1 ABSORPTION & RETENTION Skill Number HAZO 1 Objective: 5.4.3, The candidate shall be provided with a leaking drum, buckets, pads or pigs, and dry absorbent. 2. Identify the product to the candidate. The candidate given a leaking drum, an identified product, and the proper tools shall perform proper absorption and retention procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Applies bucket to hold the initial runoff of the product. 5. Applies pads or pigs to avoid any further runoff of the product. 6. Uses dry powder absorbent, pads or pigs to absorb the initial runoff.

2 DAMMING Skill Number HAZO 2 Objective: 5.4.3, The candidate shall be provided with a ditch or culvert with water flowing through it. 2. The candidate shall be provided with dirt or a damming substance and a shovel. The candidate given a spill of an identified product heavier than water flowing into a culvert or ditch and the proper tools shall perform proper damming procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Chooses the appropriate type of dam to be utilized (overflow dam). 5. Applies dirt or damming substance at the further most point in the ditch to avoid contact. 6. Controls excessive runoff.

3 DIVERSION & DIKING Skill Number HAZO 3 Objective: 5.4.3, The candidate shall be provided with dirt and a shovel or tarps, pigs or pads. The candidate given a leaking container of a product that has been identified and the proper tools shall perform diversion and diking procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Places the appropriate barrier in advance of the spill. 5. Applies the appropriate barrier at the appropriate angle to divert the spill to the appropriate area. 6. Constructs a circle or V shaped dike to contain the product in the area. 7. Applies tarps, pigs or pads to contain possible runoff. Candidate must complete 7 steps to pass objective.

4 DILUTION Skill Number HAZO 4 Objective: 5.4.3, The candidate shall be provided with tarps, pigs or pads, or dry containment and a water source. The candidate given a leaking drum of a non water reactive product that has been identified and the proper tools shall perform dilution procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Places the appropriate retaining structure or barrier in advance of the spill (tarps, pads or pigs, or dry containment). 5. Adds water to the product to dilute. 6. Controls runoff.

5 VAPOR DISPERSION Skill Number HAZO 5 Objective: 5.4.3, The candidate shall be provided with tarps, pigs or pads, or dry containment and a charged hoseline with a fog nozzle. The candidate given a leaking drum of an identified gaseous product that is non water reactive and the proper tools shall perform vapor dispersion procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Places the appropriate retaining structure or barrier in advance of the spill (tarps, pads or pigs, or dry containment). 5. Applies a dispersed water fog to the product to disperse the vapor. 6. Controls runoff.

6 VAPOR SUPPRESSION Skill Number HAZO 6 Objective: 5.4.3, The candidate shall be provided with tarps, pigs or pads, or dry containment. 3. The candidate shall be provided with a charged hoseline with a foam or fog nozzle, eductor and foam concentrate. 4. The candidate shall be given the instructions below before beginning the exercise. The candidate given an identified dumped liquid product that is non water reactive and the proper tools shall perform vapor suppression procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Places the appropriate retaining structure or barrier in advance of the spill (tarps, pads or pigs, or dry containment). 5. Applies a dispersed water fog to the product to suppress the vapor. 6. Controls runoff.

7 EMERGENCY DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES Skill Number HAZO 7 Objective: 5.4.1, The candidate shall be provided with tarps, pigs or pads, or dry containment. 3. The candidate shall be provided with ladders and pike poles. 4. The candidate shall be given the instructions below before beginning the exercise. The candidate given established control zones, proper identification of the product and the proper tools shall perform emergency decontamination procedures with 100% accuracy. 3. Establishes the defined boundaries for the appropriate zone to set the emergency decontamination site.. 4. Places the appropriate retaining barriers around the site for runoff. 5. Sets up overpack barrel. 6. Sets up access to large quantities of water. 7. Instructs victims to remove themselves from the contaminated area. 8. Immediately washes all body parts with flooding quantities of water. 9. Has conscious victims disrobe. 10. Removes victims to clean area. 11. Administers the appropriate first aid and contact the appropriate medical personnel. 12. Avoids secondary contamination. 13. Sends victims for medical treatment as soon as emergency decontamination is completed. Candidate must complete 13 steps to pass objective.
