Diddle Arena All-Time Record: WKU leads 5-2 Live Stats: WKUSports.com Stream: CUSA.tv Notes 602 AND COUNTING With his Oct. 21 win over Middle Tennessee, WKU Volleyball veteran head coach Travis Hudson secured his 600th career victory. Hudson joins an elite group of leaders to hit the milestone and is just the 19th active DI volleyball coach to achieve the feat. Hudson is the 58th DI volleyball coach all-time to win 600 or more matches in their career and is one of just 18 to do it all with the same team. Hudson is also the only coach in Conference USA history with 600 or more wins all at the DI level. In terms of winning percentages, Hudson owns the 23rd-best mark of all active DI head coaches. When narrowing that group to coaches with 10 or more years at the helm, Hudson owns the eighth-best win percentage. And finally, of active DI head coaches with 21 or more seasons under their belts, Hudson owns the fifth-best win percentage. HOME CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK Since joining Conference USA, WKU has not lost a home match to a league opponent, improving to a 32-0 mark with its first two home victories of When counting both C-USA and Sun Belt opposition, the streak extends back to the 2011 season for 57-consecutive home conference victories. Of those wins, 44 have been straight-set sweeps while only three matches have lasted the full five frames. CONFERENCE USA NODS Following WKU Volleyball s first tournament championship of the season, Conference USA recognized a pair of Lady Toppers for their performances. Senior middle Rachel was NUMBERS TO KNOw 4 Straight automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week while Katie Isenbarger collected Freshman of the Week honors. A week and a second tournament championship later, WKU has added another C-USA accolade as Tournament MVP Sophia Cerino earned Co- Offensive Player of the Week honors from the league office. After a big 3-0 week for the Lady Toppers with wins over [RV] Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee and Charlotte, two more WKU players were honored with weekly awards. Taylor picked up her first career Setter of the Week nod while Lauren Matthews earned her first Freshman of the Week recognition. HOLIDAY INN-UNIVERSITY PLAZA INVITE With another unforgiving weekend slate on deck, WKU Volleyball returned home after playing six of its first seven matches on the road. The Lady Toppers opened play with a sweep of Chattanooga before claiming a big five-set win over Notre Dame later that night. To cap the weekend, WKU took down Miami (OH) in four sets for a perfect 3-0 showing. Emma Kowalkowski earned Tournament MVP status while Hallie also earned an All-Tournament Team nod. LONGEST HOME WINNING STREAK IN NCAA After the defending national champion, Nebraska, lost its home opener on opening night in Lincoln, WKU Volleyball took over the title of longest active home winning streak across the nation. WKU s streak extended back to the 2016 campaign with 28 consecutive victories from the confines of E.A. Though she is active and lively, Harlie has been through a lot after being diagnosed with a brain tumor behind her eyes in the spring of Since then, Harlie has had CT scans, MRIs, surgeries, chemotherapy and more. With everything going on in her life, though, Harlie has kept a positive spirit. Harlie s positive spirit is now being spread throughout the WKU Volleyball program after the Lady Toppers and Harlie were joined by the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ), a charitable, non-profit organization that strives to enhance and strengthen the support system built around children with pediatric brain tumors. Through the program, adopted children become part of the team and build unique friendships. Children also gain an incredible group of caring role models to look up to when they need the extra support. Harlie is now a Lady Topper. At every home match, she is with the team in the huddle and at introductions while she cheers with her family from the sidelines. The team s secret weapon, she is a constant reminder to the WKU student-athletes and coaching staff to keep fighting no matter what stands in the way. For more information about Harlie and her journey, visit HOPEFORHARLIE.ORG and follow on Twitter FRIENDS OF JACLYN FOUNDATION In 2004, nine-year-old Jaclyn Murphy was diagnosed with a medullo-blastoma, a malignant brain tumor. While undergoing treatment, she was inspired by a large framed photo on the hospital wall of a joyful, young woman lacrosse player celebrating her team s NCAA championship. In 2005, two unrelated friends of the Murphy family told Northwestern University s Lacrosse coach about Jaclyn s story and asked them if they could help. The team promptly adopted Jaclyn as an honorary member. Jaclyn s strength, courage, relentless spirit and joy for life inspired everyone. The team began to play for Jaclyn and achieved a magical perfect season, winning Northwestern s first NCAA championship in 64 years. Just three years after the program started, Jaclyn even predicted the final score, 13-10, in the championship final. When Jaclyn was in the middle of the team s celebration, her parents realized that Jaclyn s relationship with the players - her adopted sisters - had a positive effect on her happiness and health. The Northwestern players knew that their relationship with Jaclyn had opened their eyes and hearts to a deeper appreciation for life. Soon afterward, Jaclyn shared a big dream with her father. She wanted other children with pediatric brain tumors to have similar experiences of being honorary team members. The Murphys understood that it is ultimately the love and support of others that gives people the inspiration and courage to get through this challenging journey. In 2005, Denis and Lynda Murphy started The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ) to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families by pairing them with college and high school athletic teams. The FOJ program has grown incredibly to over 300 children who have been adopted by high school and college teams across the country. Regardless of the end of the streak, The Hill remains one of the toughest places to play across the country. THE