15 track & Field features / Design The indoor 200 meter hydraulically banked Mondotrack SX is only one of six in the United States and one of eight in the world. Mondo has designed the tracks for the last ten Olympic Games and is the global leader in the sports flooring market, manufacturing floor surfaces for virtually every sport. The state of the art six lane oval track takes just ten minutes to raise or lower for banked corners. All track and field components meet IAAF, NCAA and NFHS standards. There are eight-60 meter lanes (for dashes and hurdles) located within the infield area of the track with dual horizontal runways for pole vault, long jump and triple jump. Additionally, dual high jump approaches can be configured along with dual throwing sectors for shot-put located outside the oval next to the implement/weigh in station. The weight throw sector and net meets IAAF and NCAA specifications. Locker Rooms and Trainer Room There are two designated locker rooms for teams. Ice machines will also be available in the trainer s room along with six trainer tables. No spikes allowed in these areas. Dedicated Warm Up Room Housing four-60 meter lanes, the warm up area includes run out and stretching room. Spikes must be checked before any competitor will be allowed onto warm up track. Athletes will be allowed to enter warm up area in one direction only (Northwest corner next to clerking station). Two lanes are designated for sprint and two lanes designated for hurdles preparation. Athletes will be allowed on warm up track approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour prior to their event. Only coaches, athletes and trainers should be allowed into warm up track area. The use of cell phones, IPODS, CD players or stereos should not be allowed in area. 11

16 volleyball features / design The CrossPlex capabilities include hosting volleyball tournaments, staging clinics/- camps and providing training facilities for club, high school and collegiate level play. The indoor track and field venue can be converted into nine courts with dedicated rollout flooring creating court space. The flooring is a Mondosport Performance surface laid on top of the track surface. The sport performance floor is a three layer surface engineered to assure playing comfort and minimize the risk of injury. Since 1997 Mondo s Sport Performance floor has been listed as a FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) recommended product. It is the same surface used for all Olympic volleyball courts. Courts can be divided with drop down curtains to accommodate individual tournament specifications. Tournament amenities include meet management room, hospitality room, locker and trainers rooms and press box. 12

17 natatorium features / design Designed by Counsilman/Hunsaker, the pool has ten-50 meter lanes, ten-25 meter lanes and twenty-25 yard lanes. The pool has the ability to hold 1600 spectators in the stands and 400 athletes/coaches on the deck. There are two-1 meter and two-3 meter springboards mounted on concrete pedestals for diving competitions. There is a meeting room for coaches/officials along with two large capacity male and female locker rooms with showers. The pool is designed to handle water polo (FINA Certified) and synchronized swimming events. Installed in the pool is a fiberglass movable bulkhead to accommodate multiple racing and training configurations. The pool is equipped with two-20mm LED Video Screens (9 H x 16 W) with a resolution of 144 x 240. The pool is designed to handle 40 touch pads with timing equipment provided by Colorado Timing. Additionally, four digital pace clocks can be provided for swim meets. The pool has a regenerative media water filtration, ultraviolet water treatment and an extra deep concrete/tile gutter system. In its shallow end the pool is 7 feet and 13 feet in the deep end. Ultimately the design creates a calmer pool and reduces the amount of turbulence swimmers must face. In addition, the bulkhead features a flow-through design which minimizes waves rebounding on turns. 13

18 arena features / Design Connected to the CrossPlex is the 5,000 seat Bill Harris Arena. The arena is a great multi-purpose facility with a floor space of 20,000 square feet. It has been used to host a variety of events from concerts to trade shows to rodeo s and multiple sporting events that include basketball, wrestling, volleyball and cheerleading competitions. With multiple seating configurations the arena is capable of conforming to various program arrangements. It includes two hospitality suites and a press box that overlooks the venue floor. It also houses four team locker rooms, an official s room and trainer s room. There are two meeting spaces with the arena, a conference room capable of holding 20 people and a meeting space capable of holding 200 in a theater style setting. improvements Built in 1981, the Harris Arena has gone under a 3 million dollar renovation that includes a four sided center hung LED display scoreboard, basketball floor and basketball goals, HVAC system and other facility improvements. With these upgrades the CrossPlex is committed to providing the best environment and experience for everyone at the arena. The CrossPlex is just minutes away from downtown Birmingham and is easily accessible to and from hotels, restaurants, shopping areas and amusement attractions. 14

19 general info Ticketing All ticket pricing and policies will be determined by the stakeholder institution or by the individual stakeholder. Ticket Biscuit will be used for coordinating ticket purchasing. There are four ticket windows located to the right of the main entrance on the west side of the Crossplex and two ticket booths on the Arena side, which meet ADA accessibility requirements. Restrooms Within the Crossplex are three sets of men s restrooms and four sets of ladies restrooms with handicap accessible stalls. Additionally, three family restrooms are located in the main concourse. Restrooms can be found in the main concourse and on the second level. The restrooms in the main concourse have 53 stalls on the women s side and 32 stalls on the men s side. On the Arena side, 4 sets of men s and women s restrooms are also available. Handicap Accessibility On the Crossplex side, there are 32 handicap seating areas located in the bleachers on the first row of both the east and west sides of the building. Handicap parking spaces are also adjacent to the building. There is a handicap dedicated elevator allowing movement from the first to second floor and a lift from the second floor into the press box. The lift is accessed and operated by key held at Crossplex administrative office. On the Arena side, handicap areas are 15 made available for every event. Loading Dock Capabilities There are two loading and delivery bays for large equipment located behind the building. The delivery bays are on the first floor and are easily accessible to and from the track and arena. During move-in and move-out periods, all event related activities will be managed through the loading dock. Parking The Birmingham Crossplex provides over 1,200 parking spaces located on property. There are front and rear turnabouts for bus and van drop-off as well as dedicated bus/van parking located in back of the parking lot. The parking lot is equipped with 26 handicap parking spaces. Security As per City of Birmingham policy, each event will be required to staff uniformed Birmingham Police Officers. The number of officers will be determined by Crossplex/Event Stakeholder based on specific factors addressing the overall safety of participants and fans.

