President's Message Welcome to what promises to be another sensational and enjoyable season of Little Athletics. Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has registered or is planning to register with Northern Suburbs for the 2016/17 season. There is no doubt that this year will be a little different as we navigate our way through the second half of the season with the other clubs in our area. Everyone should now be aware that we are offering different options for our athletes this year due to the planned closure of Rotary for a works program after our last carnival on December The options include a half season for those that would prefer not to compete at Zone and external carnivals and finish by December. The full season option, as normal will allow participation in all external events and the option to compete at other clubs as a visitor after the Xmas break. We continue to work with the other clubs to make this work as seamlessly as possible. As a member of the committee I am personally looking forward to continuing our Centre s focus for our athletes on the Little Athletics motto of Family Fun and Fitness. The success of NSLAC is dependent upon the efforts of the volunteers who work to run our carnivals and support our athletes in achieving their best. We have historically had a wonderful cohort of volunteers who help out both on and off the track and we look forward to this continued assistance this season. For new members (parents and athletes) you will find that there is a wealth of support and knowledge available to assist you in helping out, so please pitch in, and if you are unsure about any aspect of our operations please make sure you ask a committee member or age manager. For parents, supporting your athletes provides you with the opportunity to develop your skills too, and we are hoping that many of you will take up the opportunities we will provide for you to learn about athlete coaching or event officiating. Please take the time to read through this handbook (The Red Book) as it provides information on many aspects of the rules, responsibilities and functioning of NSLAC for season 2016/17. It will be very important this year to keep up on all the information available, so please look out for regular updates in our newsletter and on our website ( You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter (@NSLAC) to keep up with what s happening. Little Athletics promotes that it is important to "Be your Best" and on behalf of our committee I welcome you to help us ensure that the emphasis for our athletes is on fun, participation, performance, technique and simply getting involved with their family in physical and healthy activity. I m looking forward to meeting you (or seeing you again) as we kick off our season in September. Peter O Donohue President August

Introduction Little Athletics New South Wales and Northern Suburbs Little Athletics Centre Little Athletics began in NSW in 1970 with 1,500 athletes. There are now approximately 200 Little Athletics Centres throughout NSW, governed by Little Athletics New South Wales (LANSW). LANSW has a voluntary Board of Management, which is supported by salaried staff. The LANSW web site is a great source of information. Little Athletics caters for both boys and girls starting with Tiny Tots (Under 5), through to Under 17's. Ages are calculated from 30 September. Northern Suburbs Little Athletics Centre Inc. (NSLAC) was founded in 1973, and remains committed to providing sporting activities to all young children of all abilities in the local area. The club has continued to grow and recently has been one of the largest in NSW. Philosophy and Goals The Little Athletics motto is FAMILY FUN AND FITNESS. At NSLAC, we are committed to providing children of all abilities the opportunity to learn new skills and to practice those skills in a friendly and safe environment. We also recognise the importance of making the sporting activities fun and enjoyable for all; athletes, parents and helpers. We encourage athletes of all abilities to take part in all activities, with the focus being on their personal improvement and incentives are provided throughout the season to help them achieve. Parents and other adult helpers are also given the opportunity to learn and understand the rules of each event and the skills the athletes need to master an event. Most of all, our goal is to be a friendly club where children and adults want to go on a Saturday morning. The Season When she spoke at Presentation Day in May 2016, Her Worship The Mayor of Willoughby, Councillor Gail Giles- Gidney alluded to the possibility of WCC carrying out some major refurbishment work at Rotary Athletics Field. We are very pleased to advise that the council budget has been approved and Council plan to commence the work in December Of course, unfortunately, this will impact our carnivals for the second half of the season. We will run as normal from September 3 until December Then it is planned that the field will be closed by the Council. Registration and Fees We are pleased to offer two different registration options this season to take into consideration the disruption during the refurbishment: FULL SEASON REGISTRATION If you register for the full season, at a cost of $135 (incl. GST)*, you will of course be able to attend every Saturday morning carnival, along with optional Wednesday trainings (U8 and above) and Sunday trainings (U7 and above) at Rotary Field until 3 December You will also be eligible to take part in Zone, Region and State and all other LANSW external carnivals in the normal way

