Classes F-AM Courage to Be Safe/Everyone Goes Home - This course is a provocative and moving presentation by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, through the Everyone Goes Home Program, that is designed to change the culture of accepting the loss of firefighters as a normal occurrence. DURATION. ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. ALICE provides options for those under attack to make decisions for their own personal safety in order to survive an active shooter incident. Instructor Robert J. Triage using SALT, START and JumpSTART will be discussed with hands-on practice. FULL Structural PPE or Extrication PPE with Eye Protection Required. Instructors Carter Lesmann & Cody Bruns (Burlington, ND) F Flashover Simulator/Live Fire Training F Firefighter Survival/RIT Students will be introduced to firefighter survival terminology, firefighter fatality case study recommendations and techniques for developing firefighter survival attitude. Personal Flotation Device (Lifejacket) Required. Instructor Matt Burtz (Pierre FD) F Tactical Capabilities Workshop One day exercise picks up where ICS200 leaves off and tests specific emergency response issues using a tactical diorama and other stimulus. Instructors Pat Gerdes & Todd Manns with The Blue Cell, LLC F Grain Bin Rescue F Structure Live Burn Simulator/Live Fire Training F Live Fire Training/Fire Fighter Skills & Technique Training Short classroom safety session followed by hands on training using the Mobile Live Fire Training Unit (Propane Fired). Students will practice skills and gain confidence in PPE, SCBA, Hose Handling, Nozzle Techniques, Fire Attack, Ventilation and More. Any students needing to fulfill the Live Fire Training portion of the SD FF Certification Card should bring it to class. FULL Structural PPE and SCBA required. Spare SCBA cylinders would be a plus as students will consume a great deal of air. 6 Fri. & Sat. 16hr Two Day Classes Structural Firefighting Essentials/Hands on Training This will be an entirely hands on class covering ESSENTIAL firefighting skills. Students will work with SCBA, Ladders and cover ventilation techniques, victim rescues and hose/nozzle work. Firefighters currently taking a Certification Course should bring the Yellow Card as many of the hands on practical requirements can be signed off. FULL Structural PPE and SCBA are required. Instructors Lance Enright & Joe Tjaden (Rapid Valley FD & Rapid City FD) NFA (National Fire Academy) - Fire Investigation: First Responders F This two-day course is designed specifically to provide a clear definition of the role of first responders in fire investigation and provide essential knowledge to enable them to recognize the potential of intentionally set fires, preservation and protection of evidence, and proper reporting of information to appropriate officials. By strengthening the partnership between first responders and investigators, the chances for successfully solving arson-related crimes will increase. The course includes topics such as fire behavior, critical observations of the first responder, fire causes, scene security and evidence preservation, legal considerations, and documentation of findings. This course is designed for all fire and emergency services personnel who might conduct preliminary investigations into the origin and cause of fires. Interested students are encouraged to complete "Initial Fire Investigation for First Responders" (Q0379), available through NFA Online at prior to participating in this classroom-based course. Selection criteria Fire and emergency services personnel who respond to fires or might conduct preliminary investigations into the origin and cause of fires. Prerequisites 1. Incident Command System (ICS)-100-level and ICS-200-level training. Preferred courses are Q0462 and Q0463, available through NFA Online at Chief's signature attests that the applicant has completed this required training. 2. Interested students are encouraged to complete Q0379, available through NFA Online at prior to participating in this classroombased course.