20 facility information Meet Management Room Packet pickup control is located on the main concourse next to ticket entrance. There will be dedicated areas for spike control, clerking and implement weigh in located within the track area. Coaching areas can be designated at strategic positions throughout the arena as approved by event management. Please refer to the coach s handbook provided by the host institution as to the locations and guidelines. Room can also be used for officials and volunteer check-in. Media and Operations Work Area The press box is designed to accommodate TV, print and electronic media representives. There are individual work stations allowing for up to 18 people with individual wireless, Ethernet plug in, TV monitors, speakers, copy machine and file bin for dispersing results. The event operations box is located next to the press box and is designed for use by the timing team and PA announcing staff. This is a dedicated space for use by approved CrossPlex timing groups and PA announcers. The event stakeholder will be responsible for supplying their own announcer and timing team. If needed, CrossPlex can recommend an announcer upon request. 16

21 facility regulations personnel allowed on floor Track Meets: Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Credentialed Personnel and Athletic Trainers contracted by the event stakeholder will be allowed on the floor during competition. All other Athletic Trainers will wait in a designated area to receive their injured athlete from the contracted Athletic Trainer on the floor. Volleyball: Teams, Coaches, Officials and Credentialed Personnel allowed on playing surface. Individual teams will be allowed to have an Athletic Trainer on their bench during games. Swimming: Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Life Guards, Credentialed Personnel and Athletic Trainers will be allowed on pool deck. Equipment Allowed on Track Surface Any piece of equipment with wheels must have rubber or plastic wheels Refrain from sliding heavy items across the floor Only one portable treatment table will be allowed on the floor during events. it will be located near the track finish line against the wall. Medical or athletic training needs will be addressed in the first aid or athletic training rooms Trunks or any other equipment will be allowed on the track floor only with permission from crossplex management Volleyball athletic trainers will be allowed to carry with them a medical supply kit to have on the bench Athlete s bags will not be allowed on the floor during track and field events. Only bags with competition equipment will be allowed 17

22 facility regulations General rules The Birmingham CrossPlex is a non-smoking facility Athletes are not allowed to run outside of CrossPlex perimeter Restricted areas are clearly marked throughout facility No one is allowed access to restricted areas without written approval of facility management Children must be attended by an adult at all times and are strictly prohibited in areas not designated for such purposes. Forbidden areas include, but are not limited to, warm-up track, hallways, restrooms and elevator No food or drink will be allowed on track floor or warm-up area No athlete bags will be left on the event floor during track and field events Signage/Decorations Clients may not nail, staple, tape, hang or attach anything to the walls, ceilings, fixtures or floors Stickers, glitter and confetti are not permitted in the facilities. Adhesive backed decals and stickers may not be given out inside or outside the CrossPlex by any client, exhibitor or individual Event signage opportunities are offered during the contracted timeframe (term) of the event and must be hung within the leased area of the facility 18

23 facility regulations Signage Regulations All signs and banners should be assembled and ready to be placed Delivery and return of signage to be coordinated with CrossPlex Event Management All internal and external signage must be approved by CrossPlex Management. The CrossPlex reserves the right to refuse to hang any signs and banners deemed unsafe or inappropriate All signs and banners will be hung by CrossPlex personnel Lost and Found The CrossPlex is not responsible for lost, misplaced or stolen items but may maintain a lost and found for a period of seven days following the event Event Insurance Each event stakeholder will be required to provide proof of insurance coverage as per City of Birmingham guidelines 19

24 facility code of conduct We ask that as a coach, athlete or spectator that you be respectful to the facility and to all employees of the CrossPlex Guests shall avoid blocking the view of other guests Guests shall not interfere with the event, the performers or the athletes in any way Guests shall refrain from using foul/offensive language, fighting, obscene gestures, throwing objects and engaging in other behavior detrimental to the experience of other guests Guests shall not stand on seats or any other building structure Guests shall not block the aisles Guests shall not occupy a seat or remain in an area for which they do not possess a valid ticket or credential and shall provide their ticket upon request Guests are encouraged to report inappropriate or offensive behavior to a Uniformed Officer or Guest Services Representative Guests shall comply with requests from staff regarding operational and emergency procedures Athletes participating will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any coach, parent, player participant, official or any other attendee The use of alcohol, drugs and drug paraphernalia are strictly prohibited The staff has been trained to intervene when deemed necessary and to use their best discretion to help ensure that guests who ignore the Code of Conduct do not interfere with other guests ability to enjoy an event. Guests who violate the Code of Conduct may be subject to ejection without refund and, to the extent their conduct constitutes a violation of law, may be subject to arrest.
