1 39 th NACRA Australian Championships Saturday 30 th December 2017 to Friday 5 th January 2018 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Organising Authority: Jervoise Bay Sailing Club Inc. (JBSC) in conjunction with the Nacra Association of Australia Inc. The notation [DP] in a rule in the SI means that the penalty for a breach of that rule may, at the discretion of the protest committee, be less than disqualification. 1. RULES 1.1. The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing The Prescriptions and Special Regulations Part 2 of Australian Sailing will apply The International NACRA Class Rules as Amended for Australia will apply. 2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS 2.1. Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at the clubhouse. 3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 3.1. Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 0830 on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 1700 on the day before it will take effect. 4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 4.1. Signals made ashore will be displayed on the flag pole in front of the clubhouse When flag AP is displayed ashore, 1 minute is replaced with not less than 30 minutes in race signal AP.

2 5. SCHEDULE OF RACES 5.1. There will be a maximum of 12 races over 5 days There will be no warning signal made after 1300 on Friday 5 th January 2018 unless it follows a general recall. 6. CLASS FLAGS 6.1. Fleet Flag Nacra 350 Miscellaneous (430, 4.5, 14 square) Nacra 16 Square Nacra 5.8 Nacra F18, F16 Pink Nacra flag Green Nacra flag White Nacra flag Blue Nacra flag Orange Nacra flag 6.2. The Miscellaneous Fleet may alter subject to final entries. 7. RACING AREA 7.1. Attachment A shows the location of the racing area.

3 8. THE COURSES 8.1. The diagrams in Attachment B show the courses, including the approximate angle between legs, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left. 9. MARKS 9.1. Marks 1, 4S and 4P will be red inflatable buoys Mark 1a will be an orange flag on a dan buoy Marks 2, 3S and 3P will be orange inflatable buoys The starting mark and finishing mark A will be an orange flag on a dan buoy Finishing mark B will be a blue flag on a dan buoy. 10. THE START Races will be started by using RRS 26 with the warning signal made 5 minutes before the starting signal The starting line will be between the orange flag displayed on the race committee vessel at the starboard end and the starting mark at the port end. A clearance mark may be streamed from the start boat. This clearance mark is deemed to be part of the start boat for the purpose of RRS 31 and shall be passed on the same side as the start boat when starting [DP] Boats whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area during the starting sequence for other races A boat that does not start within 4 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. This changes RRS A4 and A THE FINISH Finishing Line A will be between the orange flag displayed on the race committee vessel at the port end and finishing mark A at the starboard end Finishing Line B will be between the blue flag displayed on the race committee vessel at the port end and finishing mark B at the starboard end. 12. PENALTY SYSTEM For all classes, RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. 13. TIME LIMITS The time limit for the first boat in each race shall be 90 minutes Boats failing to finish within 20 minutes (30 minutes for the Miscellaneous Fleet) after the first boat sails the course and finishes will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing. This changes RRS 35, A4 and A5.

4 14. PROTESTS AND REQUEST FOR REDRESS Protest forms are available at the race office. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the session or the race committee signals no more racing for the session, whichever is later Notices will be posted no later than 60 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the protest room located in the clubhouse beginning at the time posted Notices of protest by the race committee, technical committee or protest committee will be posted to inform boats under RRS 61.1(b) Breaches of SIs 10.3, 16, 18, 19, 20 and 21 will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes RRS 60.1(a) On the last scheduled day of racing a request for redress based on a protest committee decision shall be delivered no later than 30 minutes after the decision was posted. This changes RRS SCORING One (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series When fewer than four (4) races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores When from four (4) to nine (9) races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score When ten (10) or more races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two (2) worst scores Scores for the Miscellaneous Fleet will be calculated using the Australian Sailing 2017/2018 Yardstick for Catamarans. 16. [DP] SAFETY REGULATIONS Check-out / check-in: Competitors will be required to check-out before going on the water and check-in when coming ashore, using the Check-out/Check-in Board next to the boat ramp. Check-out will be open one hour before the first scheduled warning signal of the session or when AP is removed if displayed ashore. Check-in will be open until the end of protest time for that session Competitors shall wear personal flotation devices at all times while afloat, except briefly while changing or adjusting clothing or personal equipment A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee soon as possible. 17. [DP] REPLACEMENT OF CREW OR EQUIPMENT Substitution of competitors will not be allowed without prior written approval of the race committee. Requests for substitution shall be made to the committee on forms available at the race office Substitution of damaged or lost equipment will not be allowed unless authorised by the race committee. Requests for substitution shall be made to the committee at the first reasonable opportunity on forms available at the race office.

5 18. [DP] EVENT ADVERTISING Boats shall display event advertising and bow numbers supplied by the organising authority. Instructions will be supplied with the bow numbers. If this rule is broken, World Sailing Regulation applies. 19. [DP] SUPPORT BOATS Coaches/support boats shall make themselves available at all times while afloat to assist the race committee in the case of an emergency or rescue, as directed in person by the relevant race officer or via VHF radio Unless directed by the race committee, team leaders, coaches and other support persons shall stay outside areas were boats are racing from the time of the preparatory signal for the first fleet to start until all boats have finished or retired or the race committee signals a postponement, general recall or abandonment. 20. [DP] TRASH DISPOSAL Trash may be placed aboard support or official boats. 21. [DP] RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. 22. PRIZES The first crew in each class will be declared the Nacra National Champion Prizes will be awarded to at least the first 3 place getters in each class Minimum 4 entries to form a class. For class s with less than the required number you may be grouped together to form a Miscellaneous Class. The committee may award more prizes at their discretion. 23. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors will participate in the Nacra Australian Championships entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for personal or material damage, injury or death, sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during or after the Nacra Australian Championships. The organizing authority disclaims any and all liability. 24. INSURANCE All boats shall carry public liability to the value of at least $5 Million All competitors who submit the Entry Form are deemed to have made a declaration that they hold such cover.