LAST FOUR YEARS FOR WKU VOLLEYBALL Collecting every championship possible since joining Conference USA prior to the 2014 season, WKU Volleyball has made it seem like there s no rebuilding, just reloading, year after year. After taking a big hit to graduation following a successful 2017 campaign, the Lady Toppers will take on a different look in a younger and more athletic one. WKU Volleyball enters 2018 fresh off of the program s 11th NCAA Tournament appearance and fourthstraight Conference USA Tournament and Regular Season Championships. The Lady Toppers shared the regular season title with North Texas, each posting a 13-1 mark in league play. Additionally, WKU strung together a 23-match win streak, the second-longest streak in the country last year. In 2018, the Red and White were again picked as the C-USA preseason favorites but may first have to undergo some growing pains. With only five upperclassmen - four that have been on The Hill their whole careers - Hudson and staff will see significant contributions from the freshman and sophomore classes. Across the past seven seasons, WKU s offense has ranked as one of the nation s top 12 each year. While the team will still bring the firepower in 2018, Hilltopper Nation can expect to see an equally impressive defense as well - similar to the early days of WKU Volleyball. WKU VOLLEYBALL IS 1-2?! The rest of Conference USA s squads combined to face a total of three opponents with double-digit RPI ratings (UCF, 86; Texas Tech, 87; SIUE, 92) with no squad facing more than one, let alone three during opening weekend. RELOADING With big shoes left to fill, Hudson brought in a class with the potential to make as much noise as the 2017 seniors. Before even stepping foot on campus, the newcomers earned plenty of recognition including the PrepVolleyball.com Highest Honorable Mention nod. Individually, two newcomers were recognized as well. Lauren Matthews earned AAU All-American status from the most elite level. Another Lady Topper making some noise before her arrival was secondgeneration WKU volleyball player Payton Frederick - a PrepVolleyball.com First-Team Defensive Gym Dandy. PRESEASON C-USA POLL With four Conference USA championships in as many seasons in the league, the Lady Toppers legacy helped the squad be voted the C-USA favorite again as the 2018 campaign approaches. One of six league squads to receive first place votes by C-USA coaches, WKU finished with five tallies. Rice, Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, North Texas and FIU also received votes. Additionally, the Lady Toppers saw Rachel recognized as the C-USA Preseason Player of the Year - the third-straight WKU player to earn the honor (Alyssa Cavanaugh, 2017 & Jessica Lucas, 2016). ANOTHER TOUGH SCHEDULE The target on WKU Volleyball s back continues to grow as the team has won four-straight regular season and tournament titles in as many years since joining Conference USA. Coming off of the program s 11th NCAA Tournament appearance, the Lady Toppers are up for the challenge with zero intentions of slowing down with another competitive schedule in WKU s 29-match regular season includes five regular season conference champions as well as four conference tournament champions. Additionally, 15 of the Lady Toppers 2018 opponents notched winning campaigns a year ago. FOUR-PEAT CHAMPIONS For the fourth-consecutive season, the WKU volleyball program won the regular season Conference USA Championship, sharing the regular season title with North Texas. Both the Mean Green and Lady Toppers sported 13-1 C-USA records. Additionally, WKU Volleyball is the first team in Conference USA history to win four-straight league regular season championships. MAKING NOISE IN THE BIG DANCE After once again securing Conference USA s automatic bid, WKU made its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament with all 11 coming under Travis Hudson. WKU s first appearance came in 2002 while the program has earned a spot in nine of the last 11 years.

5 Notes After securing the C-USA Tournament title at Diddle Arena for the first time, the Red and White found out they d get to stay home in the Bluegrass State and head up the road to Lexington for NCAA Tournament play. Drawing defensive powerhouse Notre Dame in the first round, the Lady Toppers offense was too much for the Fighting Irish to handle as WKU swept its third NCAA Tournament match to face host and No. 6 Kentucky the following night. Hudson s crew opened up a 2-0 lead on the SEC Champions before the Wildcats faught all the way back to claim the match and eventually advance to the Elite 8. ALL-AMERICANS Alyssa Cavanaugh, Jessica Lucas and Rachel combined for nine All-American accolades across four outlets. Cavanaugh (3rd Team) and Lucas (HM) earned AVCA All-America status for the fourthconsecutive season. was also recognized by the AVCA for the first time as an honorable mention. The trio s collection gives the WKU program 20 AVCA All-America selections since 2005., Cavanaugh and Lucas each earned PrepVolleyball. com and VolleyballMag.com All-America nods. Lucas earned Senior CLASS Award First Team All- American status, becoming the first player in Lady Topper Volleyball history to achieve the feat. The senior finished with a school-record four All-American honors in a single season, finishing with eight total. TRAVIS HUDSON: OFF THE COURT The off-season between WKU Volleyball head coach Travis Hudson s 23rd and 24th seasons on The Hill was quite possibly the most memorable one of his tenure with the Lady Toppers. Following a five-set loss to No. 4-seed, and host, Kentucky in the Second Round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament, Hudson delivered an emotional message that resonated across the country as he quickly became an internet sensation. With countless texts, tweets, s, calls, direct messages, letters - you name it - Hudson s prideful message had been heard as thousands of people reached out to the veteran Western Kentucky head coach. Fast forward to Easter weekend On a rare Saturday off from spring season, Hudson was catching up on yard work when he headed to the hardware store. He ended up in the emergency room, actively experiencing a widow-maker heart attack.
