During a very busy weekend at the Ferrell Center, Baylor Athletics will host five home events starting Thursday, Nov. 3: women s basketball vs. Kentucky, men s basketball vs. Wichita State and the NCAA volleyball first and second rounds. The Bears are seeded for the first time in the NCAA Tournament, garnering the No. 2 overall seed. Coming in at No. 8 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, the Bears are playing in their th consecutive match as a ranked team. The Bears are ranked for the 28th time in program history. The No. 8 ranking is a season high mark for the 27 squad. The 27 Bears are the first Baylor team since 29 to make an appearance in the poll. During that season, BU was ranked for straight weeks and peaked at No. 7, which still stands as the programhigh ranking in the 35-year history of the AVCA poll. Baylor has recorded wins over four ranked opponents this season, besting then-no. BYU in five sets on Sept. 9, sweeping then-no. 2 Iowa State in Ames on Oct. 4, sweeping then-no. 9 Iowa State in Waco on Nov. 4 and most recently taking down then-no. Kansas in straight sets on Nov.. Baylor is the second-highest ranked Big 2 team behind No. 2 Texas. This is the seventh-straight week that the Bears are ranked under third-year head coach Ryan McGuyre. As a ranked team, the Bears are 8-2 this season and have only lost to then-no. Kansas and No. 2 Texas. 5

7 Quick Hits (continued) BAYLOR WELL REPRESENTED ON ALL-BIG 2 TEAMS Head coach Ryan McGuyre and five Baylor volleyball players earned a program-best nine Big 2 postseason honors, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. In his third season with the Bears, McGuyre was voted the Big 2 Coach of the Year as he led Baylor to its highest conference finish in program history with a 3-3 record. Under his guidance, Baylor has collected three-straight winning seasons which include two consecutive 2-win seasons for the first time since McGuyre collects the program s first Coach of the Year award. For just the second time in program history, Baylor volleyball has the Big 2 Freshman of the Year in Yossiana Pressley. Splitting time at opposite and outside hitter during her first season in Waco, Pressley led the conference in kills per set (4.37) and points per set (4.85) and posted 7 double-digit kill matches this season. She is the first freshman in league history to lead the Big 2 in both of those categories. Pressley, Shelly Fanning and Katie Staiger all landed spots on the All-Big 2 First Team. A unanimous pick for the second consecutive year, Staiger is the sixth player in program history to earn multiple first team honors. Fanning earns her second All-Big 2 honor after being named to the All-Freshman Team in 25. Pressley was also a unanimous pick to the first team. On the All-Big 2 Second Team is Aniah Philo and Hannah Lockin. Both players earn their first postseason awards after leading the team in service aces and assists, respectively. Finally, Lockin and Pressley were named to the Big 2 All-Freshman Team. They are the sixth and seventh freshmen to be named to the list. HOME COURT ADVANTAGE With an 2-3 home record, Baylor looks to match its highest home win mark in program history. Baylor went 3- during the 999 campaign. BU s 2 home victories are the most since 28. The Bears have yet to play a five-set match at the Ferrell Center this season, defeating six opponents in straight sets and six in four sets. BU s three home losses came to ranked teams this season (then-no. 5 Florida St., then-no. Kansas, No. 2 Texas). Baylor is currently 33-2 in home matches under third-year head coach Ryan McGuyre. CHASING HISTORY...ONE MATCH AT A TIME Already experiencing several of the program s firsts this weekend, Baylor volleyball looks to secure the program s second NCAA Sweet 6 appearance and first since 29. The Bears look to match the most wins since 29 with a victory over Miami (OH) Friday night (24 wins). BAYLOR RECENTLY One day before the bracket was revealed, 8th-ranked Baylor pushed No. 2 Texas to brink but couldn t quite pull off the upset in the 3- loss last Saturday at the Ferrell Center. Behind the 4th-largest crowd to watch a volleyball match at the Ferrell (2,979), the Bears were aided by 23 kills from Yossiana Pressley. She added a career-high 3 digs for the double-double. Baylor had five players with service aces against the Longhorns. Aniah Philo (2 kills, 4 digs) & Hannah Lockin (4 assists, digs) also recorded double-doubles. TEAM NOTABLES Baylor recorded its best regular season finish since 999 (23-6). Coming into Saturday s match, Baylor is ninth-best in the NCAA in kills per set (4.58) and th in assists per set (3.68). Baylor has won at least 2 matches in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the seasons. Last year s team finished at BU won 6 consecutive sets in Big 2 play, one shy of tying a program record set in 29 (7). BU won 8 of its last 2 matches dating back to Sept. 9. With the best conference finish in school history in the books, McGuyre was named the Big 2 Coach of the Year for the program s first coaching honor. Last season, McGuyre trained and sculpted the program s third All-American and first to land on one of the three 4-member teams, Katie Staiger. He watched Staiger break Baylor s single-season kills record and record the second-most kills in Big 2 history. Despite two starters missing all season due to injury and losing a starter during the team s conference opener, McGuyre led his team to a 2-win season and the program s second-straight winning season for the first time since 2-2. In 25, McGuyre saw immediate improvements in his first season at the helm of the program, finishing 7-3 overall to give Baylor its first winning season in three years. McGuyre has coached at the collegiate level for both men and women since 999 including head-coaching stints at California Baptist (CBU) and Biola University. As associate head coach for two seasons, McGuyre and the Florida State Seminoles finished a 24 NCAA Tournament run reaching the Sweet 6 before a loss to national runner-up, BYU. Prior to his arrival at Florida State, McGuyre was an assistant at Maryland for one season following a -year head coaching stint at CBU from There, he was the head coach for both the men s and women s programs, and he crafted a men s program that won six NAIA national championships (24, 5, 6, 7,, ) and three women s national titles (24, 5, ). Among many accolades at CBU, McGuyre was named the 25 NAIA Men s National Coach of the Year and in 2 the NCCAA Division I National Coach of the Year. In 2, he made history by being named both the AVCA Men s and Women s NAIA National Coach of the Year in the same calendar year. Before his successful stop at CBU, McGuyre spent three years as head coach at Biola University from in Los Angeles where he tallied 6 wins in three seasons for the women s program.