We are making arrangements with other Little Athletics Centres and Clubs in the local area, so that while the field is closed in 2017, you will have the option to compete with them as a visitor after Christmas. Ryde, Cherrybrook, Parramatta, Ku-ring-gai, Mosman and Manly have all been contacted and we will advise the arrangements with each club in precise detail as soon as possible. ANSW Registration- NEW THIS SEASON Athletes in the U12-U17 age groups selecting the Full Season Registration will also automatically be registered with an ANSW Senior Club of choice and therefore have the option of taking part in all ANSW organised events throughout the season. As you know NSLAC works very closely with UTS Norths, the senior club who also uses Rotary Athletics Field. We hope you will chose to register with them, rather than a different ASNW club. If you do, UTSN will be trying to make arrangements for its members (and their coaches) to have access to other training facilities during the period that Rotary is closed for renovation. THREE MONTH REGISTRATION For a reduced fee of $95 (incl. GST)* you can register for half a season that is September 3 to December 3, and then have a break for the second half of the season after Christmas. You will be eligible to attend all Saturday carnivals along with optional Wednesday trainings (U8 and above) and Sunday trainings (U7 and above) at Rotary Field until 3 December However, if you select this option, you will, not be eligible for the following: - LANSW run external carnivals - Zone, and therefore Region and State - to compete as a visitor at other centres in dual registration with ANSW (U12 and above) We sincerely hope that you will remain with NSLAC rather than transferring to a different club. This is particularly relevant in the case of those wishing to enter the Zone Championships. Each club (both in our own and other Zones) will still only have its usual restriction of 5 athletes per event (U7-U12) so at a different club you will in effect be competing with all their regular athletes for those limited places, and are therefore it may be more difficult to secure a place. NSLAC will of course also retain its 5 places in each event, so we can assure you that those who wish to compete at Zone with us will be assured a spot, if not in their first choice, but certainly 2 nd or 3 rd choice event. We very much appreciate your patience and understanding during this slightly inconvenient time. However, we must remember that after this refurbishment, we will be lucky enough to be competing on arguably the very best grass track in NSW. *The Registration Fee for the must be paid online. An administration fee of $25 will be charged for payments made in person at Rotary Field, and cheques will not be accepted under any circumstances. There is no sibling discount. Full Registration is for one year from 1 August to 31 July, with three months registration covering the period until 4 December The fee includes insurance, awards, trophies, and club coaching and equipment. Full Season Fees also include entry fees to some championships, - 5 -

Saturday Morning Competition Program of Events At NSLAC Saturday carnivals operate according to a Weekly Event Program which is published on the club s website throughout the season. Athletes, with the exception of Tiny Tots, compete in 3 to 6 events each Saturday. We have a 5-week cycle of events - our first day of competition is Week 1; the next is Week 2, and so on. At the end of each 5-week cycle, we revert back to the Week 1 program and start the cycle again. If a carnival is cancelled due to wet weather or when the ground is closed, the cancelled carnival event program will be used at the next carnival. Tiny Tots The program for Tiny Tots or 'play training' covers the activities of running, jumping and throwing in a modified form. The program encompasses games and activities that have been designed to prepare Tiny Tots for their introduction to athletics in the U6 age group. Organising and Management of Age Groups Athletes are organised into age groups strictly according to their date of birth and are accompanied to their events by their Age Manager, Assistant Age Manager and parent helpers. Our volunteer Age Managers and their assistants do a magnificent job coordinating the athlete's activities every week. No athlete should leave during an event or prior to the conclusion of the last event for that age group, including visits to the toilets and canteen/bbq, without first advising their Age Manager or Assistant Age Manager. Our Age Managers are coordinated and assisted by the Age Manager Coordinator, who is their first point of contact, and who keeps them informed of important news and events. Any important information will then be circulated to the parents in the age group by the Age Manager. Safety Officer Each age group must have at least one, and preferably two or more Safety Officers each Saturday. This responsibility should move from parent to parent throughout the day. The individuals will be identified by a brightly coloured labelled vest, and their role is to look out for danger or injury to athletes and proactively avoid any such situations. Canteen and BBQ The canteen and BBQ are open every Saturday morning, and are an important source of funding for your Centre. Both are usually manned by one or two Management Committee Members, assisted by rostered parents. Please support these activities, both by helping out as and when needed, and enjoying the food and drinks they offer for sale. Wet Weather If it has been raining during the week or early on Saturday morning and you are not sure if competition will be on, we will attempt to have the information on our website at around 7 a.m. You can also call Willoughby Council's wet weather line on or check their Ground Closure website:

