6 Bowerman s Shared Commitment Bowerman conveyed to Knight and a few others, and Knight conveyed (perhaps more gently) to many that a shared commitment requires a balance of outstanding individual performance and a simultaneous willingness to contribute that performance to the efforts of heterogeneous and unequally talented group. Bowerman taught that a shared commitment returns to each individual more than he puts into it, even if an individual s contribution is a lot bigger than everybody s else s.
