted on the official Safari Zoo Run 2017 website ( 48 hours after the race. 10

11 RACE DETAILS DISPUTE OVER WINNER S RESULTS In the event of a dispute over race results, an appeal must be lodged at the Information Tent* within 15 minutes of the category s prize presentation. A non-refundable S$50 administration fee will be charged per appeal. The organizers reserve the final rights to the decision over the dispute of race results. ELECTRONIC RACE CERTIFICATES All runners from the competitive race categories who have completed the run within the cut-off timings will be entitled to receive a personalised electronic race certificate with your race timing about one month after the race. The electronic certificate will be available for download via MEDICAL STATIONS There will be a medical station available at the Race village. In addition, medical personnel will be deployed along the route. In case of emergency, please call the Emergency Hotline ( ), the hotline is also printed on the back of your race bib. LOST AND FOUND If you have lost or found an item, please approach the Information Tent*. At the end of the event, found items will be transported to the Race Organizer s office at 82 Lorong 23 Geylang, #02-05 ATRIX, Singapore If you have lost an item, it is your responsibility to contact the Race Organizer at info@hivelocity.com.sg or with a description and to pay for its return to you. All found items will be discarded one month after the race date. DO S & DON TS Only run along the stipulated race route. Venturing into prohibited areas is highly dangerous. Respect our animals do not feed, tease, or throw things at them. When nature calls, use the portable loos and washrooms available around the race route. Please give way to emergency vehicles. 12 WEARING YOUR RACE BIB WEARING YOUR RACE BIB All participants are reminded to bring your race bib on race day. Your race bib is essential and runners without a race bib will be denied entry into the starting pen. COMPETITIVE RUNNERS All runners taking part in the competitive 10KM Safari Zoo Challenge and 2.5KM Safari Zoo Kids Dash race categories are reminded to attach your timing tag to your race bib. It is your responsibility to do so. Runners without a timing tag will not receive an official timing and will be automatically disqualified. Peel and attach your RFID race chip here 12

21 PHYSICAL ACTIVITY READINESS QUESTIONNAIRE (PAR-Q) The Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) is designed to help you assess your level of readiness for physical activity. It s a simple test that only requires a few minutes of your time to complete. If you are planning to become more physically active than you are now, start by answering the seven questions in the box below. If your age range falls between 15 to 69 years, the PAR-Q will be an indication if you should check with your doctor before you start. If you are over 69 years of age and are not used to being very active, please check with your doctor before proceeding. ARE YOU SPORTS SAFE? Common sense is your best guide when answering these questions. Please read them carefully and answer each one honestly YES /NO 1. Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition and that you should only do physical activity recommended by a doctor? 2. Do you feel pain in your chest when you do physical activity? 3. In the past month, have you had chest pain when you were not doing physical activity? 4. Do you lose your balance because of dizziness or do you ever lose consciousness? 5. Do you have a bone or joint problem (for example, back, knee or hip) that could be made worse by a change in your physical activity? 6. Is your doctor currently prescribing drugs (for example, water pills) for your blood pressure or heart condition? 7. Do you know of any other reason why you should not do physical activity? If you answered YES to one or more questions, talk to your doctor before you start becoming more physically active or before a fitness appraisal. Tell your doctor about the PAR-Q and the questions you answered Yes to. If you answered NO honestly to all PAR-Q questions, you can be reasonably sure that you can start becoming more physically active- begin slowly and build up gradually.