Conduct at Northern Suburbs Little Athletics Centre At all times when involved with an NSLAC event or activity, all athletes, parents, coaches and volunteers are expected to act within the LANSW Codes of Conduct and Behavioral Guidelines, a copy of which is printed on the following pages of this book. If any member of the Club is uncomfortable with, or would like to comment on, the behavior of another person involved with the Club they have two options: 1. Talk to the person themselves. It is recommended that this course of action be taken where there might be some constructive feedback that the person wishes to provide. If this is the chosen course of action, this conversation should take place away from where other people can hear it and at a time when both people can focus on the issue. The person initiating the conversation should give the other person time to prepare their thoughts on the subject. If this conversation involves an athlete, then their parent must also be present. If this course of action does not resolve the issue and one or both parties wish to take it further, they can move to option 2 below. 2. To lodge a formal complaint against a person. This action should be taken if the person believes there has been a breach of the Code of Conduct. This complaint should be in writing and should be given to the Club President or Vice President. If a formal, written complaint is lodged, two Management Committee members will be assigned to investigate the issue. This is likely to involve hearing from a range of people who may have knowledge of the incident(s). Based on this they will recommend action to the full Management Committee who will determine how the issue should be addressed. Options open to the Management Committee include: Requiring an apology Requiring a person to not make contact with another person Requiring a person to remain a certain distance away from another person Requiring a person to remain within a certain restricted area Suspension from the Club for a number of weeks (this includes training, Saturday carnivals and championships where the athlete represents the Club) Expulsion from the Club The initial disciplinary action, if any is required, will be dependent on the severity of the breach of the Code of Conduct and in line with the NSLAC Constitution. It is expected, however, that multiple breaches will bring about disciplinary action of increasing severity, as will refusal to abide by the determination of the Management Committee. It should be noted that if the incident is in regard to an adult not an athlete, then the same disciplinary actions will apply. In the case of suspension or expulsion, an alternative parent or guardian will need to be present for the athlete to continue to compete

Parent Responsibility and Duty Roster Little Athletics is run by ALL the parents for the benefit of ALL the children, and as such, it is essential that ALL parents assist in the many activities each Saturday morning. Parent Responsibility For Occupational Health and Safety and Child Protection reasons, it is a condition of membership of the Centre that a parent or adult guardian from each family must always be present at Rotary Athletics Field at all times the children are there. Parents of all registered athletes completed an online declaration to this effect. This declaration relieves NSLAC and its elected officials of any responsibility or liability in case of accident or injury. NSLAC is run entirely by parent volunteers there are NO qualified medical staff on hand in case of emergency. Parent Duty Roster and Obligations There is a Parent Roster in operation for 3 club-wide duties each Saturday Equipment Set Up (from 6.45a.m.), Canteen and BBQ (7.30 to 11.30a.m.) and Equipment Pack up/bbq clean (by noon). These duties are allocated to three or four age groups each week, and follow the same cycle as the 5-week event program. Equipment Out requires the assistance of all parents from the age groups on duty and must commence before at 6.45a.m. in order to have the equipment ready for the start of the carnival. Canteen & BBQ requires the assistance of 2 or 3 parents for each area throughout the carnival and ideally this would be broken into shifts and shared between parents. Equipment In requires the assistance of all parents from the age groups on duty and will require those parents to remain until the completion of all events (not just the events of their own age group) to ensure that all equipment is packed away before we vacate the oval by 12 noon. Helpers need to remain until ALL equipment is packed away and the sheds are locked. The roster for these duties will be published on the club s website under the Calendars & Programs dropdown Parent Duty Roster. It may be updated from time to time during the season, so please check regularly as it is a condition of your child's enrolment with the Club is that you fulfil any and all allocated roster duties. For those joining for the first time this season, please take time to study the roster carefully, note when you are required for a particular duty, and ask your Age Manager or a Committee Member if you have any questions. Parents of Tiny Tots are not included on this roster, however parents of Tots who also have older children registered will of course be required to participate in the older age groups rostered duties. Over and above these club-wide duties, each age group requires the assistance of many parents each week to facilitate the running of the age groups events. Each age group is also responsible for ensuring the data entry for their own field events is completed across the morning of the carnival. If the age group does not enter any events, they may not be available in the published results. Parent /Guardian Sign On A parent or guardian of any child attending a Saturday carnival must complete all the details on the "Sign on Sheet" at the entrance to the field on arrival. Parents who are on the oval are expected to be assisting with the running of the carnival, and therefore need to sign on to be covered by insurance

