1 AMERICAN Y-FLYER SAILING ASSOCIATION 2017 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTAS Louisville Sailing Club Prospect, KY July 17 21, 2017 NOTICE OF RACE 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, RRS, for , including the US Sailing Prescriptions. 1.2 The By-Laws of the American Y-Flyer Sailing Association, AYFSA, this Notice Of Race, and the Sailing Instructions for this regatta will apply. 2 ADVERTISING - Advertising shall be in accordance with ISAF Regulation JUNIOR, SENIOR, and CHALLENGER, FLEETS The Regatta will consist of a Junior National Championship Regatta and a Senior National Championship Regatta. Sailing with the Senior National Championship Regatta will be the Challenger Fleet competitors Skippers competing in the Senior National Championship Regatta must register for either the Senior or Challenger Fleet except that a Junior skipper may register for both the Junior Fleet and either the Championship or Challenger Fleet. Skippers may not switch between the Senior and Challenger Fleets after the start of racing on Wednesday July 19, Fleet choice as indicated at Registration, or as changed by hail to the Race Committee before the start of the first race, shall govern for all National Senior Championship and Challenger Fleet races. 3.3 The Senior and Challenger Fleets will race together as a single fleet, but will be scored separately. Both will race on the same course and will start together. 4 FEES 4.1 Required Regatta fees are as follows: Fleet Registration received on or before 07/03/17 after 7/4/2017 Junior Senior Challenger $ 35 $225 $225 $ 50 $250 $ A $5 discount for Senior and Challenger competitors who are US Sailing members and exhibit their US Sailing current membership.

2 5 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 5.1 This Regatta is open to all boats of the Y-Flyer Class which display a AYFSA measurement plaque. 5.2 Skippers and crews in the Junior National Championship shall not have reached their 19th birthday by July 18, Junior competitors may join AYFSA at the Regatta. 5.3 Skippers in the Senior and Challenger Fleets must be Active, Junior, Life, or Honorary 2017 members as listed in the AYFSA 2017 Class Roster. Crews in the Senior and Challenger Fleets must be Active, Associate, Junior, Life, Crew, or Honorary 2017 members of AYFSA and may join AYFSA at the regatta. 5.4 Boats and sails being used in the regatta must be presented for inspection. No more than two (2) suits of sails per boat are permitted. 5.5 Skippers may enter the regatta by completing the attached form and sending it, with the required fee, to:, (see below) or by registering in person at the regatta before the related Competitors Meeting. Advanced registration and payment upon arrival is acceptable as long as the reservation is made by on or before July 3, SCHEDULE All times are Eastern Daylight Savings Time 6.1 Registration at the LSC Clubhouse Sunday Monday Tuesday July 16, 2017 July 17, 2017 July 18, :00 PM 5:00 PM 6.2 Measurement and Inspection: Competitors planning to arrive after the close of Registration on Tuesday, July 18 must contact the Regatta Chairman to arrange a late Measurement and Inspection. Weather conditions may reduce this quantity. No more than three (3) races will be sailed back to back without a shore break. 6.4 The scheduled time of the Warning Signal for the Junior Practice Race is 10:30am. The Warning Signal of the first Junior Fleet race will follow the Practice Race. The Warning Signal of the second day of racing will be at 10:30AM. (Harbor gun at 9:30AM) 6.5 No Junior Fleet race shall start after 3:00PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 if two (2) or more races have been completed. 6.6 The scheduled time of the Warning signal for the Senior and Challenger Practice race is 3:00PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, or following the completion of the Junior Regatta, which ever is later. 6.7 The scheduled time of the first Warning Signal each day for the Senior and Challenger races is 10:30AM. (Harbor gun at 9:30AM) 6.8 No Senior or Challenger Fleet race shall start after 3:00PM on Friday July 21, 2017 if three (3) or more races have been completed.

3 7 MEASUREMENTS 7.1 Each boat shall display a AYFSA/AYFYRA Certification Plaque. 7.2 The following measurements will be taken: boat weight, bands on spars, all new 2017 sails will also be measured. 7.3 Boats will be checked for the safety equipment as required by the Y-Flyer Specifications and Restrictions - e.g.: anchor, chain, warp, life vests, paddle, and bailing bucket SAILING INSTRUCTIONS - The sailing instructions are available on the Class web site and at registration. VENUE Maps will be available at registration that show the location of the LSC harbor and racing area on the Ohio River. THE COURSES - The courses to be sailed will be Windward Leeward, Triangle, Olympic, or modified versions thereof as determined by wind strength and direction. A windward offset and leeward gate may be used. Courses will be identified on the side of the Committee Boat and explained at the Competitors Meeting. 11 SCORING 11.1 The AYFSA scoring system will be as delineated in the AYFSA By-Laws (a) Skippers registered in the Championship and Challenger Fleets will be scored together and will be eligible for Senior Fleet prizes. Skippers registered in the Senior Fleet are scored with but are not eligible for Challenger Fleet prizes. (b) Skippers registered in the Challenger Fleet that do not receive a Nationals regatta trophy will be scored separately and will be eligible for Challenger Fleet prizes (a) Two races are required to be completed to constitute the Junior National Regatta. When fewer than four races have been completed, a Skipper s series score will be the total of all races scored. When four races have been completed, a Skipper s regatta score will be the total of all the races scored excluding the worst score. (b) Three races are required to be completed to constitute the Senior National and Challenger Regatta. When fewer than six (6) races have been completed, a Skipper s regatta score will be the total of all race scores. When six or more races have been completed, a Skipper s regatta score will be the total of all races scored excluding the worst score. 12 RADIO COMMUNICATION - Skippers or crews shall neither make nor receive radio communications while racing. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 13 PRIZES - Prizes will be given as follows: Fleet Skipper trophies Crew trophies Senior Challenger 3 3 Junior DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY - Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta.
