Johnson Center Thursday, November 5 7 p.m. MT Live Stats: bit.ly/unmvbstats115 Live Stream: bit.ly/watchunmvb New Mexico volleyball continues its four-game homestand with one of its biggest challenges of the year as it faces Wyoming and No. 15 Colorado State this week in Johnson Center. UNM, currently sitting fourth in the league with a overall record and 7-4 MW record, hosts the third-place Cowgirls (18-6, 8-4 MW) on Thursday and the MW-leading Rams (19-3, 12-0) on Saturday. This week presents two of the best opportunities for New Mexico to make a move in the conference. Just 1.5 games separates UNM from second-place Boise State in the MW, and picking up both matches could put the Lobos in second by Saturday night. New Mexico has won five of its last six matches, a run that started after it was swept in the first matches against both Wyoming and CSU this year. Since then, UNM has regrouped and retooled, moving from 2-3 in the MW to 7-4. The Lobos defense has been the key in this recent run, as they ve held their last six opponents to sub-.200 hitting percentages. UNM was especially effective last week, as it smothered both Air Force (.018 hitting percentage) and San José State (.078) to open its homestand. New Mexico is at home all-time vs. Wyoming, and is 6-2 in Albuquerque under head coach Jeff Nelson. UNM is at home all-time vs. CSU, winning last in Johnson moves to second all-time in career assists Hannah Johnson opened the 2015 campaign with 3,023 career assists through her first three years playing at New Mexico, good for sixth in program history New Mexico volleyball 1 New Mexico (14-10) vs. Wyoming (18-6) New Mexico (14-10) vs. Colorado State (19-3) Albuquerque, N.M. Subsequently Johnson, a redshirt senior from Longview, Wash., has made substantial moves in the Lobo record book, passing Janelle Torres ( , 3,794 assists) for second all-time. Only All-American Jade Michaelsen ( , 4,174) has more career assists than Johnson. With seven games remaining in her final season, Johnson has a chance to surpass Michaelsen by season s end. At her current career rate of 8.81 assists per set (and assuming just the minimum of threeset matches for the Lobos last seven matches) Johnson will finish right around 4,077 career assists. In order to tie Michaelsen, Johnson will need to play 32 more sets in her last seven matches at her career average of 8.81 assists per set. Gullatt going Skye High in the record book Skye Gullatt is also ascending the all-time Lobo record books, moving up in the top-10 in career block assists, block solos and total blocks. During the 2015 season, Gullatt has moved up to third all-time in career total blocks, with 430. She s 35 behind the UNM career leader, Chelsea Sondrup ( , 465 total blocks), but just five out of second place. Gullatt also owns the third-best career total in block assists with 358. Sondrup also leads that category with 433 block assists. Gullatt also moved into seventh place all-time in block solos with her performance vs. Nevada on Oct. 22. She now owns 72 career block solo. Gullatt only needs only 5 more to move into the top five (where she d pass her current assistant Pauline Manser), and nine more solos gets her into fourth place.

UNM is overall, having won five of its last six. One of the Lobos strengths lie on the outside, as UNM brings back All-Mountain West players Cassie House and Julia Warren, along with a rapidly improving Devanne Sours. Sours leads the team in kills and aces, and is one of the top offensive producers in the conference. Returning for UNM is two-time All-MW setter Hannah Johnson and middle blockers Simone Henderson and Skye Gullatt. UNM has also solidified their libero position with Ashley Kelsey, who is joined by Marisa Doran, Stephanie Chavez and Mercedes Pacheco in the back row. Head coach Jeff Nelson s team is young defensively, but has versatility and experience offensively. Maintaining intensity and continuing to play strong back-row defense to go with consistent outside offense is key. Players to Watch Devanne Sours, Jr., OH 268 kills, 25 service aces, 156 digs Hannah Johnson, RS Sr., S 869 assists, 233 digs Julia Warren, Jr., OH/L 198 kills, team-high 240 digs Scouting Wyoming After a rocky road trip left them 6-4 in the Mountain West, Wyoming rebounded last week, sweeping both its opponents in Laramie. But the Cowgirls, who lead the NCAA in total blocks, are just 2-5 in true road games. Still one of the top teams in the MW (UW beat now-no. 9 Ohio State in August), the Cowgirls look to Kayla Slofkiss (230 kills), Laura Beach (219) and Bridget Shanahan (205) for offense, and Allison Waldvogel (398 digs), Reed Copeland (141 blocks) for defense. Copeland, a true freshman, is second in the NCAA in total blocks. UW is solid defensively, but does struggle on offense. They re sixth in the MW in hitting percentage, and 10th (out of 11) in both kills and assists. Series vs. Wyoming New Mexico dropped the first match this year vs. Wyoming, and is all-time against the Cowgirls. Since UNM head coach Jeff Nelson arrived in 2007, the Lobos are 10-8 vs. Wyoming, but just 3-7 since 2011 Players to Watch Reed Copeland, 6-2, Fr., MB 141 blocks (18 BS, 123 BA), 102 kills Allison Waldvogel, 5-7, Sr., DS 398 digs, 18 aces Bridget Shanahan, 6-2, Sr., OH/MB 205 kills, 46 digs Scouting Colorado State Colorado State has won 12 of the 16 regular-season titles in the MW, and this year is no different. CSU is nationally ranked (15th in the AVCA Coaches Poll), riding a 13-match win streak to a 19-3 record and No. 35 RPI. Alex Reid leads the team with 231 kills, while preseason MW player of the year Adrianna Culbert is second with 199. Double-double (and one-time quadruple-double) machine Culbert (399 assists) helps set up the Rams offense with Crystal Young (455). Jaime Colaizzi has 306 digs for Colorado State, while the Rams look to Acacia Andrews (98 total blocks) and Alex Poletto (77) on the block. CSU leads the MW in hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage and digs. Series vs. Colorado State Colorado State has dominated the series vs. New Mexico, winning 36 of the last 40 matches between the two schools. Overall, the Rams lead the all-time series UNM has won twice at home since 2010, however. Players to Watch Adriana Culbert, 5-10, Sr., OPP/OH 199 kills, 22 aces, 399 ast., 182 digs Alex Reid, 5-11, Sr., OH 231 kills, 211 digs Acacia Andrews, 6-5, RS Jr., MB 154 kills, 98 total blocks 2015 New Mexico volleyball 3