As mentioned above, it is a condition of an athlete participating that there is at least one parent available to support their child/children. Parents who are not assisting with events on the athletics field are requested to be seated in the grandstand or on the grassed areas outside of the field. This will ensure safe running of the carnival, and those parents must indicate their location in the appropriate column assisting at on the sign on sheet in case they need to be located in the case of accident or emergency to their child. On rare occasions when it is unavoidable that a parent must leave while their child is still at the oval, they must designate an alternate adult to be responsible for their child in their absence, and this must also be noted on the sign on sheet, so that the responsible adult can be located quickly in the case of accident to the child

Safety and Other Rules Visiting Athletes and Unregistered Children Athletes registered with other LANSW Centres are welcome to compete with us on Saturday mornings, provided they can show proof of registration with another centre, complete the necessary visitor formalities before competing, and compete in their own centre uniform. Unregistered siblings or other unregistered children are not permitted to enter the athletics competition oval at any time for any reason. Insurance All registered Little Athletes and parent officials who have signed on at the roster desk are covered by insurance taken out by Australian Little Athletics (ALA). If a parent fails to sign the attendance register, they are not covered by insurance and are not permitted on the athletics field. Anyone entering the field who is not a registered athlete or an adult having signed is not covered by insurance. Please report any injury or accident to the Secretary at the registration desk on Saturday or as soon as possible thereafter. These must be recorded in writing in the Centre Records Parking For the safety of all children, car movements are totally prohibited on the front apron or in front of or behind the change rooms between 7.00 a.m. and 12 noon every Saturday morning. Any cars which park in this area before 7.00 a.m. will not be allowed to leave until 12 noon. Registered disabled drivers would be excluded from this requirement, but must exercise extreme caution and watch carefully for small children running around. When parking or dropping off children PLEASE - PUT SAFETY BEFORE CONVENIENCE. Do not drop off or leave children unattended in the car park. When parking in the car park, please ensure that no-one is blocked in and that you park in a marked parking space. Do not park on garden beds, plantings or other areas where damage could occur to vegetation. Willoughby Council Rangers do patrol the ground from time to time, and anyone not in a marked parking space faces the risk of receiving a parking fine. Sun Safety Athletes are allowed to wear hats in all events and, except in the high jump, will not be penalized in any way if they fall off. If an athlete's hat dislodges the bar in the high jump it will be ruled a foul. Sun block is provided for all athletes and parent volunteers free of charge at the canteen. It is also recommended that T-shirts be worn over singlet, ¾ or crop tops while not competing. Encourage your child to stay in the shade when not competing, and make sure they have a water bottle and drink plenty during the morning. Out of Bounds The following areas are out of bounds on a Saturday morning: The embankment of the river and the boardwalk, mud flats behind the sheds and to the North of the ground. Most of the river is not fenced and is very dangerous for young children. All of the bush area to the north of the ground, either side of the pathway to the grandstand and above the ground. The car park area except when coming from or going to your car. It is the responsibility of all parents to ensure their children do not venture into any of these out of bounds areas

Member Protection NSLAC consider the safety and protection of everyone involved to be of the utmost importance and as part of the Constitution, has appropriate policies and procedures in place to ensure this. NSLAC also fully endorses the LANSW 'Personal Protection and Intervention Policy' which includes the 'Codes of Conduct' and 'Behavioral Guidelines' reproduced earlier in this book. These documents relate to the behavior of all athletes, parents, relatives, spectators, officials, coaches and administrators. The NSLAC Constitution and regulations can be found on the website and the full Personal Protection and Intervention Policy can be found in the "Resources Policies and Guidelines" section of the LANSW website. Looking after our ground Willoughby City Council maintains Rotary Athletics Field. It is one of the best grass tracks in Sydney, and we must therefore try to keep the track in the best possible condition. When athletes are training on the circular track, they should obey the signs and not use the inside lanes. We must always leave the field and surrounds in a clean and tidy condition. Please use the rubbish bins provided, and keep the ground tidy by picking up any litter before you leave each week. No Smoking All council facilities have been designated strictly NO SMOKING areas, and NSLAC will enforce this ruling in order not to be in breach of its lease agreement. No Animals Willoughby City Council regulations prohibit dogs and other pets from being on Rotary Field at any time. Please leave your pets at home when coming to the Saturday morning competition. No Ball Games The playing of any ball or other games on the athletics field, on the road or asphalt areas is strictly prohibited for the safety of all athletes. Any balls being used on the field during Saturday carnivals or mid-week training sessions will be confiscated indefinitely. Pacing Let the athletes do it by themselves! Parents ARE NOT permitted to run on or alongside the track to urge their children on. This is against the rules of athletic competition and if any records are set under such circumstances they will not be recognised. Please cheer and encourage ALL children, not just your own, from the side of the track/event area. Lost Property Our lost property collection can be found behind the registration desk near the canteen. Please regularly check for any missing items. The collection of lost property operates on an honor system. NSLAC will endeavor to return items which are clearly marked to their owners, but the lost property container will periodically be cleaned out and any unmarked or unclaimed items will be donated to charity. An announcement will be made to alert you when the box is about to be emptied

