INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Becoming an OVR Coach Attack Stat Sheet Serve Receive Stat Sheet Point Diary The OVR V O L U M E I V, I S S U E Becoming an OVR Coach To coach for any club in the Ohio valley Region, there are a number of things that you must do before you can legally coach in any practices or matches. FIRST: All head and assistant coaches must be members in good standing with the OVR. For returning coaches, go to Renewing-Adult-Member- Affiliated-with-Juniors.pdf for more details. For new coaches this season, go to Member-Affiliated-with- Juniors.pdf SECOND: Head coaches are required to be years old or older and have a cleared background screen on file with the OVR. Assistant coaches may be under the age of, but many never be alone with junior players at any time. If an assistant coach becomes years old during the season, he or she must immediately stop coaching and get a cleared background screen on file before continuing coaching in any capacity in practices and matches. Additionally, an assistant coach under the age of may never take the place of the head coach during any match. THIRD: The Ohio Return to Play Law enacted in April 0 requires all coaches to be trained in the identification of concussions. There are several ways to receive this training and/ or submit proof of training. The Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit fulfills the requirements of the law and must be renewed every three years. All junior high and high school coaches in Ohio are already required to have this certification and is most often paid for by their school. The next way to become concussion certified is to go through a specific training. The NFHS and CDC both offer online training. You can find out more about these opportunities at concussion. FOURTH: All head and assistant coaches must also be either USA Volleyball IMPACT or CAP certified to be eligible to coach. IMPACT (Increased Mastery and Professional Application of Coaching Theory) is a -hour course for the new club coach. Emphasis is on drill development, principals of learning skills, resources, and ethics. There are several ways to N O V E M B E R 0 become indoor IMPACT certified either through online or inperson clinics. Online opportunities take the form of either on-demand and livepresentation webinars through USA Volleyball. Live inperson IMPACT clinics are held throughout the region from December through March. Clinics will be posted throughout the month of November and December, so check the OVR schedule often at impact_clinics.php. Though both online and live clinics will get you IMPACT certified, there are several significant differences of which you should be aware. The cheapest and easiest option is a live regional clinic; cost is $0 and to be certified you only have to attend the entire hour clinic. Online clinics cost between $0 and $0, take about hours to attend the class and then you have to pass a 00-question test within weeks of the class to become certified.
