1 Annual Report October September 2017 Progress. By definition it means forward movement towards a specific goal. Here at ACTA, we see progress as improving mobility in a traditionally suburban area that was built around automobile travel. Looking forward, we need to continue being a leader in shaping the future of mobility in this region, making sure to meet the needs of all users while focusing on sustainability, modal options, and healthy lifestyle. FORWARD THINKING The future of mobility in the Airport Corridor This year ACTA made progress on expanding travel options in the corridor through community, corporate, and local government collaborations. We identified new ways to partner with local transportation associations and secured additional financial support for our RideACTA shuttle. We improved communications by expanding public outreach. We identified new opportunities for expanding the RideACTA program, all the while remaining focused on the goals of our Strategic Plan. And, last but not least, we continued to work toward reducing congestion and improving air quality for us all. All of this and more was accomplished by focusing on the needs of today while keeping one eye on the future moving forward through forward thinking. Thank you for supporting everything we do. Lynn L. 2 FORWARD EXPANSION One of ACTA s goals is to provide last-mile service between the Port Authority of Allegheny County s park-and-ride lot on University Boulevard and various employment destinations within the corridor. This year we commissioned Delta Development Group to help quantify this need and provide case studies highlighting the value of similar services elsewhere. We also engaged graduate engineering students from the University of Pittsburgh to craft a multi-modal transportation plan for the corridor. ACTA assisted the students in surveying residents and workers, collecting 300 responses in all. We also leveraged the power of Twitter to help spread the word about RideACTA and continued to work and partner with the Transportation Subcommittee of the Moon Economic Development Group, which includes four airport townships (Findlay, Moon, North Fayette and Robinson), Coraopolis Borough, the Airport Area Chamber, RMU, and a few local businesses. Rider Survey Results 93 % 61 % 57 % 84 % of riders take RideACTA 4-5 days/week of riders travel 1-2 hours to get to work of riders are very low income say that RideACTA is necessary to get to work 72 % say that RideACTA is convenient & affordable PUTTING OUR BEST FOOT FORWARD ACTA and its Pittsburgh TMA partners the Oakland Transportation Management Association (OTMA) and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership TMA continue to work toward making Pittsburgh one of America s most walkable cities by encouraging walking as a viable commuting option, improving pedestrian safety, promoting the health and economic benefits of walking, and ensuring that walkability is factored into transportation and development plans. This year we had 1,422 walkers participating in the Walk Pittsburgh program, logging a total of 165,140,181 steps (that s 84,437 miles!). As a result, we helped keep 27,764 kg CO 2 out of the atmosphere and saved 4,222 gallons of gasoline. Keep on moving, Pittsburgh!
3 FORWARD REACH Communication, of course, is key in spreading ACTA s message. We do this through diversity of delivery in our public outreach efforts and by staying active and involved in the local community. In addition to the Smart Moves newsletter, we published the 2017 Guide to Construction highlighting District 11 projects impacting the region. We also conducted our Annual Rider Survey and the G3 Moon Flyer Rider Survey to better understand our ridership and meet their specific needs. PUBLICATIONS SURVEYS MEMBERSHIPS INFO TABLES MEETINGS EXPOS & FORUMS TELEVISION This year ACTA continued its outreach/awareness strategies to local businesses through a new membership brochure. We set up information tables at Chamber meetings in order to let local businesses know what we do. Back in May we served as part of a group of Chamber members (Government Affairs Committee) that traveled to Harrisburg to meet with legislators. We took part in Rep. Mark Mustio and Sen. Guy Reschenthaler s Annual Senior Expo and presented at the TIRES 2017 Spring Forum. We were also interviewed by Allegheny County Councilman Tom Baker on the Moon Community Access TV Show Get Involved! INTERVIEWS AIR QUALITY: MOVING FORWARD RideACTA by the Numbers Improving Pittsburgh s air quality is and always has been at the forefront of ACTA s mission. By encouraging public transit, the RideACTA shuttle, and other alternative, healthier modes of transportation, we are helping to eliminate tons of harmful CO2s and, in turn, making the region s air more breathable for us all. 78,773 rides provided 210 businesses served by shuttles 1,054 tons of CO 2 eliminated 107,562 gallons of gasoline saved 39,386 cars kept off the road 2,678,282 vehicle miles eliminated