Uniform and Clothing Uniform, Numbers and Age Patches Every athlete must wear a Northern Suburbs uniform at all Club and external competitions, including every Saturday carnival at Rotary. The Northern Suburbs T-shirts, singlet and ¾ and crop tops (for girls) are red with black trim and feature our Club logo and the logo of our major sponsor Chatswood Orthodontics. The boys running shorts and girls bike pants are plain black with the NSLAC logo. There must not be any other markings or advertising material on the uniform. Every athlete will be issued with: An individual registration number - which must be attached to the front of the top*. Age patch to be attached to the left hand side front of the uniform. (NOT the sleeve.) Orange Jetstar patch to be attached to the right hand side front of the uniform top. Please refer to the diagram below for exact patch placement for the different age groups. *Tots to U11 - As the major sponsor of LANSW, McDonalds has designed the Registration number patch with a red border around the outside. This red border MUST be visible. *U12-U17 will receive a OneSport registration number for the Little Athletics uniform please use the patch WITHOUT the QR code. U12-U17 Athletes who have taken Full Season Registration, will receive two additional OneSport numbers for use with their ANSW Senior Club Uniform, as per details supplied separately. If you are unsure, please ask for clarification before stitching the patch onto the uniform as incorrect patches will be invalid and there is a charge for a replacement. Returning athletes please note: a. A new registration number patch is issued each season, and the previous season patch must be replaced. Even if the athlete retains the same number, a new patch MUST be attached as it will show the season date, and previous season patches are no longer valid. b. Jetstar patches are ORANGE. Any old white patches must be removed and replaced. It is essential that all number patches are securely fixed to the uniform, and all sponsors logos or other lines or markings on each patch remain clearly visible. The athlete may be disqualified from competition if uniform policy is not strictly adhered to. JUNIOR (Tots to U11) SENIOR (U12 to U17)

NSLAC MAJOR SPONSOR -Chatswood Orthodontics As the new major sponsor of NSLAC, effective August 2016, the logo of Chatswood Orthodontics will be printed on all uniform tops manufactured after that date. Anyone using a previous season uniform will be issued with a Chatswood Orthodontics patch which must be attached to the uniform just below the orange JetStar logo patch, according to instructions which will be provided. Compression garments may be worn but they MUST be above the knee and NSLAC requires that they are plain black in colour. NSLAC requires that all athletes wear the centre uniform 'bottoms' over the top of compression garments at all LANSW competitions. Competition singlet/t-shirts must not cover any compulsory numbers and athletes maybe fouled if they have been asked to tuck them in and do not comply. Running Shoes Shoes must be worn in all events at all times. Children in Tiny Tots, U6, U7, U8, U9 and U10 age groups may not wear spikes at all. In the 2016/2017 season: - Spikes may be worn by athletes in the U11-U12 age groups in High Jump, Long Jump and running events which do not have a pack start and are run entirely in lanes. - At LANSW events, spikes may be worn by athletes in the U13-U17 age groups in High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump and all track events with the exception of walks. - At Rotary carnivals on Saturday, the use of spikes by U13-17 athletes in distance events will be at the discretion of each Age Manager, taking into account the safety of all athletes and other attendees on the day. Spiked shoes are very dangerous and can cause serious injury to the athlete wearing them or to others. Spikes must be put on just before each event and taken off immediately upon finishing the event - BEFORE leaving the track or the event area. Spikes are the main cause of injury at our club and spiked shoes WILL be confiscated for the morning and performance points WILL be cancelled if this rule is breached. We ask for the assistance of all parents to continually reinforce this very important safety rule. On tartan tracks 7mm spikes are the maximum length allowed in all running events this includes tartan long and triple jump run up areas. Spikes for high and long jump must not exceed 9mm. Spikes for grass tracks must not exceed 12mm although this is generally far too long for children, and we do not encourage their use by children at Little Athletics. Some tartan tracks may have different requirements and it is important that these requirements are adhered to. Children s spikes usually measure 5mm or 7mm. Spikes for the Mondo track at Homebush can usually be purchased at the ground. Second Hand Shoes The club will sell second hand shoes on your behalf, and when your shoes are sold you will receive $10. Any remaining proceeds of shoe sales will go towards the cost of equipment for the club. If you need a pair of spikes, the second hand shoe sale may have some in your size. You can hand in your shoes or look at those for sale at the Desk each Saturday morning

