1 ITU World Triathlon Hamburg 2013 World Cup within a World Cup Hamburg elects Mixed Team Triathlon World Champion Since 2002 the Hamburg Triathlon is one of the most important sporting flagships of the Hanseatic City. It started as Holsten City Man in 2002 with Age Groupers and about 100 world class athletes, the event has become the largest triathlon in the world with almost 10,000 participants in the heart of the Elbe metropole. Its special flair comes from the location, which is in the center of the hanseatic city, and a unique enthusiasm from 300,000 spectators. From the beginning the organizers and partners bet on the combination of top-class and mass sport to offer a versatile competition for beginners as well as competitive sportsmen. A temporary highlight in the event chronicle was the successful alignment of the Elite and Age Group Triathlon World championships in 2007, with the German Daniel Unger as the winner. That was also a reason why Hamburg became a model for the initiated ITU World Championship Series in In this exclusive series of triathlon events in notable international locations the ITU World Triathlon Hamburg is the sixth out of eight stations where the top athletes have to fight for important points. For many well-known Top-Athletes, like Javier Gomez (current World Championship leader & vice-olympic winner 2012) or the german squad with Olympic winner Jan Frodeno and vice World Champion Anne Haug, Hamburg triathlon is one of the favorite Events in the year. The British superstars Alistair Brownlee (Olympic Champion 2012) and his brother Jonathan (World Champion 2012) are going to participate the first time in Hamburg in the Elite distance this year. The new highlight this year is the Mixed Team Triathlon World Championship a championship within a championship. 20 national teams with each, two women and two men, compete against each other in a Super-sprint triathlon ( m swimming, 5-8 km cycling, km running) in the order woman-man-woman-man. Every team member completes a whole super-sprint triathlon and hands over to the next starting team member. Winner of the Mixed Team Triathlon World cup will be the team with the fastest time in total. Detailed information can be found on: An additional significant component of the event conception is the Hamburg City Kids Triathlon at the Stadtpark. 3,000 Kids and teenagers met on the 13 / 14 June from over 100 schools to start at the biggest student-triathlon. This event is one of the most important and greatest school sport events in Hamburg. Not the high performance or the ranking were in the foreground, but rather to be a part of it and bringing the teenagers closer to triathlon.

10 9 th Hamburger Student triathlon Hamburg City Kids Since 2005 the Hamburg students triathlon takes place in the Hamburg city park Hamburg City Kids since 2010 and takes place on two days a year since Over 3,000 students from 100 schools from Hamburg started on 13 and 14 June 2013 in the Naturbad Stadtparksee. The event is Hamburg s biggest school sports event and one of the biggest students triathlon in Germany. The concept to organize a triathlon with pupils as a competition out of the school setting, but broadly as a class, turned out to be very successful. Not only victories and rankings are important, but rather participation, team spirit and the experience of competition by itself.
