3 The 84th Annual SCYA Midwinter Regatta Notice of Race February 16 & 17, 2013* 1.0 RULES The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, ( RRS ). 2.0 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 2.1 Each entrant must be a member of a yacht club or sailing association belonging to the Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA), US SAILING, or the American Model Yacht Association (AMYA). 2.2 Participating classes are listed in this Notice and include handicap, one-design and model boats. Classes not listed may apply to the SCYA Midwinter Chairman for assignment to a host club. Three entries are required to establish a class. All entrants must be current members of the fleet in which they race. Out of the area boats may obtain a guest handicap certificate from PHRF of Southern California by calling Boats competing in this regatta shall use the ratings applicable to the individual host yacht club s venue where they race. 2.4 Entries can be mailed to the host yacht club, hand delivered there, or submitted on-line if the host yacht club so provides, before the entry deadline specified by each host yacht club. 4 Southern California Yachting Association Organized 1921 Dear Racers: 2013 represents the 84th year that the Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA) has sponsored the SCYA Midwinter Regatta (Midwinter). This event is the largest and most unique regatta in all of North America. The Midwinter will be held at 25 individual SCYA member Clubs and associations stretching from Channel Islands Harbor south to San Diego, and east into Arizona. The event is supported by a host of volunteers making it possible for hundreds of boats with crew numbering in the thousands to participate. There are over 100 classes participating in the 2013 Midwinter Regatta, including one-design, PHRF, cruisers, multi-hull, dinghies (with both inshore and offshore venues), and model boats. These numbers and diversity of classes make the Midwinter Regatta a special racing experience and helps skippers and their crews to prepare for the oncoming racing season. The Midwinter provides an opportunity for individual Yacht Clubs to host specific races and gives sailors from their area the opportunity to race in a combined, quality regional regatta against the best sailors in Southern California and beyond. The goal for the 2013 SCYA Midwinter Regatta Committee is to provide a high level of competition and quality racing for sailors throughout Southern California and Arizona. We plan to make the Midwinter Regatta a truly memorable kick off to the 2013-racing season. By racing in the SCYA Midwinter Regatta, you are supporting the noble cause of SCYA. Some of the proceeds cover host venue costs associated to the race. The majority of the proceeds go to SCYA in directly serving the Southern California and Arizona yachting communities. SCYA s activities include publishing the Annual Race Calendar & Yacht Club Directory, sponsoring boat safety seminars, presenting honor awards to the member clubs and individuals, providing a service center to assist all our member clubs, and to provide a yachting presence to public agencies having influence over the boating community.
