1 Two World Championships to be decided in Wales this week? A second place and a Power Stage win for Sebastien Ogier on Dayinsure Wales Rally GB would be enough for the Frenchman to secure his fifth Drivers' championship and would also secure the Manufacturers' title for his team, M-Sport. Could it really come down to the last few kilometres of Brenig to finish off both 2017 titles? But then, for the thousands of volunteer marshals and officials who are working together this week to deliver the UK's round of the World Rally Championship, the result really doesn't matter compared to everyone having an enjoyable and safe rally, whether spectating, officiating or competing in it. Results? We can look at them on Sunday night. 2 FIA Organisers Meeting at Rally de Espana Every WRC event was represented at the recent FIA Organisers meeting out in Salou, Spain. What was very encouraging from the meeting was that despite the championship taking place in 13 different countries around the world, we all have the same issues with spectators. The issue being how to stop them from accessing areas we don't want them to be near after the zero cars have gone past. There is to be no movement on the road from 30 minutes before the first competing car. The FIA Safety Delegate, Michelle Mouton gave an overview of each round from Spain 2016 through to Germany this year. The report on last year's Dayinsure Wales Rally GB was complimentary in the marshaling standards, the stage set up and with some suggestions made for amendments to the safety plan put forward. The one issue that became clear when they reviewed the in-car footage, was that on some stages the marshals can be seen standing in groups and were often in front of red tape or box junctions. We need everyone to be spread out along the spectator lines and not in front of the red tape or box junctions. Remember if it's not OK for the spectators, it can't be OK for you either. Please look after yourselves and set the example. Please remember that only marshals that have registered for the event with RST will be eligible for goodies this year. So our rally cars offer a low risk of spreading the disease. However, the larger risk is from marshals and organisers who have been working on the special stages.

This will help to stop the spread of any disease.

3 VERY IMPORTANTLY Phytophthora Ramorum tree disease Myherin is an infected forest with this disease that attacks Japanese Larch trees and Rhododendrons. The biggest risk of transferring the disease is when people or vehicles are in off-road areas. Hard surfaced roads are the least risk areas. So our rally cars offer a low risk of spreading the disease. However, the larger risk is from marshals and organisers who have been working on the special stages. NRW have requested that we all jet wash our cars after having been in an infected forest and shake any pine needles from clothing before leaving the forest. This will help to stop the spread of any disease. Our chosen route for Dayinsure Wales Rally GB avoids the largest areas that are infected, but there are some small infected areas beside the route, albeit away from spectator areas. Post event marshal survey At the start of next month we will be sending out a short survey to all marshals who helped out on the event. This will be to gauge what worked well and what can be improved, as well as to measure the financial impact that the volunteer workforce has on the areas we visit.
