1 TERM OF REFERENCE Run Rhino Run Fun Nature Tracking 10K to raise public awareness for Javan rhino conservation Background With only about 50 individuals left in the wild, the Javan Rhino (lesser one-horned rhino or Rhinoceros sondaicus) is probably the rarest mammals on earth. Located in western tip of Java Island, Indonesia, Ujung Kulon National Park is the only place in the world where the remaining of Javan rhino survives, while other distinct sub-species of Javan rhino from Vietnam has been declared as extinct in This year WWF Indonesia reaches its 50 Years Anniversary, which falls in September Given that WWF started its work in Indonesia with Javan rhino research in Ujung Kulon in 1962, public awareness and outreach campaign on conservation of Javan rhino become a very strategic tools to highlight 50 years of WWF s important works in the area. RUN RHINO RUN a public awareness campaign Ujung Kulon National Park and its surrounding boast a beautiful forest and coastal areas on the western tip of Java. Aside of being the only habitat left for thejavan rhino, the area sustains the lives of communities in the buffer zone. We believe conservation works and community empowerment in the area rely on public awareness as well.as an effort to increase public awareness, series of public awareness activities need to be conducted. One of the ideas is to create a one of a kind running event across the buffer zone of Ujung Kulon National Park. WWF-Indonesia in collaboration with Indo Runners community will hold a 10K fun nature tracking Run Rhino Run on 24 th of June 2012to engage fun-loving runners and people who care about environment who want to take part in rhino conservation efforts. Activities 1. An online preliminary round will be held from 31 st May 14 th June 2012 to select 50 runners. Term and conditions to join the online competition can be found in by clicking here 2. Fifty selected participants will have a chanceto participate in 10K fun nature tracking which will be held on 24 th June 2012 in Ujung Kulon.
2 3. During the stay, participants will be provided with short training to get more information about Javan rhino, its habitats and conservation efforts needs to be done. 4. Transportation from Jakarta to Ujung Kulonand accommodation during the event will be provided by WWF-Indonesia Running Track The track will cross the buffer zone of Ujung Kulon National Park, with spectacular views of farm, green hills and sea, offering runners with a-one-of-a-kind running experience.
