Two of the Lady Toppers three weekend foes are NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago. The opening match features No. 22 WKU taking on host Ohio on Friday evening. WKU has met the Bobcats five times in program history, coming away with a pair of victories. Saturday will feature a twin bill for the WKU program. The first test will be Villanova, another 2015 NCAA Tournament team. The sides have met three times in program history with the most recent meeting occurring in 2011 when the Lady Toppers took a 3-0 decision. FGCU will be the Lady Toppers final weekend opponent in Ohio. This will be the first meeting between the two sides. OVERVIEW A squad of just 12 players this season, Coach Hudson and the Lady Toppers will have a target on their backs as the two-time defending Conference USA regular-season and tournament champions in their first two seasons in the league. The WKU squad is coming off arguably their best season yet, posting a 2015 record of 32-4 and a C-USA reading of Nine Lady Toppers are returning from last season s unit that advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. ON THE OUTSIDE The Lady Toppers have four outside hitters listed on their 2016 roster. Alyssa Cavanaugh headlines the 2015 Record: 25-8 Hit Pct:.225 Kills/Set: Assists/Set: Aces/Set: 1.50 Digs/Set: Blocks/Set: Record: 25-9 Hit Pct:.241 Kills/Set: Assists/Set: Aces/Set: 1.50 Digs/Set: Blocks/Set: Record: Hit Pct:.220 Kills/Set: Assists/Set: Aces/Set: 1.20 Digs/Set: Blocks/Set: 2.10 group, earning AVCA All-American honors in each of her first two seasons on The Hill. The 2014 C-USA Freshman of the Year ranked seventh in the league with 400 kills during her sophomore season and led WKU with that number. Cavanaugh is less than 200 kills away from becoming the next 1,000-kill player in Lady Topper program history. Joining Cavanaugh on the attack are Sydney Engle, Taylor Dellinger and Sophia Cerino. Engle, a junior, earned a Second-Team All-Conference USA nod for her 2015 efforts. The 6-0, Indiana native started all 36 contests for the Lady Toppers last season and ranked third in kills for WKU at 263. Dellinger, a sophomore out of Michigan, appeared in 18 matches during her rookie season and registered 55 kills to go along with 16 digs. Cerino will see her first action in the red and white this fall. IN THE MIDDLE Hudson lists three middle hitters on his 2016 lineup including Rachel Anderson, Amara Listenbee and Maggie Singleton. Anderson posted a tremendous debut season and earned the C-USA Freshman of the Year accolade. The Michigan native made an immediate impact at the net and became a regular start on the veteranfilled WKU team. Anderson made her name known in her collegiate debut as she finished with nine kills and a.412 hitting percentage in WKU s upset of No. 5 Wisconsin on the Badgers home court. She went on to become the second consecutive Lady Topper to be named the league s Freshman of the Year after ranking second among conference freshmen and in the top-10 overall in C-USA with a.318 hitting clip.

Though she is active and lively, Harlie has been through a lot after being diagnosed with a brain tumor behind her eyes in the spring of Since then, Harlie has had CT scans, MRIs, surgeries, chemotherapy and more. With everything going on in her life, though, Harlie has kept a positive spirit. Harlie s positive spirit is now being spread throughout the WKU Volleyball program after the Lady Toppers and Harlie were joined by the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ), a charitable, non-profit organization that strives to enhance and strengthen the support system built around children with pediatric brain tumors. Through the program, adopted children become part of the team and build unique friendships. Children also gain an incredible group of caring role models to look up to when they need the extra support. Harlie is now a Lady Topper. At every home game, she is with the team in the huddle and at introductions while she cheers with her family from the sidelines during the game. The team s secret weapon, she is a constant reminder to the WKU student-athletes and coaching staff to keep fighting no matter what stands in the way. For more information about Harlie and her journey, visit HopeForHarlie.org and follow on Twitter Friends of Jaclyn Foundation In 2004, nine-year-old Jaclyn Murphy was diagnosed with a medullo-blastoma, a malignant brain tumor. While undergoing treatment, she was inspired by a large framed photo on the hospital wall of a joyful, young woman lacrosse player celebrating her team s NCAA championship. In 2005, two unrelated friends of the Murphy family told Northwestern University s Lacrosse coach about Jaclyn s story and asked them if they could help. The team promptly adopted Jaclyn as an honorary member. Jaclyn s strength, courage, relentless spirit and joy for life inspired everyone. The team began to play for Jaclyn and achieved a magical perfect season, winning Northwestern s first NCAA championship in 64 years. Just three years after the program started, Jaclyn even predicted the final score, 13-10, in the championship