7 Series AK/AKB Safety Instructions These safety instructions are intended to prevent a hazardous situation and/or equipment damae. These instructions indicate the level of potential hazard by labels of "", "" or "Daner". To ensure safety, be sure to observe ISO Note 1), JIS B 70 Note 2) and other safety practices. : Operator error could result in injury or equipment damae. : Operator error could result in serious injury or loss of life. Daner : In extreme conditions, there is a possible result of serious injury or loss of life. Note 1) ISO : Pneumatic fluid power -- Recommendations for the application of equipment to transmission and control systems. Note 2) JIS B 70: Pneumatic system axiom. 1. The compatibility of pneumatic equipment is the responsibility of the person who desins the pneumatic system or decides its specifications. Since the products specified here are used in various operatin conditions, their compatibility for the specific pneumatic system must be based on specifications or after analysis and/or tests to meet your specific requirements. 2. Only trained personnel should operate pneumatically operated machinery and equipment. Compressed air can be danerous if an operator is unfamiliar with it. Assembly, handlin or repair of pneumatic systems should be performed by trained and experienced operators.. Do not service machinery/equipment or attempt to remove components until safety is confirmed. 1. Inspection and maintenance of machinery/equipment should only be performed after confirmation of safe locked-out control positions. 2. When equipment is to be removed, confirm the safety process as mentioned above. Cut the supply pressure for this equipment and exhaust all residual compressed air in the system.. Before machinery/equipment is re-started, take measures to prevent shootin-out of cylinder piston rod, etc. (Bleed air into the system radually to create back-pressure.). Contact SC if the product is to be used in any of the followin conditions: 1. Conditions and environments beyond the iven specifications, or if product is used outdoors. 2. Installation on equipment in conjunction with atomic enery, railway, air naviation, vehicles, medical equipment, food and beveraes, recreation equipment, emerency stop circuits, press applications, or safety equipment.. An application which has the possibility of havin neative effects on people, property, or animals, requirin special safety analysis.

8 Series AK/AKB Check Valve Precautions 1 Be sure to read before handlin. Selection 1. Confirm the specifications. The products appearin in this catalo are desined for use only in compressed air systems (includin vacuum). Do not use outside the specified ranes of pressure, temperature, etc., as this may cause damae or faulty operation. (Refer to specifications.) Consult with SC if fluids other than compressed air (includin vacuum) are to be used. ountin 1. Read the instruction manual carefully. The product should be mounted and operated with a ood understandin of its contents. Also, keep the manual where it can be easily referred to at any time. 2. Ensure space for maintenance. Ensure the necessary space for maintenance activities.. Strictly observe the fastenin of screws and fastenin torque. When mountin, fasten screws with the recommended torque. Air Supply 1. Types of fluid This product is desined for use with compressed air. Consult with SC if a different fluid is to be used. 2. When there is a lare amount of drainae Pressurized air containin a lare amount of drainae may cause the malfunction of pneumatic equipment. An air dryer or Drain Catch should be installed upstream from filters.. Drainae removal If the air filter drains are not flushed reularly, the drainae will flow downstream and this may lead to the malfunction of pneumatic equipment. In cases where the manaement of drain flushin will be difficult, the use of filters with automatic drains is recommended. For details on the qualities of compressed air mentioned above, refer to SC's "Compressed Air Cleanin Systems catalo.. Types of air Do not use compressed air containin chemicals, synthetic oil which includes oranic solvents, salt, corrosive ases, etc., as this may cause damae or faulty malfunction. Pipin 1. Preparation before pipin Before pipin is connected, it should be thorouhly blown out with air (flushin) or washed to remove chips, cuttin oil and other debris from inside the pipe. 2. Wrappin of sealin tape When screwin toether pipes and fittins, etc., be certain that chips from the pipe threads and sealin material do not et inside the pipin. Further, when sealin tape is used, leave 1. to 2 thread rides exposed at the end of the threads. 7

9 Series AK/AKB Check Valve Precautions 2 Be sure to read before handlin. Operatin Environment 1. Do not operate in locations havin an atmosphere of corrosive ases, chemicals, sea water, fresh water or water vapor, or where there will be contact with the same. 2. In locations which receive direct sunliht, the sunliht should be blocked.. Do not operate in locations where vibration or impact occurs.. Do not operate in a location near a heat source where radiated heat will be received. aintenance 1. aintenance should be performed in accordance with procedures in the instruction manual. Improper handlin may cause damae or malfunction of equipment or machinery. 2. aintenance operations Improper handlin of compressed air is danerous. Therefore, in addition to observin the product specifications, replacement of elements and other maintenance activities should be performed by personnel havin sufficient knowlede and experience pertainin to pneumatic equipment.. Drain flushin Drainae should be flushed from air filter and other drains on a reular basis. (Refer to specifications.). Pre-maintenance inspection When removin this product, turn off the electric power, and be certain to shut off the supply pressure and exhaust the compressed air in the system. Proceed only after confirmin that all pressure has been released to the atmosphere.. Post maintenance inspection After installation, repair or reconstruction, reconnect compressed air and electric power, and then perform inspections for proper operation and air leakae. If the sound of air leakae can be heard, or if the equipment does not operate properly, stop operation and confirm that it is mounted correctly.. Disassembly and alteration prohibited Do not disassemble the unit or make any alterations to it.

