3 SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2013 CROTON POINT PARK The TOUGHTEEN race will be integrated within the structure of the main TOUGHMAN race. You will go off at 6:40am before the Toughman race begins. 5:00am...Transition opens, body marking & chip pick-up begins 6:15am...Head to the beach 6:20am...Transition Closes 6:30am...Opening ceremonies on the beach 6:35am...Head to swim corral 6:40am...TOUGHTEEN Race begins 7:18am...TOUGHTEEN Winner expected 8:00am :00am... 4 Packet Pick-up Wednesday /4 11:00am 7:30pm JackRabbit Sports 42 West 14th St (5th & 6th Ave) NYC Saturday /7 1:30pm 6:30pm Registration Tent Croton Point Park Body Marking available Absolutely no swimming will be allowed on Saturday at the race site as the course is being set up. You must pick up your own packet NO-ONE ELSE CAN PICK UP FOR YOU! You need PHOTO ID to collect your packet. If you are a USA Triathlon member you MUST bring your card. If you lost your card or its expired, bring a copy or renewal receipt: Relays do not have to come together to pick-up their packets and the team captain cannot pick up the whole team s packet. Each member must pick up their own packet. Wristbands must be worn from the time you pick up your packet until after the race is over. If you pick up your packet in NYC, you will have to wear your wristband for 4 days. NO EXCEPTIONS. We will gladly exchange your T-shirt size after the race on Sunday. Stop by the Race Info tent with your current shirt. Race Packet Enclosed in each athlete s packet will be: Swim Cap Bike Frame# Helmet # Bike Stem Sticker Wristband # Disposable Timing Chip You must wear your assigned Zoot Swim Cap no substitutions or color changes. 6 Transition Area Transition closed 6:20am 1:00pm Bike racks are individually numbered: rack by the seat, not bars Extra equipment is not allowed in transition (e.g. bike trainer) Check bike, pump tires. Mechanics will be available next to the transition area Bike must have a BIKE FRAME NUMBER attached in order to enter transition Spectators are NOT allowed in the transition area Overnight security is provided on Saturday night (TOUGHMAN not responsible for lost/stolen equipment) Mylar balloons are allowed to mark your spot To remove your bike from transition, your wristband must match bike number Expo Race Expo is open Saturday...10:00am 6:00pm Sunday...8:00am 3:00pm Products will be available to purchase, view or sample (bring cash and credit card) TOUGHMAN Shop will have adult and children s apparel as well as cowbells and accessories. 9 Swim 6:15am... Head to bathrooms and beach. It s a long walk to swim start so leave early from transition 6:30am...Opening ceremony begins 6:45am...Race begins! Guests can be with you on the beach for ceremony, but not in the swim corrals Swim start is a land start Freshwater swim with current to bring you into shore 18 large ORANGE buoys that you will keep on your left Turnaround will be marked by a YELLOW buoy and a 35ft sailboat: swim in front of the sailboat Paddle boards, jet ski, kayakers and a marine patrol boat in water for assistance/guidance/emergency If you have problems in the swim, call to a kayaker who will get you to a boat (you will DQ if taken aboard), but not DQ if you just hold on, to catch your breath, Swim finish marked by a huge TOUGHMAN inflatable arch and ambulance flashing lights LABEL YOUR WETSUIT WITH YOUR NAME before Race Day. Black wetsuits all look alike in transition Swim cut off is 1 hour 10 mins from when you enter the water.* TRANSITION T1 Carpet and fencing will mark the path from the beach to the transition area Kiddy pools available to wash your feet Volunteers will peel off your wetsuit if you want: lay down on designated area and your wetsuit will be removed (speeds up your T1) Helmets must be buckled before leaving transition Walk or jog with your bike in the transition lanes to the designated Bike Mount area before riding T1 Cutoff is 10 mins after last swimmer exits water Nutrition available: Water, Cola, Gatorade Endurance, Hammer Gels, Endurolytes & bananas September 8, 2013 Athlete Guide
10 Bike The course follows Rte /a for a 28 mile loop that you will do twice This is a totally CLOSED TO TRAFFIC bike course! At 12:10pm (or 5 hours after the last wave started their swim) - the bike cut off is enforced: all remaining cyclists on the bike course will be pulled via a sag vehicle and returned to transition* Follow the volunteer instructions on where to ride out of the park Police and bike marshals will man the course ALWAYS stay to the right to let others pass There will be 1 lead car, plus 1 sweeping sag vehicle Course is well marked with signs, arrows and volunteers Bottle Exchange & portajohns at the 28 mile and 41 mile mark There will be a NO PASS ZONE strictly enforced from mile (the bike path) All USAT rules will be in enforced with USAT officials on motorcycles (see USAT rule summary PDF) 4 bike shops support the bike course that will each cover a 14 mile section Bike cutoff of is 5hrs from your entrance into the swim* Nutrition available: Water and Gatorade Endurance T2 - TRANSITION Walk or jog with your bike from the Dismount line to the transition area There are 7 Athlete-only portojohns inside transition September 8, 2013 Athlete Guide 10