Communication Web site Our website will contain all the weekly results from Rotary as well as other important and useful information about the Centre. Check regularly at Newsletter A Newsletter will be published from time to time. When published, the newsletter will be available on the website, and limited copies may also be available on the sign-on table at the field on a Saturday morning. Social Media NSLAC maintains both Twitter (@NSLAC) and Facebook accounts for sharing information. Please follow us. If you don t have a Twitter account, our most recent tweets appear in a feed at the top of our web site. Photographs If you do not want photographs of your child(ren) to appear in publicity material such as in the newsletter or annual Year Book or on the web-site, you must advise the Secretary in writing. Notice Boards At the ground each Saturday morning, we use several whiteboards to display information regarding mid-week coaching, upcoming events (such as photo day), entry deadlines (such as for Zone carnival, State Relays, etc.), special notices, and much much more! Please check all the boards regularly to keep up to date with what is going on. PA Announcements BE ALERT for announcements made over the public address system during the course of a Saturday morning carnival. It is probably something you need to hear! s are sometimes sent to some or all members through our Clubs Online Registration system. These e- mails often contain important information such as carnival entry dates, re-registration details, etc. If you selected "NO" to the mailing list option for any child when you completed your online registration you will not receive these messages. We recommend that you go back to your online registration record and select 'YES' to the mailing list option for each child registered to make sure that you do not miss any important information throughout the season. Please see the Desk for further clarification about this. Age Managers also often send s to remind parents and athletes in their age group of upcoming events and to foster team spirit. Please review these as they will contain important information. If you are not receiving these communications, please speak with your Age Manager to make sure they have correct details. Additional Information Please discuss any queries you have first with your Age Manager, and if they are unclear, approach a Management Committee Member or the Desk for further clarification

Coaching and Development Athletes will run, jump or throw best if they have the right technique. Children who want to improve their performance should try to attend our club coaching sessions which are provided free of charge to age appropriate registered athletes. Club Coaching Sessions Our coaching sessions are conducted at Rotary Field during the season by our accredited and experienced coaches, subject to their availability. From September to the end of November 2016, sessions will be held as follows: Wednesday afternoons 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.- U8 and above*. Sunday afternoons 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. U7 and above. *U7 athletes who have nominated and been selected to compete at the North Met Zone Championships in December may attend Wednesday coaching in their Zone events once the selections have been confirmed. Coaching will be offered in specified events at each training session. Details of coaching for the following week s session(s) will be available at the Desk each Saturday morning and notice of the sessions will also be posted on the website. Any athlete wishing to attend club coaching should fill in the form at the Desk the Saturday before the session. If you cannot sign the form at Rotary, you can The Secretary to confirm your attendance. The must be sent prior to 1pm on the day of the session. All children must also sign on at the start of each coaching session to indicate they have attended. This information will be used to help in planning future coaching programs. Any athlete attending any club coaching session must wear their NSLAC uniform top with CURRENT SEASON registration patches attached. Uniform shorts may be worn, but are not compulsory for training sessions. A parent or adult guardian must remain at Rotary Field whenever an athlete is attending a coaching session. However, only parents specifically requested to assist with the sessions may remain on the athletics field during coaching. All others must remain in the grandstand or on the adjacent grass area. We share the oval with UTS North s senior club at this time, and therefore there are a number of adults also training. For the safety of everyone concerned, all siblings and other children must stay off the athletics field at all times. The coaching sessions will progress through an event during the season. Therefore it will be an advantage for an athlete to attend a number of sessions in a row in order to learn the skills to progress to an advanced level in an event. If you are unable to attend the club coaching session for any reason, most of our coaches also conduct private or semi-private sessions at different times. Please contact them directly, or speak to the Secretary at the Desk on Saturday morning for more information. Contact details for some club coaches are shown below. Details will also be published and updated during the season on our website : LANSW Junior Encouragement & Talent Squad (JETS) The Little Athletics NSW Junior Encouragement & Talent Squad (JETS) aims to recognise, reward and foster emerging talent in the sport. Any athletes who are registered in the U12 to U17 age groups who achieve the qualifying standards and agree to the conditions of membership may apply to become a member of the squad. For further information, please contact LANSW on or