10 Series AK/AKB Specific Product Precautions 1 Be sure to read before handlin. Refer to paes throuh for safety instructions and precautions. Selection 1. Cannot be used as a check valve when zero leakae is required. A certain amount of leakae is allowed in the product's specifications. 1. Do not use in a location where connection threads or tube connectin sections will slide or turn. 2. Use tubin within its minimum bend radius. Usin at less than the minimum bend radius can cause breakin or flattenin of the tubin.. Do not use for as, as fuels and refrierants, etc., which are combustible, explosive or poisonous.. Confirm whether PTFE can be used. PTFE (tetrafluoroethylene resin) powder is contained in the sealin materials. Confirm that this will not cause operatin problems. Operatin Environment 1. Do not use in locations where static electric chares will be a problem. This can cause malfunction or failure of the system. 2. Except for the bushin type: AKB, do not use in locations where spatter is enerated. There is a daner of fire occurin if spatter sticks to synthetic resin parts.. Except for the bushin type: AKB, do not use in environments where there will be direct contact with liquids such as cuttin oil, lubricatin oil or coolant oil. Contact SC reardin operation in this kind of environment. aintenance 1. Check for the followin durin reular maintenance, and replace components as necessary. a) Scratches, oues, abrasion, corrosion b) Air leakae c) Twistin, flattenin or distortion of tubin d) ardenin, deterioration or softness of tubin 2. Do not repair or patch the replaced tubin or fittins for reuse. ountin 1. Confirm the model and size, etc. before mountin. Also, confirm that the product has no scratches, oues or cracks, etc. 2. Confirm the flow direction of a check valve when mountin. Confirm the free flow direction with the JIS symbol which is displayed on the body.. When connectin tubin, make allowances for chanes in the lenth of the tubin, etc. due to pressure.. Do not allow tubin and fittins to be subjected to distortion, twistin, pullin or moment loads, etc. This can cause damae to fittins, and crushin, burstin or disconnection of tubin, etc.. Do not allow tubin to be worn, twisted or scratched. This can cause crushin, burstin or disconnection of the tubin, etc.. When connectin pipin and fittins, etc., be careful that chips from the pipe threads and sealin material do not et inside. Also, when sealin tape is used, leave about 2 thread rides uncovered at the end of the pipe. Expose about 2 threads Windin direction Sealin tape 7. When connectin taper pipe threads, tihten the wrench flats on the body with a suitable wrench. Damae can be caused if any other area is used. 9

When usin other than SC brand tubes, confirm that the followin specifications are satisfied with respect to the outside diameter tolerance of the tube. 1) Nylon tube within ±0.1mm 2) Soft nylon tube within ±0.1mm ) Polyurethane tube within +0.1mm within 0.2mm Do not use tubes which do not meet these outside diameter tolerances. It may not be possible to connect them, or they may cause other trouble, such as air leakae or the tube pullin out after connection. Precautions for One-Touch Fittins Attachin and Detachin Tubes to One-Touch Fittins 1. Attachin of tube q Take a tube havin no flaws on its periphery and cut it off at a riht anle. When cuttin the tube, use tube cutters TK-1, 2 or. Do not use pinchers, nippers or scissors, etc. The tube miht be cut diaonally or flattened, makin installation impossible or causin problems such as disconnection of the tube after installation or air leakae. Allow some extra lenth in the tube. w Grasp the tube and push it in slowly, insertin it securely all the way into the fittin. e After insertin the tube, pull on it lihtly to confirm that it will not come out. If it is not installed securely all the way into the fittin, this can cause problems such as air leakae or the tube pullin out. 2. Detachin of tube q Push in the release bushin sufficiently, and push the collar equally at the same time. w Pull out the tube while holdin down the release bushin so that it does not come out. If the release bushin is not pressed down sufficiently, there will be increased bite on the tube and it will become more difficult to pull it out. e When the removed tube is to be used aain, usin the chewed portion of the tube as it is can cause problems such as air leakae or difficulty in removin the tube. Tihtenin Torque 1. The proper torque for connectin pipe fittins is shown in the table below. As a rule, this is equivalent to 2 or turns with a tool after tihtenin by hand. Be careful of damae due to over tihtenin. When usin miniature pipe fittins, tihten by an additional turn after hand tihtenin. Further, in cases such as a universal elbow or universal tee which have askets in 2 locations, the additional tihtenin is doubled to turn. ale thread Proper tihtenin torque (N m) /2-UNF 1/ turn after hand tihtenin 7 to 9 12 to to 2 to 0