Stay to the RIGHT, unless you are passing. There are some narrow sections with two-way traffic where this will be very important. Slower cyclists need to be aware that there will potentially faster cyclists that will need to pass. Please give them plenty of room to your left. 2. Faster cyclists passing on the left should provide a friendly warning. 3. Earphones are not allowed and illegal per USAT rules. Ossining A 4. No riding 2-3 aside this is a race not a ride. 14 Run Follow cones and arrows at ALL times on the run course and obey all course marshal directions 17 aid stations on the run course Dispose of gel packets and cups near the aid stations (Remember, throwing any trash on the course not designated as an aid station is subject to a USAT penalty) There will be 2 lead cyclists for male and female lead runners There will be portojohns at approx. the 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 11mile marks At mile 1-2 you will run inside the historical Van Cortland Manor You will run up THE TOUGHMAN - the mother of all hills between the -10 mile marks: it will be marked After mile 11 mark, it is all downhill into the finish Over 300 volunteers on the run course will cheer you on and entertainers to keep you motivated Total race cutoff of 8hrs from your entrance into the swim* Nutrition available: Water, Cola, Gatorade Endurance, Hammer Gels and Endurolytes * We reserve the right to remove an athlete from the course and DNF the athlete if our course staff determines that there is no possibility of you finishing the discipline or race before the posted cut-off times based on your location, the time and average speed to that point. 16 Finish Line & Athlete Recovery Zone As you cross the finish line you enter the Athlete Recovery Zone where you get: Finisher s medal Chip removed Post-race snack bag Photos are taken of all athletes crossing the finish line Catchers if you need medical assistance Nutrition available: Water, Gatorade Endurance, bagels, fruit, and bars. TENT (open 5am - 3pm) Tented area at the finish area with tables, chairs, food and drink Wristbands are available on raceday ($30 - cash only); if space available If you purchased a V.I.P. upgrade, your wristbands will be inside your packet AWARDS & BBQ & BEER GARDEN Post race BBQ for all athletes and volunteers will begin at 12:30pm No cost for athletes (incl. in entry fee); $10 per person for others at BBQ entrance (kids under 7 eat free) Awards Ceremony will start at 1:30pm Beer only servered to Athletes and Volunteers over 21, with a valid wristband Beer is not for sale to spectators Overall, age group, and special division awards, feature TOUGHMAN-Oakley Sunglasses, Polar Heartrate Monitors and Timex Watches. Overall top 3 men and 3 women receive: a check for $1,500, $500, and $250 respectively. Overall winners must attend the 1:30pm ceremony in order to receive their check. Nutrition available: Water, Gatorade Endurance, Red Bull, BBQ chicken, baked beans, corn, pasta salad, rolls, chips and veggie burgers. 22 Event Details Spectator Areas 1.2 Mile Swim The swim takes place in one of the most beautiful coves on the Hudson River. The Croton Point Park Beach is a naturaly protected harbor with water temperatures typically in the mid 80s. Each swim wave will adhere to a 1hr 10 minute time limit. Spectators are encouraged to watch from the sea wall on the grass overlooking the beach. 56 Mile Bike Again in 2013, the bike course will be on rte /a for two 28 mile loops. This is a totally CLOSED TO CAR TRAFFIC bike course! The ride takes place all on the southbound side of /a from Briarcliff Manor to Peekskill. See the map details on the right-side for great spectating areas Mile Run The single loop run course travels north through the Croton River Valley until reaching Croton Dam Park. On the return, run across the dam spillway before heading downhill back to Croton Point Park. Watching from within the park our heading out the park exit are great places to watch your athlete finish the bike and start the run. Main Street in Peekskill Main Street, Peekskill Spectator Zone. Spectators will have to park cars and walk to locations, there will be an officer monitoring the on/off ramp. Croton Point Avenue Spectators will need to park at train station or in Park and walk to spectator zones. Bike spectators must utilize the bike path for viewing which is adjacent to the Rt. South on ramp.