final. When Jaclyn was in the middle of the team s celebration, her parents realized that Jaclyn s relationship with the players - her adopted sisters - had a positive effect on her happiness and health. The Northwestern players knew that their relationship with Jaclyn had opened their eyes and hearts to a deeper appreciation for life. Soon afterward, Jaclyn shared a big dream with her father. She wanted other children with pediatric brain tumors to have similar experiences of being honorary team members. The Murphys understood that it is ultimately the love and support of others that gives people the inspiration and courage to get through this challenging journey. In 2005, Denis and Lynda Murphy started The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ) to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families by pairing them with college and high school athletic teams. The FOJ program has grown incredibly to over 300 children who have been adopted by high school and college teams across the country. For more information about FOJ, visit FriendsofJaclyn.org. Page 2

5 Notes sophomore. As a standout for the Lady Raptors, Cerino earned All-District and All-Tournament honors both her sophomore and junior seasons. As a four-year letter winner for Notre Dame Prep (Pontiac, Mich.), Kowalkowski was a First-Team All- State, All-Conference, All-County, All-Region and All- Catholic selection as a junior. SCHEDULE OUTLOOK After two years in Conference USA, WKU has proven itself as the team to beat after hoisting a pair of league regular season and tournament trophies. The Lady Toppers are coming off of the program s ninth NCAA Tournament appearance and have no intentions of slowing down with one of their toughest schedules yet to come in Seven of WKU s 2016 opponents earned spots in the 2015 NCAA Tournament field including Lipscomb, Michigan State, Arkansas State, Robert Morris, Ohio, Villanova and Southern Illinois. Michigan State advanced to the second round of action before falling to No. 5 Washington in Seattle. The Lady Toppers will face a trio of those teams at home in Bowling Green (Lipscomb, Michigan State and Southern Illinois). During the 2015 season, 21 of WKU s 2016 opponents posted a winning record and 13 of those teams went on to win 20 or more games during the year. Additionally, 14 of the Lady Topper s 2016 challengers closed the previous season with a top-100 RPI with Arkansas State at the top of the list coming in at No. 20. COACHING STAFF Head coach Travis Hudson is set to commence his 22nd season at the helm of the WKU program. Kristi Griffin will be by Hudson s side for the eighth season while Craig Bere returns for his second campaign as an assistant coach on The Hill. In the trio s first season together, the Lady Toppers produced a 32-4 record that included advancement into the second round of the NCAA Tournament after claiming both the regular season and tournament championships in Conference USA. Two Lady Toppers earned AVCA All-America honors (Alyssa Cavanaugh and Jessica Lucas) while three were named AVCA All- Region honorees (Cavanaugh, Noelle Langenkamp, Lucas). The coaching staff saw six players earn All- Conference USA honors in total in addition to Rachel Anderson bringing home C-USA Freshman of the Year recognition. PRESEASON C-USA POLL With a pair of Conference USA championships in as many seasons in the league, the Lady Toppers have been voted the C-USA favorite prior to the 2016 campaign. WKU was picked to three-peat by all 13 league coaches. Rice, the host of the 2016 C-USA Tournament, was predicted to finish third in the poll with UTSA slated for second place. Junior setter Jessica Lucas, an AVCA All-American performer a year ago, was also named the league s preseason player of the year while fellow All-American Allyssa Cavanaugh joined Lucas on the 12-member preseason All-Conference team. AVCA PRESEASON RANKING For just the second time in program history, the Lady Toppers will enter the season ranked in the AVCA preseason poll. Hudson and company closed the 2015 rankings at No. 22 and will pick up in the same spot for the 2016 campaign. WKU was the lone C-USA school to receive votes in the opening poll of the 2016 season. The first AVCA preseason poll appearance came prior to the start of the 2013 campaign when the Lady Toppers earned the No. 21 spot. WKU received votes for all 16 weeks of last season s AVCA polls and appeared in the top-25 national rankings on 11 occasions. The final 2015 ranking of No. 22 was just the second time in program history that the Lady Toppers earned a spot in the final poll. PAST FIVE SEASONS The Lady Toppers have proven themselves as one of the nation s top programs over the last five seasons. WKU has racked up 153 victories in that time span second to only Penn State (156). Hawaii joins WKU as the only non-power Five programs to rank in the top 10 winningest programs over the past five seasons with 134 wins (ninth). In that span, the Lady Toppers have made four NCAA Tournament appearances to accompany five regular season conference championships and four conference tournament championships.
