1 ROTHAMSTED TENNIS CLUB The Club welcomes old and new members of all grades of experience and asks all members to encourage their family and friends, inside and outside Rothamsted, to join. The 4 courts are for the use of Tennis Club members only. Membership tags should be worn on tennis shoes. To protect the court surfaces, it is essential that proper tennis shoes with non-marking soles are worn. SUBSCRIPTIONS for 12 months from 1 April 2018 All Tennis Club Members must also be members of the Rothamsted Sports and Social Club (RSSC) or the children of members. The subscriptions include RSSC subscription, which is 10 for staff family and external members and 5 for juniors (under 18). RSSC visitor's membership) Visitors (see below) Adult 3.00 Junior 1.00 Visiting coaches 8.00 *first time staff members and their family can join for half price (for one season), but family members must pay the full RSSC subscription: the reduced rate for staff is 17.50, partners and juniors 10; first time Rothamsted students can join for free (for one season), but MUST complete an application form; Charge per court per hour or part thereof for each session. All members are asked to return the attached form to the Tennis Club Treasurer, Rothamsted Research, AL5 2JQ as soon as possible, indicating whether you are willing to play for the men s team and which tournaments you wish to enter. It is important that internal members pay their subscriptions promptly because their number determines the number of external members allowed. 1

2 VISITORS Friends introduced by members may play occasionally (no more than five times). Members are responsible for paying visitors fees to a committee member. CLUB SESSIONS Tuesday and Thursday evenings (4 courts) from 5.30 pm onwards, starting 10 April. All members welcome. The bar will usually be open. Members are welcome to bring their own food and use the kitchen facilities if required. Prospective members may attend one club session without paying a visitor s fee provided they contact a member of the committee beforehand. The Men s team captain can reserve one court for team practice on either day. MATCH FIXTURES 2018 Team fixtures for 2018 are attached and will be placed on the Tennis Club notice board in the Pavilion. Please note that some courts will not be available if there are home matches. TOURNAMENTS Only paid-up members of the Tennis Club are eligible to play in club tournaments SINGLES The singles tournament is open to all members (male and female) and will start in early June. It will be played during the following months with finals played before the end of the season. Entry lists compiled from members' forms will be put up on the Pavilion notice board in mid May. DOUBLES RUSSELL CUP Partners for the mixed doubles tournament for the Russell Cup will be drawn on Tuesday 19 June. The tournament will be played during the following five weeks, with the finals on Saturday 4 August during the Club s Centennial celebration. The entry list compiled from members' forms will be put on the Pavilion notice board in mid June. If there are too many of one sex, priority will be given according to the date of receipt of membership forms. MAGAN CUP This will be played on a Sunday in August. Members will be informed by . ALAN MUDD BOWL This will be awarded to the winners of an American Tournament to be played on Sunday 30 September. 2

3 COACHING Coaching for members of all standards (including juniors) is available by arrangement with our LTA coach, Graham Moores BALLS Tennis balls are provided for club members and are kept in the Pavilion walk-in cupboard. Practice balls and some new balls will be placed in the grey bin on court 1 (Any problems, please contact a member of the committee). AFTER USE PLEASE RETURN BALLS TO THE CUPBOARD OR BIN FROM WHICH THEY WERE OBTAINED Combination padlocks are fitted to the gates of the courts. The combinations will be changed on Thursday 5 April and will be supplied on receipt of a tennis club subscription. WIMBLEDON TICKETS Club members who have joined British Tennis [ and have opted in for tickets on the British Tennis website are eligible to enter the ballot for tickets. A notice advertising the allocation will be sent to eligible members by in late March. The draw will be made at a club night in early May. Payment will be collected by British Tennis, which will send out the tickets to winners. SOCIAL EVENTS This year the Club will celebrate its centenary and will mark this occasion with a celebratory event on Saturday 4 August. This will include a hog roast, the final of the Russell Cup and an American tennis tournament. The American Tournament on Sunday 30 September will be followed by an end-of-season supper. A quiz evening will be held in the autumn. Details of these events will be sent to members by . 3
