1 Mid Island Seniors Golf Association December 2017 Holiday Greetings The Executive of Mid Island Seniors Golf Association would like to take this opportunity to wish all members and their families a safe and happy holiday season. May the Christmas season fill your home with peace, your heart with happiness and your life with the best of everything. In This Issue Tentative Schedule Page 2 I have always thought of Christmastime, when it has come round...as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. 2 Misga Tournament Season The MISGA Executive and Club Reps developed a tentative tournament schedule for the 2018 season at the fall meeting. The official schedule, including cost information, will be issued following the Spring planning meeting on March 27 th. Watch for updates. The 2018 annual Misga dues are now being accepted by your club representative. Punctual payment allows the executive to accurately budget the season s activities. In 2017, we revised the criteria for MISGA membership. In the past, you were required to be a member of one of the affiliated clubs to qualify for MISGA membership. From this point on, we will accept any male golfer, 50 years of age or older who maintains BCGA/Golf Canada handicap. If you have any friends or neighbors that qualify, please let them know and encourage them to join. Page 2

3 Christmas Presidents Corner I would like to take this opportunity to wish all MISGA members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope that the winter weather this year will be more civil than it was last year and that you have the opportunity to play and keep your game sharp for the coming 2018 MISGA golf season. Tom Hickey, the new Rep at Nanaimo, has been successful in generating orders for more than 36 dozen Srixon Q Star golf balls to be used as prizes at most MISGA tournaments next season. These golf balls will have MISGA on them. Congratulations Tom and thank you for taking this initiative to provide good quality golf balls for prizes at a very reasonable price. I hope MISGA golfers will participate in great numbers starting early in the MISGA season and be successful at being among the very first to win some MISGA golf balls. I would like to thank the Reps and Alternate Reps who are the backbone of the MISGA organization. It is quite a bit of work to attract and sign up new members, to solicit the renewal of existing members and then advertise and coordinate all the entries to the tournaments. The biggest job is to organize and run your own tournament. Thank you for being a Rep or Alternate Rep and for doing all the work you do to make MISGA enjoyable and fun. I would also like to thank the members of the MISGA executive for their work. Their jobs are very important, Treasurer (Earl King), Secretary (William Crowther), Membership (Brent Rees) and Webmaster & Newsletter Editor (Jim Gibney) are big jobs that are very time consuming. Thank you for doing a good job in Thank you to MISGA golfers for participating in MISGA in 2017 and please join us in 2018 for MISGA golfing events and win some of those MISGA golf balls.