Redondo Dr. NE & Stanford Dr. SE News and notes Gullatt is also right around the top 10 in career hitting percentage, as her career.274 success rate (475 kills, 161 errors, 1146 attempts) puts her.003 percent from No. 10. Johnson in reach of 3rd-straight season of top-10 assists Along with her campaign to capture the program record in career assists, Hannah Johnson has a shot to claim her third-straight season of more than 1,000 assists. She s only 131 from that plateau with seven games remaining. If she reaches 1,081, she d also log the 10thmost assists in a single season in program history. She s done it each of the last two years (1,220 assists in 2013 and 1,157 last year), and if she accomplished that, she d become the only Lobos to ever have three seasons ranking in the top-10 all-time at UNM. Two more for another record? With seven matches left in the season, two Lobos are knocking on the door for some superlative seasons. Hannah Johnson and Simone Henderson are both currently sitting in the top-10 in the single-season record for hitting percentage, with Johnson ranking first (.387 hitting percentage) and Henderson tied for fifth (.350). Current assistant coach Pauline Manser owns four of the top seven single-season performances:.385 in 1991,.365 in 1990,.362 in 1989 and.347 in top-100 Lobos New Mexico s three seniors, Hannah Johnson, Skye Gullatt and Simone Henderson, are all ranked in the top-100 in the NCAA in a handful of statistical categories. Gullatt, a senior middle blocker, is 39th in the NCAA in blocks per set (1.28) and 52nd in total blocks (106). She s fourth in the Mountain West in blocks/set. Johnson, a redshirt senior setter, is 96th in the nation in assists per set (.988) and 92nd in total assists (869). She s second in the MW in total assists. Henderson is also nationally ranked, with the 86th-best hitting percentage (.350) that s also good for fifth in the MW. the Skye s the limit Senior Skye Gullatt has been a consistent performer for the Lobos over her four years in Albuquerque. That was proven early in her UNM career as she tallied 12 kills vs. Southern in her first weekend with the Lobos. But since that outburst as a youthful freshman with just two games under her belt at the time, she never collected 12 kills again. Until Sept. 5, Over three years after setting her career best in kills, Gullatt equaled that vs. SMU, tallying 12 kills against the Mustangs. It then took all of six weeks for her to match that personal record, as she nabbed 12 kills vs. UNLV on Oct. 17. Once they get on a roll... New Mexico has been sensational when winning the first sets of a match, including a 13-4 record when capturing the first set. The Lobos are also 12-2 when winning the second frame, and are 10-2 when claiming the third frame. On the flip side, UNM is just 1-6 when losing the first set (the win came against Idaho State in a five-set, come-from-behind win), 2-8 when losing the second and 4-7 when losing the third. Sours Powers Devanne Sours emergence as one of the Lobos top offensive weapons is no new story. She s the team leader in kills (with 268) and aces (with 25) and ranks ninth in the Mountain West in both kill/ set and points/set. She continued to lead the Lobos vs. San José State on October 3, as she tallied 15 kills on 28 attempts with no errors for a.536 hitting percentage. That performance was a career high and marked the first time a New Mexico outside hitter hit over.500 this season. However, her performance was also good for a few other notables: It s just the fourth time since the start of the 2012 season that a UNM outside hitter has hit over.530 in a match. It is the first errorless game by a UNM player (min. 10 kills) since Chantale Riddle went at SJSU on Sept. 25, 2014 It is also the first errorless game with 25+ attempts since Chantale Riddle went vs. UC Riverside on Sept Stuffed Through the Lobos first 11 Mountain West matches, Skye Gullatt has been a menace at the net. She s stuffed a total of 60 blocks (with a conference-leading 12 solos) in those matches, good for 1.58 a set. That average is fourth in the conference in MW play. Her three block solos vs. Nevada on Sept. 26 (which she matched against UNLV on Oct. 17) also ranks among the top in the conference, and she s teamed up for seven total block twice in MW matches. She tallied 8 total blocks vs. Air Force on Oct. 27, her best of the season New Mexico volleyball 4

Skye Gullatt had another splendid day of shot denial against San José State on October 3 as she registered 7 block assists for the Lobos. However, she was joined by Cassie House on net patrol, as House smothered 5 block assists (to tie a career high) and 2 solos (to tie another career high) for 7 total blocks (an outright career high). Together, the duo marked the first time since Oct. 25, 2014, that two Lobos had at least seven total blocks in a match. (The opponent, as in this match, was San José State.) Dikembe Mutombo would be proud of this blocking New Mexico blocked 14 balls against San José State on October 3, which is the third-most blocked by a team in a three-set match in the Mountain West this season.
