What unites us is our desire to create something special. For this we also draw on Michael s deep understanding of sailing and his substantial experience in the industry. His insight is essential as we develop each yacht with unique visions, values, ideas and cultural aspects in mind.

4 6 INNOVATION IS LIMITLESS Michael s career is a story of innovation spanning more than 40 years. His kevlar/carbon fibre constructions took the racing scene by surprise in the early 80s and his fully carbon yacht was probably the first of its kind. By the end of the decade, he had launched Hanse Yachts a production company he nurtured into one of the world s leading yacht manufacturers. Now at Michael Schmidt Yachtbau, he works alongside other experts in the field who contribute their knowledge in diverse areas of the boating business. Our team of boat builders include some who have devoted their careers to series boat production. Others are experienced craftsmen from other fields, transferring their skills in producing customised premium-quality products. These combined strengths enable us to maintain high standards and create the best value for money.

Equipped with overhead cranes, fully climate controlled and dustfree, it allows us to spray paint yachts up to 33 metres long. We also have the capability to temper composite components of this size at a precisely controlled temperature up to 90 C, thereby ensuring maximum strength. Our yachts can be launched next to the boatyard at a pier with a water depth of 6 metres and direct access to the Baltic Sea.

This option and many other niceto-haves are all part of the carefully designed concept of this Tripp 70. We are especially pleased to have been able to develop it together with Bill Tripp, for decades a wellknown name in exclusive yacht design. Bill Tripp founded his design office in 1984, specialising in modern yachts that unite style and comfort with speed and safety. Since the 90s, his yachts have been decorated with numerous international design awards. 25 CUSTOM DIVISION RESEARCH VESSEL Our first custom project is under construction and scheduled for delivery in spring It is a 75-foot Explorer a sailing research vessel commissioned by the Swiss Werner Siemens Foundation. Intended for use by the Max Planck Institute for chemistry and climate research, the 75 Explorer is designed for long-distance sailing. It can accommodate a crew and scientists living on board for extended periods in various climates ranging from tropical to polar. The vessel s strong and durable construction enables it to withstand rough seas and extreme weather conditions. To further enhance its advantages, a parallel hybrid drive will be developed, allowing 8-9 hours of autarkic operation without contaminating the sampling. With the RV Eugen Seibold a small, wind driven research ship is being built as a clean sampling platform to study biogeochemical processes of the ocean and the atmosphere. It can take samples of the oceanic atmosphere worldwide without the disadvantages of diesel contamination. The Eugen Seibold can deliver unparalleled data for highly specific biogeochemical use in ocean and climate 48 Professor Dr. Gerald H. Haug, director of the Max Planck Institute, Mainz, explains: The ocean s surface is the vital interface between the atmosphere and the voluminous deep ocean.
