2 Page 2 Message from the East Brethren Welcome to March and the excitement of Springs arrival. This is a busy time for our Masonic year as we join in the reception on March 6th of the Grand Master of California. This yearly event will be held in Anaheim, at the DeMolay Center located at 303 Lincoln Avenue. The cost of the reception is $25.00 for a delicious luncheon. Tickets are available at the door. Please confirm you will be attending. Masonry has been an integral part of California for over 150 years. The Grand Masters reception is the acknowledgement of our long Masonic history in California. We will hold our March Stated meeting on the 10th at our Lodge in Dana Point and all Masons are invited to attend. Worshipful Baribeault cooked a delicious pot roast at our last meeting and the brothers truly enjoyed the evening. May we all strive to improve our food preparation to match the delicious meal enjoyed on February 11th. Our next Masonic adventure will be the Swallows Day Parade on the 12th in San Juan Capistrano. All who will be attending should plan to be there early to enjoy the yearly pan cake breakfast at the women s club. We welcome all who are able to join with us on that date to march in the largest non motorized parade anywhere. I wish to thank all who attended the Sweet Heart Luncheon last February 13th at Trevor s by the Tracks for a wonderful gathering centered around the ladies of our lives. It was a well attended and a most enjoyable time. Such happy events are fulfilling in to us all and the beautiful roses are a tribute to the sentiment of sharing of fellowship so important in Masonry. Upon the Square Charles E. 3 Page 3 Message from the West Brethren: I hope all of you are as excited for spring as I am. Our lodge is going to be very busy during the spring and summer months providing several opportunities to invite friends or family to join us in fellowship and to learn about masonry. For this month s article, I would like to emphasize the importance of brotherly love and whispering good council into each others ear. I believe a big part of what attracts members to our fraternity is the close bond and sense of brotherly affection we share. When these qualities are clearly visible to others looking from outside the fraternity, our appeal is magnified. When we whisper good council in to the ear of brethren new to the Masonic journey in an inclusive and considerate way, we demonstrate our true intentions of making good men better. I think our lodge is particularly good at maintaining an inclusive atmosphere and I want all of our brethren to keep this in mind for the summer months as we get more active in our community. Let us remember that we are representing the fraternity as we march in parades and gather for our picnics. The magnifying glass is on us to uphold the good reputation passed down by those hard working brethren before us. 4 Page 4 Message from the South Brethren, I hope everyone is well, and welcome to the month of March! February for Veritas was greeted with the reception of the Sweethearts Luncheon on Saturday the 13th, and as we were reminded of the tradition of courtly love and affection accompanying the celebration of St. Valentine s Day, a crowd of 26 Brothers and Sweethearts enjoyed a pleasant brunch at Trevor s At The Tracks in San Juan Capistrano. My particular thanks goes out to Brother Jim Allen s wife Sharon for shouldering the entire preparation of the floral decorations. She garnished the room with a well thought out element of charm and her assistance helped play a significant role in cueing the festivities on a strong note. Most importantly however, restaurant owner Trevor Baird and his staff did an excellent job of accommodating us by furnishing our party with an intimate room soundproofed from the adjacent railroad tracks nearby. The silent sight of the Amtrak cars coming and going provided a unique backdrop which, coupled with the waitresses hard work and friendly hospitality, made for a memorable experience for us all. As we welcome in the budding month of March and the outset of Spring s regenerative character, we celebrate another local seasonal event with our annual participation in the Swallows Day Parade, on Saturday March 12, Also known as La Fiesta de las Golondrinas, the gathering is held to celebrate the return of the swallows to the San Juan Capistrano Mission on St. Joseph s Day, March 19, 2016, and is the nation s largest non-motorized Parade still in existence. The Parade will start at 11:00 AM, and the majority of our participants will be meeting much earlier at one of several charitable food vendors to be determined at later date. (Last year we met at the San Juan Women s Club for a pancake breakfast, but their website domain is no longer up and functioning and we may need to meet elsewhere). Multiple shuttle services will be provided by the city, however, based on our previous experience it is encouraged that we meet at the Flow Master parking lot located off of Rancho Viejo, northeast of the Ortega Highway exit. The San Juan Parade Committee hasn t informed us yet as to what our Entry Number will be, so the Brethren should be expecting an with additional details regarding times and meeting locations very soon INSTALLED OFFICERS Master - Charles E. 6 Page 6 SWALLOWS DAY PARADE & MERCADO SHUTTLE BUS ON THE DAY OF THE SWALLOWS DAY PARADE 8:30AM-5:00PM Free Parking and Pick-up Locations: Fluidmaster Rancho Viejo Road Capistrano Business Plaza Rancho Viejo Road East side of Junipero Serra Exit (Note: Park & Ride parking lot is NOT a pick-up location) Drop Off: The Old Fire Station site at the corner of El Horno and La Matanza streets for the short walk into downtown San Juan Capistrano. Return: Shuttle bus riders may return to the Old Fire Station El Horno/La Matanza site throughout the parade until 5:00 p.m. for return back to their respective shuttle bus parking locations. Street closure for the parade is at 10:00 a.m. with the parade starting at 11:00 a.m. The Mercado Street Faire is from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Last Return Trip is at 5:00 PM!
