1 SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2017 YORK COUNTY CHIEFS ASSOCIATION IS PROUD TO PRESENT THE 44TH ANNUAL FIRE & EMS TRAINING SCHOOL The York County Chiefs Association 44th Annual Fire & EMS Training School will be held on September 23 & 24, This year, the school will be held in various locations within the towns of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Lyman, and Saco. There are 11 courses listed in the brochure, dates, times, the location address is highlighted and noted with each specific course description. Brochure/Registration Form can be also downloaded at: Please note that several of the courses have prerequisites and/or equipment needs, so be sure to read the full detailed descriptions and requirements. *PPE means full protection equipment; *SCBA means air pack and spare cylinder that meets standard; and the student has to have met the respiratory requirements of a Medical Clearance and FIT TEST. Students must be at least 18 years of age. REGISTRATION: A separate registration form must be completed for each applicant. Registration deadline is September 15. A confirmation letter will be sent directly to the student. Please note that some courses have a minimum enrollment requirement. If the course does not meet the minimum, you will be notified and asked if you would like to attend a different course. 2 SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 23, DAY COURSES 1.01 Water Rescue Technician $225 EMS / Fire / Lifeguards Course Time: 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Location: Kennebunkport Village Fire Dept., 32 North Street, Kennebunkport This 1-day course is open to Fire, Rescue, EMS, Police and Lifeguard personnel. Classroom is 4.5-hours; then 4.5 hours practical water sessions in the ocean at Colony Beach till 6:00 p.m. *Lunch and drinks will be provided for the day! Gear: Participants responsible for their own PPE: gloves, wetsuit or swiftwater dry suit, rigid-sole footgear (i.e. wetsuit booties, tennis shoes or water shoes). Lifesaving Resources, LLC. will provide each participant with Type V Rescue Life Jacket, Helmet, and Guidebook. Note: Wetsuits can be rented from Aquaholics in Kennebunk, and Liquid Dreams in Wells. Pre-requisites: To participate in the Water Rescue Technician course participants must be in good physical condition and must be comfortable in deep water while wearing a lifejacket. After you register, you will receive a confirmation packet from Lifesaving Resources, LLC. with further instructions, and pre-requisite reading, etc. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a course completion Certificate valid for 5 years. Course Meets / Exceeds NFPA 1670 for Technical Rescue. Instructor: Gerald Dworkin, Lifesaving Resources, LLC ALS Skills $ 75 EMS Location: Kennebunk Town Hall Auditorium, 1 Summer Street, Kennebunk One day program dedicated to reviewing the following ALS skills: Advanced Airway-Intubation/BIADS; Advanced Airway-Chest Decompression/Surgical Airway; IV Pump Operations, IV/IO; Adult Megacode; and Pediatric Megacode. 3 SATURDAY & SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 23 & 24, DAY COURSES 2.01 Aerial Ladder Operations $150 FIRE Location: West Kennebunk Fire Dept., 80 Thompson Road, West Kennebunk A two day course designed for new aerial ladder officers, operators, or for veteran operators looking for a refresher in the proper operation of an aerial device. Classroom and practical application sessions include apparatus and Aerial operations, ladder operations, safety, inspection, spotting, setting, proper and improper use of the aerial ladder. Day 1: Classroom and hands-on apparatus familiarization. Day 2: To include roll-ups and setups to buildings; and flowing water through an aerial ladder. Requirement: PPE & Traffic Safety Vest. Apparatus driving experience is required. Instructor: Michael Fraser, Lieutenant Waterboro FD 2.02 Advanced Extrication On the Fly! $150 FIRE Location: COPARTS, 136 Kennebunk Pond Road, Lyman (Go directly to COPARTS both days.) This extensive course will be a full hands-on advanced extrication course, no classroom. Students participating need to have had basic extrication training with some experience in using hand tools, hydraulic tools, e-tools, stabilization equipment and air bags. This course focuses on realistic training evolutions that will challenge the mental and physical abilities of the most seasoned Firefighters! Saturday morning begins with an overview of safety operations of all equipment; then reviews basic extrication and stabilization via scenarios. The course moves into advance techniques for stabilization, disentanglement and extrication of patients with vehicles on their roofs and sides; under-ride and over-ride evolutions; tunneling; lifting and stabilization with air bags and hydro-fusion struts. Advanced techniques in stabilization, rigging, lifting and extrication will be covered throughout the course. Overall, the evolutions you do are intended to challenge your skills in complex scenarios. 