BOBCAT PRiDE Northeastern School District February 13, 2015 The Keystone State Figure Skating Championships were held at the York City Ice Arena this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Between two and three hundred figure skaters from across Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware came to compete in both United Sates Figure Skating Association and the Ice Skating Institute events. Eighth grade student, Erica Zielinski competed in two USFSA events and two ISI events. We are thrilled to share her results: 4 Gold Medals! Students at SBI raised $3000.0!! The class who raised the most won the opportunity to turn me into a human sundae. Additionally, they also won NE beanie hats.
Kids who have mastered skills in class are asked to be part of an Enrichment group. Mrs. Kehler has found time for two periods a cycle in her schedule to have these students work with her to find out more about topics that are related to class. The students use research skills to gather information on a topic and then present it to others sharing their knowledge. This happens for grade 1-3 presently. As many as ten students from each grade participate in this. Some of the topics researched are ants and the value they have to humans, the Lake Texcoco in Mexico. Bobcats Care Northeastern Middle/High will hold a Wear Red event on February 13 th Rusty McCollum Mt Wolf ELC will hold Jump starting February 26 Nick Donnelly Conewago Elem will hold Jump in April Dave Zirkle York Haven Elem will hold Jump in April Nick Donnelly/Dave Zirkle Orendorf Elem will hold Jump the week of February 2 (they already have $1,005 raised online!) 3 With a week to go, there are plenty of seats available. Please call to place reservations. Mailing orders after today is not a good idea since the mail doesn't go every day. Any tickets ordered after today will be held at the door for pick up to avoid mailing delays. The Latshaw Family has Two Munchkins and a Scarecrow!! Izzy (left) and Kira (right) play Munchkins and join brother Jonah as the Scarecrow in the upcoming production of The Wizard of OZ.

York Haven PTO Bingo had a wonderful night (despite the weather) recently. Families came out to play bingo and have fun with friends. There were door prizes on top of the regular bingo winnings handed out this evening and everyone went home with a prize. 2nd graders at Mt. Wolf Elementary had fun and learned a lot during the Byrnes Health Education Center's lesson, Way to Grow. Students learned about how their digestive system works and healthy eating choices to keep their bodies working efficiently.
Wake Up with AR! Mt. Wolf Elementary School's 1st-3rd graders can come to school early one day each month to get some extra reading practice and take a few Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes. Thanks to the PTO volunteers who keep this event running smoothly. Reading is the BEST way to start the day! The January 2015 ARLO Students of the Month for Northeastern Senior High School are Kirsten Pizzino and Christopher Wickline. ARLO stands for ACHIEVEMENT. RESPECT. LEADERSHIP. OPPORTUNITY. Each month two seniors are selected who best personify these qualities.
Fox 43 Sports Broadcaster and district parent, Todd Sadowski and his NHS freshman daughter Emma are hosting a morning news feature on Fox 43, "Teenwork." Their first story from this week highlighted Northeastern freshman Sam Shroyer, and her father, Asst. Chief Mark Shroyer who both volunteer with Eagle Fire Company. We are proud of everyone involved in this story! This link shows the news story. NHS Seniors completed senior projects and presentations this week! Congratulations to all the seniors who are able to cross this task of their lists! Staff saw many amazing presentations! We are proud of the class of 2015! Sophomore Kiara Brown was recently honored at the African/African-American Love Feast and Recognition Dinner. We are proud of Kiara! This link directs you to the YDR article about the event. Elementary Art teacher Keri Wright has changed hats of a sort. Instead of teaching children art she is teaching adults (teachers from NESD) after school. Keri works with adults in small groups and teaches them basics and they all have a great time doing it as well as making great art.
