Happy Belated Father s Day to all you Dads out there. We hope you got to grill and fish and even scuba dive. If not come see us and we can fix that. As long as you didn t get any ties or socks it was a bonus day. :-) We have been busy so far this summer, Rich went to the Mighty O, David took a group to Flower Gardens, Nancy just returned from Cobalt Coast on Grand Cayman and we are on the way to a new site down near Burnet in central Texas. Never a dull moment at IS. Our new Dive Master candidates are chomping at the bit to work with you whether fun diving or training. So come on out.! We still have Bonaire in July, hope to have Cozumel Labor Day, Cozumel Fun Fest in October and looking for plans for Where are we going? For some reason the idea of pushing far beyond the limits of skin diving or snorkeling to explore what is at depth captures the imaginations of non-divers. And to be perfectly frank, it captures our imaginations as divers - it's part of why we dive. It's why we asked "how deep can I go?" during our open water class and it's why our instructor's joked about the "scuba police" coming to enforce depth limits. While it is true that there is great diving at depths shallower than 60 feet, there are some dive sites or wrecks that will require you to go deeper if you are going to experience them. And that is why Deep Diver is our Specialty of the month. The Deep Diver Specialty will teach you the skills you need to plan and safely dive depths beyond 60 feet. You will learn to plan for the more rapid use of air and No Decompression Time that goes with deep diving. You will become more aware of the effects of nitrogen narcosis for both you and your buddy. You will see first hand the way that certain colors disappear at depth and the benefits of a carrying a light for exploring or a strobe on your camera for getting the best pictures. You'll learn to plan for longer safety stops, and you'll develop a plan for emergency decompression if you accidentally exceed your limits. You'll begin to consider redundancies and you will pick up some useful experience that will make you a better, more prepared diver. And for those who are considering becoming technical divers (because one tank isn't enough) the Deep Specialty is the foundational prerequisite for Tech 40, the first of the Tech Deep classes. When you come in to sign up for the deep specialty, check out the BUD back up computer by Oceanic. It's a fully functional nitrox computer for $329 that will allow you to safely finish your deep dive if your personal or rental dive computer fails.

Training Corner The first IDC in St Croix for us is in the books with 3 new OWSI and 2 new IDC Staff instructors! Woohoo! Looking forward to going back for a September program. Interested in taking your IDC but want to leave town to concentrate totally on the course and have a little extra fun, call or stop by so we can fill you in on the great locations we are now teaching with. In Roatan we work with Mayan Divers at the Mayan Princess Resort on West Bay. Anja and her group are fantastic. In St. Croix we work with Cane Bay Scuba on the north side where the best shore diving exists. There are cottages on property or houses for rent just down the road. Suzanne is building a great program. If you want to stay local then visit us at Lone Star Ft. Worth or here in Carrollton at International Scuba. We can offer just about any style program you need whether it is day time or evening or a combination. On our next program locally we will be offering an IDC prep course that will work on skills, validate dive theory, and introduce teaching techniques. Will be done in 2-3 evenings after work. PADI Instructors are highly sought after in resorts around the world. If you have more talents on your CV/Resume the better off your are.