4 SATURDAY & SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 23 & 24, DAY COURSES 2.03 Commanding Initial Fire Attack $150 FIRE Location: Kennebunk Town Hall, 3rd Floor, 1 Summer Street, Kennebunk Program utilizes visual fire simulation techniques that allows Fire Officers and Senior Firefighters a chance to apply techniques of Size Up and Initial Reports; identify fire conditions upon arrival; predict fire travel; conduct a Risk/Benefit Analysis; choose operational modes; assign initial fire control companies, and do resource evaluation. The program will focus on the following points. Pre-Incident Preparation: Command Coaching, Crew Resource Management, Fire Service Changes, Operational Leadership, Strategy & Tactics, NIMS, ICS, Fire Ground Command. Commanding the Initial Fire Attack: Initial Arrival Reports, Apparatus Placement, Size Up, Eight Fire Ground Factors, RECEO, Risk / Benefit Analysis, Predicting Fire Travel, Reading Smoke, Operational Modes, Incident Priorities, Making Operational Assignments, Evaluation of Resources, and Incident Termination. Lead Instructor: David Hamel, Lieutenant Saco FD 2.04 Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC/AVOC) $150 FIRE / EMS Course Times: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Location: Kennebunk Fire Dept., 1 Summer Street, Kennebunk For all Fire and EMS personnel! This 16-hour USDOT curriculum-based program meets the new BLS Certification guidelines. It also meets the MEMS criteria effective January 2007 for all rescue drivers, and is approved by Volunteer Fireman's Insurance Services (VFIS). Day 1 - Classroom: Students learn the principles of safe emergency response, motor vehicle laws, emergency vehicle dynamics and physical forces, personal readiness, operational awareness and scene safety. Course covers firefighter and EMT injury-fatality data, liability protection, inspection, and maintenance. Day 2 - Driving: Competency-based course will be at Maine Turnpike Garage, 150 Fletcher Street, Kennebunk. Instructor: Robert Poulin MFSI 2.05 Got Big Water - Rural Water Supply Ops $150 FIRE Course Time: 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Location: First Day ~ Saco Fire Dept., 271 North Street, Saco Second Day ~ West Kennebunk Fire Dept., 80 Thompson Road, Kennebunk (white building) This 16-hour Rural Water Supply Operation will consist of a classroom session covering the full scope of delivering water in the non-hydrant setting. Day 1 includes practical set ups and operations for fill sites and dump sites. Day 2 begins with two subgroups switching skill stations then completing a practical exercise. Then the afternoon will be dedicated to a 2-hour ISO water supply drill; where you will try to run a tanker shuttle uninterrupted for 2 hours! Objectives: Water supply ops; set ups; off-loading water; travel routes; traffic management; ISO delivery rate test. Requirement: Full PPE Apparatus: Need all we can get! 5 SATURDAY & SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 23 & 24, DAY COURSE 2.06 Swiftwater Rescue Technician $395 EMS / FIRE / LIFEGUARD Location: Kennebunkport Village Fire Dept., 32 North Street, Kennebunkport *Lunch and drinks provided both days! Day 1: Saturday 8:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. A comprehensive and fast-paced 2 day program consisting of the Water Rescue Technician course on Day 1; with the second day dedicated exclusively to dynamic water conditions, conducted entirely in a moving water environment. 4.5 hours classroom session, then 4.5 hours practical water sessions in the ocean at Colony Beach. Day 2: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Practical sessions at Saco River off Water Street, Saco. Gear Requirements: Participants must provide their own wetsuit or swiftwater rescue dry suit, gloves, rigid footgear (i.e. wetsuit booties, tennis shoes or water shoes). Lifesaving Resources will provide Type V Rescue Life Jacket and Helmet, and Guidebook for each participant. Note: Wetsuits may be rented from Aquaholics in Kennebunk, and Liquid Dreams in Wells. Pre-requisites: To participate in this course, participants must be strong swimmers and must be able to pass the pre-requisite swim test identified within the course description for this class found on Lifesaving Resources website. After you have register, you will receive a confirmation packet from Lifesaving Resources, LLC with further instructions, and pre-requisite reading material. Course Meets / Exceeds NFPA 1670 for Swiftwater. Technical Rescue. Students receive Insignia and course completion Certificate valid for 5 years. Instructor: Gerald Dworkin, Lifesaving Resources, LLC FRIDAY NIGHT, SATURDAY & SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER , DAY COURSES 3.01 Art of Fire Extinguishment with Water ~ Engine Company Basics...And Beyond $150 FIRE Course Time: Friday Night: 6:00 p.m.-9:00p.m. & Saturday/Sunday: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Location: Washington Hose Fire Dept., 159 Port Road, Kennebunk & Ogunquit Training Facility If you can t put it out with the first 100 gallons, you won t put it out with the next 900. This program is designed for engine company firefighters. We will offer firefighters the opportunity to either sharpen their current skills, or learn new efficient skills for the all-important task of getting water on the fire. This is an intensive hands-on program, and includes opportunities to select and evaluate a variety of differing hose loads and line advancement techniques. This course is designed to provide personnel with an evening lecture on Basic Engine Company operations and two days of hands-on skills and scenario-based evolutions under live smoke and fire conditions. The course includes hose line deployment, hose line advancement (1st floor, over ladders, rope raises, staircase advances), and nozzle practical. We will discuss some of the more common mistakes made by Engine Companies and ways to prevent them. Prerequisite: ME BLS Basic FF /or Firefighter I /or FF I & II levels Requirements: Full PPE & 2 SCBA Bottles Instructors: New England FOOLS 3.02 Basic Pump Operator Course $150 FIRE Class Time Starts: Friday night 6:00 p.m. / Saturday & Sunday 8:00 a.m. Location: West Kennebunk FD, 80 Thompson Road, Kennebunk (20 Hours) This course replaces the original Pumps I program and includes new required elements. It is a 2-1/2 day course that includes the use of foam; spotting apparatus; pumping from tanks and hydrants; relief valve setting; and pumping from draft. There will be hands-on experience involving the principles of hydraulics, and operations of fire department pumpers moving up to 500 GPM of water.
