2 The Madagascar Water Project The Well Maintenance and Community Organization Trip is a semi-annual event where key PESM-The Madagascar Water Project personnel inspect all wells and work with the local communities to manage their wells. The goals are as follows: Well Maintenance & Repairs Meet with the well management committee and key maintenance personnel and review maintenance and repair records; Inspect each well, perform routine maintenance, and make repairs if needed; Flow test each well; Record key well information Provide training for well maintenance and repairs Community Involvement Obtain demographic information: number and origin of users, destination of water, purpose and uses of water; Evaluate existence and structure of the Well Management Personnel and/or Committee. Compile a list of key well personnel and ensure they have contact information for PESM; Emphasize the importance of proper management. Interview users and compile a list of concerns Hygiene Training Raise awareness of hygiene and sanitation and demonstrate the role of the water well in developing improvements; Encourage the development of water to achieve higher health standard Conduct meetings to discuss personal hygiene and related health issues
