3 Event Information Wade Meaney Event Coordinator Registration Registration this year has moved from Bindarra Reserve to the beach in front of the Brighton SLSC. Toilets Toilets and change facilities are located within the Brighton SLSC. Additional public toilets are located next to the playground in Bindarra Reserve. Rubbish Additional general waste and recycling bins have been provided around the competition venue. Please ensure you use the bins provided to dispose of all rubbish. Its important that we leave the area as we found it.

4 Event Information Medical First aid and emergency medical services for this event will be jointly provided by Aquatic Rescue Management and Brighton SLSC. Two qualified paramedics will be onsite during the event. First aid and emergency medical services will be located within the first aid marquee on the beach. A permanent first aid room is located near the change rooms at the Brighton SLSC. Use of Drones Due to safety concerns personal drones cannot be used within the competition venue. Westpac 1 will be in attendance. Its schedule is on a needs basis across the SA coastline and cannot be forecast. As such no drones may be used at any time during the event. We appreciate your cooperation. Accreditation Athlete accreditation can be collected from the registration marquee on Brighton Beach (note change of location in 2019). Accreditation will re-open tomorrow morning.

5 Event Information ASADA ASADA have been notified about the event. If they are in attendance they will be located in an office within the Brighton SLSC. Medals Medals will be awarded to 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place getters for all championship events. In events where there is more than one age group, medals will be awarded in each age group. Visitors medals (should a visitor place) will be awarded in addition to Australian 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd. Presentations will take place after the medal winners have been confirmed and all competitors in that event have completed the course. Presentations will take place on the beach next to the race entry/exit marquee.

Water will be available for athletes at the race entry/exit and first aid marquee upon exiting the water. For lost property, please approach event staff at the competition management office (within the Brighton SLSC). Race results will be displayed at the registration marquee on Brighton Beach in front of the Brighton SLSC. Live Results will be available on the SAL website and Meet Mobile. Please be aware that it takes some time before the results are received from the timing provider so your patience is greatly appreciated. Please ensure that you use the pedestrian crossings when moving between the SLSC and the beach.

9 Contingency Plan In the event Brighton Beach is unable to hold the event due to circumstances out of SALs control, West Lakes Rowing Centre has been identified as the backup venue Should the decision be made to move to the contingency venue, SAL will notify clubs via to club contacts and on social media. Updated location information will also be posted on the Swimming Australia website.

16 Team Selection Adam Pine - GM Paralympic and Open Water Programs Fina OWS World Championships Australian Team Selection; A top four finish in the Adelaide 10km will secure funding to attend the FINA World Swim Series in Doha on 16 Feb. Following the Doha World Cup event, the highest four (on points) in the Doha 10km will secure funding to attend the FINA World Swim Series in Seychelles on 12 May. The points awarded for both the men s and women s races at each World Series Qualifying Event based on the athletes overall finishing position: 1 st 20 points 6 th 10 points 2 nd 18 points 7 th 8 points 3 rd 16 points 8 th 6 points 4 th 14 points 9 th 4 points 5 th 12 points 10 th 3 points Highest ranked Australian if no Top 10 finishers 2 points

17 Team Selection Fina OWS World Championships Australian Team Selection Following the Doha and Seychelles World Swim Series events, the highest two (on points and national results) will be selected to the Australian swim team to compete in the Fina World Championships Australian team for the 10km. Following the Doha and Seychelles World Swim Series events, the third and fourth highest (on points and national results) will be selected to the Australian swim team to compete in the Fina World Championships Australian team for the 5km event. For the avoidance of doubt, all Australian athletes entered into the FINA Marathon Swim World Series Qualifying Events are eligible to accrue points towards qualification for the FINA World Championships Open Water team.

18 Team Selection Australian Junior OWS Team Selection The first-place finisher in the Adelaide years 7.5km event will be selected to the Australian Junior team tour to France in May. The first-place finisher in the Adelaide years 10km event be selected to the Australian Junior team tour to France in May.

19 Technical Information Karen Macleod SAL Technical Manager The event will be conducted under SAL Open Water Swimming Championship Rules and By-Laws (updated 2017) Prior to the commencement each day a Coach is required to attend the water temperature check with the Chief Referee. This will take place at approximately 6.45am each morning. The Chief Referee, Coach and an Organising Committee member will meet at the athlete Race Entry / Exit and will take the water temperature. Could we please ask for 3 coaches (one for each day) to volunteer to attend the water temperature check each morning at 6.45am The temperature will be published on the information boards located at the entrance to the jetty, at the Brighton SLSC, the Swimming Australia marquee and the registration marquee (both on the beach).

20 Electronic Timing Athletes will be provided with two timing transponders and two velcro bands when they register for their event.athletes are required to wear a velcro band with a timing transponder around each wrist at all times during the race. The timing transponder will record the athletes time as they hit the finish gate. Failure to complete the race with at least one timing transponder will result in disqualification from that event. Should a swimmer lose a timing transponder, they are to notify the on-water Referees. The Referees will make sure a replacement is given to them Athletes are required to hand their timing transponder to the Clerk of Course at the conclusion of the race. Failure to return the timing transponder will incur a fee. The velcro bands and timing transponders are hired to the event and remain the property of the timing contractors (Tomato Timing).

21 Pre Race Briefings There will be a compulsory pre-race briefing for all competitors prior to each event. Athlete briefings will take place in the briefing marquee 20 mins prior to the start of each event. Coaches and feeders are encouraged to join athletes at briefings. All instructions concerning the course, water conditions, and other relevant matters will be detailed by the Race Referee at this time. The Chief Referee at the briefing will provide full directions of the course.

