1 Northeastern School District January 20, 2017 Jordan Lemen, a junior at Northeastern High School, is currently participating in the Future Leaders of York program through the Leadership York organization. Future Leaders of York is a 7-month program that helps high school sophomores and juniors become lifelong, responsible, active participants in their hometown community. This week, Dr. Sidle got to join Jordan at a luncheon with other school leaders from across York County. The students had the opportunity to share their experiences in the FLY program and to ask the administrators questions about their home districts and other education related topics. Thank you to Leadership York for providing this opportunity for students and congratulations to Jordan for his success! Seniors Delaney Zinn and Emily Kennedy are proud to display some pieces of their independent artwork from the first semester at the Administration Center. Both participate in art club/nahs and plan on minoring in art next year when they attend college. They have work presently on display at Creative York West and in national scholastic competitions as well. Please enjoy their work during the months of January and February!

2 Children from Orendorf Elementary School had a Giving Tree" collection at the School. The children and their families were very generous collecting toothpaste, soap, wash cloths and other personal care items. Below is a sampling of what was donated to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. Here are some kids enjoying the spaghetti and meatballs prepared by the York Haven Child Nutrition Staff. Emily Gault, Feminist Studies Club President, presenting a $200 check, personal care items, clothing, diapers, formula and toys to ACCESS YORK. The club had been raising funds during the fall with bake sales, and asking for school and community donations.

3 NHS Dramatics will present the hit musical Sister Act as this year's musical. Starring senior Shayna Dozier as Deloris, the story reflects the movie made famous by Whoopee Goldberg. Deloris witnesses a murder and is in danger. She must be hidden by the police and they choose a Convent where she must pretend to be a Nun to stay safe. She is part of the choir and turns it from boring to brilliant. The Nuns singing becomes famous and Deloris is found by the Bad Guys. You'll have to come see what happens in the end!!! The show is February 24, 25 & 26 at NHS. Ticket order forms will be coming out very soon. Watch for yours to come home from school!!!

4 As the second marking period concluded, so did the Aquatic Fitness classes, ending with a second attempt at the 12 minute Cooper Swim Assessment. Students put up some impressive numbers beginning with a new record for most widths ever swum in 12 minutes by Drew Wilson who swam 79 widths. Drew was followed by Zach Hersh with a count of 41. On the girl s side Alexis Moffa swam a strong 61 widths followed by Mackenzie Jenkins with 37. The greatest increases seen in period ½ were Lizbeth Perez who improved by 9 widths and Maddie Kepner who improved by 7 widths. Isaac Leiphart improved by an impressive 16 widths and Xavier Bowman added 12 to his first swim. Period 3 also gutted it out with Jared Furst tying with Maddie Graham swimming the most of the class with 40 widths followed closely by Aiden Wyble with 39 and Cailey Shimko with 37. Highest increases in widths were done by Jason Yin who improved by 10, Cheyne Main improving by 8 and Nadia Mitrovich improving by 6. Bravo to all who took part in challenging their bodies and working to improve their fitness levels and swimming efficiency throughout the second marking period. Cooper 12 minute swim assessment top performing participants, Drew Wilson & Alexis Moffa Mrs. Kowalewski and Mr. Schaeberle would like to commend the 49 students who completed the written test and coursework necessary to earn their lifetime PA Fish & Boat Commission Boating Safety Education Certificates. This certification will allow these students to legally drive a Personal Water Craft (Jet Ski, Ski Doo, etc.) and boats with a greater than 25 horsepower motor. We were thrilled that every student in Aquatics Classes periods ½ & 3 proficiently completed the necessary requirements for this certification. Happy Safe Boating!! 5 How do you celebrate success? By coming together and sharing a tasty meal complete with celebratory cake! SFI staff enjoyed a luncheon in their honor for all the hard work, efforts, and care needed to achieve such an impressive honor! SFI staff we are proud of you! Thanks for everything!

6 Second and Third graders from all four elementary schools make up Brownie Troop The girls wanted to help keep others warm this winter. They cut and fringed 66 fleece scarves at a recent meeting to donate to the homeless shelters in York. Some of the scarves were bundled with hot chocolate for kids, others will go to the women's and men's shelters. They also donated 9 blankets.
