1 Northeastern School District February 16, 2018 This week the third graders at Orendorf held an Olympic Celebration event. The students were split into 8 countries including Norway, France, South Korea, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Jamaica, and the USA. We kicked off the event with a parade where each country held their flag and cheered while other students came to watch. There were multiple Olympic events the students competed in including curling, skiing, bobsled, and hockey. These events have been practiced in P.E. with Mrs. Marhevka, and some, such as hockey, were new. Awesome teamwork and effort were shown by all!

2 Students toured the Starbuck s Coffee Transportation division on January 24th. Students in Miss Felegi's class made a Volume City to show their knowledge of finding the volume of a rectangular prism! Our hallways are turning into Winter Wonderlands at Conewago, Mount Wolf, and York Haven! Winners of the NMS Dodgeball tournament. All proceeds benefitted the American Heart Association.

3 Northeastern High School s TRU club recently explained the negative effects of tobacco in presentations to all 6th graders. York Haven's Perfect Attendance for the 2nd Marking Period.

4 On February 13, students in Madame Hickey's French classes celebrated Mardi Gras and learned about various ways it is celebrated in the French-speaking world. They enjoyed eating King Cake too. These students found the "baby" in the cake and are said to have good luck in the coming year as well as being King or Queen for the day: Nicholas Cogswell, James Rouscher, Emily Dellinger, Amanda Rizzo, Nicolette DuBose, Braelyn Delle, and Isatou Sawaneh. 5 Valentine's Day fun at Conewago!

6 Members of the Bobcat community volunteered to do mock interviews with Dr. Ward's Personal Finance students this week. Students left class with constructive feedback to help them create positive interview experiences in the future. Valentine s Day Fun at York Haven Elementary!

7 With the gracious financial help from the PTO, all Shallow Brook 5th graders will be running a mock business for a day this March at Junior Achievement's BizTown. During our visit to BizTown, each child will assume a job for the day, produce & sell goods or services, receive a paycheck, work as part of a business team, manage business finances & repay business loans, and manage their own personal bank account. The first step to getting their job, of course, is the application and interview. Several local business professionals, Northeastern School Board Members, our Assistant Superintendent, Northeastern High School staff, and other local leaders acted as our interviewers for the day. Our SBI 5th graders impressed the interview panel with their intelligence, grace, and professionalism. Mr. Dennis Mansberger, an Account Executive with Quicken Loans who served as an interviewer, remarked that he was so impressed he wished he could hire some of our students right now!

Recently York Haven second graders learned about digestion and energy.

Miss Jenn from York County Solid Waste Authority taught students how waste is turned into energy.

To celebrate Valentine's Day and our love for Conewago, each student was given a heart.

We placed all of their hearts in our vestibule so that everyone can see why Conewago is the place to be.

I learn a lot. I do tests and I love it. I read books. I get books at the library.

8 Recently York Haven second graders learned about digestion and energy. Miss Holly from Byrnes Health Education Center taught about healthy food choices and the digestive system. Miss Jenn from York County Solid Waste Authority taught students how waste is turned into energy. Both events were informative and enjoyable for the students. To celebrate Valentine's Day and our love for Conewago, each student was given a heart. They were asked to write why they love Conewago on it. We placed all of their hearts in our vestibule so that everyone can see why Conewago is the place to be. The following was written by a second grade child about her favorite place... 1/10/18 My favorite place is school. I learn a lot. I do tests and I love it. I read books. I get books at the library. My book was about cats and dogs. I paint in art and I love it. I paint crafts. I love gym and I love all games. I feel happy when I go to school.