22 General All jewellery is to be removed prior to registrations, including body piercings. Finger and toe nails, (including Acrylic nails) are to cut down with no sharp edges. Swimsuits will be inspected at registration to ensure correct suits are being worn. Athlete accreditation is required at registration. Athletes must also bring their accreditation when marshalled. Athletes are to hand their accreditation to the Technical Official in the role of Clerk of Course before they enter the water. Athletes must collect their pass when they exit the water at the conclusion of the race or warm up. No escort craft is permitted for any events. Water cover will be provided by Brighton SLSC throughout the event.

23 Race Finish In all events time limits apply as follows: from the finish time of the first athlete in the respective age group,15 minutes per 5km (or part thereof). Upon finishing, athletes are to immediately return to shore back through the race entry/exit point. In the event of abandonment of the race, please advise your athletes that once they have left the water they must make their way back to the entry point and remain there until their accreditation is returned to them. We need to make sure everyone is accounted for. If an athlete withdraws or fails to complete the designated course for any reason, they must report in person to the Medical Personnel for examination. After release from the medical area, athletes must report in person to the Clerk of Course to have their competitor number recorded. This process is mandatory - please do not leave the area without reporting to the Clerk of Course.

24 Wetsuit Guidelines Wetsuit use for this event will be as per the FINA regulations for open water swimming competitions. The following principles will apply: Water temperature 20 C or above, wetsuits cannot be worn Water temperature below 20 C and above 18 C, wetsuits may be worn Water temperature 18 C or below, wetsuits must be worn In line with the Swimming Australia Open Water Championships By-Laws, wetsuits are swimsuits made of material providing thermal insulation. Wetsuits for both men and women shall completely cover the torso, back, shoulders and knees and shall not extend beyond the neck, wrists or ankles. The thickness of material/s used shall be a minimum 3mm and maximum 5mm. In addition, the outer surface of the wetsuit shall not include outstanding shapes, such as ridges or fins.

25 Swimsuit Guidelines No zippers or other fastening devices are allowed except for a waist tie on traditional swimsuits Suits must be of textile material and must not contain any non textile material such as polyurethane or neoprene Open Water swimwear, for both Men and Women, shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below the ankle.

26 Competition Elements Hannah Sidebottom Event Manager 10km and 7.5km Events The designated feeding area is the pontoon on the southern side of the Brighton Jetty. This area will be the only place on the course where a athletes may be fed. Each athlete is allowed one (1) Feeder Feeders are to report to the registration tent with their athlete and bring their feeding poles on the morning of their race. The feeding poles will be inspected by the Technical Officials. Feeders are to collect their wrist band at the registration area to allow them access to the pontoon. Feeders must complete the feeder indemnity form. Wrist bands will not be provided to anyone who has not completed the form. Spare forms will be available at the completion of this meeting.

27 10km and 7.5km Events Feeders will be transported to the pontoon with the assistance of the Brighton SLSC. Feeders are to report to the race entry/exit point 30 minutes prior to the scheduled race start (7:00am sharp Events 1-2, 9:55am Events 3-4, 12:55pm Events 5-6) All athletes are responsible for organising their own feeders. No objects can be thrown from the feeding platform to the athletes, including sustenance. Athletes must receive their feeding directly from their representative by a feeding pole or by hand. Feeding poles are not to exceed 5m in length when extended. No objects, rope or wire may hang off the end of feeding poles except flags. The athlete s ID and club is permitted to be attached to the feeding pole but must not exceed the size of 30cm x 20 cm and must not contain any advertising.

28 5km Time Trial The start time for each athlete will be set at 10 second intervals. Numbered starting positions will be marked out on the pontoon. Each athlete will line up on the pontoon and start in the water by holding onto the rail with one hand (no push off). The starter will commence the start with take your marks followed by a whistle, this will be repeated for each athlete. If there is a withdrawal, the field below the withdrawn athlete will move up to fill the gap The order for the time trial races will be drawn at random, after this meeting. We ask that a coach remain with SAL staff members to verify that the draw was completed at random and without bias.

29 5km Time Trial If an athlete wishes to withdraw they/their manager must formally notify Liz Avery of the withdrawal before the end of the final race the day before (Sunday 27 January). In the instance the athlete does not report to the start for their assigned start time the schedule will continue without them. The athlete will be considered a no-show and will not be able to swim in the event. 5km TT athletes are to report to the race entry/exit point 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start for transport to the pontoon.

30 Relays Positioning on the pontoon will be as per the teams competitor number (tattoo) which have been assigned at random. Teams (all 4 athletes) must report to the athlete entry/exit 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start for marshalling. Relay team name sheets must to be lodged following the same process as a pool event. Team sheets are available from the registration marquee on the beach in front of the Brighton SLSC. They must be returned to Liz Avery by the end of competition on Sunday 27 January. Only the 4th athlete will wear timing transponders, please ensure this person is nominated on your relay form. Only athletes and officials will be allowed access to the pontoon. All Relay only swimmers must have registered online to receive accreditation. Any swimmers who have not registered online will be ineligible to compete in relays.

31 Relays The first athlete will start in water at the start line. Athletes 2, 3 & 4 will start in the water by holding onto the pontoon with one hand (no push off). Due to capacity limits on the pontoon, the 2nd athlete from each team will swim out and take their position on the pontoon at the direction of the Clerk of Course. Upon finishing the 1st leg, athlete 1 will immediately return to shore and athlete 3 will swim out to the pontoon. Once the 2nd athlete returns to shore, the 4th athlete will swim out and take their position on the pontoon. For change overs the next athlete will enter the water and hold onto the pontoon with one hand, holding out the other for a high five style change over. The elbow of the athletes during change over must be above the surface of the water. Each athlete will complete a lap of 1.25km.