Education for Parents Most parents do not have a background in athletics or working with children. For this reason, the Centre provides several opportunities for parents to become familiar with athletics events and procedures. Introduction to Coaching (ITC) For the parents who are interested in teaching the skills to the athletes, Introduction to Coaching (ITC) Courses will be held at many local clubs during the season. Please refer to the Season Calendar or contact the Secretary for further details. NSLAC will reimburse the cost of the course upon successful completion. For parents interested in obtaining higher level coaching credentials, there are several other courses available. Course fees may be subsidised by the club, but some commitment to assist with Centre coaching during the season would be required in return. For further information on these courses please contact the Secretary. 26 Championships Information applicable to those selecting FULL SEASON Registration ONLY General information All the Little Athletics Clubs in NSW are organised into Zones and Regions. Northern Suburbs is in the Northern Metropolitan Zone. The other centres in the Northern Metropolitan Zone are Parramatta, Cherrybrook, Ryde and North Rocks Carlingford. There are 8 regions 4 metropolitan and 4 country. The Northern Metropolitan Zone is part of Region 5 which is made up of 2 Zones: the Northern Metropolitan Zone and the North East Metropolitan Zone (Hornsby, Mosman, Ku-ring-gai, Manly Warringah and Northern Districts). Zone Championships The Northern Metropolitan Zone Championships are held on a weekend in December at the ground of one of the centres within the Zone. (Back up dates will be provided in case of rain). The Zone Championships are organised by a voluntary committee made up of representatives from each of the 5 centres in the Zone, coordinated by the Zone Coordinator also a parent volunteer. The Zone Championships are the first qualifying stage to progress to Region and State Championships. Selected athletes from the U7 to U17 age groups from all 5 clubs within our Zone are eligible to compete at the Northern Metropolitan Zone Championships. The Zone event program, which includes the full range of events appropriate to each age group, is available on our website. Athletes in the U7 to U12 age groups may not compete in more than 4 individual events (plus the relay), and in the Northern Metropolitan Zone Championship no club may enter any more than 5 athletes in any one event from the U7 to U12 age groups. Athletes in the U13 to U17 age groups may not compete in more than 6 individual events (plus the relay). There is no restriction on the number of athletes a club may enter in any event from the U13 to U17 age groups, but each athlete is still only permitted to compete in up to 6 individual events. There is also a Junior Relay Team (one athlete from each of the U9, 10, 11 and 12 age groups) and a Senior Relay Team (one athlete from each of the U13, 14, 15 and 17 age groups) for both boys and girls. At Northern Suburbs any child may nominate to compete at the Zone Championship, but because of the above restrictions on entry numbers, these nominations are then reviewed by the Age Manager, the Championships Officer and if necessary the Management Committee. Subsequently athletes who meet the Club s selection criteria will be invited to take part in one or more of their nominated events at the Zone Championships. It is recommended that athletes in the U9-U17 age groups study the State Championships program of events (available on the LANSW Website) prior to nominating for Zone events. The State program is quite different to the Zone and Region program and athletes need to ensure they are available for their events, identify potential clashing events or events which may occur too close together. If you think you may not manage all your events as per the State program, please consider changing or reducing your nominations to allow others the chance to compete. Zone nominations must be submitted online. Athletes will be advised when the nominations open and close. Please adhere to the closing date carefully as late entries are not allowed for external any championships. Once reviewed, your Age Manager will confirm the events you will compete in. U7 athletes do not proceed past Zone level. Medals are awarded to 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places in the U7 age group in each event and certificates and ribbons are awarded to the 8 finalists in each event from all age groups. Progression from Zone to Region (U8-U17) is as follows: as part of a Region with only 2 Zones, the first 6 place getters from each Zone will automatically progress to the Region Championships. In addition, a maximum of 4 next best qualifiers from each of the 2 Zones may be invited to compete at the Region Championships
